I called for an estimate and the most good I can say is that the receptionist was polite. She handed my call off to another gentleman that was completely rude and talked to me like I was stupid. My house has cloth insulated wiring and has an updated circuit breaker box but the rest of the wiring is in terrible condition. I’ve pulled the permits for the house so I knew all the previous work done and yet the man still questioned me and even tried to talk me out of the job. First he asked how I knew the house had cloth wiring and then told me that a lot of houses have cloth wiring and are “perfectly fine and don’t need to be rewired”. Really? Secondly, I explained that I would prefer not to tear up the walls ( I didn’t say I would be against it at all) but instead of educating me politely, he said “well, I wouldn’t touch it. The job is next to impossible. If someone is telling you otherwise, you better run to them and sign them up”. How rude!

Had dealt with Thompson Electric several times before for small jobs and always found them to be professional and very customer focused, so when I decided to do something more they were the ones I called. They provided what I felt was a fair estimate and I agreed to it without inquiring about any warranty information. While installing the LED lights, the electrician casually mentioned there was a warranty on the LED bulbs for 1 year, which would have never occurred to me. Before the electrician left he told me one of the front porch light covers was "loose" and showed me how it moved back and forth when he pushed it. My only concern at that point was whether or not water could get in and he assured me it couldn't. About 3 weeks later I noticed the cover was hanging by one side and looked like it was about to fall off. I called them and explained the situation to their receptionist. She spoke to someone and told me this was not covered under the warranty and it would be $95 for a service call to check on this. I reminded her of what the electrician had told me about the cover being "loose" and that it was less than a month after the service had been performed. She said she would have to refer my request to the owner and he would get back in touch with me. After not hearing from anyone for a couple of days I called back and told her I assumed there had been no change in their position, but I would like a copy of what was covered by the warranty, thinking about the LED light warranty mentioned during installation, and that they could send it via email. My impression was that it would be sent. As of today, I have not received a copy of the warranty and the other side of that porch light cover has also come loose. The cover is currently taped to the porch ceiling to keep it in place. The LED lights and one of the porch lights are working as expected and I have made arrangements to fix the problem with the porch light cover. I doubt having a piece of paper detailing a warranty is worth anything at this point.

I like that they were very quick. They were able to resolve the issue quickly. However, there was an issue that was unresolved. When I went to turn on the power, a local circuit breaker needed to be turned on manually. I was not going to do it so I missed my appointment. I still have to get that fixed before the electricity can be turned on.

The guy who came out for the estimate was great, but the crew sent for repairs was awful and made me very uncomfortable in my own home I'm a disabled vet with PTSD and I have my own issues, but you do not come into my home claiming you have full access to my privacy. They almost drilled a hole through a beam of a flat roof. They installed my kiln on an existing breaker, which is not allowed - kilns are required to have their own breakers. They didn't tell me what they were doing as they went so I was barely able to keep up with what they were doing to avoid problems.

The technician was on time and introduced himself. He worked well - checked all the major appliances and measured distances etc. I had purchased a Big Deal for a panel upgrade and whole house surge protector to be installed. The tech told me that since I didn't have 200A service they'd need to do an upgrade prior to installing the panel. It made sense to me (and that was my goal going in) - however, when I got competing quotes from 2 other companies they quickly identified that I do have 200 A service - its just running to a box that is on the exterior of my house. I am not sure how the first tech missed that detail because I know he walked around the house.
Description of Work: Gave an estimate to upgrade service to 200A along with wiring a 3 way switch and connecting hot water heater.

Service was fair. I had to initiate contact after a week after paying for the service via Angie's List. Once contact was made they were initially reluctant to provide me a date and time due to may location in Yulee. I spoke with Fred the service manager and finally arranged a date and time to conduct an initial inspection of my electrical panel to ensure my panel was compatible and within code. During the initial inspection, I was informed that I needed a sub panel and not the a new panel which I had already purchased. They told me however they would install the sub panel and the price quoted via Angie's list at no additional cost. I went ahead with the service and two days later they installed a sub panel and some additional work to my sprinkler pump outside the agreement via Angie's list. The installation and professionalism of the installer was fair. They didn't do a great job cleaning up and the drywall patching was average. They didn't do a great job labeling my electrical panel ( I had to remind the technician). I would NOT recommend for service in Nassau Co.

From the day we purchased our home, the home inspector told us we would need a new electrical panel.he said that because the type of panel we had was often recalled and had too many twin circuits. That was four years ago, so i was happy to take advantage of this Angie's List deal. The employee came out on time, was very professional , stayed late to ensure the work was done right. I asked the employee about the surge protector portion of the deal ,he knew nothing about it. Update: The City inspector was here today to inspect the new panel and surge protector. He turned to me and said "Thompson Electric does a great job".

The technician was nice, had been here before. I'm not sure if he actually checked all the outlets that I asked, because it wasn't notated on the invoice he emailed me. He completed the other 3 tasks I asked him to perform and I am satisfied with them. The problem I encountered was with their office staff. I asked them to contact me via cell # in order for me to leave work and meet them at the house. The competence level required for such a request eludes the ladies at Thompson. I got home and there were 4 messages on my home phone and they said they didn't have my cell, could they send someone tomorrow. NO.....so I guess they found someone because he showed up about 30 minutes later. I just don't need the stress, I have enough of that already. They seemed to be higher priced than I remember also.

