They seem to be a business of honesty and character. I got the same vibe when I spoke with the owner It was great! first called about my air ducts, as I thought I needed to have them cleaned since the exit vents had dust around them. I moved into a newly purchased home built about three years ago. I described the dust level and they were straight up honest that I probably really didn't need a duct cleaning. I didn'ttell them, but it turns out anyway that I have flex-duct. I learned later that it's nearly impossible to clean flex-duct and really needs to be maintained, because the the high power vacuum used to clean ducts just shreds the flex-duct. Anyway. I had them come out and perform service on the HVAC equipment. The gentleman (Scott(?)) educated me the entire way. He even explained and showed me how much power each module uses (showed my using his ammeter that measures live current). He also explained what each reading meant (i'm an electrical engineer, so i was just curious what makes the thing tick. He also used a fiber optic snake camera to look around in the upstairs equipment. Turns out too that what I though was a layer of dust was simply the interior insulation of ductwork. The inner skin of flex duct is typically transparent. Overall I had a great experience. He didn't seem to be pulling my leg or be artificial with me. He did a good and thorough job. .

I was not very happy with their work. We were renovating our upstairs and we were already paying a plumber. We bought numerous stuff from Doc Savage like heating and air, a branded water heater which was $1500 one. It was a very nice one. So about a year later which is right now, the water company when they read our meter noticed that there was excess water being used and tagged our door. We had a plumber already working here and he looked at it and said that we have a problem and advised us to call Doc Savage. I called Doc Savage office and told them the problem and also informed them that the problem has already been diagnosed by a plumber. Doc Savage came out and they charged me Troubleshooting call. The part was under warranty because it was barely a year old. But the text time was not under warranty. I had to trust these people that they were giving the correct advantage of the warranty. There was really no way to check that. Any way it was the by-pass valve that was changed and they charged me $168 and change for that. Here I have always used these people and I had even bought service contract with them. When we bought the second unit the sales man gave us extended time on the seasonal service maintenance. They just totally disregarded it. I did not have it in writing since we have not always had it in writing with these folks and they have always been good in the past. I trusted them and it was to my dismay that I trusted them. I requested for the owner Joe Savage to call me. He called me but he gave me the run around. They had been good and maybe they have gone through change. We had spent $20000 with them. But we would never use them again. At the end of all this I would like to say don't believe what Doc Savage says.
Description of Work: Doc Savage Heating and Air Conditioning has done numerous work for us. They installed a HVAC system upstairs and also one downstairs. October Last year they installed a water heater for us.

Response from Doc Savage Heating & Air Conditioning
At Doc Savage we strive to make sure our customers are completely satisfied so we were surprised by this report from the member. The customer is correct that the Marathon water heater we installed was a very nice one. It was a Marathon 50 gallon electric water heater that comes with a lifetime warranty on the tank, 5 years on all parts, and 1 year on labor which were all listed on the original invoice we provided to her and the member when the installation was complete. The cost was around $1500.00, however the customer also recieved a $550.00 rebate through Georgia Power so the final cost was a lot less. One of problems is that the water heater was installed in March 2008 and the service call was performed in August of 2010, so the labor warranty had been expired for over a year. We fixed her problem by replacing the pressure relief valve which was under warranty as the member says, however we had to charge her for the labor because it was over 2 years later. The other problem is that the member paid the technician and signed the invoice on 8/12/2010 and we never heard anything about her disatisfaction until we saw the negative report on Angies List. If we had known there were issues we could have at least tried to explain our reasons for charging her the labor rates and making sure she was satisfied as is our goal with all of our customers, especially ones that have been loyal customers for as long as the member's have with no known past issues.

They were good. They came out and serviced the air conditioner. They didn't take a long time. They showed up when they said they would. I just needed Freon and they did that. They were painless. Their price was comparable. I had five counts of Freon put in and I'm sure there is a standard rate for that but I don't know.

