Based on feedback I'd gotten about Floridigenous Landscaping I'd pretty much already decided I was going to have them do the work I wanted so I didn't get any other quotes. Peter came out and offered suggestions as to what he would recommend and it sounded like it would be beautiful once it was completed. He warned the lighting was expensive but that he used professional products and not Home Depot merchandise. Peter was professional and took a lot of time looking over the property before offering suggestions as to what he thought would accomplish what I was looking for. I picked what sounded best to me for each area they would be working and we both agreed on how the lighting should be set up. They arrived on the date and time they said they would and began working right away. One crew on the landscaping and another crew on the lighting. A break down of the cost of $4600.00 was approx $1500 for the landscaping, approx. $200 for river rock, $2900 for the lighting (again there was a lot of lighting involved), we spotted a queen palm, a roebelinii palm, an oak tree, a ligustrum, a bird of paradise plant and each of the house columns, plus path lighting leading up to the house. We were very pleased with the results. The new plants added color that we didn't have before and the lighting made a huge difference in the appearance of the home. I've had a drainage problem between mine and a neighbors home so Floridigenous is working up and estimate for me to correct the run off (rather non-run off) for my neighbor and I to review. I would recommend Floridigenous Landscaping to anyone. I just wish they would change their name to something I could pronounce.

The entire process went very smoothly. Even though it was the hottest month of the year, his workers put in a full hard day each of the three days that it took them to complete the job. The project turned out beautifully, including the installation of a palm so large that it took a crane to put it into the ground. While I did not mean to take a year to supply a review, I did want to wait a few months just to see how the plants did in our yard. Everything did quite well, but for one thing. I really feel that Peter planted everything too close together so that now some of the taller plants overshadow the ones that are closer to the ground to the point where they are not at all visible. We probably should have had about 15% fewer plants and made the bill lower. We are going to have to remove two or three of the different varieties he planted as they have just gotten too big. I feel that he should have been more mindful of each plants growth potential so that we would not have to do this. This is the only reason why I gave him a "C" in any of the categories as he was otherwise very professional and helpful!!!

After looking over the reviews and ratings on Angie's list decided to purchase the Big Deal to have them give me an estimate. Peter responded immediately and within 2 weeks submitted a plan for the yard. After reviewing I asked if he'd come out and see some concerned areas in our lawn that I'd like him to add to the plan - he did come back out, offered suggestions that sounded good and returned a new revised plan to incorporate the changes which we agreed upon. It took awhile to get the landscaping started due to the extremely heavy rains we've experienced this summer - but once they started, the job moved quickly. It took two days for prep and plantings. The transformation is amazing. I know that the new landscaping has added much to the value of our home. Wish I had done this sooner. We are very pleased. See before - and after photos. include

Floridigenous Landscape just created the most beautiful tropical paradise in both our front and back yards. Thank you Peter Klinkenberg (owner), Aaron, Jesse, Danny, George and all the rest for your great talents and hard work. It started with an Angie's List promotion for a landscape design. Peter Klinkenberg came to see what we currently had (not much to be honest), and excelled at conjuring up a custom design for our space(s), and really created a work of art that was beautiful, interesting, sustainable, and maintainable. (Wow!) He kept and worked with the best features/aspects of our old yard, and completely removed the rest while recreating a fantastic new design. Peter then helped me coordinate all phases of the project: which involved the removal of our old shrubs and falling-down old wooden fence by Floridigenous, then installation of a new white vinyl fence by Fence Outlet (great job by that company, too!), then the creation of our new tropical oasis by him and his talented crew, complete with re-configuring (totally revamping!) our irrigation system to meet the needs of our new little shangri la. Finally, he came over one evening and tweaked the low-voltage LED lighting system to show everything off to its best advantage - - a real pro at subtle highlighting to make it all magical at night. (Wow - again!!) The lights are very durable and high quality, with a 20 year life. Can't wait to hang out in our new favorite room/environment - - like our own little private park or refuge. Thanks, Peter for your vast knowledge of landscaping and Florida-appropriate plants, and your company's skill and expertise - - it's gorgeous, and all natural! And, even better... to be enjoyed for years to come. He has also been great with a few follow-up matters, and makes it clear that he's there to help as needed going forward. Everything has gotten established in the past month, and just keeps growing and getting better. A living landscape canvas that my wife and I can enjoy, as well as tinker with and have some fun with it.
Description of Work: Floridigenous Landscape did a complete design and re-work of both our front and back yards, including re-working our irrigation system to meet the needs of the new design. We put in many varieties of small, medium and large plants/palms. Includes many Florida-friendly plant species, as well as new sod, Areca palms, Fish Tail palms, Fox Tail palms, Hibiscus trees, etc., etc. in a beautiful design with mini pine bark nugget mulch and crushed shells in our side yards. They pretty much did everything to transform our landscaping from blah to spectacular.

