The company was a pleasure to deal with. The workmen, lead by Ron who did almost all of the work, were clean, prompt, polite and knowledgable. Ron was very meticulous, which was exemplified by the end result. They cleaned up when they were finished with the job, and the company always promptly returned any telephone calls I made with questions. Their bid was a little higher than other bids I got, but it was worth it to me to pay a little more and have the job done right. I would definitely recommend this company and I will use them again in the future.

It went well although we had a delay waiting for the pavers which although frustrating, was not Sunsation Pools fault. Any questions were answered promptly and once the job got going went according to plan.
Description of Work: We are very happy with the work we had done. They installed pavers around our pool, re-surfaced the pool and installed a new pool pump. We have a somewhat difficult area to put the pavers in on one side of the pool and Steve knew exactly how to solve the problem. They were not the cheapest quote we received but, we were confident the job would be done right! It looks great!

The only negative is after we signed the contract and paid the deposit, we somehow got lost in their system. I was told it could take up to 3 weeks to get a work date, but close to 4 weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything. After calling them, they apologized and from then on, the service and communications were excellent. They really paid attention to the small details and even sent a man back for some touch up prep work (on their own). Follow up was good, both phone and in person. 1 day was prep and 1 day was surface application. Both days went well and all workers were nice and friendly. They did a good job of cleanup. All but the most unavoidable messes were handled well. I would highly recommend Sunsation Pools for pool resurfacing.

On April 9, 2010, I called for an estimate on some paver repair work to be done. Sunsation Pools was not the original installing company (that company had gone out of business). My call was returned the next day. I spoke with "Aaron" who said they were swamped with "big" jobs and didn't really have time for a "small" job, but since I was an Angie's member, he would try to help me out. He asked that I email him a picture of the broken coping so that he could identify the manufacturer and get back to me with a quote on the cost of new coping and the install. He emphasized that it would be a few weeks before they could complete the job. I said this was acceptable, and I emailed him two pictures that day (April 10, 2012). I never heard from him again. I guess if you have a "big ticket" job they may possibly be a good company, but you had better hope that you don't ever need any smaller follow up repairs. They don't have time or interest in that.
Description of Work: I called for an estimate. The company was slow to return the call and once contact was made, the company never followed up with an estimate. They do not want "little" jobs.

Attention perspective customers please read; As a business owner and operator I decided I would rather forgo business when necessary verses taking on business for the monetary advantages while knowing that I could not complete the work timely and ensure client satisfaction. We are a referral-based company that strives to go above and beyond to please our customers and ensure their utmost satisfaction. The customer happened to call at a time where our organization was extremely busy with our crews being scheduled weeks out into the future. When the customer called our organization to inquire about a minor repair to the coping edge of her paver deck, we politely explained that we were extremely busy and not really in a position to take on another project at that time. However, because the customer was persistent, we told her that we would try to assist her. We asked the customer to email photographs of the broken coping edge so that we could ascertain the manufacturer as to provide the customer an estimate to repair the coping. At this time, we also told the customer that we wouldn’t be able to start the repair for several weeks. That was the last we heard from the customer until seeing this Angie’s list review. In the review, the customer states that she emailed the pictures. However, I have not yet received such email from the customer, nor have I received any other communication from the customer since she initially called. Therefore, our organization has had no contact with the customer beyond the initial telephone inquiry. It is also important to note that Sunsation Pools and Spas has not provided any services to the customer prior to this event. All of that being said, with my being unaware of the initial conversation with Aaron, thus unaware to be expecting an email, I would never have known to follow up with the customer. If she had made a follow up call to me, the Owner of Sunsation Pools and Spas, quite possibly her feeling disappointed could have been avoided. However, I will take this event as an opportunity to improve processes within our office in hopes of avoiding a miscommunication of this type from reoccurring. We treat all customers with respect and always strive to provide excellent service. Thank you, Steve Buscema President Sunsation Pools & Spas

