Good luck getting a call back. I tried getting an estimate. 3 weeks ago I left a messages on the website and got confirmation back someone would be in touch with me soon. 2 weeks ago I left another. This week I have called Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and left voice mails. Today is Thursday and still no call back.

I contacted the company through the messaging here on Angie's List asking for a quote. No response in a week.

I had an appointment for an estimate on approx. 200' of fencing installed on a beach property. Spoke with the scheduler, who was very nice, and asked to speak with the person that would do the install. I was told that he won't speak with anyone on the phone. She refused to to connect me to him. I found this extrodinarially strange. They seem to have good reviews here but if they're not willing to speak with a customer I have my doubts on their customer service overall. YMMV.

They provided a very competetive estimate and when they turned up to install the fence, there were a couple of issues with placing the poles due to some old concrete being in the way. They worked with us (and the neiighbour) to find a solution. They were very accomodating and did a great job. Excellent and professional service. Highly recommended.

They always showed up when they said they would, from the estimate, to the revisions, and throughout the job. It's a family run company that understands good customer service, cares about quality, and does professional quality work. We get compliments on the fence almost daily. It looks terrific and we couldn't be happier with everything about the job, from A to Z. We would use them again and are very happy to give them the highest of ratings on Angie's List. We got three quotes and they were the most thorough. They are a family business. They use high quality materials and methods. I would highly recommend them.

Showed up when promised and completed the job

We had three estimates, and this was the highest. We chose another company to do the job.

I waited 6 weeks from the date the deposit was sent to have the fence installed. The crew arrived at 4 p.m. in the afternoon on Thursday November 6, 2014 because another job was more important than mine. They were supposed to be there in the morning and finish on Friday November 7, 2014. I specifically told them I would have to be at home while the fence was installed. This is my first big compromise. The crew was nice and eager to do as I explained. On Friday the owner Eric arrived in a bad mood and began ranting, yelling, and telling me I was not being cooperative because I would not let him cut the bottom of the fence to make it level. He failed to put the proper posts in the ground and now it is my fault? I was very specific when Eric quoted the estimate, prior to the deposit that I did NOT want the new fence to be in the ground and although the backyard sloped I wanted the entire fence to be level. That of course meant a gap in the backyard. Eric was infuriated claiming he has been in the business for 20 years and I was the most uncooperative person he has met. He refused to listen to any reason and refused to consider doing the fence another way, like, using 10' posts instead. He then told me he would not do the job and only charge me for removing the existing fence and hauling it away. Most of the posts were in the ground, he removed them and in his haste he covered up the holes from the posts AND 8 large hole that my son and I dug to remove tree roots that had nothing to do with the posts. Second big compromise. He claimed it was for insurance purposes and also he was not going to allow someone else to come in and put up a fence where they dug holes. Eric was paid to remove the existing fence and haul it away BUT FAIL:ED to complete that job. There is a post from the old fence still attached to the house and part of the chain link attached to the large tree in the backyard along with the metal pole. I found Eric to be most argumentative, vindictive, angry, disrespectful, vengeful person to do any kind of business with. I had to take off work on Friday because he failed to be on time on Thursday. He claimed that was my problem wanting to be there when they installed the fence. Now, not only am I without a fence for another month, so are my neighbors who own a dog as well. I planned this project so I would not be without a fence for too long because I have 2 small dogs and feel safer with a privacy fence. He has put all of us in an awful situation. I would NOT recommend A-1 Fence to anyone unless you enjoy being abused and of course have an absolutely perfect yard. Eric has lost perspective, this is my house, my money and my way. Since Eric walked off the job I have gotten estimates from 1/2 dozen other fence companies including Lowes and Home Depot. Everyone stated an amount 3x LESS than Eric for removal and hauling away the existing fence. His charge of $470 was excessive. Yet another reason to re-think this A rating on Angies list. Response March 13, 2015 Although A-1 Fence is boasting about their "A" rating it does not mean their are not complaints. I am responding because Eric is making false statements such as "I am going to get my gun and make him dance", which is ridiculous and NEVER HAPPENED. I am amazed he would go this far to discredit, slander me, blatantly lie, to try to make himself look good. Secondly, his crew approached me about doing the fence job on the side. I DID NOT approach them. I told them NO because I need to have a licensed & insured contractor to do the work on my property. So, again, I was NOT doing anything inappropriate as Eric claims. Also, while Eric was told several times not to come onto my property unless I was at home he refused to respect me. After he packed up and left the job he returned to fill in the holes where the posts had been removed. My son and I had also dug huge holes to remove tree roots, which were obvious and pointed out to Eric. Eric decided to fill those in as well. So, all those hours of digging gone because Eric has a mean temper. Just blatantly vindictive. Because he had to return to complete a few things I came home to find him already on my property. Once again refused to respect my wishes and NOT come onto my property unless I was there. Is this someone you would want to do work on your property?

