Ferran Services & Contracting

Ferran is extremely overpriced. What started as an inside unit fan replacement, resulted in estimates for an entirely new interior/exterior unit. When I decided to get a second opinion, a new interior unit was recommended but not a new exterior unit. And even if I chose to do both, the second estimates were significantly lower than Ferran. We originally chose Ferran because they are a large company that I thought I could trust, which was a mistake on my part. The Ferran repairman diagnosed the fan in our inside unit air handler, which is held in by a total of 6 screws, was broken and needed to be replaced. After the broken fan was removed & new fan installed, he realized there was an evaporator coil leak and the entire interior unit needed to be replaced (essentially new fan & new coil). He left the new fan installed to allow for some air circulation pending Ferran contacting us with a complete interior unit estimate. Even if we did not go with them, he would take the fan back, no questions asked since replacing the interior unit would include a fan. Ferran contacted us with estimates ranging from $6200 to $13000 (!!) for both a new interior and exterior unit, despite the repairman not telling us the outside unit needed replacing. Due to the high estimate, we sought a second opinion. The second opinion confirmed an interior unit was needed (fan + evaporator coil), but not an exterior unit. In addition, they indicated the amount charged by Ferran for the interior/exterior units were extremely high. We went with the second company, who completed the repair for substantially less and uninstalled the Ferran fan, which we returned to Ferran two weeks after the initial repair. At this point we expected to be billed only for the Ferran repairman's time to originally remove the broken fan, identify the evaporator coil leak, and install the temporary fan. Two weeks later, we were billed $1013 for the repair. We contacted the company and spoke with an account manager named Kyle, who was not very pleasant. He agreed to refund about half of the money, leaving a balance of $421 for about 30 minutes worth of work. I offered to pay them for 2 hours of labor at their going rate, which would include the travel time and repair time, with some additional time included. But why bother - they had already billed my credit card. Kyle became more unpleasant, even telling me that any refund they offered was really generous on their part. He told me that the fan could not be reused, although he couldn't explain why (it was not unboxed at my house, so I don't know whether it was a new fan. Needless to say, it is supposed to be a new fan should be usable in another repair). They did not offer to return the fan that I had, apparently, paid for. If they had told me that I would be billed $1000 for a couple of weeks of air circulation, I would have told him to put my broken fan back in. For what it is worth, the repairman who actually replaced the entire inside unit said he would have charged approximately $200 for a fan replacement (~1 hour of travel/labor + $75 for the part). Ferran initially charged us $1013 for only an interior fan replacement and reduced only reduced it to $421 after contacting them and reminding them we returned the fan. We were willing to pay for the Ferran repairman's time, but feel $421 for two hours of time is excessive and unwarranted. So I would only recommend going with Ferran if you are looking for an opportunity to get charged at a rate several times higher than other A/C companies may charge. I guess they know Floridians will not want to go into the summer months without air conditioning and will charge whatever they can get away with. This was our first replacement and after discussing with many friends and family, we feel confident our second opinion is more in line with what you can expect for the type of AC work completed vs. the over-priced work of Ferran.

My a/c was not working. The technician (Scott) quickly diagnosed the problem, explained to me in layman's terms, and replaced the faulty wire. The a/c is now working and my house is cooling down! Professional, prompt, courteous, financially reasonable; will definitely call them in the future.

He was congenial, professional and sweet. Pointed out what was wrong, fixed it and now I have light and my ceiling fan working.

I called and spoke with the phone rep at Ferran on 6.30.2015 at or around 4PM. I explained that I located them on Angie's list and was looking for a work estimate on some electrical work. They told me that they would transfer me to their estimate specialist "Grant" who would schedule the estimate. I was quickly transferred to a voicemail (possibly Grant's) where I left my name and contact information. I repeated the information several times as sometimes "phone messages" are not clearly received. I never heard back from Grant. I phoned back to the "main office" number at approx 9AM on 7.1.2015 and told them of the situation when I quickly came to the realization that if they are not returning my phone calls, how could I trust them to show up for a job. I'm going to try again with a different provider. I find it difficult to believe they have received an "A" rating. Perhaps my experience was just a "glitch".

Overall: I give 5 stars for perfection. If they had vacuumed up the carpets, cleaned the dirty upstairs ledge, & picked up the wire clippings/screws/insulation outside, then I would have given them 5 stars. I would hire them again, but with a point that they clean up EVERYTHING. If they had clipped their wires in a bucket or garbage can, then I do not think it would be much of a problem. Pros: 1. Provided estimate within 24 hours. 2. Work done within 1 week of signing the contract. 3. Work done in 1 day. 4. Nick (who provided the estimate) was very punctual & professional. He also provided different options on A/C systems. 5. Credit was applied since they did not need to add an outside duct. They used the existing duct. 6. They do not use subcontractors. Cons: 1. Cleanup - there was some wire clippings, insulation, & screws on the lawn that I had to cleanup. I don't think my lawnmower would have liked that or my bare feet. They did use tarps on the carpet, but there was some bits of dirt (I think plaster) on the carpet afterwards which was easily vacuumed up. There was also some dirt on the ledge on the second floor which was also easily cleaned up with some windex. Misc. 1. Cost was about the same as the others.

