Description of Work: I called Edd Helms, A/C Repair for my a/c machine. The gentleman who came was clean and neat. He checked the unit, found the problem and corrected it. He was an excellent representative of his company. I would recommend Mr. Goodman {the repair man} and the company with all high marks.

Description of Work: This company came out here, spent a good 45 minutes checking both AC units. When they were finished, there was no follow up, just a request for a check. I contacted them almost 2 weeks later to find out where this estimate I had paid for had gone. I got nothing but the run around from the main office. This company lacks in professionalism and follow through.

Its tough to follow up with a customer when you call and they hang up the phone on you. Customer originally called to report her AC units installed in 1994 were performing poorly and she wanted us to send a technician. We quoted the customer our flat rate diagnostic fee of $94 per system, and explained that included no repairs but it would include a written diagnosis of what we find and we would provide a quoted repair price. Customer agreed and we sent our technician. Our service technician worked for 2.5 hours to determine the causes for poor performance. He reported that both systems were badly deteriorated, with very dirty evaporator coils (thats the air handler inside the home), and we strongly recommended replacement of both systems so not to have the customer spend good money trying to repair equipment badly deteriorated. The technician also advised the customer that if they could not replace the systems, at the very least she could have the evaporator coils cleaned as a temporary repair with no warranty by Edd Helms. On Dec. 20th the Customer declined to make any repairs and signed the service ticket acknowledging the diagnostic work had been satisfactorily performed. A few days later our sales dept called her to follow up and see if she wanted to have us send a salesman, but the customer hung up on us. We wish we could satisfy every customers and regret that we were unable to in this case. However, it would have been dishonest if we had told the customer anything else with her equipment, it made no sense for her to put money into things this badly deteriorated.

Description of Work: I called for an estimate and found that they charge $92.00 for an estimate which I felt was extremely high. Although I was told that if choosen the estimate cost is applied to the total bill. Given the state of the economy, paying to have multiple estimates to ensure you are getting a fair price simply is not good customer service.

We regret disappointing anyone. We charge a nominal fee for electrical estimates and apply the fee toward the price of the job if we are hired. It is hard to explain that just because a customer gets multiple estimates, they are not assured of getting a fair price. Some customers believe that "Nothing says quality like low price". All contractors do not provide the same high quality of work provided by Edd Helms Electric. Larger electrical projects over $5000 can qualify for free estimates, but small electrical jobs are better handled as service calls with quoted fixed price repairs performed on the spot. Low price Contractors are notorious for quoting cheap prices and then asking for extra's which increase the price once the work is started. This customer insisted we were obligated to give her a free estimate because she was an Angie's List customer, which is not correct. Our special offer to Angie's List customers is 10% off Labor Charges. I hope the Member reconsiders Edd Helms Electric when she decides to have future electrical work performed. Description of Work: I called to get a quote for a AC Condenser relocation. They wanted $94 for a estimate that everyone else offered for free. I am not spending $94 have them quote me more than anyone else. I guess in this down economy, they don't need BUSINESS!

Nothing says quality like a low price to some customers. We regret ever disappointing anyone. We offer free estimates for new or replacement central AC systems, but not for repairs as this customer was requesting. Having worked in Coral Gables for more than 35 years, most condensing units cannot simply be relocated due to strict building and zoning ordinances requiring the units to be virtually invisible to neighbors using hedges, privacy screens, etc. Just the permit process alone in Coral Gables is stringent. Hope is satisfied with whomever he hires when all is completed.
