Response from Blue Horizons Pools & Spas
The first time the customer contacted us about the condition of his pool finish is on August 25, 2017. The complaint was quickly noted and an inspection visit was scheduled for Aug 30th. Marty Olson, our estimator and one of the business owners, personally inspected the pool. As the condition of the pool was one he had never seen on any previously applied Midnight Blue pool finish, he felt it necessary to request a Diamond Brite warranty rep come look at the pool finish. Jason Eckenrod, the warranty rep for Diamond Brite was immediately contacted and an appointment was requested. Mr. Eckenrod visited the pool on September 21, 2017. The result of the inspection is that the discoloration of the pool finish was due to the pool chemistry not being properly maintained by the customer, which resulted in the pool being scaled. The customer's confirmed they service their own pool however they were not able to provide records of the water analysis used to determine what chemicals were needed to be added in order to balance the pool water chemistry as per the Diamond Brite warranty recommendations. To confirm that there was nothing wrong with the pool finish, Mr. Eckenrod treated the pool with Jack's Magic #[Member Information Removed] and was able to remove the scaling on the section the solution was applied. The final result of his inspection is that the pool condition is not a warranty issue. He recommended an acid treatment to remove the scaling. The customer was emailed a copy of the finished inspection form and asked to contact the office if he wanted to proceed with acid treatment. We disagree with the customer's statement about the resurfacing not having been properly completed. First, the Mr. Eckenrod did not find any issues with our application and second the customer's pool renovation is not the first time we have applied the Midnight Blue Diamond Brite finish. The application of plastering pool finishes is exactly the same no matter what the pool finish color is. We have applied Midnight Blue on multiple pools and never have experienced this type of issue. We do not have any records of the customer complaining about the application of the pool finish at time of the renovation, which was during the month of December 2016. If you look on Angie's list and read our reviews you will see that it is not our practice to have a customer dissatisfied with our service and workmanship. If the customer had contacted us about doing an acid treatment we would have come to a solution he would have found acceptable. I know for certain Marty would have given him the acid treatment at no cost. There is a protocol that we follow in resolving customer issues. The customer chose to not to give us the opportunity to come to an agreeable resolution and instead he sent an email threatening to "seek repatriation through BBB, Angie's List, Yelp and whatever means possible". We still take pride in our work and we are willing to do the acid treatment on his pool at no cost to the customer in spite of the fact that his pool finish issues are not due to our workmanship and that he has posted negative complaints on various social forums.
