We went through a referral service and received estimates from three different companies. Bay Area A/C was the most comfortable feel for us. Their estimate was a middle price for us. Their representative, Pete, gave us an estimate for a downstairs unit also, at our request. He spent the most time with us of the three companies and was very honest and forthright. The installation was done by two techs, Phil and Ian, and they were both friendly, helpful, knowledgable, professional, and industrious. They arrived on time but, in the course of re-doing the duct work in the attic, they discovered that they did not have enough of the needed supplies. The job had to be completed over the course of two consecutive days. After each day they cleaned up the debris created and removed it. The only negatives that we have to report are that the job was underestimated, which resulted in two days that my husband had to take off from work and they replaced the breaker with a smaller size than was stated in the paperwork. This resulted in a red flag for them by the county inspector and an additional visit by them and the inspector. However, the work that was done was good quality and the workmen were efficient while they were here. The base issue is that the sales consultant did not take into consideration the old ducts (20+ years), which had to have the collars replaced to mate into the new plenum, due to thicker material required by current building code.
Description of Work: Bay Area A/C replaced a 9 year old 3 ton 10 SEER Frigidaire heat pump system with a 3 ton 15 SEER Carrier Performance Series A/C and Heat Pump Split System. We have a two-story home so the upstairs unit was replaced. The old air handler in the attic was removed and duct work was re-situated and updated to meet current building codes. The air handler was suspended from rafters and new copper drainline was installed. The heat pump was removed and the new one was installed outside on a pre-formed Quikrete base. A new thermostat was installed upstairs and a new breaker put into the breaker box. The unit now controls the humidity inside the second story, which we are still getting used to and trying to adjust to the proper feel.

They are very good. They do quality work. We bought a new air conditioning from them and it has been just superb. They do respond when you call. They take care of anything that we might need. Our electric bill was comparatively lower than our neighbors in the real cold weather. They have an excellent product. They are nice people to do business with.
Description of Work: Bay Area Air Conditioning & Heating did the yearly service call about a month or two ago. They also gave a quote for a new system for the addition that we are building.

I have been using Bay Area Air Conditioning & Heating for a long time. Overall, they are excellent. They are the only people that I have ever allowed to work on my air conditioner. The air conditioner that they replaced was 30 years old. I trust them explicitly. When they replaced my entire air conditioner; they had to rip everything out that was in my attic. They replaced it in an inside closet for me so that it is more accessible. They removed everything out of the attic and they cleaned everything. They were very courteous. They are not the cheapest people in town; but I think the price I paid was fair for what they did. If they do something for you and you have a problem and call them, they will come back and start from point A and go all the way to point Z and check it without any charge. It is really a great company. I really appreciate them. I would use them in the future too.

I put off getting an estimate on the new system until our old system actually died, as I feared the high cost of a new system and thought I'd have to get a high-interest personal loan or finance via credit card since I wasn't eligible for a home equity loan. I had also been told that I'd need to get all new ductwork, etc. I was afraid I'd have a hard time getting someone to come out and give an estimate on short notice, but Bay Area got me an estimate the next day....they were able to set me up with a 12-month zero-percent finance plan. Taking the high-efficiency rebate from the electric company and the tax credit, which together lowered the price to around $5,000, meant that instead of being stuck paying off a big loan over a couple of years, I'll have the whole thing paid off in a year at no interest. Plus, I qualified for a senior discount (though I'm not that old--it was either 50 or 55, I haven't seen one of those for under-65 in a while). Work took a bit longer than expected, but it was raining that morning which forced a late start. Also, being an old and somewhat quirky house meant the installation was bound to be trickier than normal. At any rate, they kept at it and finished in one day, which was all that mattered. The new system works great, the energy savings are amazing (the old system was really crap). I am so happy to have a high quality, high efficiency heating/cooling system, it's great not having to worry about breakdowns and high electric bills. I was amazed at how responsive Bay Area was, too, especially at the height of the summer season. Final note--after system was installed, I signed the forms and noticed the price seemed a bit higher (by a few hundred) than I expected....when I got out my estimate later, I realized that the senior discount was missing. I called the office about it and within a week received a check for the discount amount.
Description of Work: Replaced existing 3-ton cheap, inefficient heat pump system (compressor, air handler, thermostat, kept existing ductwork) with new high-efficiency Trane system in 1920s bungalow with half-finished attic. Work required cutting and replacing wallboard to access attic for air handler installation.

Our regular business hours are M-S from 8-5. Although we are one of the few HVAC companies that do offer Saturday Service, we cannot guarantee same day service to new customers, although we do guarantee same day service to all of our Warranty and Contract Customers, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. During our regular business hours our current customers get priority scheduling over any new customers. They have been loyal to us and we appreciate and respect this loyalty. On a hot summer day we can get very busy, even more so on a Saturday when we run with a staff reduced from our 22 regular Service Technicians to that of 5 on call Service Technicians. What the customer would have been told was that we were booked for the day – there are only so many hours in a day –and it would have to be the following Monday or, if the customer was willing, we could come out that day, but it would be at our after hours emergency rate. The customer chose to call someone else. To give an ‘F’ rating to someone you never used doesn’t seem accurate. If the Customer Service Representative that handled this call was in fact rude, we apologize for that. All of our CSR are trained to be professional, polite and courteous.

