The most important thing is that it all ended well. It started out OK. I called Roto-Rooter just before 8 a.m. The scheduler asked, "How can I provide you with great service" or something to that effect and then said they "had a tech in the area and they could be there in an hour". He showed up at 10:30. No problem at this point. He got right to work, described what he was going to do to see if he could do the job without breaking into the wall from the bedroom. He tried the fast fix, it didn't work, but I appreciated him trying. I showed him two other minor things I wanted him to do and then he put an estimate together for the newly defined job. It was all clear, I knew what the labor was going to be and had a good estimate of what the parts would be. He said he had to go get the parts, but, he would be back at noon. He called at 2:30 saying he had been called away to meet with the building inspector from the job the day before. He passed on the work order, parts and such to the next technician who would take over. I called a couple hours later...getting the same line about good service and having a tech in the area. The dispatcher said the tech would be there within the hour. I called again after dinner time with the same results. I called again at 8 p.m. with the same results. But when I got more demanding the dispatcher said that it took a more advanced plumber to do the job which was why it was taking so long. When I said that the first plumber had handed over the job and parts to another technician who was on the way at 2:30, and that I had been waiting since 8 a.m., they finally got the ball rolling. The next tech showed up at 8:30 pm. He walked in without the work order, with no parts and asked what the problem was. I was really annoyed at that point and he was defensive. I finally said he would just have to put up with my annoyance --he acted like he couldn't understand why I would be in a bad mood. I was not thrilled when he said, "You should have called a manager." That was the point when I firmly said he would not be telling me what I should have done when: I had been waiting all day to get a shower, I lost a full day of work (which requires water!) and had to put up with techs not showing up all day. At that point he excused himself to make a phone call...I assumed to tell his boss that he couldn't work for the crazy lady! A few minutes later I got a call from said boss who asked me to explain the whole problem. She totally sympathized with the day I had, asked if I could work with the tech that was there and rang off. This time Noel (Tech # 1447) came back in with his hat in his hand, so to speak. He asked if we could start over and from there everything went smoothly. He inspected the job, told me he would have to get the parts and then we talked about the pricing. He returned about 10:30 p.m. or so and started right in on the shower job. His work was superb! He cleaned things up nicely. He was totally respectful and kind. He did over and above what I needed him to do. He finished everything about 1 a.m. It took a while for him to input the work order totals because he had to back into the number the first plumber had given me. He doubled the coupon I had, and all in all I feel like the job was finished satisfactorily! I would use them again and I would ask for Noel. But, I would be much more forceful sooner if there was a problem.

They were fantastic! I called and someone was at the property within an hour. They looked at the situation and called me with an assessment, which included having to remove the toilet. Then he called me back to tell me that they didn't need to remove the toilet after all, which saved about $100. The scheduler and the tech were very courteous and professional. They emailed me a receipt for the transaction. I was very impressed and would use them again

We noticed we had a pin sized hole in the water line on December 27, so we called our home warranty service, American HomeShield, who sent out a vendor to assess the leak. The warranty service would not cover it and the company they sent out quoted us to do the repair for $460. We refused that as we felt it was way too high and had plans to repair it ourself. The next few days we noticed more pin hole leaks, and then finally it was steadily flowing water, so we shut off the water and we started chiseling out the wall, and realized this was a job for a professional. So on Monday morning we called a few other places and they said they couldn't squeeze us in until Wednesday, but with three kids, we couldn't afford to be without water that long, so we called RotoRooter and they sent someone out in two hours on the same day!! He did a wonderful job, and explained every step of the process and educated us on why it happened and how to possibly prevent future leaks from occurring. We will always call RotoRooter from now on!!
Description of Work: Repaired the main water line that had multiple leaks.

