They worked with me and my flight schedule, which was short notice...these guys are the BEST!!!
Description of Work: Through Angies List I had read about this company, that is how I selected them. There previous feed-back said they were excellent, but expensive; I thought they were excellent and reasonable. This survey does not do them justice, because they went beyond excellent with my move. I identified items as trash and as goodwill items, they brought the items from all parts of my house to include the basement and the up stairs and established piles in my garage for pickup by the appropriate companies...goodwill and bulk pickup. They didn't have to do that. I think there were 5 or 7 movers, I tipped them well. We worked all day, they did not stop to eat. One day I will be moving my items from storage and I know who I will call...Mark the Mover, Inc, because I want it done right!

They were wonderful. I have recommended them out since. We had two trucks and 6 guys came out. It took 3 1/2 hours to do this move. They were great.

The men came on time, got right to work, and cheerfully put up with moving the same thing up and down the stairs twice until I found the best spot to put it.

I have nothing but good things to say about them. They are great. The estimator is great and gets back to you right away. They always give you fair pricing. Their crews are wonderful. You don't do anything, they ask you questions but don't expect you to lift a finger. They are very respectful and have had the same guys working with them for quite awhile.

Overall, it went really well. They had a new guy, so he broke a couple of items like glass tabletop and a mirror; but they replaced half the cost of tabletop and mirror. They brought a few things, but they were very tough to work with a couple of things. I would probably tell other people to get a lower deductible on the insurance for the move.

This is my 2nd experience with Mark the Mover. Mack and his crew arrived on time and started immediately after completing a walk through and touring the building that items would be delivered to. They took extra care in transporting our things and were very helpful in placing everything where we wanted it to go. We will definitely use them again for our Phase II move!

We liked them. We can’t say they stood out as the most fantastic moving company we've ever had. They didn't really didn't break anything even though they asked me where every single thing went and the boxes were labeled; at least they got them on the right floor. They were nice. They did work by the hour and I can't say they were very quick. They were nice guys and they did a decent job. We don't know any other moving companies in this area. We certainly have used worse moving companies in the past. We would probably use them again.

I was quoted that they would arrive between 12p and 5p because they had a prior job for a 3bd house. They were naturally tired when they arrived after 4p. Once they got there, they moved fairly swiftly. They wrapped dining room and bedroom pieces and handled everything with care. Two drawbacks that could have saved me time and at least $300: (1) if I was their first job and (2) if the men were equipped with updated and useful tools to assist in moves. If I ever use them again, I'll be sure to at least be their first job for the day!
Description of Work: They arrived towards the later end of the time quoted which was fine. They moved a one bedroom, two bath apt with no washer/dryer or living room set.

I called the office on Monday afternoon. The phone was answered promptly by an person that answered all my questions without hesitation. She took the information and scheduled the move for Wednesday afternoon then suggested I use the internet to provide credit card information. The price, conditions, insurance options, and other details were explained clearly on the phone, on the web site and in the documents the driver presented at the time of the move. There were NO surprises. I went to the website. It was easy to follow and within 5 minutes I had a e-mail confirmation of my move. I also received an E-mail from the person I spoke to on the phone confirming the time and date. The next day, Tuesday, I got a call to verify date and approximate time. On the morning of the move, Wednesday, I got a call verifying the time. Unfortunately, the map the driver was given from the central office was in error (Yea Google) so they were about 30 minutes, late. During the delay, the driver called at reasonable intervals so I was never in doubt where the truck was nor when it would arrive. A very comforting feeling. One large truck and four great people arrived. There was no wasted time. They gathered everything to be moved, then loaded and packed it on the truck. They had plenty of blankets, boxes, and moving equipment. Once loaded, they followed me to the delivery location and placed all items exactly where I directed with smiles, laughter, and care the entire way. So far as I could tell from watching, there were no bumps or scrapes anywhere on anything. I could not have been happier with their work. Are there cheeper movers? I do not know. After my daughters move which was an entire house full with no incidents and other recommendations on Angie's list, I just called Mark the Mover first and I plan to do the same the next time I need a move. There is nothing like the peace of mind you get when you are working with professionals you can trust.
Description of Work: The job was to move a Hammond spinet organ, a heavy 4'x8' shop table, a washer, a dryer, and misc. other items from a rental house to my basement about 5 miles away. Actual time on task was about 1-1/2 hours. I had previously cleaned where the items were to be stored and made sure the path would be clear from the truck to the storage area. I cleared the path from each item to the driveway before they arrived. I also put a yellow sticky note on each item to be moved.

