This project is the best experience I've ever had using contractors in Miami. I called Andrew Palmer Roofing for an estimate and spoke to Andrew's nephew, Jon Palmer. I advised him I was going to get a few estimates. Jon was very cordial, arrived for the estimate when we had scheduled, then followed up with a phone call every week or so during the month it took me to gather my estimates. These calls were not intrusive or obnoxious, just a polite "checking in to see if you have any further questions" which told me they wanted the job. And I did occasionally have more detailed questions once into the entire process and offered various options from other potential roofers. The cost estimate given was neither the lowest nor the highest. I didn't choose because of the Angie's List Coupon for $250 off, but it didn't hurt and they did honor that discount. We were considering a different kind of roof covering, using GAF UnderRoof rather than the traditional toxic and smelly black tar so I wanted to do some research on this (other than online and calling the manufacturer). Jon provided me with names and phone numbers of their customers who had used the product AND gave me a few addresses of nearby homes I could drive by, one with the UnderRoof just being installed. I was able to speak to others, see the product as it was going on and the finished roof with the tiles over it. (It hasn't been in use residentatially here for 10 years, so no way to confirm how long it will last). One of my concerns, was that during the roof installation, if I had a question, would there be anyone around who spoke English (since this is Miami and unfortunately, I'm not bilingual). Jon advised me that typically there is someone on the job who speaks English but also gave me his cell number on the spot and said to call him with any questions. We signed a contract in February 2012. A mildly disappointing, yet understandable, concern was that - because they are so popular and they won't just hire extra crews of unproven workers - even when contracting during a relatively dry time in South Florida, the company still anticipated an 8-10 week waiting period. The work began the first week of May 2012 (the rainy season). From day one, everything was done exactly as I was advised and I WAS kept updated regarding the work completed and next steps and whether to anticipate a loud work day the next day (so I could leave). Jon Palmer typically stopped by once or twice a day to check on the progress. One day, when I had a concern and called him, literally while I was on the phone with him he had contacted the foreman at my home who rang my doorbell to answer my question. Wow. The company was professional and timely in getting each required inspection during the process so that the work could continue smoothly. We had a couple of rain delays and even though I was advised that there were enough layers that there would be no leaks, they were nice enough to put plastic sheeting anyway to make me feel better. After an initial deposit, payments were collected as each step in the process was completed, with the final payment after the final inspection. Our contract did include 100 feet of replacement wood, but I was advised that there may be an extra charge for additional wood if more was found rotted once the old roof was removed. This proved to be the case and we were charged almost $1,000 more (I knew they'd get back that $250 Angie's List discount...). We had had several leaks with our former roof, so I was not surprised, but be aware of this potential added cost beyond the original estimate (with any company). The crew did pick up debris each day and took it away in their truck. They got about 90% of the roofing nails/tin caps before leaving. But once the job was finished, I did purchase a long magnet and went around outside a few different times to pick up others that landed in hidden areas. It's a precaution I think is necessary so no one, especially pets, steps on nails. Once the roof was completed, Jon was able to refer a good company for gutters (which had to be removed before installing the new roof). And if painting is needed, Palmer also has a separate division that handles that - Palmer and Faria Painting. I haven't gotten that far yet. Overall, I cannot speak highly enough about Andrew Palmer Roofing. I recommend them to everyone. Jon Palmer was particularly responsive, friendly and professional in answering all questions, addressing concerns, and keeping us informed of progress and schedules. Their price was definitely in the ballpark with others and our white tile roof looks great. It has been almost a year since our roof was finished and so far so good. Will have to let you know in 10 years or possibly after a Hurricane just how well the UnderRoof performs.

I got 4 different companies to give price estimates on repairing one problem area on my roof. I chose Palmer even though they were the most expensive because they gave the most professional, educated, informative, and detailed description of the problem and repair when I got the estimate. The "front end" part of the experience was great. Unfortunately, the "back end" portion was just average. After calling to agree to the quote, the company deducted a little from their original quote when I told them they were over everyone else's quote. This was a nice gesture. (This still put them at the upper end of the quotes I received.) I paid half the price up front. Unfortunately, I needed to call the company several times afterward to arrange a date to come do the repair. I wouldn't say that I felt entirely forgotten or that the company shirked its responsibility, but I do feel like the company was less responsive after getting my initial deposit. After about 2 weeks of calling the company -- they returned some of my calls, but not all -- I got a tentative date scheduled. They called the day before to say they would be out the next day, but no one showed up on that day. The following day they showed up and completed the repair. The finished product looks good and professional. No complaints with the final job. Time will tell with the quality of the job. In summary, I am happy with the finished product. My only regret is that I feel like I paid for "platinum" and got "gold" quality work with "silver" quality service.

these workers are perfectionists. They made suggestions along the way for problem areas. Considerate of my time and schedule. Performed rotten wood removal and exterior painting. Costs were itemized and explained completely.

