The service was great. Bad weather prevented the first scheduled visit. The company was quick to contact and reschedule. On date of service, technician was very professional and went straight to work. He took his time to troubleshoot and diagnose my issues. He taught me more than I could ask for about my own system. Highly impressed. I look forward to working with them again on the few recommend repairs.

They told me some parts were defected. I had to take them at their work. It ended up costing me $175 for them to fix this part which I'm a little dubious about. I asked him to reset the sprinkler for Thursday morning at 7:00 AM. He reset it for Thursday morning at 8:00 AM. The problem with that is people are walking by and the sprinklers are across the pavement. I called and asked if they would please send him by to reset it because I know they've been working around the corner from me on a landscaping project. They never came by and never called me back. They didn't follow-up. I thought the price was steep. I just can't imagine that part would cost me $175. I just felt skeptical about it.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for Greenstar Landscaping Irrigation & Tree Service. They came and inspected the sprinkler.

I bought a $100 certificate at Angies List, the owner came out and gave me two proposals to choose from. I was talked into picking the more expensive one since i was told I needed it. The work crew was pretty good, they arrived on time and seemed to know what they were doing. The crew wondered why i was replacing heads that were perfectly fine. I allowed them to continue since i was about to spend alot of money on landscaping and i wanted to make sure everything worked well for the new plants. The crew had a hard time finding the well to change the valve and added extra hours to the job. The owner wanted to charge alot more for the work due to the delay. I told him its not my problem they cant find the well. After breaking a few pipes searching for the well, they finally located it, I agreed to pay an extra $75 but thats it. Now that my landscape is installed, i see there are areas that are not covering the plants. Some nozzles are too low some too high. I also see a pipe that is over a large tree root that should have been relocated. It was like that when i got the estimate and thought it would be corrected. It was not. I will have to pay another company to come out and relocate the pipe before the root breaks through it. My experience with the owner was not pleasant.
Description of Work: Replace Pop-up Rotors with New Rainbird Pop-up Rotors and nozzles as needed. Repair any needed Breaks to PVC Piping. Relocation of Existing Heads as Needed and Adding New Heads as Needed to Maximize Coverage. Approximately +/- 2 Rainbird Rotors, +/- 2 Rainbird nozzles, a 220 Intermatic timer w/o rain sensor capability. 2” well head and screen 1 2” brass check valve

He quoted me at $500 for the work that there was a break in the line and an additional ~2ft line that needed to be added as well, he also replaced the head of the sprinkler. I asked about the $79, which was not included in the $500 job, he said it only covered him looking around and finding the possible work. They did fix the line and do the work, very satisfactorily except for not uncapping the line before leaving. They did come back to uncap it. I'm just upset that I paid $79 for a tuneup that mainly consisted of looking at potential work and taking several days to get them coming out.
Description of Work: I bought a $79 tuneup When Peter came out and looked he said there was work that needed to be done.

We contracted a sprinkler system tune-up special through Angie's List. He performed an extensive survey, but no tune-up and proposed additional work for which the cost would be $1000.00. He refused to provide a breakdown of parts vs. labor. When I reduced the scope of the work, he stated that the cost would still be the same! We decided to use a different provider and only for the repairs actually necessary.

This was a big deal purchase. They came out to the house and I thought it was something else. The guy made it seem like it was only a servicing-type thing and I thought it was to replace sprinkler heads and whatnot. That was money I never put towards anything. When he got there he realized a tune up was not what was needed -- that actually we were going to have to replace sprinkler heads and whatnot and that is was not worth the tune up so I did not do anything. He quoted a price of, like, $500 to $600, which obviously was a lot more than I had anticipated on spending. I thought it was just a matter of adjusting so I never went forward with any of it. He came out to the house around the time I bought the deal. He did not do any work for me.
Description of Work: He came out and gave me an estimate to replace all the sprinkler heads and he also wanted to re-direct one of the PVC lines.

I had previously used Greenstar for upgrading my sprinkler system in May 2014, and brought them back for the tree trimming job. The scheduling was very easy, and they arrived on time. The owner actually went to the house first, before the scheduling of the job, to review how many trees, how tall, etc., since the initial Special Deal that I bought did not include trimming very tall trees, and it only covered a few hours (if I recall, 4 hours.) The work needed in my house took most of the day, and included tall trees and bamboos, so ended paying more, but I thought the price was fair for the job done. I was very happy with the result, and would recommend Greenstar to anyone looking for landscaping.