Not well. Overcharged. Eventually got the difference back but never received the Angie's list discount. Used this company for plumbing and ac. Won't use again. Evap coil replacement rescheduled because of weather and personnel issues.

We had a serious plumbing problem on Sat. afternoon and called Ferran Services. Water was spewing from a pipe in our house and running into the street. The plumber arrived in about an hour. He was knowledgable, efficient and professional. He promptly diagnosed the problem and fixed it for a very reasonable price. We would definitely use them again.

The person came in to look at the electrical, and after the fact, he told us that we would not receive the report for a week. Then, when the report finally came we only received an estimate. There were no details of what needed to be done. We did not get what we paid for.

The first charge was $79 just to walk in the door minus the $25 Angies list coupon. At first the repairman changed a relay at around $120, then I was told that the coolant was low by about 2lbs. At around $60+ dollars per lb. Then I was told that another component, a TXV valve wasn't working right and needed replacing. The tech told me it would be around $1200 but he would give it to me for somewhere around $900. Who do you trust at this point? Ending results, I can run the air but I was told that I would have to run it around 78 degrees or it would freeze up.

Initially my unit was not working. They came and let me know that there was a massive air restriction to the unit due to double filters and dirty ones at that. The line had frozen so no air was sent to the ducts even though the unit was working. Scott let me know that I should have only one filter and let the unit defrost. I let it do that overnight and it worked as a charm. I kept my service appoint,net so it would work fine. He found a coup,e of issues that may have cause it to fail again later and save me trouble. He also fill it up with freon and now works fine. The initial service call was 79 and the final one with the freon and service was about 180. Now I know to call these guys for a annual check up.

Prior to installing these air conditioners, Rob Skiffington, the HVAC specialist from Ferran working with us, communicated with the general contractor doing the work on the sun room addition about the energy ratings, etc. on the windows used in the sun room. In addition, Rob came out twice with a technician to calculate heat loads and other factors related to the areas that needed to be air conditioned in order to determine the most efficient air conditioners to use in the upstairs and in the new sun room addition. After these calculations were made, Rob sent us information about three air conditioning models that would work for cooling the upstairs and explained the differences in price among these models based upon performance, etc. He also sent us information about three air conditioning models that would work for the most efficient cooling of the new sun room and explained the differences in price among these models based upon performance, etc. It was nice to have options in the selection of the models knowing that the recommended options were well thought out based upon factual and specific information about the cooling needs for each of the areas. The team of three Ferran installers could not have been more knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. The switching out of the old water-to-air air conditioner upstairs was not an easy task. They had to carry the old heavy unit down the stairs, build a new platform for the new air conditioner handler, go through the hot attic to install a duct system, put "piping" from the attic down the outside the house from the second story to the ground, go under the crawl space in the house to make connections, install the air compressor part of the air conditioner outside, and put an attractive cover over the "piping" down the side of the house. They also installed the new Mitsubishi Split-Type air conditioner in the sun room with the same skill and professionalism. The caliber of the workmanship and skill level of the technicians/installers was top notch. After the installation, Rob came to review the work and to make sure that we were satisfied with the work done. In addition, he spent a considerable amount of time going over the operations of both new units, which complimented the overview provided by one of the technicians who did the installation. We could not be more pleased with Ferran and with the performance of the new air conditioners.

First visit I was told faucet was almostt 12 years old and would only cost little more to replace with new one. Bought new faucet and phoned requesting particular technician to remove old and install new. Appt. for early afternoon and they arrived shortly after 12:pm. Work was completed within 30 minutes. Efficient and friendly. Have been using this company for about 20 years for plumbing and A/C work. In all that time have only had one problem and a more experienced man was out to finish the job a few days later. Would highly reccommend this company..

I am consistently impressed with the exceptional service that we receive from Ferran. About a year ago our AC broke down while my husband was out of town. We have two children, and no AC during the summer is a big deal in Florida! The dispatcher was able to get me a technician that night. It was a busy night for them, but the dispatcher kept calling to update me and Sam showed up at my door sometime before midnight. He quickly assessed the situation and figured out that the motherboard had been improperly wired and needed to be replaced. In order to get me AC for the night though he found a way to bypass the wiring. The very next morning he showed up with the new motherboard which he had found in their warehouse. Flash forward to last week. Our AC started rattling and sounded like it was on the brink of failure. I call Ferran and they were able to send someone to me within a couple of hours. I was really happy to see that it was Sam again. Sure enough, within 15 minutes he had diagnosed the problem and given us a temporary fix. He then gave us a quote for the new blower that we needed, a cheap fix at $175 with service included. The next morning another technician came to install the part. I can't speak more highly of a company. The phone staff is polite and courteous. You can tell that they really care, and they do the best to get you service quickly. The technicians really know their stuff and they come up with great solutions. They never push to sell you a new HVAC system, which has been my experience with other companies. Our system is is 16 years old, but they keep it going strong for us.

It went better than expected. The new units has lowered my energy cost while providing comfort. Best investment ever!!!

Provider offered a very quick response time. The dispatcher Walter was very patient as it took a few tries to reach my husband to be present for the service. The provider offered great advice regarding the roots that led to the cause of the back up and to call the city wastewater department. This is the second time that we have used Ferran. They have always been quick to come and diagnose the problem and fix it! We feel that their prices are fair, and that the technician serving our house is knowledgeable and gives good advice.
