They were absolutely fantastic. They were very professional and I can't say enough good things about them. I was actually recommended by a friend who had used them and she said that they were great and honest so I used them based on my friend's recommendation. We called them out and the guy that came out was very down to earth and very honest and I really like that. He is very reliable and just a very nice guy. His wife got into a car accident while he was there with us so he was having talk to her while he was bear with us. He was very professional and very family oriented. I was just so impressed with him. I will absolutely use them again.

Fabulous service!!! Allen (the tech) was outstanding -- on time, professional, clean, courteous. He spent a long time fixing my system and getting it ready for the summer. The maintenance plan made this inexpensive and effective. I will definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Fixed system and provided preventive maintenance -- I got the annual maintenance plan, so this price includes just the visit today, although I have another one because I got the annual service plan.

Guy arrived a little early and just asked where and got to work. Had a couple questions which he answered while he worked. About two years ago they enlarged our duct works to help remove humidity and allowing us to stop running dehumidifiers (two) thus saving us roughly $100 a month. Was so impressed I took their yearly contract.

We presumed the pilot light to be out in the furnace (an issue we have had since we moved into this house). The furnace fan kicked on during one of the cold spells over the past few months. After running for about 30 or so minutes it never got warm. (As we understand the unit was equipped with a delay during which time the burners do not fire up if the furnace has not been in use for some time. However, we felt that 30+ minutes was excessive.) We shut it down and called Marlin James (recommended multiple times to us by neighbors). When the technician came out to light the pilot light, he noticed that the pilot light was already lit. He performed a thorough inspection of the well-over 20-year-old furnace and noticed a number of dangerous issues (corrosion, leaks, "flame penetration through heat exchange," etc.) and very highly recommended that we do not start up the furnace again until the issues were resolved. "Due to age and condition system must be replaced." We ultimately opted for a complete replacement of the propane furnace with a heat pump. Additionally,we had the new unit installed in the garage rather than the attic, where the original furnace had been installed. So added to the scope of the replacement project was not only removal of the original unit from the attic, but installation in a new location along with the accompanying construction, duct, electrical and A/C drainage work. Based upon Marlin James? recommendation we also had an additional return installed in the house for better operation efficiency. If I could rate this company higher than "A+" I would do so. We were very impressed with many things, among which: 1) their honesty when coming out for our initial pilot light request, 2) their responsiveness throughout the entire project, 3) their patience with my pre-installation questions (I am by no means very "technical" when it comes to these types of things), 4) their display of teamwork during the project, 5) the clean-up after the project had been completed - overall, just the courtesy and professionalism of all who were involved. On the day of the original service call we were able to get in touch with Marlin James to discuss a replacement system. They came out later that day to survey the situation, reviewed it thoroughly with me and answered questions. The next day they provided a proposal/estimate. We set up a time for the actual removal of old and installation of new. They were on time and completed the entire project within one day. The fact that the job was completed in one day isn?t really what was impressive, however. It was the teamwork I witnessed. This was a big project. Over the course of the day, there were many technicians who came out, each having his "role" or expertise. This also gave us confidence that a job was being done well, not just fast. And the project was done as if they were doing it in their own house. After the project was completed in the evening, you barely knew they had ever been there. Project clean-up was thorough. Pretty much all that was left were a few remnants of the old system in the attic and a very neatly installed new system. Additionally, about a week after installation, they followed up with a call and more information on some of the details (forthcoming county inspections, etc.) I would definitely recommend Marlin James for any A/C maintenance or projects, whether small or large as in this case. They also have a plan, "Red?s Club," which I have yet to look into in detail. But from what I understand this is a maintenance plan where they come out once or twice a year for general inspection and maintenance - and is relatively low-cost, especially considering the initial investment of an entire new system.
Description of Work: Replaced an over 20-year-old A/C system (furnace, air handler, compressor) with a new heat pump; moved the air handler assembly from the attic into the garage; installed a new return in the house

