Five Star Pool

We got a list of contractors and started calling. Roman Huf, owner of 5 Star Pool was only contractor who responded promptly, came to site, measured, and estimated work. He submitted a proposal the next day which included an extensive list of references to contact. I contacted a sampling of those and also found people whom I was aquainted with on the list and called. All gave an excellent report. Waited several days for additional contractors to respond but, some didn't for several weeks or not at all. We decided on 5 Star Pools and arranged for work to be done in the dry season. 5 Star staff started on a Wednesday in November 2016 with a drain down and prep work, the new finish was applied on Thursday and I started to refill pool. On Friday (3d day) pool was filled and ready for start up. Andrew and Jardo came to our pools and added chemicals for startup. 5 Star Pools provides details how to care for pool during the curing process. We are very happy with our pool finishes and how the work proceeded. All work was organized and performed in a professional manner. Kudos to Roman, Lenka, Andrew, Jardo, and Chris.

Great! Worksmanship is fantastic and the owner Roman personally comes out and inspects the work done. He asks for feedback and critique from the customer about how everything went and to make sure the customer is satisfied.

Roman- The owner Roman was great. He came out during the design and proposal process. We had 3 contractors bid our job. Roman was the only contractor to listen to all of our needs, wants and requests. He was very accommodating and easy to work with. I am in the service industry myself and our company motto is if we make a mistake, we own it, and explain how we will fix it. Roman and his crew did just that, we had a few unexpected bumps as with any construction project. Roman has very good communication skills and his sub-contractors are top-notch. They kept mostly to their timelines with the exception of mother nature showing up as in Florida she often does. Our project came out better than expected and my family loves it. I couldn't be more happy and satisfied for choosing Five Star Pools to build our pool. I would recommend them and use them again if needed.

It went very well indeed, a few delays due to weather, but otherwise very pleased with everything. First step was to remove tiles throughout spa and install glass tiles around top and seat and each step, then installed coping around edge and around patio steps. A separate subcontractor came in to install pavers throughout the patio and a new drain, completed in two days! At the same time all new pumps, filter and blowers etc were installed. Spa light was replaced with LED color changing light by electrician who additionally installed three ceiling fans and an exterior plug and light switch. Spa then had to be cleaned and prepared for pebble dash coating. Everyone who came to do their part worked very diligently and were all very good to work with, Entire job was overseen and managed by Andrew who is terrific. Would happily recommend without hesitation.

A+ for Five Star Pool! They did what they said they would do, when they would do it, and at a reasonable cost. Roman was in constant communication with us, and his communication was excellent - we always knew what was going on at all times. In particular we loved Washington, our paver installer who also did coping tile and pool tile. As professional tile installers ourselves, we were hard to please - but his attention to detail and follow up when we were not thrilled about on particular area was awesome. Additionally his cuts on the coping tile were perfect. Things sometimes go wrong in big projects, and as usual - it happened to us here and there - but Roman was always eager to do whatever it took to make it right.

I could not have been happier with our installer, Everton . If I could give an A+++, I would! Roman Came out and gave me a reasonable estimate. We had three companies come out and we felt he really knew what he was doing. We picked tile from the showroom and scheduled about three weeks out as I was told they were running about that long. Everton worked alone and did a great job. It was very labor intensive due to the fact that he had to cut the old tile out and not damage our pebble tec surface. He said he was a perfectionist and that was just what we wanted for our job. He really went above and beyond what you would expect. We picked gray grout and he pointed out that the grout wouldn't match existing grout in the tile on the steps but I said that was OK. When I got home the next day, I noticed that he had ground out all the grout from the steps and put in the gray grout! Lenka in the office was sweet and helpful and Roman was available for any questions we had.

Superb! Timely response. Provided a schedule of all work in advance and then complied with the schedule. Followup was also excellent. Personable and professional workers worked as a team delivering a superior product. My neighbors who chose another contractor and are still waiting are very envious. Thanks to Roman and his team.

We are so pleased with this company. From the start they had excellent communication with us and there were no hidden fees involved with their pricing. We love the outcome of our beautiful outdoor space. Thank you so much!!

Roman Huf was excellent to work with. He is a terrific listener and is very considerate. He provides excellent suggestions and recommendations based on his experience and yet he is not overbearing in the least. He is very professional and responsive. He also did everything that was expected and was flexible with changes. He was very conscientious to address any concerns we had, including returning several times following the completion of the project to ensure everything was done to our satisfaction. Roman is very thorough, understanding, patient, even-keeled and trustworthy. We were very happy with his work and we are very glad to know him. Roman assigned Andy to be our lead supervisor. Like Roman, Andy was very professional and responsive. Our project was lengthy and involved many people. Andy coordinated things very well at every stage and kept us informed. In Andy we felt our voice was heard along the way. The project took a bit longer than originally anticipated, which was understandable considering the breadth of work entailed and all the people it involved. We are ecstatic with our new pool, spa, lanai and driveway. Everything came out great! We highly recommend Five Star Pools for pool and spa remodeling as well as paver work and stone work. Their attention to detail shows in our high quality finished product!