I was told up front that Mark the Mover charges a premium price for premium service. Stan Paramore told me that the cost would be 25-30% more than other movers charge, because this company does business differently. They do not consolidate loads. Instead, they load the truck and take that truck directly to the destination without any detours for other customers, without moving our possessions to a different truck, without adding anyone else's possessions, and they show up on time at both ends of the move. I reasoned that such an approach would substantially reduce the risk of damage, misplaced possessions and missed schedules. Moving is quite stressful as it is, so I decided that the extra money was well worth spending in order to minimize that stress. I picked the exact dates, according to my schedule rather than theirs, both to load the truck at the point of origin and to unload at the destination. I was given a one-hour window of time at each end when the movers would arrive. A crew of four showed up on time to load the truck. They were competent, courteous and professional, packing what needed to be packed (we had already packed most of the small items), packing china and paintings and wrapping furniture that needed to be protected. I asked them to move a bed not included in the move from one room to another, and they did so cheerfully. It took most of the day to load everything. The next two days were travel time for all of us. Two of the same crew drove the truck. They arrived late on the second day, as did we, and they stayed in a motel. Unloading at the destination started right on time the following morning. I was worried that two men would not be sufficient to unload efficiently what four had loaded, but those two actually did that faster than the loading. I suppose part of the reason was that furniture is unloaded down from the truck instead of up. Again, they were competent, courteous professional and cheerful, even when we changed our minds about which room some large item should go so that it had to be moved again. They would go out of their way to place the moved items where we wanted them. We also had occasion to test their honesty. The procedure started with an estimate of weight leading to an estimated price. The truck was weighed before it was loaded and then, after it was loaded, I was given the opportunity to witness the second weighing to determine the weight of the load. The reason for giving me that opportunity was that it would affect the price. I declined that opportunity. At the destination I learned that the price came in more than $500 less than the estimate. I don't know how they did it. They were not large men, but they were obviously quite strong, hardly breaking a sweat to move massive amounts of heavy boxes and furniture. Just watching them made me sweat more than they did.
Description of Work: About 80% of the items in a 4-bedroom home were moved about 750 miles to a 3-bedroom second home in another state.

I described the telephone conversation in the above section.
Description of Work: Based on an Angie's List recommendation, I talked to Justin about an estimate for a townhome to townhome move. His telephone manner was extremely abrupt and discourteous. In fact, he didn't really answer any of my questions. I would not recommend using this mover for any type of service.

We cannot be certain, but believe this lady called in looking for a quote. Justin attempted to explain valuation, proper preparation and containerization of televisions, mirrors and various other items to ensure safe transport. She wasn't having any of it, and proceeded to tell Justin how we would move her things and what our liability would be. We are simply unwilling to move items that are improperly packaged that will likely arrive damaged. Moreover, we will not assume the liability for such items.

They did an excellent job. They were very professional and helpful. I called them. I was used to move by myself but I kind of twist my back little bit and I’m getting older. I was always worried about using any company. I checked on Angie’s List, saw them and called them. They were very reasonable and did a great job. I’m very happy that I used them and I’m going to absolutely use them again in the future.