After reaching out to a few landscape companies, I felt that Floridigenous offered a fair price and a "one stop shop" experience. Peter understood my schedule and exhibited great flexibility in making sure that my project was completed before the deadline. I was pleased with Peter's responsiveness and regular communication; he was quick to return calls and e-mails. Overall, the project could not have gone more smoothly. The irrigation system is functioning without any issue, the sod looks great, and there weren't any real setbacks. I'm very pleased with the service I received and would recommend Floridigenous to anyone.

Outstanding in every respect! When you have this many positive reviews on Angie's List (as Floridigenous does), there's good reason to take notice. Peter is professional, knowledgeable, genuinely concerned about your needs and has a great team; so the work will be done quickly with Peter's direct participation and supervision. Beyond that, the work exceeded my expectations and speaks for its self. My little piece of paradise was completed punctually and as promised. There will be "outliers" in every scientific study that reviews statistical data, but that's why the grades on Angie's List are so meaningful. You can see how many people give each grade. More weight to more reviews. Believe what you see about Floridigenous.

It was back in November 2014 when we purchased a Big Deal for a landscape consult. Peter was quick to respond and came out and gave us an estimate to finish putting in a drain (that someone else started and never finished) and to add plants to our front yard that had died. With the holidays and a few other delays we didn't get back to Peter until February 2015. He came out and re-evaluated what needed to be done and we agreed that they would do the work. Which was to plant 130 plants in the front yard, complete the drain in the back and to re-level the ground in that area for better drainage. We have artificial turf in our backyard that was in the area of the drain. Peter said he had never worked with artificial turf but he assured me that they were capable of pulling the turf up, re-leveling the dips and valleys and re-lay the turf. There is a small paver walkway that also needed to be disturbed having the drain installed. Peter "warned" us that they would do their best to put it back as they found it, but it wouldn't be perfect. Peter told me it would be a couple of weeks before they could get to us and that the job would only take one day. I told him no problem just let me know when and it was good. On the 19th of February Peter emailed me to let me know that the crew would be at our home sometime in the morning of the 19th. When the crew arrived I introduced myself and showed them where the drain was in our backyard. They did not state any concerns with the work that needed to be done and set to work immediately. It took them all day and the re-laying of the turf gave them a bit of a hard time. It was just before dark when they finished and left. They did not tell us they were done, nor that they were leaving, they were just gone. I looked at the drain in the backyard and it was nice to see that we no longer had a 15ft. long hole in our backyard. I wrote an e-mail to Peter and told him it looked great and I was so pleased not to have a hole in the backyard. Peter kept telling us that water was the most important thing to keep the plants growing so I watered twice a day by hand, that way I was sure they were getting water and not relying in the sprinkler system, on the 24th we decided to try out the sprinkler system to water the plants. Under the paver walkway there was a break in the sprinkler lines. On the 25th I e-mailed Peter that we needed to meet about the sprinkler break and the way that the turf and pavers had been re-layed as it wasn't safe. I was unable to meet him the morning of the 26th as I was having a root canal. He sent a guy out anyway to redo the pavers and repair the sprinklers. When I met with Peter on the 27th, I questioned him about the height that some of the plants were planted, his comment was that there were roots that needed air and they were fine. By that time 3 had already started dying and he agreed to replace those, at that same time he found that a couple of the plants were still in their pots and were just sitting in the ground not planted at all. While he and I were discussing the pavers he kept saying I told your husband it wouldn't be perfect, well these pavers were not level and was a tripping danger . He really didn't want to send anyone out to redo it. It was never going to be perfect. He told me he had been sick and that is why he had not been by to check the job. I had not paid them as I was not happy with their lack of professionalism and wanted my concerns addressed. Peter said he wanted payment that day ($1800.00) as he had to finance this job and almost didn't have money to cover payroll. This was after he tells me he had $15000.00 in unpaid work done and he had spent the weekend in Las Vegas with his wife and another couple. He also saw that I had bought more of my own plants for the section where his crew just dumped all the dirt while digging and buried my plants under mounds of dirt. Peter offered to bring about 10 more plants for that area when they were coming to replace the dead ones in the front. On March 4th I emailed Peter that the guy who came to redo the pavers knew nothing about the extra plants. His response was he had the plants and his supervisor was out ill and he was behind. Sometime within the next two weeks he came and replace a couple in the front and added three to the back where the drain went. He never told us he was coming or that he had been to our house. Never once did they check that our sprinklers were working after they did work. I continued to water by hand. We bought another Big Deal from Angies List to have our sprinklers checked. What was found was that an entire section was not working. After telling them about the drain work done, the pavers were removed and a five foot section of the turf was removed and that section of drain area was dug up. Instead of fixing the leak they had caused Floridigenous Landscaping just capped that pipe off and removed a section of the sprinkler line. This cost us an additional $400.00 to have this repaired. I have every e-mail that was sent to Peter Klinkenberg for backup. I have not informed him of the additional cost because of sprinklers. I am going to file a complaint with Angies List and perhaps the BBB. Response to Peter, 5/1/15 1) I apologize for getting Mardi Grais, in New Orleans mixed up with Las Vegas. Location didn't matter when inserted into our conversation that day. 2) The additional sprinkler work. I purchased a tune-up to make sure I was getting the coverage, etc to make sure that the new plantings would be successful. I purchased this AFTER you were made aware of the leak and came out to "fix it" Your crew never once manually checked the sprinkler system. I would have expected when a repair or modification was made that a sprinkler check would have been done. The valve box was right there near the drain. The crew didn't do a check the day the work was done nor the day they came back to fix the leak , when he actually capped the line. How was I to know that he capped the line? 3) Pavers - they may not be "perfect" but the sprinkler crew laid relayed them much more acceptably than your company left them. 4) Replacement Plants - you may have lowered the planting on the replacement plants but that didn't help the others that were originally planted too high. I am attaching photos and will email you a copy of the receipt for the work done on the sprinklers. I stand by my review Mr. Klinkenberg. I don't like to give an F review anymore than I like receiving F service