From start to finish the project took approximately 6 weeks - on schedule. The working team was great and very friendly. Our project was a little out of the ordinary in that we wanted an environment that would entice monarch butterflies and pollinating bees which are all good for the environment. We already have two cocoons with one ready to hatch into a monarch butterfly any day now! We also wanted a variety of trees to provide berries and seed for birds. We also planted a pomegranate, starfruit and fig tree. Also a bay rum tree whose leaves smell delicious. There is fragrance throughout the entire front & back yard which is very pleasant. A raised bed garden was also installed with it's own irrigation - no more forgetting to water the garden! Peter gave us everything we wanted & more. We wanted a wow factor and we got it. We receive compliments from neighbors & strangers who happen to pass by the house. If you have the need for a landscape job, contact Greenstar , they are your one stop shop!
Description of Work: Prepped entire property for landscaping. Removal of all sod, lower level ornamental plants and palms. Removed & trimmed trees, installed new landscaping that included approx. 20 new trees and a couple hundred plants.

Ok, I suppose. His diagnosis was that my system is completely hosed and needs a complete rebuild. The home was built in early 1980's and it certainly had its flaws for how the irrigation system was designed, but $3.5K off-the-cuff verbal estimate for a complete overhaul was not really what I was looking for. And there really was no tune-up associated with this offer. Kind of like paying 30 bucks for someone to come over and telling you how bad your system is, and it has no hope. Turns out all was needed was some tweaking, which I did myself and that sufficed for what I was looking for. So am actually thankful for the hopeless tone of the diagnosis as it kind of inspired me to do it myself.

We had our system worked on several times and was never fixed properly. After seeing the reviews on Angie's List I gave Greenstar a call. Peter came out and inspected the system. He told us it would need to be replaced at a cost of $2500. At first we thought that was a little high, but after adding up how much we had put into it with disappointing results we agreed. We could not be more pleased. The crew was here every morning, working in the sweltering June heat and taking very few breaks. They were pleasant and professional. Theo was very patient with all my questions and when the job was completed, he walked me through the yard showing me how they should work and reminding me to call them is there was a problem. I would recommend highly Greenstar.

Peter responded to my inquiry quickly and provided a very detailed and accurate quotation. He coordinated the work with me very specifically to ensure work was done in advance of the bulk trash pickup day in my neighborhood. His crew completed the tree work in 1 day (and worked late to do so) and a second person returned the following week to grind the roots and stumps. Peter and his team did a great job, and I highly recommend them to other members.

My 3 sprinkler zones were changing fine before the service. They adjusted and replaced some sprinkler heads and then told me the K rain zone valve unit needed a new rubber diaphragm and really I needed to replace it- which they could do for an extra couple hundred plus dollars. I said since it was working fine to just change the rubber diaphragm and not the whole unit. They left with my $20 tip to each worker- the owner was not present during the work but the guys were on the phone with him often. A few days later, I realized something wasn't right with the system. I wasn't changing zones! Very odd it had been fine up until their service visit. So I called and the owner. He said now it would cost me an extra $50 to change out that unit. I was furious and not trusting of the whole situation - the coincidence of the breakdown. So I took it apart, didn't see anything and put it back together. And it worked. Hmmm. Also, for the $32 I paid to angies list turned out to be the cost of the owner coming out to tell me it would really cost me in the thousands wanting to redo almost the whole system, then I told him I could not do that the price finally came down to $400-500 for tweaking. I asked what the $32 was for and he said him to come out and give the estimate. Don't companies do that for free?? It wasn't even applied to the service.