We will recommend this company to our friends and family. And will use them again when the need arises. This is our 14th move in 35 years of marriage.
Description of Work: 4 Men came on time, prepared to work hard. I don't have enough adjectives to describe how wonderful they were. There were only 2 'hiccups', the first is the dispatcher underestimated the size of truck needed so we had to make 2 trips. Fortunately we only moved 3 miles away. Secondly, the men didn't have enough to drink even though I furnished them with water, iced tea, soft drinks and juice. It was an extremely hot day and they didn't even take a break for lunch. They worked a solid 8 hours. Never complained once. The Team Leader, Patrick, was a great motivator, positive and not asking anyone to do anything that he wouldn't or couldn't do himself.

These guys came out early last Fall to move me from my old house to new. They were on time, wrapped everything properly, were courteous, and broke nothing. The price was fair also. At most there were some sweat marks and a scratch on a wall outside a doorway, but no big deal in the overall work. I will call them again first for future moving needs. Also, communication with the office was easy when I needed to change the move date due to not knowing exactly when my closing date was. Thanks!

RESPONSE TO THEIR MAY 9 STMT: We've learned a lesson. In the past we chose firms on Angie's List based on the highest number of ratings. The problem is that we glossed over the few bad ratings believing they were exceptions, yet not realizing that the true measure of a firm?s commitment to customer service is not what they do when things go right, but how they conduct themselves when things go wrong. We have pictures to prove the mess this firm created in our homes and the damage they did to our belongings. As originally stated, we have used this firm twice and our first experience, a small move was fine. The second time was a large move and it was an absolute nightmare. Rather than respond emotionally, we will provide the facts. You can read our other reviews and find that we don?t engage in personal attacks. We are taking the time to forewarn other members because we wish someone had taken the time to forewarn us. Fact 1: We personally arranged our move - The statements made by Mr. Warren are simply incorrect. I personally contacted Mark the Mover and arranged our second move, receiving pricing, availability, etc for the project. We were closing on our new home, however and the date changed a couple of times, so when we received final word that the closing was finally scheduled, we were out of the country and did not want to wait until we returned to notify Mark the Mover, so we had a friend contact Mark the Mover to provide the revised date. She called to confirm on Monday at 2:35:02 pm ET. We then flew back to the country on Wednesday, and my husband called on Thursday to follow up. The move took place that Sunday. The crew was honest and told us that we should have stuck to our guns and insisted on a multiple day appt to make sure things were handled correctly and not in a rush. I explained that we had made that request but were told it was unnecessary. They then went on to explain that schedulers need to book as many appts as possible, but it may not always be the best thing for a customer. Fact 2: Crew Fought all night - All crew members were nice to us. In fact, we went out and bought them dinner at our expense and provided them drinks, etc throughout the move. The issue is that they were not nice to each other at all, and their fighting fueled a lot of problems with our move. They fought over everything from what to wrap, how to wrap it, which way to move a box, etc. When I conveyed that concern to Mr. Warren, he apologized and was honest in telling me that he had likely caused the issue because some things had taken place with his more senior crew members and he was teaching them a lesson by making three senior leaders work on our move. He acknowledged that he had likely created a situation where there were ?too many chiefs? which caused the power struggle we saw that day. Mr. Warren was cordial; my issue was that he kept talking about loss of profitability when his main concern shouldve have about correcting their mistakes. We paid to have a move done, yet it took repeated phone calls, and time away from our jobs so we could meet the furniture repairman for 4-5 house visits as well as meeting the second crew that tried to clean up most of the mess. Fact 3: Not only did we take pictures of the poor work and broken items, but the crew that came out to complete the move apologized and acknowledged that the disorder of the move (clearly labeled boxes that had been placed in wrong rooms often on the wrong floor, clearly labeled packing instructions that were disregarded, broken items left lying around, packing paper, boxes and other trash left in our home, not to mention the general mess, etc) they saw in our homes was not the type of work that the members who worked our job produced. This clean up crew apologized and even told us some of the ways they knew things had gone wrong, for example, they told us the way they are supposed to stack boxes in a tapered fashion, leaving walkways in each room, etc. In addition, we literally had 12-15 boxes of Waterford fine crystal in original packaging that was labeled in large black letters for the Dining Room; they stacked it in the garage. The time the second crew spent re-arranging items was due to the fact that the first crew had placed so many items in the wrong rooms. We have a 6 bedroom home with three levels, so it is not unreasonable to expect the service we paid for as part of the reason we hire professional movers is to