Finding a provider who would tackle the job was my initial challenge. I came across Atlanta Fireplace Specialists and made the best choice no doubt. Lance and Jason did an unbelievable job, exceeding all expectations. From the initial visit to the installation, they were promptly on schedule. They went to greater depths by selecting the marble to match the existing surround. They meticulously installed the marble insuring it was properly supported. My fireplace never looked so good. I will now be using them for all of my fireplace services, I was that impressed!

I was very impressed with the handling of the initial visit to develop a quote. The same individual that quoted the job also led the crew that did the work to the fireplace. I was very impressed by the professionalism from beginning to end of the process, and the quality of the work is second to none.

We have been unable to use the gas feed in our fireplace since we purchased our home. Ed and Lance inspected the gas lines first, one of which turned out to be rusted. They fully explained what the problem was with our fireplace. They laid a tarp down so when they took out the bricks it wouldn't damage our wood floors. They replaced the bad line and old valve and re-bricked the hearth. Very thorough and clean job and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend them.

I've never had a company do such an amazing job. My old fireplaces hearth was broken down the middle because it's original build was unlevel. He removed the old surround without having to remove the mantel. I chose to use tile and he expertly installed and grouted it. I wish you could see a before and after picture, It's actually better now than the original. This man took care to keep everything clean using a tarp to cover the floor. His partner did an expert job cutting the tile, both men were nice guys. He even used the extra paint I had to touch up the wall after he had grouted around the fireplace. The tile was not as thick as the original granite and he used moulding to coverup the difference of the two, expertly grouting all to be even. I can highly recommend Atlanta Fireplace Specialists. These men are experts in what they do...

We hired AFS to clean the chimney of our newly purchased home. After inspection, Lance said it didn't need cleaning - I was initially thrilled he was so honest about this. But, since we were transitioning it from a gas-log to wood-burning fireplace, he and his partner offered to "get it ready" for wood fires, install a wood-burning grade grate, etc. Moving from Florida, I knew nothing about fireplaces, so I agreed and asked them to leave the gas logs outside. I went upstairs to change the baby while they worked. They met me at the door about half an hour later, saying they were finished and leaving. When I checked the fireplace, I was surprised little had changed except the gas logs and embers were gone. There was no new grate. Worse, our expensive gas logs were nowhere to be found! I called Lance and he said (1) the original grate was fine for wood fires so we didn't need a new one (but the price didn't change), and (2) our ceramic logs were "ALL USED UP" and no good anymore. A quick Google search told me ceramic logs DO NOT get "used up" - they are good for decades on end!! When I asked Lance to return them, he said he was too busy and they weren't good anyway. I insisted; after some back-and-forth, Lance returned with HALF of our original gas logs, and a few smaller logs that were a DIFFERENT COLOR, saying he "couldn't find" our original small logs. To add insult to injury, these guys charged me about $200 (more than what they often charge to clean a whole chimney). So I basically paid $200 for them to sweep up some embers and replace my expensive ceramic logs with a mismatched bunch. One positive note - they did tell me how to start a wood fire and gave some good tips on keeping smoke out of the house. But overall, not a good experience.

Response from Atlanta Fireplace Specialists
Wow! This is not how I remember this job at all!! We were hired to come to your home and convert the fireplace from gas logs to wood burning. The gas logs we old and brittle. Gas logs are really only good for about ten years. After that they get very fragile and will only be okay if they are not touched. If you handle them, they will crack or fall apart. Since the logs were in such bad shape, I admit, we assumed you did not want to keep them since you hired us to remove them. You DID NOT ask us to leave them. In fact you were standing right there when we put them in a trash bag and you held the door for us as we took them out to the truck. I got a call three hours later asking where the logs were. I told you that I did not realize that you wanted to keep them and they were in my truck. I told you that we were very busy, but I would be back with them as soon as possible. When I got home I took the logs out of the trash bag and wrapped them up in bubble wrap and put them in a box for safe keeping. While doing this I found that two of the logs were completely crushed (since they were brittle). I then went through other logs we had to find some top logs that would work. Two logs got crushed and I gave you four logs in return. I then returned the logs with in a week, which you told me was fine since you were just going to store them anyway. When I returned the logs I apologized for the misunderstanding. I told you about the broken top logs and how I replaced them. You thanked me. I also told you that if you decided to put the logs back in, I would come back FOR FREE to install them for you to make up for it. As far as the fireplace not looking any different. We removed the logs, grate, gas log burner, sand, embers, lava rock. We then replaced the gas log burner with brand new gas line parts to give you a wood burning gas starter. We did not have a new grate with us to fit your fireplace so we told you that the gas log grate would work for now, but you should go up to HomeDepot and purchase a new log grate for $20. If anyone has read this far, I admit a mistake was made. We assumed that what we were hired to take out was trash. This customer's job has actually changed the way we do business (long before the bad review). Ever since this job, we do not take anything out of your home with out you directly telling us to. We ask every time now and we often get laughs when we do. People say things like "why would I want to keep that?" . . . and then we tell them about this job and explain this kind of confusion will never happen again. We do our very best to take care of all of our customers with the best service possible at a fair price. However, we are human, sometimes minor mistakes are made and we do our very best to correct the problem. Life is a journey full of opportunities to learn. We learned an important lesson from this job so the bad review does not hurt. 95% of our other reviews are straight A's. Our customers love what we do for them and most will be with us for life. We treat you like family. Thanks for reading, Lance

It went perfectly! First - I set up the appointment online and, at that time, advised what I was looking for. They gave me a quote which was exactly what it ended up costing me - no additional "tack on" charges as many other companies do. Ed - the technician - was here right on time and inspected both fireplaces - especially the gas lines and how each fireplace operated. I was interested in knowing if there was any easier way to turn on the fireplaces because the reason I hardly ever use them is there was a complicated description of all I had to do given to me when I bought the house! Since I had had a wood burning fireplace before where I lived - I assumed this all had to be done and it took a good 15 minutes to turn it on! He advised that I could just leave the pilot light on all the time and then I would only have to do one other step to actually turn on the flames! Amazing to me! He spent quite some time explaining how all is safe doing that and how the fireplace is actually set up to work. I really learned a lot! Only wish I had called them sooner! I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Because I don't use my fireplaces (2) very much all year and they are gas - I only wanted them to inspect both fireplaces and answer a few of my questions - which they did!