I had read the prior bad reviews and we spoke to the owner about them before hiring him. We were satisfied with his response and hired him. Huge mistake.

Still in progress because Roman did not tell sub what to do, job delayed. We'll see

4 to 6 week project took 8 months. He blamed the US Government for part of the hold up. Pencil drawings in place of blueprints. His subcontractors complained about the pencil drawings with some having to ask me for clarification as what was needed because the pencil drawing was unclear. Made three tier deck then didnt build a retaining wall to hold up the second level back fill material. So he stated that the retaining wall will be an add on. Realy? So, he charged me 800 to build the retaining wall. Charged me 400 for 6 bottles of iron out that he admitted he had on hand but in the invoice, he stated the 400 for the six bottles of iron out; that I could have bought for under 34.00, was for a subcontractor to go to the store 6 times! 6 times for 4 bottles. Do the math, doesn't add up! Pool finish had to be redone. Roman blamed our well water, however, the pebble tech representative stated; "the pebble tec was installed incorrectly. " Once the pebble tec was finally completed properly, we had issues with the installed and sealed pavers having a bluish coloration on them due to the pool resurfacing. The resurfacing crew returned to clean the pavers but only did a half hearted job. Another crew came in and cleaned the area proprerly. An area that still required attention due to the bluish discoloration remained and Roman tried to say it was an issue with the surfaces of the pavers prior to being sealed. However, as soon as a company came in that new what they were doing, simply used a zyline type cleaner and guess what, the bluish coloration disappeared. At the onset of the contract, we thought Roman was an honest and trustworthy contractor, we were wrong. Other issues were lying to us about the issues, trying to redirect our questions or concerns to an answer he wanted us to belive, so he could get as much money as possible, with as little effort as possible. Our experience with 5 star pools has been long, extremely frustrating and disappointing. Roman, the owner, refuses to correct the remaining issues resulting from poor quality workmanship. We had to request him to fix items over and over again since the job started. The work was completed in January 2015; it is April and we were still trying to get him to correct issues. Roman refuses to fix these issues: ?uneven, loose, unlevel pavers, large gaps between pavers, improper sanding of pavers and cracked cement ? because he views them as maintenance issues which he doesn't fix. His response unprofessional and uncaring. He did not pull a permit for the coping required around pool. I strongly DO NOT recommend 5 star pools. Save yourself a big headache. List of issues we encountered below: - Changed original estimate for sealing - Damaged and discolored pavers - Broken water pipe - Torn screen - Constant miscommunication between Roman and the company he contracts out to - Cut wrong existing deco drain - Uneven, unleveled pavers that I marked with tape, covered up with sand in stead of fixing - Re-sanding with the wrong type of sand, twice - Large stain in new pool surface - Loose sand around the parameter of house that was not cemented in and moved all over patio - Pavers holding moisture due to water getting through unfilled spaces between pavers and creating white marks around coping and pavers - Concrete in extended patio cracked and uneven - Loose and hollow pavers.

We were very happy with the services provided through Five Star Pools. I should note we started with a pool that had dark green water and was obviously not maintained for years. We spent about 3 months just controlling (getting rid of) the "green" while the house remodel was underway. We started by getting bids from about 6 different pool contractors and narrowed it down to 3. The work was to include removing all the existing marcite as it was separating from the underneath layer and removing and replacing all waterline tile. As part of the remodel we also had to repair a 20' x 6' section of decking in the back corner of the pool that had dropped and caused a separation of the deck from the pool shell. This was a good size gap/crack that would leak when the water level was high enough. We also had the glass block wall separating the spa from the pool replaced with a solid wall with a granite spill over. We also pursued quotes from numerous aluminum contractors for re-screening or rebuilding or replacing the existing pool cage that was in horrible condition. We ended up selecting Five Star pool for the following reasons: 1) They made me feel the most comfortable with the method they would pursue to replace the failed deck area. 2) They were willing to provide a firm price for the removal of the entire Marcite surface. Most builders would only provide a price per sqft. 5Star provided a similar sqft price but also provided a very good price to remove the entire surface. It was important to me to know my worst case scenario for this cost. 3) They provided the lowest price to replace the entire screen cage. 4) lastly, they provided the best package price to do all the work. Once we selected 5Star pools they started the demo work within 3 weeks. They established excellent and frequent communications from the office, field supervisor and the owner. All workers and crews were excellent. They were courteous and friendly and generally cleaned up after themselves. While we inquired on a few minor issues, they were handled expeditiously and the work progressed well. We had the following done as part of the pool/patio remodel: - removed all of the previous marcite surface at the committed price - remodeled steps into pool adding a fourth step - installed new mini-pebble surface - selected option to remove the glass block wall and replace with solid wall and granite spillover - selected option to replace the pool lighting - selected option to add a SS handrail going down the step area (there was none before) - selected option to removed/replaced waterline tile - selected option to install new pool coping and deck pavers - selected option to remove and replace the entire pool cage including super gutters. The basic pricing was very fair as was the pricing of the options provided at my request. Having built three previous pools I was being very cautious to fully understand the pricing provided and the work being committed to. 5 Star made it easy by exhibiting great integrity and thoroughness. They followed it up with great quality and follow-thru. We are as happy as we could be with our new pool patio area. Five star pools took an area of the home that came close to making us walk away from the purchase and turned it into a part of the home we are now very proud of. I contacted eight of the better known pool companies before making my selection. There were very specific things I wanted in the contract so each company was provided with the same list. Some wanted to make additions while others were not capable of performing some specifications of the job. The prices ranged between $6,000.00, from the least expensive to the most expensive. Five Star Pool was not the least expensive, but was very compatible to most of the bids I received. I found Mr. Roman Huf to be very honest during this process and selected his company for the work. I was also very impressed with his office assistant Andrea. She communicated every step the work to be performed and assisted my wife and I with tile and stone selections. The final product is amazing. My family and I are thrilled with the yard and now really enjoy eating and sharing family time in the pool area. The spill-over sounds like a small brook, adding to a very relaxing atmosphere.

