Description of Work: They installed new windows throughout the house, installed new soffit on house and painted entire house. They did an excellent job and will definately call them again if I need any further repairs and/or upgrades to my home. They are a general contractor and can help with any type of outside job. It was such a pleasure to work with this company and their staff!

Description of Work: 2nd story siding and rebuilt outside entryway to front door. They were not the cheapest bid we received however we were far more confident that in the end it would be fair and well worth the cost. I am happy to say we were not disappointed. They kept us informed throughout the process and answered any questions we had along the way. Very courteous staff including admin and labor who made sure we were satisfied with a job well done. We would highly recommend them to others and use them again without hesitation.

I called John. He came out and gave an estimate. John returned when he said that he would and performed the work. The stucco texture that Jon applied matched the existing texture very well. John also repaired a small area where the stucco was missing under my eave at no extra cost.
Description of Work: I had a replacement window installed in my kitchen. I needed the exterior around the window stuccoed to match the texture on my home.

I had been eyeing a replacement of my wood paneling since I bought the house a few years ago. In 2010, I initially started the search process for a company to install something new. One gave me a quote on vinyl siding, and the other on Hardie board. I had to put off a decision for my wedding, and finally had the time to pick the project up again. I decided to search for a construction company that specialized in Hardie board, preferring the cement-fiber board over vinyl siding. My past experience with big-box stores installing a product was not favorable, so I decided to pay more for a trusted company to do the work. John Anderson Building Contractor was listed on the James Hardie webpage as the only "preferred contractor" in the area. After searching on BBB and some general reviews, I subscribed to this site to verify what I had found. It definitely seemed like John Anderson would be a reliable company. I received approval from my HoA before scheduling an appointment with John. I wanted to ensure there wouldn't be hiccups down the road if I didn't have that in hand. John came to the house on the scheduled day/time, and we talked through what I wanted. He took the appropriate measurements and wrote-up a proposal for the work. He came by again perhaps a week later to talk about what the proposal entailed. I liked the personal nature of this, because it allowed for an easy way to talk through any questions on the spot, without having to be on the phone or replying to countless emails. Once I contacted Heidi and told her we wanted to go through with it, she quickly emailed the appropriate documentation for me to sign and send back to her. We set up a date to begin the work, which was about 2 weeks later. When the date began, I had to quickly sign/notarize something for the county, stating work was beginning on that date. There was a minor miscommunication on the stucco repair, but a quick call to Heidi made sure it was taken care of. The foreman and crew were excellent and very polite to both me and my wife. Very friendly and willing to be conversational. The work site was kept clean and neat, which was great because I have two dogs that walk around in the yard. When it came time to put in the vents, John personally called me to talk through what I wanted to do - either a boxed in vent or something hidden. However, when they started to cut open the area, they realized it wouldn't be quite so simple - the placement of the structural support in the attic made either option not very feasible. So, they hand-crafted vents that would fit in between the rafters, out of the same Hardie material as the siding, while adding screens, etc to prevent bugs and critters from getting up there. It really looks better than I would have imagined, and the fact that they used the Hardie material to create it, rather than scrap wood, really says something about their attention to detail. After they completed all the work, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I am also happy I went with John's suggestion of horizontal panels vice vertical panels that were more similar to the wood paneling it replaced - it really does look much better with the horizontal panels! It is true what they say - you get what you pay for. If you have an important project coming up, you should definitely consider John Anderson Building Contractor.
Description of Work: - Removal of rotted T1-11 wood paneling - Installation of James Hardie siding on the two gable ends and chimney - Install vents - Fix two small stucco accents on corner of house

Given the scope and expense of what we wanted to achieve, we did not take lightly the task of finding an appropriate contractor. We spent a lot of time with three of them and came away trusting John and his wife Heidi (a critical member of this team!) the most because of the detail in their proposal, the transparent nature of their pricing structure, and of course the price itself. By no means was our search process meant to simply find a low bidder. We knew we'd be spending a LOT of time living this project and have two toddler children which of course present their own challenge. My wife and I both have some background in construction and thus have a good sense of when a contractor over-promises or under-performs in specifying the project. My wife is a tough customer and had a really good feeling about John and Heidi. The proposal we received supported her gut instinct. This is not the part where I say that the project was a dream process and we lived happily ever after. We have a 1942 house that is never short of surprises and challenges. This was an invasive project that involved stripping the house down to its studs, which meant a lot of mess and weatherproofing against summer storms. There was a clear and concerted effort to minimize disruption and to clean up at the end of each day. The crews know that John and Heidi don't put up with much! There were times when my wife needed to do some additional clean up, and our garage (project central) became unrecognizable after awhile, but if we said something, it was handled ASAP. We really braced ourselves for the portion where they had to come inside to tear out and replace windows (my wife is a neat freak, especially with two toddlers who will happily eat anything off the floor) but we were really impressed with how they would curtain off an area and clean up when done. While there were a few occasions where a work day was called off for weather that came and went early in the morning, or the like, there was a clear commitment to manning our project and completing it. The project ended up taking a couple months (longer than anyone anticipated) but it never became anything like a bad roommate or unwanted in-laws situation! All the guys were pleasant and respectful. You're never going to find someone more detail-oriented than John Anderson. The degree to which he checked the guys on their woodwork, etc. was comforting. He took it personally and seriously if something wasn't up to his standards the first time around. The punch list wasn't short, but it was truly a punch list (i.e. not a list of things they promised to do but did not come through on). In the end, our 1942 wood frame house was transformed into a beautiful structure that maintained its craftsman style but was now graced with a modern appearance and weatherproofing. Was it a fun process? No, of course not. But that is the nature of the beast. And when you have to go through something like that, you want a contractor with integrity and ability. John and Heidi (and their able crew) have an abundance of both.
Description of Work: Large scale project with a scope of work that included: (i) removal and replacement of all wood siding (with Hardie siding); (ii) removal and replacement of all windows with impact resistant, double hung windows and new interior/exterior window casing; (iii) replacement of certain studs, where necessary, soffiit/fascia, and other related repairs, as necessary; and (iv) new insulation.