They sent a very pleasant young man; I think he was the owner's son, who came out and checked everything. He could not find anything in the roof and said from time to time, sometimes, it just happens one time and then clears itself. He said if it happens again to give him a call. He did not charge me for the service call. We have not had any rain since he came out so I don't know if the issue is resolved.

We have an old house by South Florida standards so we are constantly worried about the roof leaking. We had a big problem and the roofer who used to do our work went out of business. I selected several roofers from Angie's list and asked all three for estimate. They were all about the same but A. Palmer seemed to know roofing for old houses and we are very satisfied. The job started and ended on time and on budget.

I had two skylights removed, and the roof put back in it's original condition. I was very happy with the service. It took a while to get going, but it was not their fault. They had other jobs in front of mine, and weather was an issue, but they kept me informed. Once they arrived, they addressed my concerns, and even pointed out some things I had not thought of. Once they started work, they finished quickly, and I am happy with the quality. Also, the work was permitted, and there were no issues. I would recommend using them. Check out my review on Rodman Roofing - my experience was completely different.

He was very thurough in his estimate and was very personable.

We had moved into our new home the week of Hurricane Isaac; it was our first home and very exciting. We new the roof was old--the inspector told us we could probably get about 3 years out of it--but we did not expect a leak into our dining room the first weekend! Thank goodness we had Angies List! We looked up several roofers and received estimates for both repairs and replacement. We had an estimate lower than A. Palmer (not by too much, obviously) but A. Palmer seemed by far to be the most professional--and did not subcontract any of the work. Because we knew our roof was very old we were able to negotiate extra tongue and groove to be included into the contract. We were also installing exhaust fans in the bathroom and I was not going to be able to complete that project before the roof was going to be replaced and did not want to cut holes in the new roof to vent the bathroom as I am sure I would end up causing a leak that would need to be fixed so Jon Palmer was able to include in the contract that they install the roof vents for my exhaust fans. Jon was very professional, friendly, and very helpful in making sure this process went extremely smoothly. He personally stopped by several times throughout the process to make sure things were going as planned and up to my expectations. Andrew Palmer also stopped by one morning to assure everything was set for the inspector. All went according to plan or better except for two things: 1) they needed to replace more tongue and groove than anticipated (this is of course no fault to A. Palmer--I'm pretty sure my roof was pre-Hurricane Andrew so it made sense that plenty was going to be in need of replacing) and with that Jon worked with me to keep that cost to a minimum, and 2) the shingles for the new roof were not ordered in time, a slight hiccup that set them back a day (the reason for the lower grade in promptness). Altogether they were completed within a week with inspections and all! I would definitely hire them again and will need to do my flat roof at some point, so I know who I am calling!

Jon Palmer provided me with an estimate. He was polite, knowledgeable and professional. I chose to go with another provider as his estimate was 40% higher than two other quotes. I would have used them if their price was more competitive.

Nothing negative to say - they delivered a superior product on time, within budget and without any fuss. My friend who is an architect watched them work every day and said that they did a fine job.

They were great. They diagnosed the problem with the skylight and will fix the problem once the rain stops. They were very responsive.

The project took off in a timely manner. They started when they said they would. Jose visited every few days along with Andy, the owner of A Palmer Roofing. They were happy to answer my questions and concerns at all times. Additionally, their project manager was very friendly and also very helpful in answering my questions. When APR worked on the flat roof, they worked together with the A/C company as the A/C unit was repositioned on the flat roof. APR sealed each leg at the bottom to ensure no leakage. Regarding the flat roof, we decided to use the sloping panels on the flat roof and to date, it does a great job moving water away from the house and off the roof.Overall, A. Palmer Roofing is a very professional company and I applaud their quality roofing services. Thank you!

My sole issue with this company was the late start of the work. Our initial deposit was at the very beginning of March and the work did not start until May. My concern was quickly brought to the forefront when the rainy season started in earnest; early. In hindsight I feel the company simply underestimated the amount of work they had. Roofing jobs have exploded in South Florida due to requirements by Citizens Insurance. Beyond that, the work done was as expected. Our job included the complete replacement of rood tiles, paper, rotted plywood and replacement of all the facia around the house. All the old materials were removed and taken away. Our facia was removed and replaced with pressure treated boards. We did not talk about that. In addition to using pressure treated wood, they took the time to prime the wood prior to installation. I am very happy about that when one considers the amount of rain that has fallen this season. Once the removal was completed, the work progressed without a hitch....with the exception of continual interruptions because of rain. Mother nature did her very best to prolong the length of this job. There was only one unexpected expense and after discussing it with the company an agreement was easily reached. I highly recommend this company. The quality of the work is excellent. It is refreshing to work with people who have and use common sense. Communication was great. The clean up was great. The price for the work performed was very competitive. I doubt it will be necessary to use them again as I expect this roof will last longer than the last one; but if it turn out that I do need a roofer.....they will quickly get the call.

