About us

Blue Horizons was founded in 1993 with a specific goal in mind. Being consumers ourselves, we always wanted to be convinced that there is a sense of confidence and security before entering into an agreement with any company. We felt the most effective way to accomplish this was to first implement a solid foundation. Integrity first and foremost should always be the most important part of any business foundation. In addition, striving to continually improve on customer communication, and a commitment to always insure a higher standard of a completed product. As a result, we are very grateful this has not only allowed Blue Horizons to excel and become a trusted name in the Central Florida community but, has also become one of the leaders in the swimming pool industry. Sincerely, Gary Larsen, President Marty Olson, Vice President and all the staff of Blue Horizons. Award winning.

This was a very positive experience. The scheduling was a bit haphazard in terms of a holiday weekend, but overall, I'm pleased with the professionalism and excellent communication from this company. I would like to call out Brian, who was very organized and helpful post-pool resurfacing in terms of care, chemical treatments and information. I can see why Horizon Pools has an A+ rating and I'm glad I worked with them.

We went with Blue Horizons due to their competitive pricing, a clear overview on what they were doing, and their high ratings. The workmanship of all crews, from demo to final finish was top notch. However, there is one facet of the renovation that really disappointed. Our pool had an old coating that had to be sand blasted off in order for the Diamond Bright to be applied. I expected there to be a mess, can?t help it, just the nature of the process. First, the sand blasting was done by a sub-contractor and Blue Horizon was as disappointed in their performance as I was. Blue Horizon handled the situation as best as it could be handled. Here is where my issues originate. The sand blasters made no effort to cover the main drain, any of the jets, or the skimmer inlet. It was a huge mess. Blue Horizons claimed to have cleaned up the mess, but I wonder. After the pool was filled and the chemical tech was getting the water corrected, he told my wife that our filter was not working, a 2 year old Hayward sand filter. It was working beautifully the day they drained the pool. Now we were having sand blown through the jets into the pool. During the first week of starting the pool back up I had at least 1? of sand on the bottom of the deep end. We called for service on the filter per the Blue Horizons tech claim. The repair tech from Leslie?s could not find any malfunction in the working of the filter, but recommended a complete sand change so they could see all of the filter tubes in the bottom of the filter. I agreed and scheduled the additional service. The filter tech and I both suspected the filter was clogged/contaminated with media from the sand blaster. At this point I contacted Blue Horizons again to update them on my filtration problems. I also stated that if my suspicions proved correct, I would expect the filter sand change to be credited back to me as the issue would have then caused by the sand blasting sub. I was assured by the office staff that all of this would be taken care of. I contacted Blue Horizon again after the filter sand had been changed and told them that filtration was greatly improved and informed them of the filter techs findings. The filter sand was packed on the bottom and the top was covered with a type of sand not used in filters. The texture and coloring was different. Once the filter was purged and new sand installed, it has once again working as it should. The office staff told me that she would update Marty and get back to me. A few days later, one of the techs from Blue Horizon called. He told me he wanted to know what was going on and I went through the entire chain of events with him. He then told me it was due to us having a sand filter, not a DE. He told me that sand filters were not effective, etc. History shows they have worked great for decades. After a conversation of him blaming my filter, me, excuses such as ?he had never seen that happen before? (he also didn?t see the 2 feet of sand the blasters left in the bottom of my pool either) it was to the point of being argumentative. I finally told him that I was done with the conversation. I told him if they think it is the right thing to do and walk away from the issue, then so be it. He told me he would talk to Marty, and it has now been over a month and I have heard nothing from anyone at Blue Horizon. I can only take this as Blue Horizon does not feel that they have neither the duty nor the responsibility to rectify issues caused by the sub-contractor they hired. I would have expected at least a phone call. They appeared to be a much more professional than the other companies I contacted, but I feel they fell short in my experience. Update 9/14/2015: Marty called me this morning. We had a discussion regarding my experience. He told me that he just became aware of my situation, something he would address with his staff. He was apologetic and took responsibility for the issues. A refund for the repair will be issued. With our conversation, I feel much better about my choice to use Blue Horizon. And since this has been resolved I would have no hesitation to use this company again.