I called the 800 number early in the morning. I accepted an available appointment for that very afternoon. The guy arrived ontime. The service was great. I wish I remembered the plumbers name - he has been doing this a long time. He was very thorough, very informative. He explained why the drain was backed up (tile grout was calcifying in the drain). He also told me what to do to prevent this from happening in the future. I had 2 more questions about other faucets in our home. He answered those questions thoroughly and patiently. The shower drain is completely fixed, and I have a plan for how to make sure it doesn't happen again. It was a very informative and pleasant experience.

When I hired Roto Rooter, I was very clear that this was a tenant inhabited rental property. I made sure to express to the dispatcher that I was hiring them, and I wanted to speak solely with the service provider about the problem. The service tech called me to approve the cost of the solution, and I expressed again that I wanted to be the one he spoke with regarding the blockage, not my tenant. When the blockage was cleared, the tech called me back to let me know what he found. I specifically asked the tech if he was alone, and he stated that my tenant was right next to him. He then proceeded to tell me that the clog was a result of feminine products in the line. He also stated that the eco friendly, lower volume tank the toilet had was not enough to flush properly. Again, this is in front of my tenant. Long story short, my tenant knew that they would be in violation of the lease if the clog was found to be their doing. Because of this, my tenant was making every effort to have another story as to how the clog occurred. Because the service tech violated Roto Rooters own policy of ONLY speaking with the party that hired them, it has made enforcing the terms of the lease difficult. Yes, Roto Rooter management did furnish me with a written statement of the Tech's account of the service call, however, they are unwilling to address the fact that the service tech did not go to his truck to speak privately with me, the client, about the situation. Roto Rooter management has not responded to my last email, stating that the tech did acknowledge he was standing directly in front of the tenant while he briefed me on what he had found in the line. If you are a land lord, DO NOT use Roto Rooter to service your rental property. Although it is company policy that they only divulge information to the person who hires them, it is very clear that this is not practiced or enforced, otherwise this situation would have been avoided all together. Bottom line, this has cost me a lot of money, and headache. Tenants know the terms of the lease they sign, they also will try to deny responsibility for things. Roto Rooter management agreed with me on this, and even added that I would be stunned at some of the things they have seen over the years. In the end, Roto Rooter has failed to enforce this policy, and they have failed to acknowledge or attempt to resolve this issue I have with them. DId they clear the line? Yes. Did they diagnose the problem, yes, but did they stick to their rule of confidentiality with the hiring party? No. And for this reason, I will never use them again.

I called for an emergency appointment at 9:00 PM as we were experiencing heavy down pour and my garage was flooding. I asked for an emergency dispatch due to the flooding. I explained I was doing what I could (shop vac) to hold the water back but it was flooding despite my efforts. They committed to have someone out asap (within 2 hours) and I should get a call within an hour. The only thing that happened is they called me about a little over an hour after my first call and left me a message to call back to get status on my order. I called back and sat on a constant loop of a hold waiting for dispatch. When I called back in to the main customer service I was told they must have stepped away from their desk and they would have them call me when they returned. When I was finally able to get someone on the phone to give me a status while I was battling flooding in my garage they informed me they would not be able to send someone out until the next day. I guess they don't understand emergency appointment or flooding. This company is horrid and does not live up to their promises or seem to care one bit about theircustomers. I stopped the flooding myself out of anger and I am getting a highly reviewed drainage company out to do the work after this experience. Buyer beware, avoid this company.

Had a very heavy layer of "crust" Took awhile to clear that so tank could be pumped. Once pumped lots of sludge on bottom. After severasl backwashings tech was able to COMPLETELY clear the tank. He kept us informed of what the conditions were from when he opened the tank until he was finished. Very competent, freindly. Would definetily hire them again. This was the Tavares, Florida I called.

They sold me a water heater with a 10 year warranty for $1400. In six years, the water heater went out. They wanted to sell me another water heater because they could not find my invoice. When they finally found it they wanted me to contact the manufacturer and pick up another tank. Called another plumber that the manufacturer recommended and they picked up another tank and installed it and returnec the busted tank all for $158. Roto Rooter did not follow through on their sale.

