My experience with Thompson Electric was awful. I got this company's contact information off of Angie's list. I called to inquire the cost for having an electrical outlet installed in my garage. I was very clear that I had a two story home and that I wanted an outlet added on a wall that did not have one and that I also wanted it to be added independently to the circuit breaker. I was quoted a fee of $175.00 - $225.00 for this service. I also asked the company to provide me with a quote for recessed lighting in my kitchen. Again I informed them that I had a two story home and wanted to know if this was possible. The electrician arrived 45 minutes late past the time window/range I was given. As soon as he arrived he said that adding an outlet in the garage would only be possible if he made holes in my garage ceiling or ran pipes across the walls. He wasn't even here 3 minutes. He stated that the price would be more than double what was quoted over the phone. I told him I wouldn't be needing his services and that I was given a quote and was very clear at describing my garage and informing scheduler that my home was a two story home. I never received a quote for the recessed lighting because the electrician never entered my home. I called the company and let them know that I was very dissatisfied with them giving me a quote and than trying to scam me into paying much more. Their exact words were "TOO BAD". They stated they would be billing me for $95.00 if I didn't agree to their outrageous scam. Who in their right mind would pay $400+++ dollars to have one outlet added to their home? NO ONE WOULD!!!!! Please do not use Tompson Electric INC. They will quote you a price over the phone and then try to double it when they arrive. If you don't agree to it they will then threaten you with a $95.00 service charge for NOTHING.
Description of Work: This provider did absolutely nothing and is charging me $95.00. Please do not use Thompson Electric. This company will quote you a price over the phone and when they arrive they will try to charge you double. When you don't agree to their scam they will then threaten you by saying they will then charge you a $95.00 service call for nothing.

Ms [Member Name Removed] , There is NO scam . You were told it was 95.00 to come out an look at your job. The fee to come out is waived once the proposal is accepted. To send any professional some where regardless of whether its a locksmith , doctor, or any person with skill or talent to evaluate YOUR problem there is a fee. The fact that it is only ONE receptacle has no bearing either. The price is quoted on a JOB. More complex jobs cost more to complete. Its a shame your comment is even allowed.

they came to fix a problem with the breaker box, which they fixed. I paid 161.00. Then I asked to guy to take a look upstairs to see what problem I had in the master bedroom. He looked said it was wired wrong and fixed it at it no charge. Great! Also I liked this guy. Then he left and I realized now there was no power upstairs at all. Took 3 days for them to get back because they were busy. For them to come back they said it would be $99.00 to look at it. I said ok. Which really they caused the problem so I wasn't thrilled about that but ok. Then this other guy says the wires were incorrectly labeled so that's why the first guy had a problem. He did it right but the wires were the wrong colors. Ok so fix it.... Well then this other guy calls the office and they told him it would be 234.00 to fix it. I think they were taking advantage of me at this point. The first service only cost $161.00 why is the second service $234.00? It should be $161.00 too. Which was still pretty darn expensive. Anyway I feel they took advantage of a woman.

I was informed on the phone I needed to buy a floor kit as they did not carry them. I was given no specific instruction as to what to look for, just go to Lowe's and buy a floor kit. I purchased one but it turned out to be the wrong kit. I was then informed that if the electrician went to get the part and came back to install it, it would cost me over $400. I then asked what my bill was so far. It was $182. That is $182 to pull three sockets tabs out and look at a floor outlet. I asked how it got so high and I was informed that I paid $100 dollars for the hour that it took the electrician to reach my house. I have paid trip charges before, and they are usually based on mileage not time. So I paid $182 for 40 minutes of work time.
Description of Work: I had three small jobs. Two hall lights did not work and one in the bathroom. The bulb had been twisted in too tight and he released the metal tab at the bottom of the sockets. I also had a floor outlet that worked but it no longer was screwed into the floor.

I got 3 more opinions from certified electricians. All 3 told me the lines could be repaired in the attic. I went with R and R electric who repaired all the cut lines for $1000 and ran new copper lines to the outside AC air handler + circuit for $490. I called the Thompson Electric electrician and asked for a refund of the $250 safety inspection since 3 different electricians told me he was wrong. Thompson Electric refused to refund the $250.
Description of Work: Thompson Electric came out and looked at the cut electric lines in my attic and took $250 from me for a Safety Inspection. He told me that a full rewire of the entire house was necessary at a cost of $4400.

Recently purchased a 1949 bungalow. The home was one owner and it had never had electrical updated since it was built. Hired Thompson electric because they rated the highest on Angie's List. Not without having had 3 estimates before hand. The came in the lowest bid, and I still got a 10% discount for having all the work done at once and % percent for Angie's list referral. They began on 2/27/2014 and finished in 3 days as they said they would. All new wiring in the garage for additional lighting sub panel in garage for Dryer, work area (for my hobby) and garage door opener. In house, canned light in kitchen, installed new lighting in all 4 closets, worded for new AC unit and wanter heater, new receptacles and light switches, upigraded form 100 to 200 amp service with meter combo making it easier for wiring additional things as i need them. John and ken certainly knew what they were doing. Even wired up my timer for my water heater for free! i would highly recommend them - you get your moneys worth.

