Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Angie's List members. We would love to have an all A rating, but realize some people just won't be satisfied. You contacted us via Angieslist.com on 2/15/13 @ 4:28pm. Before 6pm that same day, I was on the phone with you to set up an appointment for a Wood Destroying Organism inspection. We agreed to the inspection date of 2/19/13 and price of $150 to provide you with a written report by a Florida Certified Operator and inspector. You informed me at the time of the appointment, you were aware of termite activity because you had seen the damaged wood on an addition you had put on your home. From our conversation, I was informed the company that put on your addition never pulled permits and were now out of business and you had no way to contact them regarding the work. On Monday, 2/25/13 when we called to confirm the appointment, you asked our office if we would credit back the $150 if you decided to have a termite treatment performed by us. We assured you we would put the $150 towards any treatment necessary. On 2/19/13, our inspector Danny Gibble, arrived at the scheduled time to start your inspection. Upon him arriving at the property, you questioned him about the $150 charge again. He assured you he would credit back the inspection fee to a treatment, should it be necessary. Danny inspected your entire home, including a very detailed inspection of your attic. During his inspection, Danny found a small area of Drywood Termite evidence and overwhelming Subterranean Termite evidence, which you already knew about. Danny recommended you do a Subterranean Termite treatment now and have your builder do the wood replacement for the Drywood Termites and see if the damage was more than what he could see visibly. He said he would come back, for free, when the builder was there to replace the wood. At that time, he would decide if a spot treatment or a tenting would be appropriate. At the time of the inspection, the area of Drywood Termite evidence was so small he thought the builder might take care of the issue by just replacing the wood. So, Danny did not give an estimate to have your home treated for Drywood Termites. Danny could have easily recommended you tent the home for a few thousand dollars, instead he felt the area was small enough that it wasn't a required treatment at this time. You did agree to have Chet's do the Subterranaean Termite treatment on 2/25/13. You signed the paperwork, which clearly states at the top of the agreement the type of termite we are treating, the warranty, terms of the agreement and the type of treatment being performed. Danny did not charge you $150 for the inspection. In fact, he even gave you a Fast Action discount of $50 for signing the paperwork on the day of the inspection. After you spoke with your builder, he recommended you have the home treated for Drywood Termites and Subterranean Termites now, not 1 now and 1 later. You called Danny to let him know what the builder said and asked Danny how much to treat for the Drywood Termites. Danny told you he didn't know the exact price because he didn't measure the property for Drywood Termites when he was there. He did give you some rough estimates for a spot treatment as well as a tent fumigation, but did tell you he would get the exact measurements for the exact price when he came back to do the Subterranean Termite treatment. On 2/21/13, you called our office to cancel the Subterranean Termite treatment claiming you thought BOTH treatments were covered for the Subterranean Termite price. Our office went over the paperwork with you and even offered to have a Manager come to your home to discuss the situation. You told the office you didn't want to talk to anyone else and had already hired another company to do the work. On 2/19/13, you signed an agreement to have your home treated for Subterranean Termites. No where on our Subterranean Termite agreement does it say anything about treating for Drywood Termites. You signed 1 agreement. Had you accepted a treatment for both Drywood Termites & Subterranean Termites, you would have had to sign 2 agreements, not just 1. In fact, on the agreement you did signed for Subterranean Termites, you signed in not 1, but 2 places that you understood and read the agreement. It is Florida Law and required by all termite & pest control companies to state on the front of the agreement, the type of termite being treated, the type of warranty being offered, the price and the terms of the agreement. Our agreements for both Drywood & Subterranean Termites are bold and they cover the money-back guarantees on both...and they are both very different. If you hire an roofer to put on a new roof and then decide you want to have gutters installed, that's 2 different services and would come with different prices and different warranties. I know because I just had that done. And, I had to sign 2 different agreements, not just 1. Same thing with termite work. 2 different treatments, 2 different warranties, 2 different agreements. There is nothing deceiving about our agreements, treatments or business practices. We are very upfront about costs and what we will do for the agreed upon fee. Not only did you sign an agreement to have the Subterranean Termite work done, we also left you with 1 Action Plan for Subterranean Termite treatment. Both pieces of paperwork clearly state the price, warranty & the termite being treated. Looking back at the series of events, I'm convinced you never wanted to pay for an inspection and never anticipated hiring Chet's Termite & Pest Management, Inc to do any work at your home. There is just no other explanation other than you just didn't want to pay us for our time. Maybe you found a cheaper company to do the termite work. If that's the case, no problem. We've never claimed to be the cheapest. We want referral business and we want to stay in business, unlike the company you hired to put on your addition. We haven't stayed in business for 33 years doing bait and switch tactics, which you accuse of us doing in your statement. Whatever the real reason you cancelled the treatment, in the end, it's for the best for both of us. As I see it, you still owe us $150 for the inspection you originally agreed to and we will be sending a bill for the 2 hours+ of our time you have wasted. I hope the awesome Angie's List members will see through your negative comments and know there is no way we deserve an F rating regarding this situation. We do wish you well and hope the company you hired to do the termite work for you will be in business the next time you need them.