The project took longer than expected but that was the result of weather delays, not the company. We appreicated the fact they would not rush the job just to get it done, but waited to ensure it was completed properly. The pool was drained, the old marcite fihish cut out at the tile line and any area that was not stable. A coating was applied, then the pool was resurfaced with the new marquis finish. New tiles were installed on the steps that was a perfect coordination to the existing pool tiles. The decking was then prepared for larger drains, pressure washed, and a bonding agent applied to the deck. The next step was to apply the acrylic surface. The final step was to stain the surface the color we had selected. The crews were professional and very respective of our property. Any time we had a questio or concern, we called Aaron, the project manager, and he immediately answered our question or explained the process. The inconvenience of a longer than expected project was well worth the wait for the completed project.
Description of Work: We needed to have our marcite pool rsurfaced and decided to redo the deck surface and the drains at the same time. We called Sunsations Pools for a quote on the project. The owner, Steve, was very responsive to our call. He came out and measured the area in question and gave us a quote at that time. He very patiently answered all our questions--this was a new process for us as we had only been in the house one year. We were uncertain whether to use pavers on decking area or resurface it using an acrylic product. We visited the showroom to look at the options. Again, Steve was very patient with the myriad of questions we had. We ultimately decided on a marquis finish for the pool and an acrylic surface for the deck to include redoing the drains. He suggested we could tie the drains into our exicting french drain system to control the run off even more. The crew who resurfaced the pool were very professional and again answered all our questions. They were committed to ensuring the customer was satisfied every step of the way. The weather was not cooperating so the project took longer than originally expected but you cannot blame weather issues on the company! We filled the pool and Sunsation Pools balanced the chemicals within the first few days. The crew who did our deck arrived to cut out the old drains and prepare the deck for the larger drains to be installed. They pressure washed the area, applied a bonding coat, applied the acyrlic surface, and then applied the stain we had picked out. This is a four to five day process if the weather cooperates but the finished product was well worth the inconvenience of the time it took to complete the project.

It went very well. Our new pool and pavers look wonderful and the salt water chlorination system has worked flawlessly. Steve Buscema, the company owner, was friendly, professional, and proved to be a man of his word. In planning the project and discussing the scope of work, Steve gave us some great ideas that we ultimately used. The Sunsation crews were punctual, very good at their jobs, and pleasantly answered any questions that we had. Clearly, they all took pride in their jobs. Refinishing a pool and cutting and installing pavers is dirty work but the crews did a fine job of cleaning up after themselves. Along the way, we were always kept well informed of what the next project task would be and when it would be begun and completed. When we found that there was a problem with draining rainwater in the yard, Steve had the paver crew come out two additional times until we were happy. Steve stated more than once that he wouldn't be satisfied with the job until we were. That proved to be completely true. I would not hesitate to use Sunsation Pools and Spas again. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Sunsations refinished our 15' X 30' pool with a new Marquis exposed quartz aggregate surface, replaced the tile and coping, removed a worn wooden deck, laid thin pavers in the backyard and installed a salt water chorination system. They also replaced the skimmer, removed a pool slide, and repaired some structural problems on the pool.

I was really nervous when It was time to get my pool redone. I knew it was going to cost me some serious dollars. After spending time with Steve I felt his company was the right one to use. From the first day his crew was on time, respectful of our privacy and property and did exactly what they said they would do. My recommendation is to be up front with them about what you want and they will bend over backwards to deliver.
Description of Work: like most people I am not an expert when it comes to pool construction nor do I want to be. After getting bids from several reputable companies I was relieved when Sunsation came to my home. Steve was great. He answered all my questions ( I had a lot of questions) and he made sure I had the information I needed to make the right decision. In fact some of his recommendations saved me money in the long run. My recommendation is to get your bids but make Sunsation your last bidder. He may not be the lowest price company but he is, for sure, the best. Ours was the fifth pool in our neighborhood and I guarantee if any of us had a problem it would have been the last pool job he would have gotten in a three mike radius. It is obvious that the Sunsation guys know a referral is the best kind of advertising. I am not easy to impress and I was impressed. By the way I already recommended Sunsation ot my brother in law.

I received eight bids before awarding the job to Sunsation Pools. They were the third most expensive. I thought avoiding the bidders on the low end might help get me a better job. The final product was marginally acceptable but there were numerous issues to get to that point. The issues started with the subcontractor that installed the waterline tile & coping and applied the bonding coat to the pool surface. He generally did a fair to good job but complained at length that he shouldn't have to correct issues when they were pointed out. At one point he was ?coloring in? imperfections in the tile installation with a sharpie marker. I had to cut the spotter tiles that go on the steps to the proper size because he just flat refused to do it. He never did get the corners where the tiles meet to line up with the corners of the coping. When the bonding coat started flaking off the pool, I had to loan him my pressure washer to remove the loose material so he could reapply the bonding agent while he continued to complain that he shouldn?t have fix it. The issues continued with the paver installation. One pallet of pavers was in such poor condition that the entire pallet had to be replaced delaying the job a week. The paver subcontractor tried to cover up the fact that they did not remove all the old deck drain by cutting off the bottom half of the new drain and just laying it on top of the old drain. They also improperly filled a section of the old deck that had been removed for plumbing and after a day of rain, the section collapsed. A couple of times when I was told the paver crew was returning to do more work, they just never showed up. In an attempt to remove a white film that developed on the coping and pavers, Sunsation Pools sent out a representative from the paver manufacturer to pressure wash the deck. This did nothing for the film, blew sand everywhere, and dislodged numerous pavers. I ended up resetting many of the pavers myself. The application of the final pool surface and the plumbing work seemed to go well. Sunsation Pools did not perform any quality control inspection of their own. It was entirely on me to find any issues and try to get them corrected. Throughout the job I often heard the standard contractor platitudes of "that's the way it?s done", "trying to fit it will only make it worse", and "It can't be perfect, it?s a remodel". I see that this company has received many good reviews but my experience was not good. On two occasions I was very near throwing them off the job. In the end, the job site was not kept clean, I had to do too much myself, the job took three times longer than it was suppose too, I paid near the top end of the bids, I got a fair to average job, and I had to push them hard to get that. I am sure there are worse contractors out there but I would not use them again and, in all good conscious, I can't recommend them.
Description of Work: Sunsation Pools resurfaced the pool with marquis quartz aggregate, replaced the pool tile, resurfaced the deck with thin pavers, and did some plumbing work.