I moved into my new-construction home in the fall of 2002. The heating and cooling system had been installed by Senica Air Conditioning. (Please refer to my complaint filed under their name for further information regarding their poor performance.) It soon became apparent there was something terribly wrong with the cooling system of my new home. While my programmable thermostat was set at a constant 78?, the inside temperature would rise to 83? on an almost daily basis during the hot summer months. Over the course of the next five years, the original company attempted to correct the cooling issue. While the service trips were covered under warranty, each and every attempt to diagnosis the problem was met with negative results. After five years of dealing with enormous electric bills in the summer and frequent visits from Senica?s service technicians, Senica promptly announced they were no longer going to attempt to repair the unit as it was now ?out of warranty.? After being dumped by the original installer and having dealt with a non-functioning cooling system for five years, I contacted BAY AREA AIR CONDITIONING, INC. Within minutes of arriving at my home, BAY AREA had a tentative diagnosis. After a few hours of meticulously-performed diagnostic tests, which were performed at no charge to me, they confirmed their diagnosis. Oddly enough, there was nothing wrong with my cooling unit itself except it had been installed improperly. BAY AREA installed the proper size ductwork and re-stalled the air-handler after correcting the manner in which it was installed on the stand. After all the necessary adjustments were made, the cooling unit, for the first time EVER, was able to properly cool my home.. I cannot sing the praises of BAY AREA enough! They stepped up to the plate and took on another company?s problem. They recognized the issue and took the time to thoroughly diagnosis it. Their technicians showed up on time and as scheduled, and they even swept my garage clean after the repairs were completed. The repair estimate was right on the money, and I received follow-up calls to ensure the system was properly cooling. I would not hesitate to recommend BAY AREA to anyone who is looking for a new heating/cooling system or for repairs to their current system. BAY AREA AIR CONDITIONING, INC. has mastered the art of customer service and they have a customer for life!
Description of Work: BAY AREA AIR CONDITIONING, INC. made the necessary repairs to a non-functioning heating/cooling system that had been improperly installed by another company. The original company had provided five years of warranty work, but had been unsuccessful in their attempts to rectify the issue.

Bay Area Air Conditioning showed up the same night they were called to fix my problem, which with the heat in Florida is critical. Bay Area Air conditioning put a new unit in for me, maybe five years ago. I have them run a check on it annually. My experiences with Bay Area Air Conditioning have been very positive. They have been responsive. The technician is very knowledgeable. They don t try to sell me on things I don t need. When I call them with a specific problem, they will tell me if I should do something, but they aren t pushy. They let me make the final decision. I have a service contract with Bay Area Air Conditioning, so they will be coming back out.

It was a high quality experience. The technician walked me through all of the steps needed to inspect and correct the problems with the A/C unit. This technician was highly methodical and very professional.
Description of Work: They provided an inspection of work that was done from another A/C company. They checked all air pressure inside the air-handler and airflow. They took a reading of the Puron amount. They determined that the Puron in the system was 50% lower than what Carrier specifications needed. They also told me that in-line dryers were to be replaced every time the A/C lines are open. They added the necessary Puron, checked voltages, found a mistake in the wiring of the evaporator coil and added an in-line dryer.

My A/C is working great now. Glen was extremely personable despite the fact that it was a very hot day. He was so thorough in explaining everything to me. I was also quite impressed that he put shoe covers on before entering my house even though I told him it wasn't necessary. He worked very efficiently and really knew what he was doing. Bay Area should be proud to have him as an employee.
Description of Work: The fan on my A/C unit was not running and therefore I had to shut it off during a very hot night and day. Since it was a Sunday, I did not call them until Monday morning. Glen arrived at about 1:30 PM. He replaced the fan and thoroughly checked my outdoor unit. He had to add some refrigerant and then he even checked out my ducts and air handler in the attic and made some recommendations to improve air flow throughout the house. He checked the location of the returns in the house and recommended filters that would work best.

I interviewed five companies. Sales representative Harry Van Huis gave me the best price and the right equipment. He was very respectful and didn't treat me differently as a single woman homeowner. Other companies tried to sell me equipment I didn't need or gave me estimates that were as much as $3,000 higher. I also received two discounts for $225. The work would have gone more smoothly if the installation team hadn't lost a member to an earlier injury; instead, the two employees worked from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. They did have to return later to fix a couple of problems, but they were very prompt and worked with my schedule.

The problem was as simple as a blown fuse, but the rep. took the time to check for a short. At this point, we're assuming the fuse was just old and ready to go...
Description of Work: Came out late on a Sat. afternoon (considered an emergency call) and fixed the heater which was not working at my house. Although since it was considered an emergency call and therefore rather pricey, they did come out quickly and solved the problem, and were lower in price than others I checked on that afternoon.