The project consisted of resurface on a 10,000 gallon fiberglass pool and spillover hot tub. I contacted several companies through Angie?s list for quotes. Five Star was one company who was able to do fiberglass resurface work. Roman came out promptly and provided a quotation. I then went with Five Star to proceed with the project as their pricing was very competitive. As soon as the project started, I was completely overwhelmed with how professional and incredible the work was. The quality of work far exceeded even my most rosy expectations. The tech (Ron) is both a craftsman second to none and an artist, paying close attention to all details. The work was simply amazing and I can not find the words to adequately express my satisfaction at every step of the process. Not only has Five Star brought this project to flawless conclusion, they are now the only company I would even consider for any and all pool repairs or service. I will be having my deck restored in the future and Five Star will get the project based on my experience with the resurface portion. Anyone who has a pool install, restoration, or service related project should strongly consider using this fine, high quality, top notch company.

It turned out very very nicely. I was extrememly happy with them.

I have made it a personal policy to not rate a contractor right away, as I have been burned in the past when problems occur shortly after the work has been performed. Therefore, this rating is 3 months post completion. I have nothing but great things to say about 5 Star Pools. Their work is high quality, and performed by craftsmen in their trade. I think Roman gave a fair estimate of the work to be performed. I added things as the work progressed, and Roman made them happen with no problem. Andrea provided great help in choosing pavers and coping that look great. Washington and his crew installed the pavers expertly. There were some complex angles to be cut to fit steps, etc., and Washington did an excellent job. In my opinion, they are true craftsmen. Aaron installed the salt system and automation expertly. I can't say enough about the help and advice that Marie gave me regarding paver sealing and maintenance. She and her helper sealed all of the pavers and helped me with balancing the pool. It all looks great. The few small glitches that happen during a renovation of this size were handled by the staff with no problem. I highly recommend 5 Star Pools, and will definitely use them in the future.

It was a pleasure doing business with 5 STAR POOL owner, Roman Huf, and his entire crew of workers. From the very beginning, Roman worked with us through the entire project to get our pool deck/pool renovations completed to our desired specifications. He gave us his personal cell phone number, and always answered our calls and showed up on the job site to check not only the progress of the work, but ask us about our satisfaction with the renovations. We are extremely happy with the results. Employees with 5 STAR POOL worked very hard and are very detailed oriented. Andrea was so helpful and extremely efficient in assisting us with our tile and paver selections, as well as answering all our inquiries. We can't say enough about Helio who installed the pavers. His professionalism and workmanship went beyond our expectations. The entire crew of workers were respectful, performed their work in a timely fashion, and did a great job with clean-up. We had initially got four estimates from other pool companies, and although 5 STAR POOL wasn't the least expensive, we feel we received so much more value for our money. We highly recommend 5 STAR POOL if you are looking for the highest quality service and dedicated professional workmanship. Our new pool deck is gorgeous!

Subcontracted work to unlicensed unprofessionals

I spoke with Roman on 6/19 and he scheduled a follow up with me on 6/20 or 6/21 (he was to call before he came). I made myself available both days, but never received a call!! I finally called the office again today and the phone just rang, not even voicemail. I hated to bother Roman in the field, but was so frustrated with the lack of customer service that I called him on his cell. When I asked him why he didn't show up for our appointment on Friday/Saturday, he said, "who is this again?... did I tell you that?... do I have your address (yes, you've already been here I once)... I was just coming home from vacation and must've not put it in my phone... why didn't you call me?" I explained that I am NOT his secretary, I am the customer. It is not my job to assist him with his schedule to insure he keeps his appointments. Needless to say, with this lack of customer service on the front end, I will not be using Five Star for my pool remodel. Very disappointing!!!!