Response from Sunsation Pools & Spas Inc
Attention Angies list customers please read; As evident in all our other reviews and our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, we are a referral-based company that strives to go above and beyond to please our customers and ensure their utmost satisfaction. This negative review, the first in company history, leaves me disappointed and compelled to rebut. In this particular case the customer decided to change the coping color mid-project which caused an initial delay. Upon delivery of the newly chosen pavers, Sunsation Pools identified them as defective and refused the pavers as a quality control measure that resulted in a secondary delay but was in the customer’s best interest. Upon installation of the newly chosen darker color coping the customer questioned his choice of tile just installed; this tile was chosen to match the initial but then revised coping color. He requested that we remove the tile and reinstall a different choice of tile and when he learned the cost to do so, the customer’s attitude toward the workers and the project overall started going downhill. From this point forward, the customer became hard to please, began scrutinizing the tile work and demanded that we replace numerous tiles for various insignificant reasons; I think in an effort to get a new choice of tile for free. Things came to a boiling point when there was a tile that had a minuscule chip (from normal handling) on the side easily masked with grout but he demanded be replaced. The tile installer, who in all of my years in business has never had an issue with a customer, became so frustrated that he took a dark marker and colored in the miniscule chip. In the end he apologized and replaced the tile in an effort to please the customer. However, my installer said he would not to return to the jobsite because he could no longer replace tile that did not need to be replaced and felt the customer was doing this purposely. On another occasion the customer, on his own accord, rolled out his personal pressure washer and insisted that we pressure wash the pool a second time. This was not needed but in the spirit of customer satisfaction we did it. We also unnecessarily removed a section of the customer’s screen enclosure at his request so we can run the cap of the deco- drain underneath of it to meet his liking. In this circumstance, I would concede that a “B+” rating is appropriate due to the initially defective pavers and ensuing delay. Regarding the question of the paver and tile alignment, it was explained to this customer during initial inspection for proposal that when remodeling an existing pool and spa sometimes they are not true to form which makes it extremely unlikely to attain perfect alignment. In conclusion as the owner of Sunsation Pools, it is important that you know that I will not accept substandard workmanship and that I expect all jobs to be completed meticulously. I would also like it known that upon completion of the pool and deck project this customer requested that Sunsation Pools do some additional work in the front of his house. For these reasons I am quite shocked at the review that was given; I feel confident stating that we did everything we could to make this customer happy and complete the work properly. While I did not expect a perfect rating in this case, I do not agree with the customers review and rating. After reading his review I attempted to call this customer to discuss and resolve any discrepancies but unfortunalty I did not receive a return call. I ask all Angie’s List customers to consider all reviews and ratings objectively and not let one customers opinion discourage you from considering us for your next project. Thank you, Steve Buscema President Sunsation Pools & Spas

They were very good. The pool has been working great. They did a good job. We had a positive experience with them. They finished up about 6 weeks ago. The only problem I had with them was that they wouldn't call in a timely manner. They were right there in the ballpark on the pricing. We had 4 quotes. They weren't the most expensive, but they were right there close to the top. Some companies wanted to do sandblasting, but I wasn't excited about that.
Description of Work: Sunsation Pools & Spas cleaned the pool by using a hydro washing equipment which is a flexi pressure washer that is on a flatbed truck. The pool had been painted at one time and it had to be pressure washed down. They put in some piping in and did some plumbing before cleaning the pool. We needed 2 lines, one line for cleaning the bottom of the pool and a return line. Then they resurfaced it and filled it up with water.

Steve arrived on time for our appointment, he was knowledgeable and provided very helpful information to consider in the pool renovation process. He was very professional and prepared, had good follow-up to inquire if we had made a decision regarding a pool company choice. He was very pleasant and customer service oriented. I would not hesitate to use this young man's pool company in the future. We ultimately made a choice for a renovation that included the pool being contracted to a second party. The pool finished product will be nice, but I think overall things would have been better during the process and Sunsation Pools would have made a smoother project completion and a great end product so I really wish I had chosen Steve's company.

