Florida State Fence

The job was scheduled two weeks in advance. I was contacted two days prior to the day the job was to be done. The 4 man crew arrived on time, and did an incredible job of removing and building the fence. Each 5/8" board was nailed on separately. The finished job is total quality... and beautiful. It's an excellent background in our backyard. The fence was build two months ago. I recently called our rep to tell him one of the board had cracked from top to bottom. They came out in 3 days and replaced the cracked board. I am 100% satisfied with the communication, work and customer service we received from Florida State Fence, and the project manager, Derek Dendler.

They did an excellent job, and I was very happy with them. I was very very happy with them. When I called for a quote they came out when they said they would. Gave me an accurate quote with options. Talked to me about what I could do. When it was time for install they were there when they said they would be. Called when they were coming. they had very good communication, and I am very happy with them. There was not a lot of interaction, the sales guy was helpful and pleasant and kept good communication. The work was excellent, I am trilled. None of the panels blew down during the hurricane and that was significant. I was very happy. From what I know with what they have done at my work place I feel like it was a good price. I would use them again in the future.

Florida State Fence installed our fence for our home in Mariposa. They offered a great value and entire process was very seamless! The workers completed over 350 linear feet with 3 gates in one day and left our yard nice and clean. I would highly recommend you give them a call if you are looking to install a fence for your own yard!

I spoke with Derek and we managed to get a date that worked with my goofy schedule. The fence is beautiful, the gates are sturdy; even the dogs haven't managed to open them (YAY!). I would definitely recommend and rehire this team anytime. Thank You!

They came in a timely manner, very professional.

Dealing with this company was by far one of the most frustrating experiences I have had as a home owner. Several of my fence posts were dislodged from hurricane Irma and while not completely fallen, they are no longer fully upright. I need a righting of the posts and concrete placed at the base, (something my Angie’s List highly rated original fence installer does not use, and I felt was now needed.) There is a retaining wall at the rear of my property, and my neighbor’s yard is inaccessible for a variety of reasons, which means the panels will have to be removed to access the posts from my yard. I called for three quotes, and Florida State Fence was prompt in returning calls and coming for an onsite estimate. Kimberly arrived promptly, calling ahead to say she was caught in traffic and would be late, which I appreciated. She had full access to my fence from my neighbor’s yard to the right, and, frankly, she could have used a portable ladder that others brought with them to view the other side of the rear fence, but she did not have one, or, if she did, did not use one for the estimate. I was told they have a minimum fee of $600 for any job, so know that upfront. I was given an estimate of $600 and the replacement of 5 posts. Despite a few recent negative reviews on Angie’s List, I did call Kimberly to accept the contract at the reduced fee of $500 in that I was impressed with Kimberly’s knowledge of the work needing to be done, and the much larger number of positive reviews on AL. We discussed in-depth the logistics of the work. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. My contract states, amongst other things, “Florida State Fence to call a dig-safe prior to start.” This was not done when they arrive to do the work. They also required a 50% down payment, something I normally never do on small jobs as it can reflect a company that is not solvent, and I have been burnt in the past by disreputable companies. In addition, when I inquired later, I was told there is no warranty whatsoever on fence repairs. Needless to say, this company expects a lot of trust from the customer, and as it turned out, not much accountability from the company. I received an email stating the date of the appointment but no time. When I called to get a time window I discovered the “crew” coming out were subcontractors, as are many, if not all, of the crews that do their work. Personally, I never use companies that subcontract their work because the chain of accountability is lost, as well as assurances of the insurance, licensure and background checking. I was given the name of the subcontractors and could find no online presence for them. Concerned, I spoke with Kimberly two days prior to the appointment and while she vouched for them, she was unable to tell me how long they were being used by Florida State Fence, stating, “A few years.” Therefore, I requested a copy of their license and insurance which she promised for the end of the workday. I never received it. I called the next day twice to the office and once to Kimberly’s cell phone and left messages requesting a call and the information, I got no response. Not having a start time for the next day, I awoke at 07:00 am and called the office at 07:40. I asked to speak with the owner and was told they were out of the country. I was given to Derek Dion who assured me the crew was competent, and thought they had worked for them, “for about two years.” When I asked if he knew where the subcontractor got his own crew, Derek stated he didn’t know, and acknowledged, “Good workers are hard to get,” when I explained that I was very familiar with this topic as my son-in-law is a contractor. The crew of two arrived wearing Florida State Fence T-shirts, and we did a walk-through of the yard. I asked if the calls had been made to the electric and cable companies and he did not know. I asked that he call and ascertain if this was done while I went inside to get the contract. We then walked the yard and he told me they would be digging around the (one side) of the rear posts with the panels still on, straighten them out and pouring dry concrete in. I expressed my doubts that would be sufficient and that I had clearly discussed the panels would be removed and the posts, then fully accessible, would be replaced and reinserted. (My contracts states: “Replace 5 4X4X8 posts add concrete.”) I again asked that he call the office. I was then told, “Kimberly had called the “dig line” but she’s not sure why they didn’t come.” (This was later refuted by Kimberly who stated she did not call them because, “it isn’t needed if we are just repairing a pre-existing fence.” When asked why she placed that in my contract, she stated, “We always put that in.”) After the crew called the office, I was told, “We have to take down the panels and replace the posts and we can’t do this today.” When I explained this was precisely the work Kimberly had known needed to be done and I had contracted for, the crew lead said, “They didn’t tell us that.” When I asked why they couldn’t do that today, he stated, “Well, they have to come out and mark the lines.” I expressed my frustration but made it clear it was with Florida State Fencing, not them, as there appeared to be a major communication problem with this company. I then called to the company and left a message asking to be called with clarification of what was going to happen henceforth, but at this point I no longer wished to interact with Kimberly as she had proven herself to be unreliable in my eyes. Unfortunately, I received a call from her and the conversation was decidedly unpleasant. As I mentioned, she defended not calling the dig line as it was unneeded, and when I asked if this were so, why couldn’t the crew do the work today, she stated, “Because YOU want them to be called.” When I told her they seemed to have a real communication issue, she stated she felt it was in everyone’s best interest to refund my down payment. Having wasted weeks of my time and their blatant incompetence, I informed her I agreed but I would be sure to write my less than flattering review on AL, she told me, “Oh, I’m sure you will; that’s what you have wanted to do all along.” No, what I wanted was for my fence to be repaired in a competent and professional manner as was promised and contracted for. These are the facts as I experienced them, you can decide for yourself if this sounds like a company you want to do business with.