UPDATE 9/28/13 Marlin James agreed to settle the claim against them for installation errors in full and provided reimbursement for the costs I incurred to fix the problems. I commend Mr. Clark on his decision to stand by his company's work and although disappointed that it took as long as it did given the evidence presented to them, this is now behind us. I have upgraded my review for their professionalism but reserve my opinion on quality and responsiveness given the delays and time it took to resolve this. Marlin James was contracted to install a Trane HVAC system for our new home construction. We recently discovered errors with the setup and wiring. After taking occupancy, we notified them of 3 different issues we were experiencing with the HVAC system; upstairs unit not holding temperature to set point, downstairs unit starts hard and dims lighting, and upstairs thermostat not programmed correctly. Marlin James sent service technicians out and claimed to have fixed the problems. Since this was after the initial summer in the house, the problems symptoms did not present with the cooler weather. This summer,we experienced the same issues and contracted another HVAC company to check the system, for a second opinion. It was discovered that all 3 units were improperly charged with refrigerant - 2 of them severely overcharged. 2 of the unit's air handlers were not wired properly for 2-stage operation, and all 3 thermostats were not properly wired for 2-stage operation and all 3 thermostats were programmed incorrectly for single stage systems. We paid $627.00 to have these problems corrected and on 8/26/13 I notified Scott Clark, owner of Marlin James that his technicians had incorrectly set up our system, provided him with the service technician's report and invoice. Although outside the warranty period, I expressed to him that I felt Marlin James is accountable for the issues and if he agreed, would like reimbursement for these repairs.Mr. Clark expressly told me that "If Marlin James was responsible in any way, they would stand behind their work and make this right".After 3 weeks of waiting for a reply, they have offered a maintenance contract worth $507 as compensation for the repair costs. Although thiswould imply that Marlin James has accepted responsibility for the initial installation errors and has offered comparable compensation, I rejected the offer and requested that I be reimbursed for my out of pocket cost of repairs. Mr. Clark has chosen to ignore my request and has broken off communications aimed at resolving this amicably. I think anyone considering Marlin James should be aware that serious mistakes were made, due to a lack of product knowledge and expertise demonstrated by their technicians. While mistakes happen, a company who fails to stand by their work and subsequently ignores their responsibility should not be trusted to get your business. Please think about what happens when you have an issue and how they will respond.
Description of Work: Marlin James was the HVAC contractor for our new construction home in 2012. They installed 3 Trane 16XLi 2-stage A/C systems in our home.

They were very prompt, responsive when I made the initial phone call. They had somebody out the very next day. They resolved it in a very quick fashion and for a reasonable fee. At that point, they introduced me to this maintenance program and I thought it was wise so I took advantage of it. I kinda forgot about it and I got a postcard in the mail saying it's time for my semi-annual visit. So I gave them a call, scheduled the appointment. I like the fact they ask if there's anything wrong that needs immediate attention or is it just a checkup. In this case, I said it's a checkup. They scheduled it, the fellow came out a few minutes early and spent an hour working on the unit, came back out and gave us a written update as to what he had done and it cost nothing. So I'm very pleased. He took the time to introduce himself before he went to the unit and let us know he was here and what he was going to be doing.
Description of Work: Marlin James came out and identified a leak I had in my air conditioning and resolved it before it became a problem. They have a program where you pay $99 for a year and it covers 2 visits per year. They'll come in, clean your air conditioner, do maintenance and make sure everything is working properly. If any parts need to be replaced, that's an additional cost but they have a 10% discount on the parts.

He came in and did maintenance. Changed the filter. The next day the whole thing started to leak. I called them back. They came to check it out. They made sure that it was not something their guy did. They did not charge me for coming back. He saw that the wrong vent was put in originally. There was something basic problems with the installation. He said to repair it would have cost 3000 dollars. He said to call the original guy. I called him and he said give me a chance to get this taken care of. He did it at no charge.

My A/C unit is now ten years old and I wanted to verify the compressor's condition as related to me by a technician from my former A/C service provider (Thorpe) who told me the unit was failing and suggested I replace the compressor. The technician from Thorpe actually said he would order the compressor but after three months I still had not heard from them so I decided to try Marlin James after reading their reviews on Angie's list. Allen, the technician from Marlin James, was very courteous & professional. He explained that the unit, although working, was showing signs of strain and was undersized for the size of my house. He also explained that replacing the compressor by itself would be uneconomical and more expensive in the long run due to the freon used by my unit being phased out of the market. He assured me that if the unit failed and I chose Marlin James to replace it they would provide a temp unit until work was completed. This was a practice I was unaware of and pleasantly surprised by because if the unit fails in the middle of summer I do not want to swelter in Florida's heat. Lastly, Marlin James techs use plugs to seal where they take the measurement for the return air, a practice not used by their competitors who chose instead to place foil tape over the holes. The only reason I did not rate the price as excellent was that Marlin James service price was a little higher than the past companies I've used. I've tried several A/C services over the years but I think Marlin James is heads above its competition.

