Our air conditioner went out during the summer time. I called busby, thinking they were a reputable company. I found out differently after they showed up. My house and system was only four years old when I called, so the RUUD system was still under warranty. The technician came out, said the board was bad. He jury-rigged a fuse in place to get the system running and said he would have to order the new board. He went to his van and started working out a estimate. After seeing the estimate, and what it entailed, I told him I would not be going with them. I refused to pay for a part that was covered under the warranty. HE CLAIMED IT WAS A STOCKING FEE. They wanted to charge me and then charge RUUD for the part under their warranty. They also charged me $120 for the service visit. I called a local company that ordered the part and installed it for the service fee of $99.

We keep very accurate records at our company concerning customer history and invoices. According to our records the only time we were at this customer's home was on January 29th, 2010 and February 1st 2010. Not July 19th 2012. On January 29th 2010 we replaced a transformer and dual run capacitor for a total fee of $208.00 including the diagnostic fee. We returned on February 1st, 2010 and replaced a transformer at no charge. At that time we discovered the furnace control board was bad and quoted a price to replace it. The price we quoted is not in our records. All of our pricing is flat rate and up front. We give a firm price before doing any work. This is the only time we worked at this address. The customer is correct that the parts were covered under a RUUD 5 year warranty. However RUUD does not cover any diagnostic fees, labor, or any other fees. They simply furnish the part. The price that we quoted to replace the board included the time to get the part, the labor to install it ,processing the warranty with RUUD, and a one year labor warranty on the repair. I have no idea what the statement "jury rigging a fuse" is about. Perhaps this customer has us confused with another company since we were not there in the summer of 2012.

satisfied with work performed. Only down side coupon applies to equipment repair not service charge for visit and inspection. Would recommend this company if asked.
Description of Work: Complaint was heater took 1 1/2 hour to start this morning. After that it started running. Called Busby's they took unit apart and they inspected. Entire unit. They could not find any problem. Technician Suggested that unit has lock out timer that actuates if unit does not initially start after three attempts. I had insisted on inspection for my peace of mind to make sure that was only problem. He was professional and efficient.

We cannot find any record of this customer calling and requesting a quote. I apologize if we made an error and failed to respond. That is very unusual but anything is possible. We certainly have a big interest in quoting replacement systems as that is one of the major services that we provide, and the reason that we are in business. Rick Busby

The AC broke down in the middle of the night and we had to call for service on Father's Day. Busby's immediately responded to our call and the technician came to the house on Sunday. They did charge an additional fee for "after-hour services" ($120 - if I remember correctly) but at this point we were desperate, the house was at 85 degrees. Service was excellent, the technician knew exactly what to do and didn't waste any time, very punctual also and let us know in advance when he was on the way. Highly recommend this company, we were very happy with the service and haven't had any problems with our AC unit after that.

Two men arrived on time and worked all day in the heat (especially the attic) and replaced both units. They didn't leave until my units worked. They had to come back the next wekend to break down and remove my old furnace from the attic. A week later a different tech along with a county inspector came out to independently inspect the job performed and the tech made necessary adjustments on the spot. My only hiccup was the price. Just a little pricey. I guess the saying sometimes holds true "you get what you pay for".

I was very satisfied with them up until about 2 years ago and then they were very rude and disrespectful to me. They lost my business at that point. I had a friend that was nearby and checked my parent's property and she called and said that the A/C was not working properly. I called them to have them go out there. They said it was a part so we went ahead and had it done. It didn't last very long and we called them out again and this time, it was something else and I asked the guy how much it was going to be and he told me. I said, "I don't have that kind of money right now." He goes, "What? I've got a guy who's standing right there on the property to do the work." I said, "I didn't tell you to do the work," and he started yelling at me and getting very hateful. It was a threatening manner for me and I said, "Okay. I know you're the boss," and he said, "What does that mean?" He got very belligerent. I called and I didn't get to talk to Rick but I did talk to his brother and I said, "I've been with you guys for close to 30 years. If this is how you're going to treat a customer, I will never use you guys again." They never made any type of apology on behalf of the company or anything so that was the last time I used them.

