Description of Work: Ac tune up, all so went a little extra and did not charge me more, not sure of the gentlemans name, but he really knew his bussiness and did not try to nickle dime me for any extras as other AC. Companies have tried yo do in the past

Description of Work: I had requested a routine service call to fix central air. Service tech looked at unit for only a few minutes and told me it is not cost effective to repair it. I do have a reasonable understanding how the system works and thought only the fan motor in the outside compressor was the problem. Tech disagreed following his brief assessment. Hard sell for $5200 for replacement unit. I told him I would get to him and called a company listed on Angie's list rated A with 57 reviews. They confirmed that I was correct. All I need is a fan motor.

Description of Work: Air Conditioning Unit semi-annual tune up. The first tune up from Van's. Dave Shubert arrived right on time, performed a complete tune up, which included diagnosing a peculiar shriek at the air handler inside my garage, It shrieks for a few seconds after the air conditioner switches off, but only when it rains. It turns out the noise is generated by the compressor, about 40 feet away, when the pressure in the tube and coils equalize. I stress this because non of the other technicians from firms that I previously called made an attempt to figure it out, nor did they give an appropriate tune up. Dave also pointed out that the emergency shut off valve was not installed, a code requirement. this cost $126. The service from Van's was excellent and pleasant. This is in contrast to the service provided by a couple of other firms that do a poor, incomplete job (they are afraid to clean it because it will explode) and, anyhow, they say I need a new installation immediately! My home was built in 98, this occurred in 07. I tried a second company a couple of months after with similar results. So I just changed the expensive anti-allergen air filter every couple of months in season until I found Angies List and Van's. Van's performed maintenance and repairs and did not use it as a ruse to sell me a new unit.
