We had the fan motor fail in our AC condenser (outside) unit. I called Van's based purely on the high marks earned at Angies, and am compelled to write this as a warning to others. Last summer before things got really hot the fan blew in our condenser. The air handler still functioned, blowing air, it just never got cold. I checked it out myself, saw the fan not moving but humming, and called Vans. They promptly sent a guy out. He replaced it, gave me my bill for $745, and probably drove away in laughter with my check. I know HVAC services tend to be overpriced but did not know just how badly I was ripped off until today. I had Sears out today to service our other unit and he looked at this one as well. I asked him what he would charge to replace the fan motor, and he replied $380, which in his view was over priced by about 2x. I told him I thought I paid more, and he was very surprised given that Sears is usually the highest out there by some margin. I paid $745 for the fan motor, a part that costs around $50 if you had the time to find it yourself. Not only did we pay double the full Sears price (or quadruple a more competitive price in the opinion of the Sears tech), it was accompanied by a very strong push to replace the entire unit. They would credit my $745 towards the new unit if I agreed to the purchase in a fairly limited amount of time. A year ago I just paid this and let it go. Having learned now how badly I was gouged, I must now write this as a warning to others. Be careful!

Van's came out to investigate why my A/C was not working. They then called me to set up a sales call after we determined that the A/C could not be fixed. The salesman was well informed and gave me the rundown in a clear manner. He explained all of my options in a clear way and was very helpful. The A/C was installed later that day. The intallation team was very professional and polite. Van's may not have been the cheapest company, but I felt the most comfortable with their service.

I have a contract with them. I had a ten-year warranty on my air conditioner which expired this year. I kept the service contract with them to make sure that I had the right service for my warranty. Over the years I have done some significant warranty work and have had no problem with them. Their price is as high as anybody else’s, but I am very satisfied with them.

The repairman was schedule to arrive between 2 - 6PM. At 7:00 I called and left a message that he had not arrived. He finally arrive at 8:30 PM. He worked on my A/C for an hour or more. Got it to stop leaking, but said that it was shot and needed replacing and that someone (John) would call me tomorrow with details. John proceeded to call me within 15 minutes of the repair guy. He stated that the A/C was not going to last long and that he would again call me tomorrow to go over everything. I asked about the service plan I paid for and I obviously won't need a service plan if I am needing a new AC. He stated don't worry you will only be charged for the service call ($74). Well John never called back and within two days my back account showed the deduction for the service call and the $174 for the service plan. After explaining everything to the woman who answered she told me that she refund the $174 and have John call me. I have never heard from John or anyone else from this company since and the charges remain on my account.

The service technician showed up on time and seemed to know what he was doing. It took about 2.5 hours to complete his work on both units. At the time I made the appointment and when it came time to pay the bill, I got the up-sell to purchase a one-year service contract instead of just paying for the one visit, which I ultimately purchased.

I have had a service contract for four years. Four years ago when I started interviewing ac companies for a repair or replacement, Van's was the only one to tell me I didn't need to replace the entire system at that time and they did some repair work which kept everything running fine for those four years. It finally gave out and I called for an estimate on a new system. Their sales rep came out and we discussed the options available. I felt the price was fair and signed the contract on a Friday. On Monday their crew was here at 8:30 am and replaced the inside and outside units with new, more energy efficient ones. They were unfailing polite and cleaned up after themselves. They left for a half hour lunch break and worked until almost 5:00 pm. They explained the new system and gave me my paper work, telling me that the office would fill out any rebate forms for me. I have always been extremely happy with any work done by Van's and recommend them highly.

Came promptly and blew out a blocked condensate line that was leaking water. Cleaned, tested and adjusted two A/C systems. Polite, clean and responsive.

They came out quickly and took care of the problem. They were very knowledgeable and were able to fix it promptly. They even showed me how to fix it in the future. There were no surprises in the cost.

I was at home in Northern Virginia when the air conditioner stopped working in my Florida condo. Based on Angie's List, I called Van's and arranged for them to give me an estimate for a replacement when I flew down to Florida the following week. They were scheduled to come at 1:00 PM. However, the day of the appointment I got a call from the technician saying he was scheduled for 11:00 AM. He agreed to move it to 1:00 PM. A little while later I got another call from him saying that he had an emergency involving his child and would not be able to make it. I never heard from anyone at Van's again.

They have a lot of good feedback but when they came over they tried to sell me a service contract. They wanted to charge me for the contract as well as coming out to my home if I didn't sign the contract. They resolved the situation.

This was the 5th A/C company I tried to stop the dripping from lines in my a/c unit (pancake unit) in my hall ceiling. No other company was able to diagnose the problem or they just didn't want to bother with a ceiling unit.

They showed up when they said they would and honored their warranty. I got my 9 year old A/C fixed for free. They had the parts needed at their office and they were delivered to the technician at my house.

They came out quickly on a Saturday, which was nice. When the guy gave us a high price to fix the air he had a salesman come by to talk about replacing it. Quick, nice, but expensive.

Sales Representative John was very knowledgeable. I spoke to 5 other vendors and while all where good, John was the only one who analyzed the situation and "fitted" the right system for us based on pay back and estimated life span of system (we live on the water near the ocean). Crew showed up on time and did all 4 systems in 2 days. Kept the work areas clean and cleaned up when they were done. Quality of work was top notch (I inspected along the way). Duct work and Air Handlers were fitted nicely and thoroughly sealed. Units were installed on stands and supported w/ chain hangers. New overflow pans were installed as well. Crew was polite and friendly. We had 4 systems installed in our old home in Maryland last year and that crew did a great job as well so I think I have some solid knowledge to base this work on. I feel that we got a great value and look forward to a long relationship with Van's from a service and maintenance standpoint.

I had an excellent experience with Van's Comfortemp this weekend. My central A/C unit stopped cooling on this very hot Mother's Day weekend. I called and left a message for "emergency" service, and heard pack promptly from the company. A technician arrived within 2 1/2 hours of my placing the call. The woman who returned my call explained there was an $85 charge for emergency service. The technician explained everything very well, gave me the option of cleaning the filters myself to save money, and was very polite. All in all it was an excellent experience.

Very well, even though it is time for a replacement unit.

After their installation, their service wasn't quite so good. I think it is expensive. The above cost is for 2 visits for year.

They seem to be quite knowledgeable. They are prompt.

Beautiful and clean workmanship. It did take three passes to get the new fangled thermostat to operate. It was so new, only one guy in firm was really knowledgeable with it. I am very happy with the 16SEER unit. I had one problem with it, and they came out the next day and made it right.
