Description of Work: I call tropical from plumbing through Angie's List. It was rated A+.When I called The company receptionist she said the cost and work would be $135. The plumber came at a reasonable time about 20 minutes after scheduled time but respectable. The plumber was a nice person assess the situation and proceeded to do the work he indicated that the rate would be $135 an hourAnd he would try to get it done within the time. This was the company rate I said ok. It was an emergency.He bed valve connecting the main line to the condo apartment was bad in was replaced. Considerable time was used to find the shutoff valve outside and eventually the main valve to the entire complex was turned off. Even with this the work was done with in about 40 minutes. The plumber call the main office and then after talking with them said that the receptionist is saying that the rate is actually $135 per half hour and thay I owed them 270 dollars for 40 minutes of work and and replacing one $20+ shut off valve. |Hi demanded to talk to the receptionist. See, call the receptionist we talked and I said this was not the agreed wait that the plumber has stated. She sort of saying well that is the rate and I would have to pay it. She then said that if the rate wasn't paid they would Have thePlumber remove the work and leave the premise. |I started to have them do that but a friend who was in the house with me at the time ask me to negotiate with them. At which time I did along with the plumber.After a lot of bickering with the receptionist and now her boss in the background the price was settled at $160.Tropical plumbing did not go into detail about their one hundred and $35 cost. When the plumber got there And assess the situation,he gave the amount which he thought was the correct amount of $135 per hour. I feel that tropical used the situation to attempt to get more money than the norm. That's why they were willing to negotiate. I will not use this company again. And Angie's List needs to screen these contractors better before giving them an A rating like that.

Description of Work: I called them to repair our dishwasher that was leaking. The plumber arrived on time and was professional. He replaced the cracked drain hose and referred me to a company to repair the water damage. price seemed a little high for changing a hose.

+ 0 moreMy water heater was heating the water way too hot, but it ran out with about 3 inches of water in the bath. I called and a plumber was sent out in about an hour. He told me my lower element (thermostat?) was out, and advised that I have both the upper and lower elements replaced at the same time. The elements were $15 apiece, so I agreed. He said he could do a more thorough overhaul and replace some other items for a total of $170, but said that if it were him, he'd just replace the elements for a total of $130.
Description of Work: The plumber replaced the upper and lower elements in the water heater.

+ 0 moreI purchased a gas tankless water heater from the gas company and assumed the price that they gave me for installation included all of the work that needed to be done. I learned after it was installed that I also had to hire an electrician and plumber. I had three estimates from plumbers, and Tropical's estimate was less than half those of the other two. No wonder the gas company said they do a lot of work for them! Everyone that I talked to was professional and polite, and the plumber did a quality job. He was patient with the chaos in my house (the AC repair man and cleaning lady were both there) and was careful not to let my cats out. He warned me about the mess he would make when removing the old water heater; however, he left everything spotless. He instructed me on the use and care of the new water heater. He was quite personable, and I would definitely call this company again.
Description of Work: Removed old water heater and pan. Connected new gas tankless water heater located on the outside wall directly behind existing one. Patched wall.

+ -1 moreThe plumber arrived on time and he was very courteous and knowledgeable. He connected everything and was careful about the installation job. He provided new drains for the sink and all the piping. The faucet and sink we had already. The whole job took him about an hour and a half, and he didn't charge the maximum based on the quote. Their maximum quote was cheaper than minimum quote of another plumber we called from the list. Overall, great job. My only complaint was the stuff they used, either the plumbers putty or the glue for the pipe stunk terribly for a few days.
Description of Work: Re-plumb new kitchen sink with different dimensions, re-connect garbage disposal, assemble new faucet fixture, connect dishwasher.