prevent us from trying to move heavy boxes from level to level. Fact 4: We have not received anything from this firm free. We have receipts from Mark the Mover totaling $6,000. In fact, some of damage they did was irreparable on glass items, for example that can?t be repaired and we have not requested compensation. The furniture person they sent was a nice guy who spent half of his first visit conveying the apologies of Mr. Warren. The items they damaged required at least 4-5 repair visits as there were times the furniture person would have to wait for stain, epoxy, etc to dry so he could not perform all work in the same day. Again, Mr. Warren has no regard for how much this disrupts a customer?s work schedule as we had to leave our offices each time and meet the furniture person, and some visits lasted for multiple hours. The damage to the side of the Hiboy, and the gash in the leg of the dining room table were done by the crew ? I just don?t think they like to acknowledge when they make mistakes. For example, even though my husband found the broken standing mirror in pieces while the crew was still here that night, everyone on the crew said they had not broken it but it was clearly standing at our old home yet in several pieces by the time it arrived at the new home. We will attest to that under oath, and we take truth seriously as we are military veterans and licensed officers of the court, so perjury would result in disbarment. The truth is the furniture repairman is a small business owner who also sells furniture and refinishes antiques, etc so we had discussions with him about his business. He had us go online to see his catalog of furniture and then provided repair quotes directly to us on two other items in our home (a charred candle burn on a wood table ? this blackened burn spot is clearly not something that even looks like it could have happened in a move, as well as a rusty broken key from a chest that has been in my family almost a century, so again it clearly was an issue that had not occurred in a move and we have never presented it as the case. These discussions about furniture and antiques were clearly separate from the Mark the Mover repairs. In fact, the furniture repair person is now looking for the replacement key for our heirloom chest at an antique dealer in Decatur. Fact 5: Not that it is anyone?s concern as to my whereabouts during a move, but I was actually out of town as the continual delays with our closing date resulted in a conflict with my professional schedule. I was a featured speaker (pro bono) at a teen leadership conference, so my husband and I decided that it was appropriate for me to honor that commitment, even though I would have much rather been on hand to oversee our move, ? but I made a commitment and needed to keep it. When I arrived back in Atlanta, I never cursed at any of the crew and in fact, made sure each of them had gotten a break to eat some of the take-out dinner we'd bought for them. My conversations with them were typically about the new home as the area in which they were unloading was a door near the kitchen so I stayed there to answer questions, and even began to unpack some items to make room for boxes on the island and counters. The crew joked about coming over for the big Easter brunch I was planning. Near the end of the move when all of the constant hand trucks, large boxes, furniture moves had stopped, I had an opportunity to survey the various floors and that is when I realized so many of the boxes had been placed in rooms that did not correspond with the labels on the outside of the box. I was particularly concerned about my new china collection and realized most of it had incorrectly been placed in the garage as well as the basement media room even though it was all clearly labeled for the dining room in bold black marker. When I approached the crew leaders about this, they were again nice to us, but their response to each other was appalling. As the customer, all I wanted at the time was for the items to be moved to the right place, but unfortunately what started was yet another big argument amongst the crew over who did what. At that point, I asked them all to leave. I couldn?t believe they were fighting each other again when I was faced with thousands of dollars of limited edition china, etc, that was misplaced. There is not a lazy bone in our bodies; my husband and I have worked for everything we have, but we work hard for it. We expect everyone else to do the same and when you are wrong, to simply admit it and fix it. There is no reason to resort to name-calling and overly emotional, inappropriate tactics. Bottom line is buyer beware. If your move goes fine with this firm, all is well, but if for some reason, they don?t do their jobs and they damage your home, or your furnishings, or misplace items, etc, they will likely treat you as if they are doing you a favor when you ask them to correct their mistakes. That?s unfortunate ? firms who value customers take pride in correcting their mistakes. We are selling another home and will hire another mover. This time I will pay closer attention to any bad reviews, ask more questions, and obtain references of customers for which they have satisfactorily corrected mistakes. I won?t take the chance again on Mark the Mover and I?d advise you to find a firm whose goal is to earn your business as well. Good luck with your move.
Description of Work: We hired them to pack and move to a larger home, and also move items from storage. The eight man crew treated our belongings, such as brand new, unopened china and crystal in original packaging, like it was worthless. The move was disappointing and we are still experiencing the headaches caused by our selection of this firm.