After I did not receive a call back from another 24 hour service company on Angie's List I decided to give this place a try. It was late Sunday morning and Gary, the service man called me right back. We had a leak in the ceiling of our garage right under the A/C unit. He was able to come within a few hours, was very polite and explained exactly what he had done. I would not hesitate to use them again, and will definitely call on them in the future. The cost was very minimal and he was both honest and thorough. Very happy!

Our family's experience with Malrin James has been truly OUTSTANDING!!! There are not enough superlatives to capture their service -- from Scotty's honest assessment of our home's 15 year-old system, through his detailed replacement plan and design options (to meet our fmaily's needs), to the installation crew (Bobby, Larry and Jesus) ... they took such good care of our home, and my family, as though they were their own! Everyone -- from the office team coordination and follow-ups (Scotty and crew) to ensure oour needs were met - were exemplary! Our AC is running -- quietly, efficiently and effectively -- for the first time in many years. Thanks ot the replaced duct work (7" duct to 9" duct), our MBR is now far coller than at any time since its construction 15 years ago! WELL DONE and THANK YOU!!! Am signing up, today, for their annual "REDS CLUB" plan for twice a year maintenance -- to fully protect our investment for many years to come! Thanks to the Marlin James family, again, and I look forward to partnering with you for many years to come!!!

No surprises, arrived on time and went right to work. Ran 35 feet of 16 inch, 25 feet of 18 inch with hardware. They were here at 9:30 and gone at 2:30. They cleaned up as best they could considering the amount of JUNK in our garage.
Description of Work: First thought is I thought I left areview already because we were so happy with the out come. We had major humidity problems after have an A/C system replaced (running two 65 pint dehumidifiers to solve the problem). We had had 5 or 6 A/C people out here and no one could solve the problem. Three types of A/C filters were tried, blower was set to the lowest level, freon was added, freon was subtracted and yet the humidity stayed at 60% during the day and 70+% atnight. Scotty Anderson came out, checked the system and recommended larger duct work. I have to say I had my doubts but with $350 bills for a 1100 sqare foot home we needed to at least try. Well is was right, our highest bill from Aug. 2012 to May 2013 was $116.00. Average use hasdropped 12 KHW a day.

They did a great job with one exception. - They left without telling me there was no air filter behind the filter door installed. - The Marlin James' owners and employees understand how to do the job and how to treat their customers. I thought I had an issue and one of the owners arranged to do a premise visit and address any problems. TECO recently replaced equipment that blew out in different locations - one being in the back yard - which seems to have fixed any issues. Maybe I should do a review on TECO. The 1st outage was 10 hours and the second was 14 hours. I strongly recommend these guys and trust them to do the right thing.

Up until last year we had not known of Marlin James and when searching for a new A/C service provider, we found them on Angie's List. Hands down the best A/C company you can use. They are a bit pricey, however we found it worth the price when you own muliple rental properties and you don't have to worry about the quality of the work being completed, knowledge of the technicians and the hassle free ease of scheduling (and they show up on time and do what they state they will do!) We now use them every time.....

On early evening friday, Aug 24 2012, my A/C stopped working. I contacted Marlin James, whom I had used to replace a bad blade a couple of years back. I was pleased that a tech would be available that evening to check my A/C unit. When Mike arrived, He diagnosed the problem as a bad dual cap. I told him that I happened to have a new cap, which was given to me by the Marlin James tech that had replaced the blade previously. The cap came with the new blade, but the other tech did not install it because my other cap was still working fine at the time. Mike replaced the cap and only charged me for the service call. Mike was very professional, knowledgable, and courteous. He took the time to provide exceptional service, though it was late in the evening, and he had been on several service calls prior to mine. Another job well done by Marlin James personal