After signing the contract there was a considerable delay before work began because the company is a busy one. They were not cheap, but they came highly recommended by Angie's list. Once underway, the work went smoothly and professionally. No complaints.

I was very impressed from the beginning which started with an estimate from Jon Palmer who was knowledgeable and very professional. The workers were prompt and neat, especially the tile installers and Jaime who did the necessary painting, I called him an "artist". Jose of Faria Painting was equally professional and knows his field very well. Both companies were very attentive and addressed the few of my concerns with understanding and with a determination to make sure the customer is happy. My husband and I love our beautiful new roof and recommend A. Palmer Roofing and Faria Painting Corp. Thank you Jon, Andrew, Jose, Jaime and all!

We are utmost happy with our choice of a roofing company. We have asked for quotes from several roofers with great references but have chosen A. Palmer Roofing for a number of important reasons ... First and foremost, they were most forthcoming about the job, options, and what would it cost. They were extremly professional in handling assessment and quoting the job. They took the time and effort to explain in detail what would it take to complete the job and how different options compare. We have several neighbors who have done a similar work just weeks before we contracted with Palmer so not only they have left first good impression, we had several neighbor friends to vouch for the quality of work and professionalism of the crew. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. Palmer handled the job great, provided number of disocunts to help us manage to cost given additional work needed to be done due to termites. They also did their best to make the deadlines despite the rainy season we have experienced. When we needed additional work unrelated to roofing, Palmer was very helpful in providing other referrals that we used to our satisfaction. Finally at the time of inspection, we were pleased to learn from Miami-Dade inspectors that we are in good hands with A Palmer Roofing who have been in business for a long time and who are known to preform quality work. Inspection went with no problems and timely as Palmer did their best to schedule inspectors just as the work was being completed. Upon completion of the work we did have a minor issue that Palmer promptly sent the crew out to fix it at no charge to us. All in all, dealing with Palmer people both in the office and on the job was great experience. We gladly recommend their services to our friends and will used them again if need be.

From the estimate, which was explained in great detail, to the start of our new roof, to the completion (which was on time) the service was impecable. These guys know roofing and we discovered they really know the hurricane codes of South Florida. What I really liked about them was the fact that the owner would offer every possibility and other options for us to consider. He also explained in detail what they were doing in great details. Plus, they cleaned up their mess as they went along! (another rare event in Miami)

We discovered multiple leaks in our roof approximately one year after purchasing our home. We contacted A. Palmer Roofing who responded promptly and scheduled an appointment to provide a free estimate. A company representative physically inspected the roof and provided a thorough assessment including options to either repair portions of the 20 year old roof or replace the entire roof. We elected to replace the entire roof. The estimate for the repair was reasonable and in line with multiple other estimates from other companies. However, it was the professionalism and company history that motivated us to hire A. Palmer Roofing. The job was completed in a timely manner with no delays associated with permitting, delivery of materials or county inspections. Although the work was completed almost 4 years, we recently contacted A. Palmer Roofing to complete a roofing questionnaire and certificate to provide to our property insurance company. The company promptly responded and provided the necessary paperwork at no charge. The questionnaire and certificate completed based on the work performed by the company was extremely useful and likely saved us from a huge increase to our property insurance premium.

The entire process was very professional; they always showed up on time, form appointment for the estimate to the actual roof installation. The installers did a very good job, cleaned up every day and finished on schedule. Their price was not the lowest but “you get what you pay for”, they did a quality job. I am very satisfied.

I found them on Angie’s list, and i selected them because they had the better rating. What I liked about them is that they came and inspected my roof, and there was nothing to do with the roof as the roof was fine, so I really liked the fact that they were honest and they told me that I didn’t need to do anything for now, so I appreciated that and they didn’t charge me anything. We didn’t get to anything related to cost, so I cannot rate their price. They were prompt. They were professional. I really felt like I could trust them if I ever have a problem.

