Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in Sarasota is a rip off outfit. I purchased a garbage disposal at home depot and called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and asked if they could install the disposal. They said no problem but there would be a $59 service fee. I said ok come over to my home and install the disposal. When the Technician came he told me the installation was $275.00. since he was already at my home I told him to go ahead and I'd talk to his boss later about the charge. He spent 20 minutes installing the disposal and didn't even hook up the power to it. His explanation was "Oh were plumbers....we don't do electrical work" (Even though the office said he could completely install the disposal). Oh $275.00 for 20 minutes is over $800.00 an hour (what a crock). He spent the next 17 minutes trying to sell me air conditioning services and water purification services. I have called their office every day for a week to speak to a manager and each time they tell me someone will call you back. I haven't heard a thing. Stay away from these people.......far far away. The first thing that happened was that I had icicles off my house because the valve was defective that they installed and it was running water out of it. When it froze that night, it created monster icicles. The solar was messed up and it's not been saving me any money and they won't come out and fix it. They put the new solar tank in where you can't drain it. When they re-plumbed my house, they also had their installers decide to put the glue half way around the connector. It flooded my floor and destroyed my carpet and my carpet needs replaced. They had to buy me a new water bed because the old water bed collapsed from the water, and now they won't talk to me. I'm blacklisted. Basically, when my water tank fills up with soot, because I can't drain it out, I'll have to replace it. I would never recommend them; I would tell people to stay away from them; overpriced, crap quality, and no warranty.

It was just ridiculous. I think they were conning me. I think they were talking advantage of an old lady. Their pricing was way out of line. They were unprofessional. They did the job but it took them a long time that it would not of taken someone else to do.

I called him at 2:00 in the afternoon. By the time he got here it was 6:00 which I thought was pretty good considering the notice. He replaced three valves and he put the new style rod along with it. He used the new type valves. They take cae of business.

They were particularly great the first time I used them. I will absolutely use them again.

Absolutely terrible. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing (BFP) after receiving a $50 coupon in the mail. I contacted them for an estimate. BFP stated they do not give estimates (or even ballpark numbers) until a plumber had visited the site and determined the extent of the work required. I agreed to this. When the BPF rep arrived, he was able to assess the work in about 5 minutes. I then asked him to describe the choices of replacement toilets. He recommended what he stated was their most popular model, which was $750 (or thereabouts) plus installation. I told him that was a pretty high price and I was looking for something less expensive. After a brief discussion, he stated his least expensive model was $650 (or thereabouts) plus installation. As this was over twice as much as other estimates, I thanked him for his time and asked him to leave. He stated I owed him $50 for the service call. I showed him the coupon, and he pointed out that it did, in fact, say "with repair". I told him that since no work was done and his prices were outrageous, I would not pay for the service call. He then stated that he would be forced to call the police. When asked what for, he said "breech of contract". I told him to call whomever he wished. It seems to me that BFP is predatory in that (1) they bait you with a coupon, (2) refuse to give an estimate without a service call, (3) either stick you with terribly over-priced work or try their best to make you cough up $50 for their trouble.

I called Ben Franklin at noon on Saturday, and scheduled me for service first thing Sunday morning, but put me on a list if a repairman was available later on Saturday. At 4pm on Saturday I received a call that a repairman (Michael) could come. He arrived in ten minutes. Took a look at the water heater, and after several attempts was able to get the pilot light on. He let it run for about 15 minutes, and then turned it off and on a couple of more times to ensure that it was working properly. Michael was courteous and very informative. We discussed draining the water heater, and the possibility of a water softener. I could not have been more pleased with his work.

With Benjamin Franklin, it has been very hit-or-miss depending on which plumber you get. The first one I got was fantastic. He cleared the drain, and proceeded to help me identify how the drain system was designed, which pipes were PVC versus cast iron, and what problems I may have in the future. He was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and helpful, and didn't charge me a fortune. After that, it went downhill. I had another drain cleaning, and it was fine. Then, I had a third drain cleaning, and this plumber convinced me that an Aqua Brite hydro-jet process would solve the recurring problems. It was expensive, but he said it comes with the "Tri-5" warranty, which is 5 years 5 months 5 days. Within two months, it clogged again. A plumber came and said "the hydro-jet wasn't done right, we need to come back tomorrow and get it done". I thought this was a good sign... then a different plumber came the next day and said "oh no, it was done right, the clog is because your kids flushed too many things at once". Which means that they didn't re-do the hydro-jet, and the clearing wasn't under warranty because it was due to something that was flushed. So I begrudgingly paid for the clearing. About 18 months later, it totally clogged again. When I called their office, they said they had no record of a warranty. Fortunately, I had a copy of my receipt. I told them the date and invoice number, but they said they still have no record. But when the plumber came, he read my receipt and called in and they agreed to cover it under warranty. They still charged me a service charge and tried to explain it away. I didn't argue. They also tried to sign me up for a monthly plan, as well as sell me some other stuff. Basically, I paid almost $2,000 for a process that doesn't seem to have worked, and they don't want to honor the warranty or service it for free, and then they want to sell me other stuff. I think I'd just rather deal with someone else.