They Say No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. At Greenstar Irrigation we take pride in offering our clients the highest possible quality service and we try our best to accommodate and meet all of our potential and existing client’s needs. This customer bought an Angie's list Big Deal, which covers the following items: inspection of sprinkler system, check for breaks in the lines, check for damaged heads, check pump station and master zone valve, and check and set timer. Within a couple days of this client purchasing the deal, I was personally at the property surveying and inspecting the system in great detail. The system was very old and was in need of a lot of repairs and upgrades. I had recommended to this customer to do a total redo, which usually involves installing new heads throughout the property and relocating heads for maximum coverage. The initial price I gave this customer was higher than they were willing to invest at the time due to the fact that they were selling the house. She agreed with me that there were lots of issues with the system and agreed that the system could use an upgrade, however, she decided that she would leave that for the next owner. I asked what the maximum budget was and told her that I would try to figure out some way to help improve the existing coverage. She stated she could spend a maximum of $500. I told her I would be able to accommodate that but I would have to do this work on a slow day and I would call a day in advance to arrange the work. The customer was very excited that I would do her this favor by accommodating her since I was doing the work for a lot less than originally proposed. Within a week or two the work was completed, however, the initial budget of $500 was not met since the areas of concern actually required less work than originally agreed upon so the total bill was only $400, not the $500 initially agreed upon. The client was made aware from the beginning that there was an issue with the zone valve periodically sticking on the same zone and not changing from zone to zone. This was not happening all the time it was happening intermittently. As work progressed, it started sticking more often. I gave the client the option to replace the zone valve when we were at the property performing the irrigation work for a discounted price of $200 (this was a savings of an additional $100). The customer said ‘No, I will leave it for the next owner, it only does this every now and again, it’s ok’. I told the customer that I could service the zone valve and replace the diaphragm (at no additional cost) in hopes of rectifying the issue, once again trying to accommodate the client as best I could. Once work was completed, the customer inspected the system, signed off on the invoice, paid in full and tipped the crew. The customer was very happy with everything that was completed and even happier that only $400 was spent as opposed to the $500 agreed upon. Not only that but they tipped every employee working there that day. Does this sound like you somebody that was unhappy with the work? Would you tip somebody if you were unhappy?

Shattered dreams, expectations and a lesson well learned. This customer had purchased an Angie's List Big Deal Comprehensive Tune-up for $79.95. This customer was scheduled and serviced within a few days of buying the big deal. I, Peter, owner of Greenstar Landscaping and Irrigation, personally went out to the residence for this service call. The customer had indicated that he had his guys repair the out line, (the line going from the pump to the electrical valves which provides water throughout the zones). I said ‘Your guys? What do you do?’ He indicated that he was owner and operator of one of the largest plumbing supply contractors in the United States of America. I must admit I was star struck and now all kinds of expectations are running through my mind. I looked at him, I look at the house, I looked at the pump and said to myself - wow this could be me one day. I was also extremely flattered that this guy would call on me, my company, to diagnose and solve his irrigation problems. I was wowed, I can learn a lot from a guy like this, I thought to myself. And thus the lesson began. I examined the pump and both the in and the out line. One of my observations was that I didn't like how these lines were plumbed. I showed him all my recommendations and we agreed on a price. Since the out line was clearly blown off there was no way to check the rest of the system during this service call (the first of four). Within 24 to 48 hours my service team arrived and the repair was performed and completed. I knew there had to be another problem there because I was sure his guys had properly glued the pipes together. After closer inspection and going over a list of items that could cause this problem I concluded that the customer’s digital timer/system only had four zones yet his timer was set for six. This means the pump was running and building up pressure with nowhere to go and so it blew out the out line. We set the timer for the proper zones and reset the days and times. I explained this problem to him. He was impressed and satisfied with what we had accomplished so far. Once the system was up and running my crew began to inspect all the heads throughout the property. Many breaks were located and a large amount of the heads needed to be relocated and replaced. This was briefly pointed out and explained to the homeowners. I told the customers that I would schedule a second appointment with them and again I would personally go out to inspect and flag the entire property. Once I did that I would be able to furnish them a detailed proposal on exactly what needed to be done. I believe that the customer’s were not present when I flagged the property and so I wasn’t able to go over everything in detail so I scheduled a third appointment. During this appointment I went over everything in detail with both the husband and the wife. I indicated to them that since they had recently expanded the size of the driveway and added new walkways throughout the property that the footprint of the hard-scape, (driveway and walkways) was altered, meaning that their existing system needed to be redesigned and the heads needed to be relocated to provide maximum coverage. In addition, there were several breaks in a line along the west side of the property where large trees had grown over these lines. This same issue existed in the back yard as well for they had recently installed a multitude of new plants and therefore the footprint of the landscaping and back yard design had changed and so the irrigation system would also have to change. I gave them a price and explained all of this in detail. They indicated to me that they felt the price was quite high so I gave them alternatives as well, what I call ‘Band-Aids’. They asked me to give them some time to think about everything and they paid me for all the services that were rendered up to that time. If there was an issue with anything up to this point why did they give me a check paid in full? About a week or two later the customer had called me once again for the fourth appointment to go over everything in detail once more. She told me she didn't want to spend $4000 on re-doing the entire system. I explained to her, in my professional opinion, that by fixing a few things here and there would just be a big waste of money. I highly recommended doing a total re-do of the entire system and doing everything at one time (doing it right the first time). Yes, there was always the option of spending $1K - $2K for a Band-Aid but eventually everything would have to be done anyway. At this time the customer indicated to me that she had bought the Comprehensive Tune-up (which included adjustments) and not the normal irrigation tune-up and diagnostic. I indicated to her that was an oversight on my part and had no problem refunding her the difference since there was nothing to adjust. At that point she said ‘that's fine you had really spent a lot of time here so let's just call it even’. Once again if this would've been an issue why was I paid in full? I was very hurt and surprised to see this F grade since during all four visits I was always kind, professional and courteous, and so was my crew and my office manager (in getting the appointments scheduled quickly and following up). Going even beyond that, the fact that we had diagnosed the problem for the very beginning should have been taken into account. So it seems at the end of all this, my idol shattered my dreams and expectations but it appears that he did teach me a lesson. The lesson being that even though you can diagnose and solve someone's problems, some customers just can't handle the truth in what needs to be done to their irrigation system. And apparently they will go out of their way to lie and give you a bad grade on Angie's list even though you provided the highest quality of service possible and were always professional and honest with them. Lesson well learned. Peter Masi, Owner Greenstar Landscaping Co.