Response from Mark the Mover Inc
We have a 96% approval rate on Angie’s List since 2006. We have 4 complaints in this time and 3 of the 4 we didn’t move. I assure you, we are not perfect and things occur on these moves. We regularly go beyond our contractual obligation to satisfy customers as we have in this instance. Please consider the following: Fact 1: As stated before, the first documented contact came from the shipper’s handler (not the shipper) w/ a follow up later from her husband. If she did call, she did not secure a spot on our schedule. We were told there were 3 storage units and some miscellaneous furniture from a house that was to be moved. The handler was vague and no mention of packing was made at this time. The husband called a couple of days later and said we may need to pack a few items. We sent 3 of our top crews to move these folks. We could not find any requests for a multiple day move within our records. The member was vague and did not specify the items we would be moving. We were told a few boxes needed packed, not 135 boxes, which is what we ended up packing. Our focus is on the quality of the move, not the quantity of moves. No one is paid commission here. This member was vague in regard to volume of items to be packed and moved. Ideally we don’t want our crews working more than 10-12 hours in a day as that leads to damage, w/c claims, and FMCSA hours of service violations. I am in agreement w/ the customer that this should have been scheduled for 2 days. A pack crew for the first day and a 3 truck move the next. It would have been scheduled this way had they been up front w/ us. Fact 2: I don’t know if the men fought all night. I know they were demeaned and threatened by the member. While the husband helpful and friendly, the wife, her sister and her husband were demeaning, rude, and generally unpleasant to my men. This contributed to a less than ideal situation, and unfortunately the brother in law and sister provided much of the direction that wasn’t consistent w/ what the shippers wanted. Our men are trained to do what they are told. I don’t remember specifically addressing profitability w/ this shipper, but may have done so in attempt to make light conversation. The one and only time I spoke with the member it was cordial, but she did most of the talking. Damages unfortunately occur despite our best efforts, and they do take time to fix if done correctly. I realize it is inconvenient, but don’t know any way around it. We sent the second crew completely free of charge, and fail to see any reason for complaint. Fact 3: If there are additional damages we are unaware of them. I suggest for the member to submit a claim and they will be addressed under the conditions of the contract. We were aware the customer was unhappy and sent a crew completely free of charge in an attempt to appease an unhappy customer. We were not required to do this. They were instructed to handle the situation in a “yes ma’am, no ma’am” manner. Some of the perceived disorder was due to the fact that the original crew was never afforded the opportunity to tidy up in the normal way during the post move walk thru. We were chased off the job when the shipper told my men – “ get the *** out of my house.” We were instructed to put the crystal in the garage as the dining room was getting cluttered. It is possible we misplaced some boxes, however generally we put the boxes where instructed. Fact 4: The cost of this job was $4,486.50 not $6,000. We sent a crew free of charge that worked 9 hours for a value of $1,260 and settled claims that cost $875 w/out invoking the $300 deductible that was chosen. The statement they did not receive anything free is simply not true. Admittedly we broke the vanity mirror, light fixture in the stairwell and stairs where the light fell. All were fixed to the customer’s satisfaction as signed on the damage report. We have no problem acknowledging our shortcomings, but have a problem fixing items we didn’t break. The more I delved into this matter it became clear we were not responsible for the hi boy, dining room table, or broken key for the trunk. Prior to the wife unwittingly acknowledging the key was previously broken off in the trunk, the husband had steered the blame to us. The repairman is willing to attest to this under oath. Fact 5: Unfortunately I believe much of the problems on this job would have been avoided had the wife (member) been present. She arrived at the very end of the job and simply didn’t know what had occurred. While she never used profanity w/ me, my crew and office personnel all state she repeatedly burst into profanity laced tirades. We were told to put the crystal in the garage as the dining room was becoming cluttered. Moreover our crews typically put things where they are told regardless of labeling. I can assure you my men wouldn’t have carried these items the added distance to the basement media room unless instructed. At the end of the day, we sent 3 trucks and 8 men to pack and move this customer. 12.5 hours and 135 packed boxes later, we had moved what we were instructed to move by the parties present. We sent a crew for free and didn’t require payment of the deductible, hoping that this good faith effort would appease this member and we wouldn’t be going through this complaint process. We are sorry for any inconveniences and troubles; this was tricky situation to deal with. Sincerely, John Warren