Our records show that we did work for [member name removed] at [member information removed] from 1999 until11-12-2010 off and on. I was never contacted by [member name removed] about anyone from our company being rude. That kind of behavior is not tolerated in our company and is completely the opposite of our company culture. I am quite certain that she did not talk to my brother as he passed away in 2002. If someone from our company was rude I certainly appologize and wish I had been made aware of it at the time it occured. It has been almost three years since the last call that we made to that address.

We keep very good records at our company and do not depend on memory for responses. According to our records the only time we went to this home on July 14, 2011, not September of 2012. Also our records show a quote to move the thermostat for $385.00, not over $3000.00 as stated. Perhaps the customer has us confused with another company.

Both the technician and the estimator were punctual, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They explained everything that is going on with the system and what the options were available from least expensive to best long term fix in terms I could understand. Of course, since this is a large repair more estimates will be needed, but of the companies I have dealt with so far, they have been the easiest and most pleasant to interact with. I especially appreciated the fact that they have extended service hours into the evening and on Saturdays so I did not have to take time off of work for them to come and complete the assessment and estimate.

Every company makes mistakes from time-to-time. How they react to those mistakes separates the fine companies from the average or poor. Busby's excelled in this case. While out of town with guests in our house, we received a call of no cooling on the 2nd floor. We initiated a call to Busby's who responded that day. The Service Technician was unable to get the air conditioning compressor started from being off on a high heat overload safety, and we responded by purchasing 3 Window Air Conditioners to satisfy our guests needs immediately. The Service Technician had correctly observed that the "Run Capacitor" was weak and that the system was low on Freon. We were charged an $83.00 Diagnostic charge. On arriving home and while investigating our options of repair or replacement, I decided to replace the "Run Capacitor" and confirm the compressor would not run. It did run and my measurements confirmed that the compressor was operating per manufacturer's specifications. I then e-mailed Tim Seflick in Busby's Service Department to report my findings and requested that a Freon replenishment be scheduled. The old system uses the very expensive R-22 Freon so I knew the replenishment would cost a lot of money, therefore I asked Tim to "work with me" on the repair. He said he would after the Freon Replenishment and any other work required was complete. A 2nd Service Technician was promised to respond between 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on May 17th. The Service Department called at 10:00 am advising he was on his way. On arrival the Service Technician expressed concern that the system was entirely devoid of Freon and therefore placed a charge of Nitrogen on the system to confirm there was not a serious leak. There was not. He then evacuated the system and installed 5# of Freon. This service call would have cost me $455.00 ( $83.00 Diagnostic + $98.00 for 1st # of Freon + $264.00 for the additional 4# of Freon), I called Tim and reported the service call results, and he offered that I pay just for the 1st pound of Freon for $98.00. Considering how thorough the 2nd Service Technician was on confirming that the system had the integrity to run without immediately leaking the expensive Freon out, I considered Tim's offer fair. To professionalism, Busby's Service Technicians have tablet computers with the capability of accepting Credit/Debit Cards and e-mailed receipts. Therefore within minutes I had a legible invoice for my $98.00 payment. Both the 1st and 2nd Busby's Service Technicians were responsive and professional. Of course I wish the 1st Technician had been able to get the compressor running, but from 1st hand experience sometimes compressor high heat overload safeties are slow to reset. I understand the Service Technician used all available means to get the compressor to start including cooling the compressor with a water hose. Tim's decision to "work with me" was unexpected but very much appreciated.
Description of Work: On April 10th a Busby's Service Technician misdiagnosed that our 2nd floor air conditioning compressor would not start, recommending not to invest any more money in the very old system. On May 17th, after I was able to get the compressor started earlier, another Busby's Service Technician serviced the system with Freon and got the system cooling.

