Description of Work: A bathtub in Jack and Jill type bathroom was in a bad shape. We rehired David to do a second bath. David had a plumber to replace the tub with a new one, completely retiled walls and floor, installed new vanity cabinets and medicine cabinets, painted walls and ceiling.

+ 3 moreThis project went great overall especially leaving David in charge. We live in Maryland and this condo is an older one in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. David handled all the problems that would come up and be our eyes and hands on. He suggested numerous fixes to problems, obtained the people to do the related work he was not equipped to do such as replacing poor plumbing that was damaged. His work on our floor turned out beautifully. He laid the tile diagonally which improved the visual aspect of the condo when walking in the front door. He is a great person to work with. kept us informed of what was happening and treated us like family. he never loses his "cool". we are now in the phase of replacing the kitchen cabinetry. I only wish I had David here in Maryland to do my floors here.

Also replaced 1 toilet, 1 bathroom with sink and vanity top. removed old cabinet work. helped to repair a plumbing problem, installed bifold wood doors in 6 different closets and helped do trouble shooting with various other phases of the remodeling job.

+ 0 moreI could not ask for a more professional and perfectly excecuted job than what David Shannon delivered. From start to finish David was consistently early on his arrivals, accurate on his time and cost estimates, and expert in his knowledge and skill. This was not a big job, but replacing the floor in a shower can turn into a nightmare. From the start, David set an appointment for an estimate and arrived 5 minutes early. He quoted very reasonably and I was concerned that he may not have covered all the costs up front. I realized shortly thereafter that my apprehension was clearly unfounded. Even though he had other jobs, he arranged to work around my schedule and was always early for his appointments. The job consisted of pulling up old, poorly done tile and grout. Finding tile of the same thickness so that the tile would fit the existing drain. Then laying down a new layer of "mud" (cement) with improved drainage. Then setting the tile, and, finally, grouting. I recently was in charge of renovating 5000 sft of office space and worked with over a dozen contractors. With that experience and opportunity for comparison, I feel confident in highly recommending David Shannon to anyone needing tile work.

Description of Work: I hit my head on the ceramic soap dish that was attached to my shower wall. It cracked into about ten pieces. I called Mr. Shannon on Saturday and explained the problem. He was here on Monday and removed the damaged soap dish and attached a new one. The price included the soap dish.

+ 0 moreAs Dave demolished the shower, he was able to show us why the damage had happenned so we could understand (the plastic liner was not installed properly, and they used drywall inside the liner so it wicked up the water and the walls rotted out and molded). He chose the best materials to rebuild the shower, even at higher cost to himself, to make sure the shower was reconstructed right this time. His work was very meticulous, and every day he cleaned up after himself to keep the place as tidy as possible. He made suggestions about the best way to lay the tile, the color grout to use, went out and found us soap holders (something we hadn't thought about) that would match the tile we chose, all so the finished product would be as nice as possible. The end result looks great, I've rarely seen tile laid so perfectly and cleanly. We feel confident that the work was done the way it should be, so we won't have problems again in the future. The price was reasonable, and we'll use Dave again in the future.
Description of Work: We had mold and water damage in our tiled shower, so the entire shower had to be demolished down to the studs, rebuilt, new shower pan created, and new tile laid in the shower. Dave also took down a mirror that was glued to the wall and helped my husband put in our new vanity and granite vanity top.

It just didn't work out but I did get a quote. I got the impression that he was very professional and knew what he was doing. He appeared to be very honest and straightforward. He was excellent. The only reason I didn't use him was because of a conflict of scheduling.

He found a guy to take out cabinet and faucets, demolish existing walls and put cabinets back in the and. He did pour new concrete floor inside shower, build new shower walls. + -1 moreDave managed to squeeze my job in over a four day period in between other jobs. He's prompt, honest and reliable. During the job, he accidentally scratched one of my counters. It was truly a mistake....not done out of carelessness. He brought it to my attention immediately and offered to reduce the bill to compensate for it. His work was so good that I dismissed the scratch and paid the full amount.
Description of Work: Dave removed some existing tile and then replaced about 225 square feet of tile and carpet with an 18 inch porcelain tile. He installed the tile in a mortar bed, prepared the floor beforehand with a bonding agent and repaired several cracks. His work is done the old way....that is the right way! The tile looks fantastic.

+ 0 moreOur shower looks great, the look of the stone floor makes it look like a remodelling job, not just a fix. We also upgraded our door based on his suggestion to a glass frameless one. It is important to mention that if the price could sound high to some, it is because we have a REALLY BIG SHOWER. He had to use more than one pan to cover the area. It is not the first time David works for us and it will most probably not be the last.
Description of Work: Water had been filtrating trough the grout in our shower and the floor was slippery wall tile (builders, builders...) David said most probably we only needed to replace the shower pan, the tile on the floor and 2ft of wall tile. He brought us samples or stone tile to use on the floor and explained how it even had to be diagonal, contrary to again what the builder did, which had no incline into the drain. David did the job exactly as he explained, showed us through every step what was wrong and how it would be fixed.