This project took all day. First they ran the wire for the new circuits. and installed the outlets. 1 circuit on each side of the garage. 1 circuit outside on wall in the back yard and one outlet about 300 feet away by the shed. (I dug my own trench to save money). Over all I am very happy with the work that was completed. I did have an outlet below my old breaker box that vanished. I didn't notice it till last week when I went to go use it. It's not a big deal but I wish I was asked about it.

ceiling fans, electrician, lighting

I purchased a Big Deal with Thompson Electrical to install 2 ceiling fans on Christmas Eve received a call from the company 2 days later. I spoke with Mike and we discussed their earliest dates and he agreed as an exception to send a guy out to my home the following Saturday, January 4th. I asked for the name of the electrician but he was unable to tell me who would be coming to my home...that would be my only low point of this encounter. The electrician, who name escapes me and wasn't provided on the receipt :(, was very polite and professional. I showed him where fans and the rooms and he got started immediately. Once the old fans were taken down, he realized that they were not installed with a bracket in the ceiling and I would need to pay additional for cost for the bracket and labor. That additional cost was $65 per fan, which at that point I thought was basically acceptable. He even installed a remote control on the bedroom fan. He asked me for a sheet to cover my bed and floor and living room floor. After he completed the work inside he took all the trash; even the fan boxes, the fans themselves, and the mess from the ceiling. After, I added another task, install my security light outside, which he did for an additional $30. Though I feel the additional costs were on the higher side, I was appreciate of the amount of time, he took with each task. All told, he stayed almost 3 years to complete the work. I would recommend Thompson Electrical to a friend and use them in the future, maybe near future for another issue I have encountered.

I called Thompson after seeing their "deal." I just built a new house and did not get the canned lights installed at the time of the build because the builder's cost was outrageous. I called Thompson and they were able to send someone out that very day. I was thankful for their promptness. The senior (experience, not age) electrician showed up on time to do the work for which I also was thankful. He told me that he had to go into the attic and that things could get messy. He neglected to tell me that he was going to leave insulation all over the clothes in my closet and all over my bedroom floor including the new hardwood I'd had installed two weeks earlier. Even worse, he made no effort - none- to clean up after himself. I found out too that he cut into my wall to find a place for the outlet, but used another spot to install it and failed to mention to me the incision he made. It goes without saying that he made no effort to repair the wall. After that he charged me almost $300 for having to install the outlets and to clean up his mess! I will never use this company again.

The rep. showed up a little after 8 but called well before to let me know he was on the way. I was expecting them between 8-10 so they were well within that time frame. We were done with the appointment within the hour.

We are new to the Jacksonville area. We purchased a home and wanted to have the electrical panel upgraded before we moved in. The house was built in 1980's and did not have a built in microwave or bathroom fan in the master bedroom. House inspection pre-purchase recommended install and upgrade of existing panel prior to microwave and fan install. We recently joined Angies list and this is the first provider we selected. They had gotten good reviews and had a "angies list" special where we could get a replacement house panel for $1,175. We purchased the deal online on Sunday, 12/29/13. We were contacted on Monday, 12/30/13 by the Thompson Electric people. They told us they don't routinely carry this part (then why have a special?) and would have to order it from Toronto, Canada. It wouldn't be in until the end of the week due to the Holiday (New Years). We said OK, although we found this puzzling, since a house panel seems like a routine item. We were contacted again the day after New Years and were told that the part had not been ordered (Thur) and that they had to come look at the electric panel and then order the part. This was inconvenient, but my husband left work and met the electrician so he could look at the job. At that time, they also gave us an estimate for the two other jobs. The two other jobs - installing an electric outlet over the stove in place of the current range hood and providing and installing a bathroom fan were priced $430. We thought that was expensive, but wanted to get it done prior to move in, so said go ahead. Miraculously, even though they hadn't ordered the part, they apparently were able to locate one in Jacksonville??? on Thursday afternoon (1/2/14) and set up the install for the following day. (Fri - 1/3/14) starting at 8a. Electrician arrived on Friday at 8a to start install. Started and then realized that he didn't have all the parts (after he removed existing panel) and had to call someone to bring the additional part. While waiting started the other two jobs. We also wanted the electric switch moved in the bathroom, but this was beyond his capability, despite sawing a hole in our drywall which we had to repair. The fan they provided was low-grade quality. We just wanted it installed and so agreed to let them put it in and can upgrade later. My husband was around most of the day with the electrician. He said he was talking on his cell phone most of the time he was working either calling back to the office or speaking with his girlfriend. He was sure that slowed him down and is not the most efficient or professional way to provide services to clients. After the other person from the firm came with the additional piece, they finished replacement of the panel. It took from 8a-3p for them to do this job. We also requested an additional outlet by our fireplace, but that was too difficult according to them, so will contact another electrician at some point in the future. We had an inspection earlier this week by Jacksonville inspector who after a 30 second review passed the panel replacement. Subsequent to that we had Lowes come to install the microwave. They sent an electrician to do the install. He said there was a loose wire in the microwave electric connection and had to trouble shoot that. He also said that the one of the panel fuses was wired incorrectly and tested all the fuses for us and re-wired the incorrect fuse. My husband called Thompson and they said they stood by their work and didn't believe the Lowes' electrician. They said they would give us a discount off another service call. We will not be using them again. We are lucky we did not have an electric fire if in fact the panel fuse was misrouted and the loose electric wire was not connected in the microwave outlet. This was a disappointing experience with a licensed electrician. We are disappointed in our first Angies list experience with a provider. Hopefully future experiences will be better.
Description of Work: Replaced the whole house electric panel including surge protector Installed electric outlet for microwave (over stove) Installed bathroom fan