The Rep, Jeremy, provided good pricing, professionalism, had everything in writing, and the proper licenses. They showed up on time and the fence looks great.

Confusing, hard to communicate with during installation, lack of customer service when a change was made. Company rep had surveyed property and two possible routes for laying out fence. Installers began work on one route, then, after digging several post holes, switched to another. When I requested they switch back to first route, they checked with rep who approved. Installers worked til they reached large tree roots. They said they didn't have enough parts and had forgotten to bring the gates. They again called rep who called me...long story short, I was told it was my cost and responsibility to have hole dug in root so fence post could be installed. He also said I would have to pay an additional $250 because installers would have to come back (even though they had to come back with forgotten parts anyway??!!). Mind you, this root was there when rep surveyed property and possible route of fence to be installed. He would not accept any responsibility for cost of drilling root, stating he had no way of knowing root was in the way (it's a huge root, sticking above ground and clearly visible to him). This issue brought a standstill to install which lasted over a month until I finally paid for someone else to install fence post and complete installation (installers had still not installed post caps and other work). Part of the delay was caused when the rep had a family emergency. Understandable, however, another rep that he said was briefed on the situation and would work with me during his absence, never had the courtesy to return my two phone calls and emails. I'm sure there will be the standard "we are not to blame" counter comment. Readers can form their own opinion after that. I am merely reporting my experience. It was not good, and I would not do business with this company again

Good. I had small issue with the gaps and they immediately came out to fix it.

Price was great. Derek (salesman) was awesome! Local Tampa business. Prompt on time installation (2 week lead time which was normal). Installation only took 4/5hrs and they got the fence very close to the ground to keep dogs from escaping. Great company!

I like how they did it and how wonderful it looks. My daughter just bought a new house and they are going to put up a fence. I am going to call them again. I contacted them and he came out and told me what I needed. I was blown away. I needed a fence because I have dogs who are allowed to run out in the yard. One escaped on me and I needed a fence bad.

Two weeks late to install, installed beyond the clearly marked property line, poor placement against neighboring fence, we had to call 4 times to get an invoice to pay, each time we called we asked to have an estimate to have the placement fixed, they always said they would stop by with an estimate but never showed up or called us. A week or two after we were paid, the neighbors tree fell and broke our fence. We called three more times trying to get someone to help us but we always are told someone will call and they never do. We won't be using this company for our second house fence or fixing the problems they created. Buyer beware! Most of our bad experiences were with Dereck Dinler, but even the ladies in the main office did not have any follow up and just defer everything over to Dereck. I never met the installers but clearly they don't seem to have the common sense to avoid some of these basic issues either.

The crew arrived at the agreed time. Began the work of tearing out old fence. Set new posts and began building a new fence. Cleaned up as they went. All work done in a few hours.

We went with another highly rated Angie's List company.

Florida State Fence did an amazing job on the install of our new fence. It looks perfect! Installers were very friendly and professional. They finished the job in a few hours and we couldn't be happier with the quality of their work. If you're in the need of a new fence call them now!! Highly recommend!!

If you have a small job, don't bother this company. Derek showed up 30 minutes early for the appt with no phone call. He seemed disinterested in my HOA requirements. He gave me a quote saying "I know this is high and you can get someone to do it for cheaper, but we are a big company and have a lot of overhead. That's where we're at" Honestly, I have never had anyone talk themselves out of new business. Why make the appt and waste everyone's time?

Florida State Fence installed our neighbor's fence. We liked what we saw. Hired them to install the same vinyl fencing around our home including installing three gates. The process went smoothly. They provided all the documentation to submit to the HOA for approval. The workers showed up on time and completed the installation with no issues. Extremely pleased with result. Received a lot of compliments on the fence. Finding a reliable contractor can be challenging, even when installing a fence. Would not hesitate to rehire or recommend Florida State Fence.