Terrible. We were quoted over $15,000 for AC and another AC service did it for under $4000. Then we got a bill for the "free" service because they said we had more than one furnace (we have 5 actually), but nowhere in the agreement or anything we signed said that we agreed to paying the extra $200 for the work. Overall I think they are were using pressure tactics and punished us for not buying their overpriced AC units.
Description of Work: We had a coupon for a "free" AC and Duct inspection we bought from a school fundraiser. The gentleman who came to our house was very nice and worked well, but when the supervisor came it became a sales pitch for the most expensive AC units possible.

The member bid at a school auction for a free one time maintenance inspection and cleaning that we donated at no charge to help the school. It stated clearly on the coupon that it was for one system but when we arrived at his home we found out he had 5 systems as he states. We let him know that the additional units would be an extra charge and he gave the technician the go ahead. (By the way $50.00 a unit is a very nicely discounted cost). Our technician spent a lot of time on the systems and actually found some dangerous situations due to cracks in the heat exchangers which causes carbon monoxide to leak in the home. Our service people can't quote system replacements so our owner Joe Savage actually went out to see if he could help. Right here I would like to say that I've been in heating and air conditioning sales for over 20 years and to report that Mr. Savage is high pressure in any way is ridiculous. He's an electrical engineer, known by everyone in our community to be extremely knowledgable in our industry, and went out himself to meet with the member. Since Mr. Savage only dropped the proposal off in the member's door because he couldn't get in touch with him after his initial evaluation I don't see how he could possibly consider that high pressure. What Mr. the member fails to report is that our quote was for three Trane systems that are of the highest quality and duct modifications. The other company only installed one basic system of a lower priced brand. The key to all of this is that the member never paid his bill and we have written him off as a bad debt after our technician and owner put in a substantial amount of time and effort. The final outcome of that time and effort is that he did end up replacing the system with another company after we found the situation that was dangerous and possibly saved his family's life. That was in one of the additional systems we inspected by the way. We are a Trane Comfort Specialist with a 100% customer referral rate, and 99% customer satisfation rate over the past year. I just pulled that up to make sure I was being factual and that's as long a date range as I can get on Trane's website, but I'll be glad to forward that to you if it helps. We have also been Georgia Power Company's #1 dealer in the east region of Georgia for the past four years and the Authorized Service Provider for all of the Home Depot store in our area. Those are pretty strong numbers and I hope other members will take all of this into account when reading the member's report on something he never even paid for.

They underbid the job and then came back and charged us nearly three times what they had bid it for. They had to come through the center block wall to put a vent in - they knew this from the start. When they started cutting through this wall, they realized it was a bigger job. They told us about it. They originally told me it would be about $400 to do the job. When I got the bill it was $1700. I had another company that was willing to do it for $700 without any change on that rate. They did a good job though. I would not use them in the future.

This is the first we have heard about a problem with the Member since we performed the work and he paid his bill over a year ago. He has never called us to discuss his concerns which we would have addressed immediately as we do with all of our customers. We originally went and looked at the job and told the Member that we would base the job strictly on the material and time used to complete the duct work. We did verbally estimate that it would be between $400 and $600, but there was never a written bid as he was referred by a friend of the company. As stated in his report we immediately informed him when we found that his concrete walls were full of steel rebar which we didn't know about so the job would take longer. In the end it took a crew 3 days to complete plus the material, but as also noted by the customer we took the time to do a great job. Miscommunications do happen, but if the Member would have contacted us we could have let him know that we actually lost money on the job that cost him $1500, not the $1700 he claims. We pride ourselves on our workmanship and outstanding service which has resulted in our extremely high customer satisfaction ratings with the Trane Company and the Home Depot (which we are there service provider for our entire area due to those ratings) and take care of any problems that arise as long as we know about them.

They are excellent. We have been with them for almost twenty years now. They do A/C check in the spring and heating check in the fall. They have always done some extra work for me. We had a problem with the gas fireplace a few years ago and it was not in the line of their work, but, the technician actually helped me fix that. I would recommend them to anyone.

Their service is outstanding. They go out of their way for great customer service. They even gave good advice about my gas fireplace. It’s one of those outstanding companies. We have been them for about 20 years.
Description of Work: They provide routine maintenance annually for both heating and air. They come once in the spring for air and once in the fall heating. They will also come as needed.