The move went fine. The important thing was that we were able to get out of the apartment on the 1st of the month so that we didn't end up having to pay another month's rent!
Description of Work: We needed a mover at the last minute and Mark the Mover fit us in late on a Friday afternoon. They moved the large furniture from an apartment in ATL to Fayettevile. They wrapped the furninture in plastic and made sure that nothing happened to it. They were professional and efficient.

Let's just cut to the chase: this is a fantastic company! I hired Mark the Mover for (believe it or not!) a Sunday move--just before Christmas 2010. However, a snow/ice storm blew through the night before the big day, so I called MTM on the morning of the move to inquire about postponing/rescheduling since conditions in our area seemed pretty dicey. No problem, they said. We'll move you the next day--no cancellation/rescheduling fees. (How awesome is that?) The next day, our moving crew--headed by the incredible Charley--arrived on time and set to work. They were spectacular! Each man worked quickly, quietly, professionally, thoughtfully, and responsibly on both ends of the move from loading to unloading. Their greatest courtesy was asking questions when they had them, particularly about the placement of furniture, heavy/bulky items, and boxes. At five months pregnant, I wasn't about to go hauling stuff around, but in those few moments when I did attempt to help, a very protective Charley stepped in and redirected one of his crew members to assist. When it came down to the paperwork at the end of the job, Charley was efficient, client-oriented, and downright funny. He was a pleasure to work with and do business with. Yep, the price was a little steep for an in-town move, but oh-so worth it from start to finish. So long as we're in an area that Mark the Mover services, we're hiring them!
Description of Work: I hired MTM for an in-town residential move in Gainesville, Georgia.

Everything went like clockwork. The work estimate was "by the hour", and the crew worked hard from start to finish. The crew chief, Charlie, ran a "tight ship" and kept things moving (pun intended). I was very impressed with the skill, professionalism, and strong work ethic of the whole company. We found no significant damage to anything. The crew was very careful in wrapping and moving every piece. They made a potentially tenuous day run very smoothly.
Description of Work: I called company for an estimate and the rep came out promptly to evaluate the job and give an estimate. Moving crew arrived on moving day, packed up our larger furniture and household goods and moved across town to our new house. They moved everything into the house and placed items as directed.

This is the third time I've used Mark the Mover. Several of my friends have used them, too. They are very professional and very fast! Everything moved in a little over 4 hours. They also set up your washer and dryer for you. Great price for the service. High marks to this company!