I was very impressed that Eric was not only the installer on the job but also the president and owner of the company. I interviewed several fence installers but I was most impressed with Eric because of his positive and personable nature and hand's on approach. I also found it admirable that Eric brought his son out with him and worked alongside him and coached him along in the process. It is nice to witness a family business in action because it brings a level of quality that you don't see with big companies. The fence looks great and his dedication to quality installation shows. The scheduling was reasonable and not so far out that I could plan accordingly. Linda was great at keeping me posted on the scheduling status. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend A-1 Fence.

It went very well. Job was completed in one day with no hassles and the work was excellent.

Provided a timely and accurate estimate. Eric, the owner, stated he was about 3-4 weeks out and would be in contact. Was contacted approximately 3 weeks later to schedule install. Eric and his worker were punctual and hard working. They worked straight through for approximately 8 hours digging each post by hand and installing the fence. This was no easy task as I live in an area of limestone pits. All posts were buried approximate 3' and cemented. All work was completed in one day and the results are beautiful. The fence has been installed now for 3 months and there have been no issues. I highly recommend A-1 fence and would use them again.

Apparently, service 1st is not important to this company. First scheduled appointment for fence estimate, with tech was a ?no show? and appointment rescheduled. We waited another week for Second rescheduled appointment between10:00 am - 10:30am with tech. Company called at 10:19 am and canceled another appointment. My husband left his job for both appointments to come home and wait. This company had no consideration for our time that was wasted.

Eric arrived promptly for our appointment to quote the job. He carefully listened to what i wanted and worked out a plan to make it happen. We then scheduled the job for several weeks later as they were very busy. Eric called me a few days later and said they could work me in early if that was ok and of course it was! He and his partner arrived at the agreed upon day and time and immediately started working. The two of them work very, very well together. The job was completed on time and a little under the quoted price (a nice surprise)! I am very pleased with the result and have received many compliments on the fence.

A-1 came in to install a 90 foot long and four foot tall fence. Three people came in to take care of it. They did what they said they would do, they were right on time. No problems whatsoever. You will get your moneys worth. I like their work. They did it for the right at cost at the right time and did it relavtively quickly. Took care of it within two weeks of the estimate.

What a wonderful experience my husband and I had working with A-1 Fence on new fencing at our home. The owner, Eric Hughes, presented us with a fair and reasonable proposal on a custom, rough sawn, cypress fence. Our original cypress fencing had lasted 25 years and we wanted to use the same materials again. Out of the 3 proposals I obtained from Angie's List companies A-1 Fence was the only company able and willing to supply the rough sawn cypress material and undertake this customized project. Eric and his assistant, Chuck, installed the fence yesterday and it looks even better than I had hoped. Eric had arranged to have the cypress boards delivered from a local saw mill and he and Chuck actually constructed the fence on site. They were meticulous in their work through each step of the process. They used plumb lines and levels to insure that the fence was on target in every way. They put in one very, very long day and stopped only briefly for a quick lunch. When they left our house after 7:00 on a Friday evening our fence was completed and our grounds were left in immaculate condition. The fence looks beautiful. It is seldom that we are fortunate enough to have projects done at our home by people who are this conscientious and experienced. I would use A-1 Fence again in the future and I highly recommend them to any Angie's List member who wants quality work done by a reliable and responsible company.

The team was incredibly prompt and responsive from the initial call through installation. They provided suggestions to improve the original job, and we ended up with a nicer result than our original design. The price was in alignment with other competitor quotes. We've had it for two months, and it is wearing incredibly well.

Eric arrived on the day work was to begin. His wife called ahead to let me know they were on there way. Job went terrific. took one day longer but we had a lot of fence installed. The fence Is absolutely beautiful! No complaints. Great price, great product, great work!

he used new materials to repair and complete our fence and now our grand dog will not be able to get out when he comes to visit. A-1 was great to work with and we thank them!!!

Our fencing fell down. My husband was looking for a company to come give us a quote. Since I had joined Angie's list and had excellent experiences with the companies we have used for Angie's list I looked up local fencing companies. A-1 Fence Inc. responded in a timely fashion. The women who came out was professional and appeared to know her business. As were going out of town the next day, she had said we would have a quote to us by that evening. She came out February 6, 2014 and to date February 17, 2014, we still do not have a quote. My husband went into the company website to let them know they had not responded. They emailed him back saying they would investigate. We would have preferred them to get back to us and say the job isn't big enough or we won't have time until ... Etc. Thus my low rating.

Eric is very professional. He encountered and old buried concrete barrier that ran along the property line and had to jack-hammer about 6 or 7 fence post holes, at no extra charge. He did the job in 3 days, would have been 2, but his supplier gave him the wrong size gate. I would highly recommend A-1 fence. His estimate was also less than competitors and he uswed higher quality fencing.

This is the first fence I have ever put up, experience was good, Eric came and gave me an estimate and then secured the permit from the city. No problems, I held the job up a week or so because I needed to have several trees taken down. Very good experience and my yard looks MUCH better.