They did not give an estimate over the phone and came out to look at what needed to be done and provide an estimate. The estimate seemed on the high end compared to other electricians that we have dealt with in the past. We felt pressured to get the work done because they were going to charge us a fairly significant service fee just for them providing an estimate in person, if we did not have the work done right then and there. We hesitantly agreed to the service and they went ahead installed the junction box and the new switch onto an area that had an existing outlet with a switch. This switch controlled a ceiling fan on our porch. Now we are no longer able to turn the fan off, even though we were able to before they came out. When I went to install the new light onto the junction box they installed, the wire was still "hot" even though I had the switch turned into the "off" position. I received a significant electrical shock due to this. I called them to speak to them about this and just wanted them to come out to investigate and verify their work without us incurring any additional charges , since a fan that we could switch off before is no longer able to be turned off. I figured they would have no problem coming out and verifying their work without a charge. They however were very condescending and they started saying that we asked them to make the switch "hot" all of the time. We never asked them to make the switch "hot" all of the time. The whole point of getting a switch installed was so that we could turn it on and off. Why would anyone get a switch installed that cannot be turned off - what is the point of having a switch that doesn't work? The man we spoke to, just kept saying how they have been in business for 20 years and how they know what they are doing. I don't doubt that they do, but mistakes happen. The fact that they are not even willing to consider that they made a mistake and come out free of charge to validate that is ridiculous.
Description of Work: We had a junction box installed for an outside light and they added a switch to control the junction box. This required them to install a new outlet and switch.

Mr [Member Name Removed] said the work is over priced.. I cant see how , he was quoted before we started . We have a commencement signature. There wasn't any pressure. If you notice Mr. [Member Name Removed] is referring to hot, black wires ? The reason is, he insisted on installing his own ceiling fan. Obviously he was unsuccessful because he wanted our company to come out an correct his work. He was told we warranty our work free of charge. But if it was something he did , by policy there would be a charge. He refused again. This is clearly a customer impossible to please.

Scheduled to have an electrician come out to fix 3 non working outlets. I allotted 3 hours to do the job. Electrician showed up 2 hours late! I had to call after a half hour when no one showed up to find out where they were. I should have been called to let me know they were running behind and given an approximate time. When I finally did get a call that he was on his way, it was another hour before he showed up.

They require a 4 hour window. They tell you that they will waive their $95 call out fee if you have them do the work. I requested a call before they came since neither I nor my fiancé could be there the entire window since we work. I called two hours into the 4 hour window to see if I could get an idea of their arrival. The very rude receptionist responded "we will call you like you asked us to and we are running late". I let her know that if they were going to be after 2 (which was the end of the 4 hours) I would have to call them back to discuss since that would likely be an issue of having someone available. They arrived 15 after 2. The tech proceeded to remove 4 light fixtures before checking the outlets. It was an outlet and we gave him the part to use to replace it. He did not quite the price before performing the work. He was there 45 minutes, left the light fixtures down, charged $198 for the "repair", left without giving my fiancé a receipt telling him it would be emailed. I called back to see if I could verify that the $198 did not include the $95 waivable see since it seemed rather steep. I was again rudely spoken to by Kylie the receptionist. She told me until the tech came in she could not verify anything but that he would not have charged the $95 and did not believe he did not quote the price before beginning to do the work. Basically calling me a liar. She said she would call me the next day and never did. I called back today (January 27) and was told I would have to speak to Mr. Thompson. I did explain that I was at lunch, calling on my lunch hour and was told it would be soon. He called, but I was not able to take the call, however, did return the call. He was rude when he got on the phone, condescending and interrupting me, and basically brushed off my concerns. He even told me that he considers showing up 15 minutes after the 4 hour window successful in his mind and I seem like I am just a difficult person to please. He refused to give me a breakdown of the charges and told me my fiancé was lying about not being quoted the price before his technician started working. I can understand running late, and I can understand wanting to defend your employees bad behavior, but I refuse to be treated condescending and like my business is inconsequential. Maybe it was because I was a woman; he certainly used the word "ma'am" in a very demeaning tone. I will never use these people and believe they run a shady business. Mr. Thompson has no customer service skills and treated me like I was just a fly to be swatted away. I have never been more offended or treated so disrespectfully.

10 minute job cost $200. Called the main office to understand charges, he said they always quote before they do the work so you know what you're buying and can make an informed decision. However, the electrician most certainly did not quote, did the quick job and charged $200 to insert a breaker into an already wired slot. Plus, the Angie's List deal is no deal at all, the charge includes nothing for the job itself and just goes towards the cost of the job. So Angie's deal could have been FREE, job still would have been $200! I guess if you chose not to use them, then it would have reduced the service call cost (from $120 to $70). But not using the guy for the job at hand probably never happens. Misleading. Not sure if that's Thompson or Angie, either way it was a non-deal "deal".

He came in and checked all the electrical outlets in the rooms without power and when everything looked good, he went into the attic and found a severed electrical wire which he repaired and all was good. He did spend approximately 1 1/2 hours and I was charged a little more for having same day appointment but it was well worth it. I work on my computer and could not use it or the internet due to this loss of power. I was very pleased with everything from the time I called the service to the time he finished and left my house. I will definitely use Thompson Electric again and recommend Thompson. This was not a big major project but it was handled well.
Description of Work: Initially I called the company and needed someone to come out that day. I did get an appointment after another provider on Angies list said they don't do same day appointments. When I said the electric was out of half the house he felt that it warranted same day visit. Jerry called before he came and it was within 2 hours of my call.