Apart from weather delays (cold weather and rain) the work proceeded on schedule. Pavers were delivered on the date promised and work was performed as promised. Sunsation kept us informed all along of delays and what would happen next. After the pool was filled and running for a few days we noticed a leak of .5 inch per day and notified Sunsation. They dispatched a leak specialist and the problem was resolved. I highly recommend this company for pool work. They have excellent teams who work their specialties. They are also very customer oriented (keeping the client informed), price their service fairly and quickly make amends when things don't quite go as planned.

Steve was very up front with us. He made recommendations, gave us the pros and cons and let us decided what we wanted to do. A simple resurface soon turned into a full restoration of the old pool. Steve did inform us that they never know what they will find until they empty the pool and start tearing things apart. The pool had been painted several times. This paint had to be removed at an additional $1800.00. We expected that there may be something extra but, not at that price. The whole process took longer than planned. Aaron, the project manager, kept us informed at all times of the progress, next event and any delays (due to weather) and being able to work around our schedule (the major delay was our changing schedule). We are very pleased with the end results. The only recommendations is to discuss what will be used to fill the gaps of the pavers and offer different choices i.e. sand, polymeric sand, or grout/thinset or other medium.

Our pool needed serious attention.Who do you call? Who do you trust to do this type of work? I did'nt know anyone. I asked around in my network of people to hear a lot of "I don't know anyone" or horror stories....I was told about Angies List, joined, found some companies that looked good, got some bids from a few, and settled on Steve from Sunsation Pools & Spas. I felt "comfortable" with Steve, he knows his stuff, gave me "lists" of referrals, best price,etc.. The job went smooth, no problems, and a great looking finished product. They went out of their way with customer service. Thanks Steve,Raymond, and Aaron. To the Tampa Bay pool owners: I had never heard of this company, I did not know anyone associated with this company, they are no relation of mine, and I am not receiving any-thing special for my comments.Does this help anyone "out there"?...Go for it....

Superb company that truly embodies customer service. Both Steve and Aaron were actively engaged from start to finish with Aaron providing updates practically on a daily basis. This was a large job with significant cost risk and schedule if not managed effectively. The results were nothing short of superb...on time and at the prices quoted. I'm extremely impressed with the final results and look forward to having Steve and Aaron resurface my driveway with the same pavers used for the front entrance way in the near future.
Description of Work: Remove concrete and wood deck entry way and install brick pavers. Remove existing wood deck surrounding cement pool deck and install brick pavers over the entire pool deck area to include a screened lanai. Re-plumb vacumum line, install ball valves, replace pool pump and install salt system. Re-surfaced entire pool with blue pebble-tec surface.

We knew it would be a big job and Sunsation Pools stepped up and met all of our expectations! Steve, the owner, came to the house and prepared an estimate and explained it in detail. Only one of us was home so he agreed to come out a second time. If that wasn't enough I was unable to make that meeting too so he agreed to come out a third time!! He was really great about it and needless to say we gave him the job. The pavers had to be ordered so the work didn't begin for two weeks. The pallets of pavers were delivered on a Friday and the workers began on Monday. The crew stayed past 6:30pm that first night working to cut and prepare the new drainage system before going home. Tuesday morning they arrived right on time and worked through the day until past 8:30pm finishing the job. The masonry is beautiful and it is obvious this team has worked together before! Even though it was well past dark the team cleaned up the deck/patio area from all the dust and debris generated over the past two days. We now have a beautiful, and safe, deck that looks even better than we imagined it could!!! Even our neighbors were impressed by the craftsmanship and dedication of the crew to get the job done on time. After three years of management/improvements this was our first truly positive contracting experience we've had since moving in! We will be using Sunsation Pools for all our future decking and drainage needs!
Description of Work: Our patio and pool deck had three major issues. First, standing water and mold/mildew! Second, uneven and cracked deck surface. Third, an invisible step. The drainage on the existing deck was one step below useless (on a dry day) and caused the deck to flood in a light rain. Once the rain was over the water would remain on the deck in three main places until they turned into mold patches that needed to be pressure washed to remove. Second was the uneven and cracked deck surface. The former owners had a spa on the deck that we got rid of and where it stood was at least three different elevations and deck surfaces. It was impossible to get the patio table level!!!! Along the entire length of the deck was a small step that most folks would trip down. This is great fun as long as no one got hurt but... after several drinks it was just a hazard. We desperately needed to make this step and the edge of the pool more visible to our guests.

I didn?t use them but there was no reason not to. They were very professional and very good. They were very nice and did exactly what they said. We just decided to go with a fiberglass pool instead of concrete which had nothing to with them. They just don?t carry the other kind. Absolutely no problem whatsoever.
