Pella Windows and Doors

Description of Work: Our Pella windows were replaced by J&J Modeling crew on Friday January 16th. We had two crew groups show up because one of the group's job was cancelled or had to be rescheduled. The installation was scheduled for two days Friday and Saturday. The staff was very excited and wanted to finish the majority of the work on Friday which it was. On Saturday the remaining work consisted of installation of 3 picture windows, completing the door installation, final touches on all the windows and window screens. We had a door and 26 windows replaced. We had 9 picture windows which were replaced with only 7 patio windows, 1 casement (pending to be replaced) and 2 regular windows). The J & J Modeling manager was Justin Hamond. The team lead was Brandon. The staff were Rob, Will, Gage, David. Pella's sales person was Brandon Osburn. | |Originally we were planning to replace the windows with Pella Proline Window Series (wood windows with aluminum cladding) and the cost was going to be around $26,400. Then we talked to some friends in the constructions business about vinyl windows. Our main challenge was making the decision with the Proline Series or the Vinyl because we heard about the disadvantages with the vinyl. We took into consideration our friends feedback, the age of our house and the benefits of vinyl and our budget and decided to switch to Vinyl windows. The cost was about $17,200. Side note: things we had to consider with the windows were material, window screens, capping, interior and exterior painting, windows color, warranty, | |During the sales process, we had pleasant experiences with both salesmen. We started working with one sales person and he was professional, courteous and meeting our needs and helping with all the discounts we could get. He was very accommodating with supplying us updated quotes for the changes that we were asking for. He continued to follow-up with us to ensure that we had all what we needed. Then we got a call from another sales person Brandon and mentioned that he will be taking care of our account because the original salesperson has moved on from Pella. Brandon tried to make the process as streamline as possible. He was also helpful with giving us payment options that would meet our needs. With Brandon's professionalism and services, we shared our delay in making the decision which was we needed to talk to our friends in constructions because this was a big investment for us. Brandon was very supportive and he just wanted to earn our business which we had. When we decided to go with Vinyl we could have gone with Windows World but we felt that we had a more professional sales experience and we were concerned with the installation experience from what we have read on Angie's List. | |Overall the installation went very well. The staffs were friendly, courteous and timely. They were able to resolve few issues that presented themselves such as rotted wood and odd shaped framing. The staff cleaned after their main work was done. We reviewed the work together and documented a number of issues for future attention. They also provided suggestions for the screen door issue that became apparent at the end. The salesperson Brandon also visited on Saturday to check how the overall installation is going. He mentioned that we will hear back from Pella once they perform a review on the installation and they track the remaining items through their recovery process. | |Some of the recovery items pending: |1. The casement window came in wrong size measurements on paperwork so the staff leader took the right measurement. We expect the casement to be made in 4 weeks and planned for installation after wards. |2. The windows need to have picture window caps put |3. Need a screw for the door. |4. The door had a screen door - the staff who installed it on Friday told us that the door screen will be re-installed on Saturday. The work was almost done when I asked about the screen door and staff leader told mentioned that the screen door can't be reinstalled on the new door. We were disappointment because the sales person ensured that we can still have our screen window and the staff member from Friday mentioned it will be done. The staff leader suggested we talk with the sales person and suggested that there could be screen doors that go with the door we bought. | |Additional cost |1. The rotted wood for one of the picture windows. We had an idea that that window will require some additional work. The additional charges were reasonable. |2. Needed jack studs for the door and the charges were reasonable. |3. Total additional cost was $275. | |

Description of Work: We had a front door installed. The quality is excellent, however the install was a different matter all together. The door that we ordered from Pella was forgotten about. Therefore we had to wait longer than expected for our new door to be installed.

Description of Work: We had 14 windows replaced. The previous year we had other windows replaced and were pleased with the work, so had the remainder of the windows replaced in 2011. They kept to schedule and the men that did the work knew what they were doing. We didn't have any problems at all. I understand that the representative for our area has changed, so I cannot speak for the new rep. But, the rep that helped us was wonderful. He met us on a Saturday to accommodate my husband. I could email him with any questions and he would immediately respond. The windows were a big improvement for our home. We did have to have the security company redo the windows. A few things to know about the Pella windows: A pressure washer cannot be used on the windows and bleach and other products cannot be used. To do so will void the warranty. We recently had our house painted and the company covered the windows with plastic and taped them to protect them.

Description of Work: This is tricky, because the ratings don't reflect what really happened, and the history of the event. The fact of the matter is that Pella's product, which was a front door (including the sidelights, frame, etc), turned out to be defective. It leaked badly when rain was heavy and also blowing against the door directly, which resulted in some damage to the hardwood flooring inside the door jamb, and also some suspended ceiling tiles in the basement directly below the front door. The product issue, though, is not important, the important part is how Pella reacted. | |I cannot emphasize enough how much respect I now have for Pella as a direct result of how they treated me. The short version is that after some investigation, they decided just to replace the whole unit under warranty rather than try to figure out how to prevent the water leakage. I told them twice that I would be happy to keep the original door if they could resolve the leak issue, but they refused to consider that since they couldn't be sure it would resolve the problem and not have the leak show back up years later. | |The bottom line is that if you want to hire someone who will stand behind their product and treat you as a valued customer regardless of whether it is during the initial sale or when the chips are really down, then I strongly recommend Pella. They are truly the kind of company you want to do business with, and that is not hyperbole.

Description of Work: This is our third purchase of Pella Windows, and I believe we will be back yet again. Every time the quality of the product has amazed us. From start to finish, it has been a pleasure. I gave them a "B" rating in price, because they are not cheap. For overall value, however, I would enthusiastically give them an "A". I believe that they have added value to our home well beyond the purchase price of the actual windows.

Description of Work: Pella installed around 25 windows in our home. The employees were professional and completed the job in the time frame as quoted. We are very pleased with the windows and the cost savings for our heating and cooling bills. Pella made the installation easy and worry free. |We recently purchased a front entrance door but it has not been installed at this time.