Definitely a poor experience, overall. The problem seems to be fixed now after 2 visits, but I feel I was overcharged and an attempt was made for me to spend an additional $300 for a part and labor that was not necessary. If I experience this same problem in the future, I will shop around for a better deal.
Description of Work: Whenever I used water anywhere in my house, it would cause the toilet downstairs to overflow. I had a clog. RotoRooter came out the same day I called them, which was great. The plumber took about 2 hours to work on the problem and said everything was good. The charge was $316 because I used a coupon but I also needed a couple of wax rings. The plumber also recommended that I replace my flange-a $40 part that will be an additional $260 for labor. My question was "what do you charge $260 for-what labor does replacing this part entail?' I was told to call his Manager because he did not know. Based upon his explanation of where the flange goes-I did not see it taking more than 15 minutes. This did not leave me reassured and I AM SURE I did not need the part. This ridiculous price to replace this item definitely made me wonder what else was I being OVER charged for. I did not have him replace the flange. And guess what?-the problem was not fixed. Later that night, I had the same problem when I went to take a shower. I had to call RotoRooter again and ending up having to take a day off work to get the problem fixed. I also requested another plumber come back and use their camera tool to make sure the problem was fixed. They were not available that same day, so an appointment was made for the upcoming Saturday between 9-11am. After noone showed up between 9-11, at 2pm on Saturday I received a call and was told someone would be there for my appointment soon. I had afternoon plans so I was not home during that time. I never called them back to reschedule.

Based on recommendations here, I scheduled a same-day appointment on a Saturday. By the time the tech got there two hours later, within the committed time, two of three toilets were working acceptably. Nevertheless, I thought I would have him augur all three just so they would be clean. He quoted me a price with a discount for the second and third toilets. I thought the price was high for ten minutes of work per toilet, but I was given the price in advance and I committed to it anyway. The tech recommended that I try some of their proprietary drain cleaner for ongoing maintenance, which was also priced rather high. So, I bought it anyway, just because I was feeling like trying it out. Nothing bothers me like slow drains. All toilets worked fine after the service. However, I didn't notice that the tech did not clean up after himself very well. I heard about it later from my girlfriend. Not good! Dirt on the toilet seat is a big issue. When it came time to pay for all of this highly priced stuff, I noted that the tax calculation on the bottle of drain cleaner was incorrect. It had been based on a 7% sales tax rate instead of 6%. The rate in this county had changed as of January 1, so there was ample time for the rate change to have been made in their system. This company has a well recognizable name, national presence, and a great advertising program. Prices are high, but had this been a real emergency, I know I would have had competent and timely resolution. However, they need to pay attention to some small details like clean-up and getting tax calculations right. For the prices charged, everything should be perfect.
Description of Work: All three toilets were draining slowly or not at all. Thought I had a sewer line problem. Turned out that I didn't, but I had the tech augur all three toilets just to ensure that there were no blockages.

I broke the drainage spout off of my hot water heater. Hot water was flooding my garage and the cut-off valve would not work. My neighbor help cut off water supply to my house. Decided to call Roto-Rooter because they advertised no additional fee for weekends and no fee if service not performed. Exceptionally good service from the moment someone answered the phone. Very professional, took care of both of my issues, turned my water back on, and even referred me to an online coupon to help cut down on my costs. Everything, from initial call to time the service representative left, took less than 4 hours. I'll defintely call them again.

I had water leaking behind a wall on a Sunday afternoon, so I called because they advertise no extra fees for weekends. Someone immediately took my call and gave me a 4 hour window for that same afternoon. I received several calls that afternoon from the dispatcher letting me know the status - this was great and reassuring! The plumber showed up on time and looked professional. Anytime there is water behind a wall, there will be some damage but he promptly provided several options. His estimate was a little high considering the total time that he spent, but he did the job correctly and cleaned up after his work.
Description of Work: A pipe coming out of the foundation that supplies water to our bathtub had cracked. It was necessary to chip away the concrete to expose the cracked pipe, so a repair could be made.