This was originally a special deal through Angie's List. It took a couple of weeks to get them out here but it was during the Easter season. Peter came here during a time when my husband could meet with him. Our irrigation system was installed when we built our home in 1996. My husband has been fixing the individual heads over the years. Peter offered us two deals: $1500 for a "bandaid repair" and $2500 for a complete overhaul with a warranty (this included any Angie's list discounts). We decided that it was time for a complete overhaul. We agreed to a date and a crew of 4-6 men came early and left late. They worked all over our yard replacing every sprinkler head (about 40) of various sizes. There was one problem with a broken line under some tree roots. It was late and they hadn't gotten it completed but said they would come back to fix it. We went ahead and gave them a check for $2,500. (He preferred the check over the credit card but said he would take a credit card if necessary.) I started to worry that we might not see them again but two men came back for two more days during the same week until they got the line working properly. Since then one head wasn't working properly and they came out and repaired it.

Actually I am grading the person that came to do the service and not the company. The company made a few mistakes as well but the girl was very nice and polite. The person that came to my house was rude, no patience and all he wanted was for me to decide to change a few things with a cost of over 200 dollars I think. I told him that I had done all the changes the year before with the same company. He was in a bad mood and I was the one that slept less than 3 hours to accommodate his schedule. It was a very bad experience.

I called you from the front gate and you did not answer. I phoned my office manager and she informed me that you were probably sleeping. I acquired the gate code from a neighbor to gain access. I inadvertently assumed that the house on the corner was the correct house and after knocking on the door and getting no response, I thought it best not to wake you and so instead began the irrigation tune-up and diagnostic. I ended up spending 40 minutes there before attempting to call you again, which is when I realized I was at the wrong house. After coming to this realization, I was upset with myself and embarrassed from the start. Once at your residence, I spoke with you about the issues and problems you were having with the system and then proceeded to perform the irrigation tune-up and diagnostic. After explaining the results to you, I spent an additional 20-30 minutes going through all the zones in detail with you. Every time I said something to you or recommended something, it was being questioned or contested. It is true that I grew frustrated with the situation because I always have the best interests of my customer in mind and felt bad about the situation as I was doing my best to explain everything to you but felt I wasn’t getting anywhere. Aside from producing quality craftsmanship, my ultimate goal is total customer satisfaction, and I feel very badly that this was your takeaway from our second interaction. I hope we can continue our business relationship in the future. Thank you, Peter Masi, Owner

Once I was able to connect with Greenstar, the work was done in a timely & professional manner. Would use this company again.
Description of Work: Comprehensive sprinkler tune up ($79.00) . We cleaned and serviced the zone valve and it is functioning properly now. We set the timer to the proper time (days of watering) and duration of watering. There are about a half dozen heads that need to be flushed and/or replaced and a large of amount of heads that need to be straightened. We are also adding one additional pop-up in planter bed by front entrance. The total cost for this is $300.

Peter was extremely knowledgable, professional and quick. He came out on the weekend and was willing to work with my schedule which i really appreciated. He was honest and I didn't feel like I was getting sold something i didn't need. Overall very happy with the quality and price of the service and would use them again.
Description of Work: The provider came out and replaced the sprinkler heads and moved some of the location of the sprinklers so that all areas of my lawn would get even water.