+ 0 moreMy wife and I are absolutely thrilled with the results. Dave did an outstanding job and he is just such a pleasure to work with. He loves what he does, he is fantastic at it and has a great eye. He had some ideas about how to accent our entryway and stairs and not surprisingly it turned out not only gorgeous but really is the centerpiece of the room. Everyone that has seen the job was amazed. The grout lines are so tight the floor looks almost seamless. On top of that Dave was always looking out for us even when it was not related to the job. When we get our kitchen remodeled next year he will be back to do more work and as well as re-tile both our upstairs bathrooms. I was so thrilled with his work I have already referred Dave to a friend who had Dave do his apartment kitchen. He in turn was equally as pleased and has referred Dave to his apartment manager for more jobs. It bears mentioning that because of the size of the job, and it is in my nature, I researched installers quite thoroughly. I had several estimates and after all was said and done I could not be happier. For those of you looking for someone to do any sort of tile work you need look no further. Call Dave Shannon, you just found THE tile guy.
Description of Work: I contacted Dave to give an estimate on removing existing tile in entryway, kitchen, bathroon and laundry room, and install the new tile for the entire downstairs, approximately 1000sf. Dave came out promptly the next day, on time to give an estimate. He was exceedingly thorough in his measurements, explanation of services, process and time to completion. He has a passion for what he does and it really shows. Dave came back out the next day as he said, right at 8:00AM not a minute late. He is very punctual. He provided the estimate and my wife and I agreed on the spot to hire him. He offered then to meet us at the tile store to help us make some selections. The only day we could do it was Saturday and he said no problem. When we go to the tile store he was already waiting for us and had a sales person lined up to assist. He spent over an hour of his own time listening, suggesting, and just being patient. In the end we went with his selections because they really were the best. The tile had to be ordered so we waited a few months because of scheduling on our end to do the work. Dave came and delivered the new tile and then spent the next two and have a half weeks ripping out the old tile, prepping the surface, mudding, and installing the new tile. It bears mentioning that his preparation work far exceeds anything I have heard of or seen before. I know that this tile will last as long as the house and more importantly so will the installation. During this time he also lined up a plumber for me to fix a drain issue I had for a new vanity I was going to have installed. He himself ripped out the drywall, chiseled out the concrete to make way for the new drain, and then repaired all the drywall once the plumber was done. This he did while installing my new tile and he did not have even charge me for it. I could only hope that the rest of my contracted workers are half as good.

Despite being held up a couple of times with the scheduling he remained upbeat and positive throughout the project. I could probably have found someone cheaper to do the work however I was pleased with his work and I felt that his prices were reasonable.

+ -1 moreMr. Shannon gave me an hourly estimate because he wasn't sure what would be involved once he started the work. He showed up promptly and the job involved less than anticipated. He told me exactly what to expect and what would probably happen to my shower tile and wall within 5 years. He was extremely honest and did a great job. He even gave me a small bag of grout to use when I have a problem with it again and mopped up the bathroom floor!

+ -1 moreDave helped us with an extremely difficult situation. We had 8-9 tiles that needed to be replaced in front of a sliding glass door. The difficult part was that the tile was many years old and we could not find matching tile anywhere in the area. After weighing the pros and cons with Dave we decided to go with a similar tile that was close, but not quite right. Dave pointed out all the pluses and minuses with our decision and made sure we were 100% satisfied with what we have decided before moving forward. I am extremely happy with how the work turned out. Given the difficult situation matching the tile, I couldn't have expected anything more from Dave and his workmanship. Three previous tile repairmen came out to provide an estimate, took a tile sample and then never returned. Not only did Dave return more than once to help us, which is more than the previous 3 contractors, he got the job done and it looks very nice considering the situation.
Description of Work: Dave clean up the concrete floor in front of a sliding glass door and repaired approx. 8-9 ceramic tiles.

+ -1 moreI wish I would have known about Dave earlier. From start to finish, Dave was excellent! He did give me one piece of advice for the next project we do together. I need to meet him at the tile/marble store first to get the best tile quality for my money. He took his time to make sure all the angles were perfect. I also appreciated his patience with me in wanting to add details as the remodel progressed. Dave gave me the BEST customer service I have ever received! I also appreciated his laid back and can do attitude.
Description of Work: Dave did mostly the marble tile work that was needed in our master bath remodel. He also did some minor marble work and carving to create soap and shampoo holders. He suggested ways of making the bathroom work better and offered great ideas on how things would look better. He did such a great job in his tile work that the frameless shower installers commented on how good his job was going to make their job look!
