home inspection, septic tank

I am purchasing a house so I called Meeks to perform a Septic Tank Inspection on the property. I could not be there at the time of inspection so my closing coordinator arranged everything and the seller was there. House is built in 2004 so not that old.. To start off, before they even started they demanded a check, so my wife had to leave work drive them a check before they would even begin...okay strike one. They performed the pump out of the tank and the inspection. They refused to talk to the seller, perhaps that was because we as the buyer were paying for it. Seller said every time he would walk outside the Meeks person would go into his truck. So the report gets sent to my closing coordinator, and then to me. The report is a check box style report and reported to have and quot;back pitch issue and recommended septic tank replacementand quot;. Well that threw up red flags to me as the home buyer. The seller was also confused as they didn't bother to show him anything. The report did not contain pictures, or anything just check boxes and a few scribbled words. So I called them and they said the pipe the inlet pipe is lower than the outlet pipe and said either the inlet side has fallen/settled or the tank is no longer level. First repair option was $600 and not a 100% sure of a fix which was to try to re-adjust the pipe from the house to the tank....next was $3200 for a new tank, and if the drainage field was bad - now we are at $6500. Well as with any large repair, I call another company - the owner talked to me, felt my pain and worked around my schedule and met there the next day and he did another inspection HIMSELF - FOR FREE. Within 5 min of looking at it, he goes - and quot;Huh see there, that outlet pipe looks like its not level.and quot; He had his helper dig up that pipe - 10 min later - YEP that was not level - took a shovel and re-leveled that pipe. Seemed that side of the pipe is what settled this not only fixed the main issue, but improved the flow to the drainage field. We ran all the houses water and a garden hose into the tank and the flow was working just as expected, and the inlet was now 1-2and quot; above the outlet - AS IT SHOULD BE. Placed a portion of cinderblock under the pipe to prevent it from sinking, placed cement around the outlet pipe, closed the lids and buttoned it up, even raked the yard to make it all look good! In total - 30 min and $200 later - problem solved! Compared to what Meeks wanted - I say that is a DEAL! I think Meeks was trying to get a sale out of the inspection instead of taking care of a customer - well I know who I will call when I need something worked on now - NOT MEEKS!

Contacted Meeks by phone, explained the problem and was advised that a plumber could be at the house in about two hours. About 45 minutes later, Meeks called and said that their plumber had finished up another job earlier and was on the way. The plumber Mike arrived and replaced the piping inside the meter pit that was leaking. The job was neat, fast and professional. We were very pleased.
Description of Work: Discovered a major leak in the meter pit in front of our home. The leak was on our side of the meter so it was our responsibility to repair. Water to house was shut off to avoid any further loss.

The usual prompt and efficient Meeks service. They brought the new AO Smith hot water heater with them even though they had not yet diagnosed the repair in person, which I really liked . Everything done in approx 2.5 hrs. Cost was an indicated above. They don't itemize tank+labor---this was a lump sum price quoted. Around $350 higher than I've every paid for identical job maybe 7-8 years ago. Currency inflation? Effect of economic uncertainties? Don't know for certain. Internet price on this hot water heater is $650 with free shipping.
Description of Work: Replaced 80 gal hot water heater that was failing.

On the day Hurricane Isaac came through Vero Beach, our one toilet was cracked (by my husband very early that morning) and we called Meeks Plumbing that same morning. They recommended what we should do, and we went to their offices and picked out two styles we liked. (We decided to change both bathrooms because the other toilet was very old and ready to fall apart, literally.) The plumber, Stan, was here by 9:30 a.m. the next morning as promised, was very professional and kind, had all the tools and equipment he needed and was finished by 11:30. We were so impressed by his speed with what he did; he wasn't appearing to rush through his job. He just knew what he was doing. Additionally, he advised my husband about our main water line into the house and the fix it needed and didn't charge any extra time that it took with that (about 30 minutes). We know some of the Meeks family in Vero Beach, and have done business with them before. They are a strong Christian family, and wonderful business people, as are their staff. Several of our friends have told us they always call them first if they have a problem with plumbing and that related area.
Description of Work: We had two old toilets removed (one had a crack in the tank) and new ones installed. On one of them, a new shut-off valve and line was changed.

Overall fine, but the leak stopped in the middle of their investigation, so they could not go further. This was my second and quot;estimateand quot; I had one on Saturday who told me I had to replace the hot water heater and have the whole house repiped.Needless to say seeing these men tell me at this time no need to replace the water heater and not now on the repiping but maybe later, which I will deal with if I have to. I pictured dry wall repairs, moving my dog and birds for 5 days , and being out of the house for two while the water was shut off. They do not know if the leak will start up again or if them investigating unblocked a pipe but for whatever reason the leak stopped and they could not nor would not repair something they could not see.Thank you gentlemen.
Description of Work: Plumbers arrived on time, went right to work trying to find a leak in my house. Courteous at all times and informative of what they were doing and what they found every step of the way.

It was expensive but it was an excellent job. We chose them because other wanted to cut out a part of the wall. He put an extra clean out and we didn't even ask him to. They are expensive but they are the best. We will call them for any plumbing work because of their expertise. The quality was worth the price.

Diagnosis and replacement done. Turned out the new POU hot water heater was defective! Meeks returned a few days later with replacement. Only criticism is their markup on cost of new heater was 40% ($225 vs. $160 Internet price w/shipping). I know that a markup is customary, but I think a 20% markup would have been more fair. Labor charge was 127 for approx 30 mins of diagnosis and installation. I have no idea is 40% is standard in the industry.

Digging the front yard started monday morning yesterday and there was a truckload of pipes and roots that had to go. And went. Whole yard was prepped and all new drainfield installed in that one single day. Inspector came and was quite impressed this morning. Then the tractor and the 2 men put the yard back together in no time. They were done and pulling out by the time I got Angie's e-mail asking me about the experience. So all is done and back to normal at noon already on this tuesday december 20, 2011. I am convinced that it was Santa's very first septic request in his lifetime!
Description of Work: Septic pump service detailed in earlier report. New septic drainfield (4X40ft long) pipes installed and attached to old septic tank in front yard on monday.(12/19) Old small disposed-of pipes were totally filled with dead roots since front yard has very mature humongous old trees and sprinkler system was even inoperable for the same reason.

I was experiencing some problems when I flushed my toilet. It was emptying very slow. I called Meeks Plumbing to check out the problem. They arrived quickly and on time. They performed a septic tank flush and informed me that my septic tank is due for replacement. They told me the price for the flush could be applied to the bill for the replacement if I decide to use them. I'm going to get a few estimate on the replacement since it's such a large and expensive project, but Meeks Plumbing is on my list of providers to use.

Their slogan is If It Leaks, Call Meeks. They are the only plumbers we use. We have used them for 10 years. Their price is comparable to what everybody else in the area charges. Their prices are reasonable. They have always solved the problem on the first visit. They are very responsive; they usually come within an hour or two of when we call. They usually come in within a 4 hour window. They know their job and know what they are doing. I will use them again in the future.