We needed an outdoor water line fixed since we were not home. The tenant already had the line dug out for him so all he had to do was splice the pipe. The tenant said that took him 15 minutes. Then he stood there for 20-30 minutes while it dried. His bill was $430!!! Management refused to call us back to talk about the charge.

They did a great job and completed the work quickly, but they charged a very high price for their services.

I called on 09/08 to make an appointment to use the $76 coupon that the company send out in the mail. I asked if the $76 included a trip charge and was told it would. I also asked for an estimate to install a sink faucet and was told the Plummer would give on site. I was told the appointment was a no time specific. I explained I have to go to work at 5pm, the rep said the work is done between 8am and 5pm and he would call an hour before. I waited all day and called the company two times the day of the appointment trying to get a ballpark of when the Plummer would be put. The first time I called they would not say and the second time I was told I was next after I explained I had to go to work but my wife would be home. After my wife called the company two more times and not getting any answers the Plummer called at 9pm and said he is an hour away, my wife agreed to let him come and do the work., The Plummer Gary G. Snaked the drain two times ($76), replaced the faucet and down tube($276) service fee of $49 and enviro charge if $12 for a total of $413. When Gary left at midnight, the sink was draining. My wife took a shower and turned on the water to brush her teeth and the sink filled with water. My wife called Gary on his cell phone number he gave her and he told her to call in there company in the morning. I called on 09/10 and asked for a timed appointment. The rep stated someone would call with a time the Plummer would be out. I also asked for a manager to call me about the bill as I was charge $49 service charge that I was told was included. I did not receive a call about the appointment or receive a call from a manager. At 8am Gary showed up with no call pryor to his arrival. He worked on the drain using the same pistol snake that he used the night before and was unable to clear the drain. Gary stated the stack needed to be snaked to clear the drain, however the stack is on the second story and he can not go on on the second story roof. He said he would go up there if I paid another 350.00 today, I refused. After not being able to clear the drain he went to his truck and came back with an estimate of $2,056 to install s L5 access in a closet behind the sink, I refused that offer as well. I called the company again on 09/11 and asked to speak to a manager and was told again I would receive a call back. As of 09/21 I still have not received. A call back from anyone at Benjamin Franklin Plumming. There slogan is "if there is a delay it's you we pay" I guess it is easy not to delay with no time appointment and not calling people back!

Work was OK, Pricing was excessive. Would not accept a Check or Checkcard as Payment.

They were punctual and professional. We had a coupon and they honored it. We were very satisfied with the service.

It is difficult to even get anywhere near an estimate on plumbing services by calling, and this was the first company that I was able to reach that was willing to tell me that the cost of service would be $49.00 plus the estimate. Since we are unfamiliar with the cost of plumbing, it was difficult to adequately assess the final fee. The work was done in a timely manner, and the service provided was reasonable. The plumbers were professional and pleasant, particularly with regard to the work performed, , but the supervisor wanted to talk us into changing more than we actually needed at this time, stating he'd give us '15% off' the total bill. We realize that 'an ounce of prevention' (Ben Franklin?) may be worth the next 'fix', but we do not appreciate the attempt to sell us more than we need at this time. They also wanted to 'sell' us 'plumbing insurance, and that was also unnecessary.

My experience with them did not turn out so well. It is not so much the technician’s mistake, but it was very difficult for me to contact or receive communication from anyone at the office when I got back. I actually had to call their franchise headquarters and it was not a pleasant experience. I would not use them again in the future.

I use this company for all of my plumbing repairs and installations. They are always on time and very courteous.

Everything was great until the whole house filter was installed. The plumber found that the old water softener had a leak and was no longer useable. Unfortunately I had to buy another which made the cost rise, but the service and assistance from the plumber was excellent.

My experience was fabulous. They were extremely helpful and even showed me some tips and tricks around my home. They price was fair and I am statisfied with their work.

The Plumber was friendly and helpful in showing us other issues that came up during the job. He suggested that we replace the faucets, so I went to Lowe's to purchase new faucets while he was working. When I came back, he told me that I bought the wrong kind (wrong size spread), so my husband went back and exchanged them for the correct size. He should have told me what size spread I needed before I went to buy the faucets. After the plumber finished the job and left, we discovered that one of the sinks was leaking in the cabinet. We called them to schedule another appointment, and they plan to come out on Wednesday.

I called them to complain because the price was very out of line and they would not return my calls. They were thieves with the price that they quoted as another service provider did the work for less than half of the price they quoted. The manager would not call back.

He was vey nice. A very kind person.
