The repair man came when promised, he was very professional. After taking a look at my unit he determined that a new part was needed. He showed me the faulty part and I could see it was distorted. He was able to pick up the new piece locally and finish the job the same day. He also informed me what everything would cost before getting the part. No surprise charges at the end. He inspected my indoor unit as well.

Description of Work: I call on a Saturday morning for some problems I had with my breaker box due to severe storms and I was told for a Saturday estimate u would have to pay overtime and a minimum of 2 hours for the estimate only came out to $260 dollars. Yes $260 just to look at it and tell me what was wrong. Outrageously expensive for a 15 min estimate to pay for 2 hours minimum. I hung up, no thank you I don't need to be raked through the coals. Be careful with them.

Description of Work: I purchased a high end air conditioner from Ed Helms less than one year ago. It came with a one year warranty on parts and labor. The warranty also required that in order for the warranty to be valid, regular maintenance needed to be performed on the A/C. (In fact, I had used a Angie's List coupon to have the A/C serviced by Boyden Air Conditioning earlier in the month.) I called Ed Helms on Oct. 4, 2012 to report that there was water coming out of one of the HVAC vents, and that my A/C was under warranty. I was very clear that I was seeking a service call under warranty. A technician came the next day. He turned up the fan and said that that might resolve the problem. Then he said he needed to go to his truck to do "some paperwork." He came back with a bill for $94.00, which included a written statement that my warranty was voided because I had engaged Boyden to service the A/C. I called the company was told that my warranty was voided because I had had the unit serviced by another vendor. (The warranty does not require that the A/C be serviced or maintained by Ed Helms, merely that it be regularly serviced and maintained.) The company also told me that the service call was for "diagnostic" purposes, not under warranty. I argued that the warranty does not require that Ed Helms perform regular maintenance on the A/C, so the warranty is not voided. The company representative rudely told me that they would never service my A/C again and I did not pay the bill.

Description of Work: They were punctual and the repair work did not take long. Adam diagnosed the problem immediately and replaced the "capacitor". He explained that being our unit is very old, it is commonplace for this piece to burn out. He also told me that cleaning coils in future would not be worthwhile because of the age of the unit. I appreciated his honesty. I would use them again. :)

Description of Work: My gardener hit my air conditioning wiring and blew a fuse---when I called them it was after 6:00 and they told me there would be a $150.00 charge and that would be applied to the service----when the repair man arrived he said that a fuse was blown and called the company--they charged me $263.70---when I said it was very high for a fuse they said they were keeping the $150.00----so I went ahead----the repairman recommended that I replace the low voltage wire---when I asked him if he would do that he said it would cost more than the $263.70--he was here 5-10 minutes replacing the fuse and I payed $263.70----two and a half days later the air conditioning stopped working and I called them---they said I now needed to replace the low voltage wire and that would be $673.00 to run the wire--I asked them for a credit since my air conditioning had only worked for 2 1/2 days and they said no but the $673.00 included a 10% discount! I said no---I called another company not on your list and they were prompt and did the job including adding new insulation for $300.00. I would never use Ed Helms again and recommend no one else does.

Description of Work: A service person came to my condo to evaluate my AC unit. An initial diagnosis was made and taken care of by the building's maintanance team. When the problem returned two days later, I asked the service person to return. In between this days, I had to call the company to find out what the problem was--the technician didn't call me to let me know what kind of service the AC unit, which I found frustrating. Upon returning the second time, the recommended cleaning was done (after I gave verbal permission) and everything worked. My credit card was charged, but I received no follow up phone call or invoice with what kind of service was performed--again something I found frustrating. I'm not sure what exactly was done to the unit (my tenant said it was "cleaned") because no one has called to talk to me about it.

Description of Work: Excellent work! Had them come out to install security light outside of my home, the electrician was knowledgable, Efficient and clean. He worked quickly fixing the issues needed to get the job done, Cleaned up after him self. Great company, I will be using them again.