They didn't have a Big Deal in Angie's List but they were well rated. It was very good. They were prompt, professional, did what they said that they would do and cleaned up everything. When they left I had a spotless hearth. I would tell others to do it. I thought it was a tad high but their service was really good and their product was good. I can't really complain too much.

. I tried to get him to give me an estimate for almost four months. Something always came up and he did not show up for appointments. Very unprofessional and I was shocked at the reviews people have left for this company. I was trying to hand him an easy job and he did not even try to go after it. After the fourth no show, and then a text from him saying he would get right back to me with another time, I never heard from him again. I would not waste your time with this guy if you are in need of a job you want done in the near future.

(member name removed), I am sorry that you are so upset. The job you asked me to do was based off of you getting used logs from your lake house, which took you months. When you finally got the logs, we were slammed. I own a very small company and get overloaded this time of year. We also have one of those jobs where sometimes things have to be flexible. I had talked to you a couple times about coming over. The last time we had an appointment set up, I had a job run over and asked to reschedule. You told me "Be here by 9 am tomorrow or don't bother calling again." I already had that next day at 9 am scheduled and could not make it. I did what you told me to do. . . did not call again. I have won the super service award for FOUR years in a row because we give great service and do excellent work when we do make it to your house. We are human and mistakes get made. We also cannot even come close to getting to every job that comes our way. We simply do the best we can everyday to take care of as many people as possible. Good luck with your project, I hope it goes well.

Small business, well run and quick follow up, no extra charge. Made sure I was completely satisfied, met initial expectations, even after getting paid. Wood burning fireplace is certainly a WONDERFUL aspect of our home.
Description of Work: Bought new house, built 1981. Fireplaces in both basement and main floor. Previous owner converted to GAS fireplace. There were obvious cracks in the chimney/bricks, thus why I did not use, until repaired. Possibly why previous owner converted to GAS vs. repairing the chimney. Converted back to 100% wood burning and sealed GAS lines. Costly but worth it, love it! Possibly done at lower cost but I wanted it done right, less future worries. 1) Living Room: remove gas line, seal ash dump in firebox, seal gaps in firebox, cut out damper assembly to provide access to smoke chamber, parge smoke chamber with 5 buckets of ChamberTech2000, and add a lock top damper. 2) Basement: Seal gaps in firebox, cut out damper assembly, parge smoke chamber with 8 buckets of chambertech2000, add a lock top damper. 3) Seal the crown to prevent water from leaking into the chimney. 4) Seal the shoulders to cover the many holes you can see in the pictures. 5) Add a masonry chimney cap to protect the top of the chimney.

The technician came out and was very professional. Informed me that my fireplace could not be converted to gas due to the size, which was disappointing since I paid $149 just to have them tell me they can't do it. Additionally provided me estimate for damper install and gas log inserts. I opted to have just damper installed. I was informed someone would call me to set up appointment - that was almost two week ago. No one has called.

I apologize that you feel we have let you down. If you had a concept of the volume we are dealing with this year you would understand that we are doing the very best we can to keep up. We are not perfect. All we can do is the best we can to take care of everyone and hopefully not to let anyone fall through the cracks. However, in the mind numbing chaos that assaults us before Thanksgiving, sometimes it happens. If you would like to get put on the schedule, you can call or email us as well. Thanks, Lance

Response from Atlanta Fireplace Specialists
Actually the job I was hired to do was a dryer vent sweep. I don't remember ever even looking at the fireplace in your home. Upon attempting to sweep the dryer vent, I discovered the reason it was not working was the fact that it was flexible duct in the wall. It was pinched off at the top of the wall and was allowing no air flow. The flexible duct is also not allowed by code to run behind sheet rock and was a major fire hazard. I did not complete the job the first trip to repair the duct because once I started the repair, I discovered that the duct was at least twice as long as I thought. I made a mistake when I estimated the repairs and did not show up with enough materials to complete the job. I did however "rig" the repair to at least allow the dryer to function until my return. I was very overwhelmed with work in that moment and had to schedule to come back. I was booked out for weeks, but made the time to come finish on weekends (my days off). I also did not charge more than the original estimate, even though the job was at least twice as large as I thought when I gave you the price. I worked alone on this one because I was already losing money on it, why would I have a paid employee with me, so I could lose even more money along the way. I apologize that it took longer than expected, but sometimes that is how things play out. All I/we can do is to do the best job we can every time and sort it out along the way. . . for better or worse. Bottom line, once I finished, the dryer vent is up to code and functions as expected. I have also not had any warranty calls on this job. It may have been on ordeal, but at least it was done right.

They were great. They cleaned my dryer vent. They went into the attic and said it was the wrong kind outlet. They went to Home Depot to buy the right outlet because that's why the dryer was clogged. They were very professional. They went outside to look at the fireplace. They said the pan needed to be replaced and they replaced that. They replaced an outside light that was high.