I have used the Palmer family of roofers since the 1980's. The original owner died but his shingle roof has lasted for over 30 years. It never leaked but on inspection, the tiles had dried out so I decided to re-roof "before" there were any problems. There are now 2 companies within the same family. I used Andrew because of the ratings on Angie's List. Polite, prompt, and very nice to work with; any phone call to them was answered or returned immediately. They worked with my schedule and were a pleasure to work with, leaving very little for me to clean up (as my Fl. oak trees were dropping all their leaves, it was hard for them to spot every tiny piece.)

Jose and his team organized all the permitting and started right on time on the day we agreed on. His crew was professional and respectful of my property, and cleaned up the job site thoroughly at the end of each work day. They finished on time, with no issues. With my new roof, my house sold withing a week! A. Palmer honored the transfer of the roof warranty for the new homeowners. Joann in the office at A. Palmer was a pleasure to work with. This company is professional, courteous and stands by their word and work. I highly recommend them.

They were very professional but I found them a little bit pricey. Everything went well. The price was really not the best for me. I would contact them again if they wanted to lower the price.

I DECIDED TO PLACE A NEW METAL ROOF CONVERTING FROM TILE ROOF TO METAL IN ORDER TO HAVE MORE PROTECTION FROM HURRICANES, LEAKS, AND IMPROVED ENERGY EFFICIENCY. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THE END RESULT. THIS WAS A MAJOR INVESTMENT FOR MY LARGE 5000 SQ FT + HOME. I INTERVIEWED 4 HIGHLY RATED AND RECOMMENDED ROOFING COMPANIES BEFORE SELECTING A PALMER. ALL 4 QUOTES WERE WITHIN $5000 SO THE DECISION WAS NOT BASED ON PRICE. I ULTIMATELY SELECTED THEM BASED ON MY INTERVIEW AND THE FACT THAT THEY HAD THE MOST EXPERIENCE WITH METAL ROOFS. THE WORK WENT AMAZINGLY SMOOTH - WORKERS WERE EFFICIENT AND NEAT. THERE WAS ONE UNEXPECTED SURPRISE: WATER DAMAGE AND SEVERELY DAMAGED WOOD THAT WAS FOUND. SOME OF THIS REQUIRED CONSTRUCTING A NEW SCAFFOLDING WHICH COULD HAVE REQUIRED HIRING AN OUTSIDE CONTRACTOR. A. PALMER HAD EXPERIENCE IN CONSTRUCTION AND WERE ABLE TO PERFORM THE WORK THEMSELVES, WITH PERMITS AND TO A STRICT MIAMI BEACH CODE, SAVING ME TIME, HEADACHES, AND MONEY. THE ROOF ENDED UP LOOKING BEAUTIFUL - THERE WAS OUTSTANDING ATTENTION TO DETAIL. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, THERE WAS EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION. I WOULD LIKE TO ESPECIALLY THANK JOSE FERIA WHO WAS THE LEADER THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT - THE ONE I DEALT WITH FROM BEGINNING TO END. HE IS AN EXCELLENT COMMUNICATOR, ALWAYS AVAILABLE, AND ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL LIKE MY SATISFACTION WAS HIS UTMOST PRIORITY. I CANNOT OVERSTATE HOW GOOD THE EXPERIENCE WAS KNOWING VERY WELL HOW POTENTIALLY PAINFUL IT COULD BE. THE MIAMI BEACH INSPECTORS WHO ARE QUITE STRINGENT WERE THEMSELVES IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE WORK. AFTER NOW LIVING WITH THE NEW ROOF FOR ALMOST A YEAR, I CAN TELL YOU I AM VERY HAPPY I WENT WITH A METAL ROOF. MY AC BILL HAS GONE DOWN ALOT AND I FEEL REALLY CONFIDENT WHEN IT RAINS. I AM SO CONFIDENT WITH WIND PROTECTION, I DECIDED TO DROP MY EXORBITANT WIND INSURANCE ALTHOUGH I AM CERTAINLY NOT ADVOCATING THIS TO OTHERS. PALMER ROOFING IS AN OUTSTANDING COMPANY - I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I SELECTED THEM.

My old roof was concrete barrel tile. Roof sixe 2,200 square feet. Had 3 separate minor leaks which were caused by underlayment and timber decay. Got bids from 5 highly rated roofing companies. A. Palmer's bid stood head and shoulders above the others. If roof timbers or underlayment are decayed or rotten they must be replaced before the new tile goes on. My home required extensive wood replacement. Pricing and quality of installation was excellent. (I've done interior/exterior carpentry for 50 years, am retired and watched closely every day of the re-roof). Communication with on site Lead is easy as is speaking with the contractor's office. Dependable and professional. NOTE: I delayed writing this until 1) we had a ton of rain on the new roof and 2) to see if the new roof leaked. Well, 1) we had a ton and 2) it didn't.
