"The guest bathroom remodel included removing the old tub insert, installing the new tub (which I purchased) with faucet and shower fixtures, electrical, ceiling above the tub, and the tile surround for the new bathtub. The tile surround installation was included in the invoice and contract with Mr. Bennett. Initially the tile man forgot to put the designated niche mold into place (found it on our front steps) and constructed his own. The bottom tile of the niche was uneven so the shampoo and conditioner and soap would fall out of the niche onto our feet.. The tile man's assistant was not vetted and had a "Violent Warrant out for his Arrest" and we were robbed about $25,000.00 worth of jewelry, medication, check book and credit card! The tiler's assistant was caught and is in jail still pending sentencing. He had robbed other homes before ours. Mr. Bennett was notified and in the loop of both the uneven niche construction as well as the jewelry, medication, check book, and credit card robbery . His plumbers agreed upon the poorly constructed niche upon inspection. Jim Bennett Plumbing agreed to send a different tiler to repair the niche problem (of course not the same tiler/assistant who robbed us). No one ever came back after 4 months and repeated phone and text calls. Toes being sore from falling bottles, I finally hired another tile man myself, had the niche problem fixed and sent Jim Bennett Plumbing the invoice. Even though we paid for the job which was agreed to, he has yet to reimburse us for the repair of the faulty tile niche. Neither he nor his insurance company are accepting any responsibility for the unvetted assistant tile man and the egregious home robbery while in our home doing the tile. My home owner policy covered only $1,000.00 for jewelry (a loss of $24.000.00 due to Bennett Plumbing vetting negligence). When we investigated the tile man's assistant, he had a very long rap sheet documented in the computer so it would have been very easy for Jim Bennett to evaluate the tile man's assistant who he sent and allowed entry into out home.. I had high hopes for Bennett plumbing. However, because of his lack of reimbursement for a faulty tile job, thereby requiring another tile contractor to correct the problem; and the fact that I cannot trust his employees ever again, would not be able to recommend his company.. Mr. Bennett did lower the invoice amount from the original contract since he did not complete (electricians, ceiling repair etc) the installation and remodel, ( especially since we no longer felt confident in his choice of personnel ). I finished the project by subbing the completion of the work . My husband and I can no longer recommend Jim Bennett Plumbing, The quality and standing by one's workmanship seems to have disappeared somewhere in his 50 years of business. Such a sad and tragic situation....for all of us. PS., Of less significance was his plumbers put in a new faucet in our other bathroom's sink vanity as the older faucet was dripping. Unfortunately something wasn't tightened and when the water was turned back on water was squirting out all over the back bathroom causing my daughter and granddaughter to scream in anguish. The plumber promptly turned the water off. My daughter mopped up the mess, and the installation was finally completed properly. I don't think I ever mentioned this incident to Mr. Bennett. The robbery and ill installed niche seemed to be more pressing issues..."

A gas log fireplace should be inspected and serviced as needed once a year. Preventative maintenance can help keep your fireplace in working condition and save money in the long run by avoiding more costly repairs on parts that could have been fixed sooner with a regular inspection.
The cost difference between a gas fireplace and a wood-burning fireplace depends on the type of wood-burning fireplace installed. The cost to install a gas fireplace tends to be cheaper than the cost to install a brick wood-burning fireplace. Installing a gas fireplace costs about $3,600 on average, whereas the cost to build a masonry wood-burning fireplace can go up to $30,000. The cost to install a wood-burning fireplace insert or stove can cost from $700 to $6,500, about the same as a gas fireplace on average.
The cost to repair a fireplace depends on the type, extent of repairs needed, and your location. The average cost to repair a fireplace varies depending on the part of the fireplace that needs work:
Firebox: $160–$2,500
Refractory panel: $200–$300
Hearth: $150–$800
Mantel: $500–$1,200
Pilot light: $100–$350
Igniter: $100–$150
Gas valve: $150–$300
Thermocouple: $75–$350
Thermopile: $75–$350
Yes, it can be worth installing a gas fireplace, depending on your home heating needs. The cost to install a gas fireplace can be much lower than the cost to install a comparable wood-burning fireplace. The convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch and turning it off just as quickly makes a gas fireplace a big time saver over starting and maintaining a wood-fueled fire. A gas fireplace also does not require ash cleanup or frequent chimney cleaning to remove creosote and other buildup that can lead to chimney fires. Gas fireplaces burn and heat much more cleanly than wood fireplaces.
A gas fireplace insert costs about $3,600 to install, on average. The cost to install a gas log insert ranges from about $700 to $6,500, depending on the size, type of insert, how it works, and heating needs. Gas fireplaces need electrical and gas lines installed properly, so hiring a pro is recommended rather than trying to DIY installation.