Everyone with the Blue Horizons team was extremely professional and helpful throughout the entire process. They communicated with us on a regular basis and kept us in the loop during each phase of the project. The work started on time and was completed as scheduled. I was very impressed with their attention to detail and their work is outstanding! Although I was not expecting it, they added some decorative tiles to the steps in my pool, which were a very nice touch. They made sure to match the texture on the stair and patio to the existing walkway. After the new concrete was painted, they left me the rest of the paint to use on the existing areas so it will all match. I would highly recommend Blue Horizons and will definitely use them again for any similar work we need done.

Working with Blue Horizons Pools on our deck replacement turned out to be an excellent decision. Everything they said would happen - did happen on schedule. From the initial visit to our home to discuss the project through the completed project was handled in a very professional manner. The management and office staff were helpful and quick to respond. The team that came in and prepped the area around the pool were friendly, proficient and did a thorough and excellent job. The paving crew likewise were professional, courteous and did an excellent job. From beginning to end, it was a pleasure working with this company, and the outcome exceeded our expectations. I would use them again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend them to anyone needing this kind of service.

Excellent. One of the most professional people I've used in 38 years of home ownership. Prompt, did what they said they would, went above an beyond in fighting the weather. The office staff was also great, pulled up my account almost immediately, polite, professional, and almost always picked up the phone or called back almost immediately. Just a great all around job.

We hired Blue Horizons to re-surface and re-tile our pool. We also had them install pool pavers on our pool deck. Marty came out talked to us to understand what we were looking for and gave us our options. He broke each down into time and cost to make it easier to understand and had physical examples of the DimaonBrite, the pool tiles and the pavers for us to choose from. We make our decision and he gave us a quote which was the amount we ended up paying. I told him I had company coming in for Thanksgiving and asked that the work be done by then. Marty told me what to expect and how long it would take. I have to say, he was right on. The entire process, except for the sealing of the pavers, was completed in 2 weeks and in the process he told us. Each of the crews that worked on the pool, and there were at least 4, arrived when they were supposed to and did the job in a very professional and polite manner. I was impressed with the skill level shown by all of the workman. I was originally concerned that a supervisor didn't show up each day but after a few days it was quite apparent that the workman didn't need one. After the work was completed we had to wait 45 days for the pavers to set before they could be sealed and that was right at Christmas time so it was early January before the sealant was completed. The finished product looks great and since I was there the entire time, I know the quality is also excellent. I have nothing but praise for the sales staff, the many workman and the technicians who came out to make sure all was good and to make sure I understood what my tasks were in support of the new pool surface and pavers.

They were Great! I met with Marty when the process began and he was very informative and helpful. When they began the work, Marcus was the Supervisor but he also did the retainer wall by himself. He was very meticulous and it turned out beautiful. Most of all I would like to thank Brian. He has helped us with any questions we had in regards to chemicals, the new computerized salt system, etc. He went above and beyond the call of duty on some of his work, was very informative, professional, and wonderful. These three men are definitely an asset to this Company. Everyone that worked on the job were very professional and courteous. I really love how everything turned out. Blue Horizons will always have an "A" rating with me.

After having a leak detected by BRN Services--a broken skimmer, I contacted Blue Horizons to fix the problem. Kevin and Brian came out and worked all day using a jackhammer and concrete saw to cut out the section of deck around the skimmer portion. They lowered the pool water level a few feet. They then dug down deep enough to lift out and cut out the old broken skimmer. They replaced it with a new one and filled the hole back in and used concrete to smooth over the portion of the deck they had cut out. The job winded up looking very neat and the new skimmer looks great. All I have to do now is paint the concrete section to match my pool deck color. They cleaned up after they had finished and put a large umbrella over the concrete section so that it could cure a few days. Over the weekend I started filling the pool back up to normal level. On Monday Brian came back and checked everything. He made sure the sweep worked properly, checked all the dials on the pool filter, etc. and started the pool running again. He was very thorough and stayed to answer every question I had. I will only call Blue Horizons for any pool repair that I ever have--they are great!