Response from Floridigenous Landscape Inc
Hello [member name removed], I am sorry to hear of you dissatisfaction with the job performed. I do want to clarify a few things though. I am most disturbed by the fact that you had additional irrigation work done. I will be happy to cover this cost if you can provide me the receipt. I will always assume responsibility for such a problem if I am made aware, preferably before you call someone else. Please don't hesitate to contact me or any future contractor you work with if there is a problem like this - at least give us the opportunity to address it. There are a few other points to keep in mind. When problems were pointed out, we did respond to each one (repaired the broken line, replaced 10 plants, and leveled the pavers as best we could). While aspects of the job weren't perfect, we did replace plants as necessary and we did work on the pavers again. We were able to lower them by about 1/10 of an inch. I want to stress that the existing pavers were laid on bare dirt with roots underneath, not base, and were not perfectly smooth to begin with, so perfection is not possible. I did tell your husband that several times during the initial consultation, and he said he understood that. Not sure where that was lost in translation I'm not sure why there is a comment about Las Vegas. I've never been there. We were chatting and I mentioned a recent trip to New Orleans with my wife to see family. There are several long narratives in the review that have inaccuracies and aren’t relevant. We bill jobs when they are substantially complete. Actually, we usually collect deposits before starting (standard in the industry), which we did not receive from you. Never the less, please contact me and let me know if there are any remaining items, or if you want me to reimburse you for sprinkler work. I have a long history of great reviews on Angie's List, so not sure why a few small problems to a successful drain installation, and 10 dead plants out of 130 plants warrants such a low grade. Frustration with small things can sometimes cloud the overall picture. At the end of the day, please bear in mind that when we arrived on the site there was a large empty drain ditch left from another contactor that bailed on you, and at completion, you had a working drain, reset fake grass and lots of new plants. A few minor problems on a complex job, absolutely. Response to each one, yes. That may mean I take a hit on overall grade, but ‘F suggests total failure’. I do not think that’s really warranted. - Peter Klinkenberg

Contacted Peter for an estimate to install landscape lighting. We came out listened to what we wanted to do and made recommendations based on the property layout . He showed us different lighting options and explained the pros and cons of each .That made the selection process easier. The installation by Peter and his team went smoothly with Peter spending extra time to make sure the lights were positioned for the best results. He went over the equipment in detail ( transformer, lights, wiring, wiring connections ) and warranty. What a difference the lighting makes for the property. We are very pleased with Peter and his team.

Peter was a very professional and genuine guy. He was very patient to answer any questions and very responsive/accessible via calls/emails. He even offered multiple meetings to go over any follow-up questions. We even did a nursery trip with him that was very helpful. You could tell he had a very solid understanding and deep expertise in landscaping with the ability to suggest good solutions to landscaping needs. He provided a great layout we really liked so it was a very difficult decision, but we ended up not using his company to implement. As with any contractor, trust is essential and I know I could have trusted his company with the job.

I really can't say enough good things about Peter Klinkenberg and his team. From start to finish, this company provided excellent service in all aspects. My property had been neglected for years, and Peter transformed it into what several people have described as a park. He first provided a detailed and well-thought-out design and estimate. Once I had agreed to move forward, his team quickly took my yard down to bare soil. They removed a number of large root systems (and even a small tree!) then graded the soil level. Peter even offered to meet me at the nursery he uses so he could go over the plants he had chosen in case I wanted to make any tweaks. I took him up on this and it was great. We selected some of the actual plants at that time. Then over a matter of days, the magic began. His team of employees installed a beautiful new landscape that has already drawn compliments. His crew is composed of very polite, personable young men who showed up on time, worked hard, and always left things neat and tidy. They were a pleasure to have around. Peter was EXTREMELY responsive to any request I had, large or small, and could not have been easier to work with. He is very knowledgeable about both plants and landscaping. I can't recommend him highly enough. If you want a beautiful landscape done right with no headaches, Floridigenous is your company.

Peter and his crew are very professional, courteous, and take the time to listen to the customer. Peter listened to our needs and designed a new drainage system to solve flooding issues in our backyard. He designed beautiful, colorful landscaping for our bare, colorless yard, and the crew did a great job planting them. All the plants are very healthy looking and settling in well. They worked their schedule around ours, and got the job done promptly. Our neighbors even complemented them on how professional and efficient the crew was in getting work done. We are very happy and pleased with our results.