Our A/C unit was pumping warm air into the house, so on Friday April 5, I called a local heating and air service to have someone repair our unit. The appointment was made for Tuesday, April 9. The repairmen came examined the unit, we were told we needed a new fan. I told them to install the fan which they did, charged me $226.00 and guaranteed their work. After they left I turned the unit on. It continued to pump warm air into the house, even after being on for forty minutes. When I called the company the owner answered and I explained my problem to him. I also informed him, the house was getting warmer with the unit on. He told me to let the unit run longer and the house would get cooler. I informed that the thermostat reading was now 77. He told me 77 was not so bad. He told me to call the next day. Silly me, forgot I'm a member of Angie's List, which I checked and found great reviews about Busby's. I call Busby that same day, it was 4:55 PM. I was told there were no opening available for that day, but I could schedule an appointment for the next day, which I did. Just as promised, the office called me 30 minutes before the repairman arrived. Not only was he very professional, but very knowledge. He checked the unit, before he started work he told me the problem, the cost and the amount of time it would take to fix the unit. He worked non-stop for approx 2 hr and 45 min, but when he was finished. THE UNIT WORKED - COLD AIR coming into the house not warm air. Will I use Busby's again? ABSOLUTELY, have already remommended them to neighbors and co-workers
Description of Work: So glad I found Busby's on Angie's List. The repairman was very perfessional. Told me the price of everything before he started work. He had to replace a couple of parts, freon would not stay in unit, had to replace hoses and vacuum unit. Work took approx 3 hours.

Excellent job, on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Replacing a complete HVAC system that was original to the house built around the unit was messy work in very cold weather. They were hampered a bit with the small access panel to the attic of the house. But they were prompt, cheerful & courteous. They kept the dirt on a tarp and completely and tidily replaced it afterward. I've used this company repeatedly, which happens when you have a old house, and they've always gone above and beyond. They warranty their work and nothing has ever gone wrong. I do highly recommend them.

On the coldest day of the year, we awoke to find that our furnace was not functoning. At 8 AM my husband called Busby's and they made an appointment to come out between 11 and 1. They called a short time later and said they could come and look at it that morning. They were very professonal, diagnosed the problem, reassembled the unit, and gave my husband an estimate for repairs to our 11-year old unit, and replacement cost. We had the gentleman who originally sold and installed the unit come out later that afternoon to look at it, and his independent diagnosis was exactly the same, but he didn't charge me anything at all. He also reasssemblee the unit and gave me an estimate. His cost for repair was 28% less, and replacement 30% less for comparable units. While I agree with other reviewers that Busby's has a well-trained team, I can't see spending all that extra money when the service, professionalism, and work ethic provided by another company is the same.

Our air conditioning unit decided to quit blowing cold air during a major heat wave over the July 4th holiday. I called Busby and because of the busy schedule during a major heat wave and holiday it was going to be a couple of days before they could come but said they would put me on a list to call if there were cancellations. They did come out sooner because of cancellation. We needed to replace the unit but ask them to fix it to get us through until fall. They did try and it ran for a week but things continued to go wrong with it. It was an old unit and needed replace badly so we decided to do that. The staff that came out to go over our options gave us several options and took time to go over each one. After picking the unit it was a matter of few weeks due to our vacation plans. Everyone that came out was very friendly, very knowledgeable and always cleaned up after themselves. I would strongly recommend Busbsy and intend on using them for all our heating and cooling needs.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end. A++! They have been exceptionally responsive to all of my follow-up concerns. From sales to the technicians, they have been extremely professional, responsive, and technically second to none. They might be a bit more expensive than the other company, but you cannot put a price tag on "piece of mind," knowing you are getting the best equipment and best trained technicians. And the equipment warranties are incredible these days--whether it's from Busby's or the manufacture. And the monthly savings on my electric and gas bills have been significant.

Busby's has been checking and maintaining our downstairs and upstairs climate systems for a number of years and our original upstairs furnace (manufactured in 1989) finally succumbed. We contacted Busby's and met with Tracy Durant to look at options for replacing the system. After considering a possible heat pump which would have necessitated possible wiring and ductwork changes, decided to replace the gas furnace with another gas pack. In discussing the summer upstairs A/C and humidity control challenges with Tracy, we decided to go with slightly larger size A/C system. System promptly installed on the scheduled date and, after a return quality check to complete the programming of the programmable thermostat, the system has been operating without problem. Busby's may not be the least expensive option for new heating and A/C equipment, but it always is the best option for quality. We are and have been completely satisfied with their service and prompt attention when needs arise.