This is one of those times, while it pains me to ever give folks a bad grade, I know in my case it's warranted, because as professionals, and when a customer makes it clear they are completely clueless, I expect a professional to guide us and help us. More then that, when we specifically say we need that, we absolutely expect it. So let me tell the start from the holistic perspective. 1. We just bought this house about a month ago, and it has a pool. It is the first pool we have ever owned. We knew several things. a) we don't know squat about pools b) we knew some things were wrong (a couple) because the inspector told us c) we shared the inspection report with the pool folks because we had no idea what any of it meant or what had to be done and a list of things that we knew had an issue. Like I told my wife, we knew some of the "what's per say" but no idea on "how" it should be fixed, and being fixed isn't just replacing what someone has that is broken (unless they just physically say, hey don't try to give me ideas), but instead taking the time to provide education and information, especially when a customer asks for it. 2. We specifically told the person who came out and looked at our stuff and quoted us we were complete morons when it came to pools and we were looking for help and to educate and guide us, like a care salesmen or a TV salesman or appliance salesmen would at a retail store. 3. We even told this to the installer when he came out to do the work, before the work was even started, that we were new at this, that we had no idea what to do, could he please help us by looking at the system. We didn't even know how to use the remote control, or turn on the solar power, or what a blower was etc. Now being uneducated doesn't mean we can just blame a random person, or put 100% blame on others, but when you go out of your way to ask for help multiple times before work is even started, yes I do expect the professional (and at this point 2) to say hey.. wait a second.. based on what you are telling me, have you thought about this? 4. So now what are we talking about. Well we knew the Gas Heater for the Spa was dead. We also knew that the Solar System was old and really needed to be replaced because the Solar Company had already been out, and the inspector and the owners acknowledged that the spa heater was bad. Now what we told the folks when they were at our house was that we planned on using the pool all year around, 100%. I even had a long conversation with the installer about the solar system, and how he didn't like them either, and how I was going to merely get rid of it, because he was now the 3rd person telling me that (and I agree btw). But remember I specifically said we wanted to use the pool all year around. So we bought and paid for a brand new gas heater, which was only good for the spa... We didn't know this at the time, no one told us this and we had no idea or reason to know to ask, especially since we had such discussions about how we planned on using it. The installer was super nice, again the people are super nice, but super nice doesn't fix the fact that I spent over $2,000 dollars on something, that had they provided me with the information I asked for, I wouldn't have spent. After the installer finished, and once again, he was awesome, he gave us a solid idea of what we needed to do, and what to ask a pool maintenance company (because they don't service our area he said). Well we found a maintenance company. They came out and we said the same to them, we know nothing, here is how we plan to use the pool year round etc. He immediately said, "wait you just bought that gas heater and your getting rid of the broken solar system?". We said yes, and he immediately said "hmm why didn't you buy a hybrid heater that would do both your spa and pool?" He did explain that in fact it would take longer to heat the spa, and while that part was bad, we would in fact be able to heat the pool and go year around etc etc. Well.. of course that system cost like $4500-5000 dollars... and we were like... well what the heck the other company didn't even mention that. And I assure you, we didn't tell this guy anything we didn't tell the other folks. This guy merely did what I would have expected before spending $2425 dollars, and gave us advice based on what we said, not just a list of items on a piece of paper, as if we had said nothing about our ignorance, or that they are pros whom we asked for guidance. So now we are in the process of buying a hybrid. We cannot get our money back on the gas, so now we will have both... To top that off, the inspector (for something else), the pool maintenance company, and the amerigas person asked us who did the install and why they didn't remove the grass from under / around the new system which is required. Of course we had no idea, and certainly didn't know it's a known fire hazard. The gas guy didn't even want to hook it up because of the hazard. The inspector said get it fixed... While they did come out and fix it a couple days later (the scheduled day they had an emergency and couldn't so they came the next day)... it's kinda silly that it was left like that in the first place... Again we don't know it's a problem so we expect the professionals to act professionally. As I started and said many times, these are really nice people. I have zero doubts they do great work and absolutely help people, but my grade is based solely off my experience and you should balance your decision to use them off them all, not just my experience. I would suggest though that if you contact them, that when they are there, somehow.... get them to clearly lay out any option you might have, not just replace what you have, if you are a complete noob to pools like we are.
Description of Work: Installed a Gas Heater, Looked at the System, Made Some Recommendations, Replaced a Light Bulb (in the pool), Checked Things Over.

After receiving 3 or 4 quotes from other companies and after reviewing Angie's list reviews, we decided to go with Blue Horizons. Although not the cheapest quote, quality seemed to be high. Everything went according to plans. Marty, the manager came and measured, gave us estimates, showed us samples of materials, etc. He gave us a specific start date which was a few weeks out but not too long. As the start date neared, the office sent us an "Acceptance of Proposal" to sign and return. Although there was no detailed contract showing warranty, etc., they readily supplied this by email answering all my questions. The crew was there exactly on the start date and began work. The work was completed in a few days with 3-4 men at a time doing the job. This home is in Orlando and the wife and I live in NC so we were not there when the actual work was done, however I was able to monitor the progress via our security camera. The specifics of the job were to resurface the pool and spa with Diamond Brite Finish, remove and replace waterline tiles, resurface the pool deck with short bullnose coping and brick pavers, including the equipment pad outside the screen room. The had to remove and then re-install the pool filter, pump, and heater. Install 52 ft. of new deck drain system. Install pavers at front entrance. Clean up and haul off all old concrete, debris, materials, etc. Labor and materials included in price. Project to be completed in 2-3 weeks, weather permitting. I found a couple of very minor issues that their technician corrected very quickly. The result was outstanding! The area looks great! I would definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Completely refinished our pool and spa. Installed pavers throughout the pool area including under pool equipment and also at the front entrance of the home.

There are 2 very highly rated companies on Angie's List for this kind of pool renovation. I almost went with the other place....it was really close. Marty's price was a little lower....and he was going to do one basic little thing that the other company was not going to do (replace the drains pipes on the travertine deckl). I asked Marty if this was necessary and he said "absolutely." He said "yours are small and smashed up, they need to be replaced with newer big ones." The drains are typically the least of peoples worries, but I thought that if they were that worried about the drains, I bet the rest of my pool will be awesome. So I picked Marty and his bunch to work wth.....and it was really good. 1. Most importantly, my pool is awesome. My wife LOVES it. 2. I called with 2 concerns regarding pricing (one was a mistake on my part, the other was a math error on their part). I got responses from their office same day on the first question and a call directly from Marty on the second wtihin an hour of my inquiry 3. Their team was super professional. 4. We had scheduling conflicts to do the final walk through....Brian came out at 7:00am to this morning to accomodate my schedule. I requested that they be on time....and Brian was 20 minutes early. (Full disclosure I owed them a ton of money still, so they were well motivated.) 5. Brian walked around my pool with me for 25 minutes this morning just talking about how to care for the pool, the travertine, and general pool stuff. He answered all my questions and would have kept answering had I kept asking. Overall a very good experience. I'm already planning a couple of other things for Marty and his group to do. If you're thinking about a pool renovation definitely give Marty and this group a chance.....
Description of Work: They completely refinished my pool....new tile, new diamond brite......we did travertine over the entire deck plus an extension and a water feature. We're already planning to have them to add a fire pit.

We had several estimates for the above job performed. We went with Blue Horizons because of the salesmanship of Marty who explained the process with great knowledge. We said we would get back to them after all estimates were in. Called to let them know that we were going with them, set a start date for approximately 3 months later per our request. Did not hear another word from them until I got worried that there was no signed contract nor down payment collected several weeks before the job was scheduled to begin. Upon calling the office, robin assured me that they were on schedule and that contracts would be signed and down payment collected on the morning the crew arrived to begin the job. We were told where to go to pik out our tile, grout and mosaics that we were having installed. Early morning on the day job was to begin, Marcus arrived with 2 other crew members. Very friendly, courteous, professional. Got their entire job done in one day. Removed old tiles, sand blasted and acid washed entire 35' x 17' pool. Did a great job cleaning up also. Two days later the tilers came and applied new tiles to pool and placed mosaics on steps and bottom of pool....one day job. Diamond Brite was delivered to driveway next day, but we weren't expecting that crew to start until 4 days later as we were told due to rain delays on a previous job. When we noticed that the pallet of product was not completely sealed against weather, we called the office to see if we needed to cover it with a tarp and was assured that it would be fine. Surface application crew shows up as scheduled, only to find that the product was wet and unusable, so a one day delay on that. New pallet delivered same day and crew came back the following day to apply. This crew however, did not leave the job site clean at all. Mud, grass, wood splinters all over pool deck. Diamond Brite splashed on to sliding glass doors, pool tiles not completely cleaned of product. I called the office and was assured that a cleaning crew would be by the next day to clean up. I was not home at the time, and all they did was clean the tiles. We then had to fill our pool with our home hose, which took about 30 hours. The next day, they came and put in necessary start up chemicals, then returned 2 more times to complete that process. Our pool is now up and running and we can't wait to get back in. Kudos to Brian today for finding a leak in our pool heater that could have potentially caused a big loss in water levels. Luckily my husband is very handy electrically and mechanically, finding the problem quickly and repairing it with $3.00 part from Lowes after thinking we were going to have to spend 3-5 thousand dollars to replace heating unit or go solar. Kudos also to the girls in the office that took my panicked calls and calmed me just about every day with minor concerns. Our only suggestion to improve service from Blue Horizons would be to have one specified project manager to oversee the whole job from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Removed old tiles on pool, sand blasted and acid washed pool interior, replaced tiles, resurfaced pool with Diamond Brite, added pool chemicals at end of refilling pool.

They did a good job on the pool, but we had an issue a year later, when they had to replace one tile that fell off. I thought he charged me an awful lot for that service. He charged me $150 to replace a 6x6 time. I didn't think to ask him in advance. There was only a year's warranty, and it has been two years since the pool was built. They did what they said they were going to do, as far as putting the pool together, they did a good job, and cleaned up after themselves. The quality of service was good.
Description of Work: They redid our pool.

The different crews that work for Blue Horizons did a great job, they cleanup after each day. Everyone was very friendly & Marcus who is the head supervisor answered any questions I had. Bryan who has been adding the chemicals in the pool to get the PH correct is also great about explaining what he's doing each time he comes out. Aug.15th they be hooking up the salt system. Then at the end of Aug. they will be back to pressure wash the deck and seal the brick paver's the next day. Marty one the owners came well under the amount we wanted to spend on redoing the pool plus all the great things we heard about Blue Horizon. I would highly use them again in the near future.
Description of Work: Took out the jacuzzi and put a sit out with a bubbler fountain in the middle of it ,added two water falls and put in paver deck,& refinish the inside of pool with diamond bite finish.

Setting up and having the appointment was done professionally. There was a delay getting started due to backlog of pending jobs. (understandable). I was told it would take four days to complete the job but it took ten days due to weather delays.( Again, understandable) One week went by between day one and two of the job and I finally called to see what was going on: "They're returning tomorrow. Sorry I didn't call, I'm the only one in the office." They did return the next day and finished the job three days later. The finish and the follow up guys to ensure chemical levels were in balance for the week after completion were great, friendly and professional. In fact, all their workers were. As an RN, I do have a concern for the workers. I noticed when they workers pour acid into the empty pool, they all start coughing immediately and it does not stop quickly. I worry for the health of their lung tissue. I think they should have respirators and not just paper masks (most have no protective equipment) provided by the employer. It broke my heart.

Very punctual in contacting us and providing an estimate. Work began approximately 3 weeks later and was completed on time and on budget. There was a slight delay, but it was weather related.

This entire process went smoothly---from quotes to completion. I was originally a little worried about this not knowing anything about resurfacing an in-ground pool. I received multiple quotes, and decided on Blue Horizon, who was "A" rated by Angies---they were the most reasonably priced but also, prompt, professional and the entire job was really completed in less than 2 working days...and the result was outstanding.
Description of Work: Drained, prepped, installed new tile and plastered our in-ground kidney shaped pool---Diamond Bright "cool blue"...and the chemical balance was monitored by Blue Horizon for the first couple days after completion.
