Over the years we've replace many of the major components. The most dramatic in terms of savings was the installation of the variable speed pump. It replaced 3 separate pumps and significantly reduced our utility bill. Whenever an issue arises, such as Hurricane Matthew, the crew is here ensuring that the pool remains at peak performance.
Description of Work: Our pool is old, full of quirks and is quite deep. Until Rick and the Paradise team took over weekly maintenance it was a nightmare and professional service was difficult to find. The team has been servicing our pool for almost 10 years now and it sparkles!

Perfect! Could not be happier with the work done. Rick was always responsive and checked on the progress of the work all the time. All my questions were fully addressed. The timetable of doing the complete job was good, none of this "here we are and then gone for two days" Would recommend Paradise Pools!

Started April 22nd with pool draining and all work finished and equipment turned for first time on May 6th. Salt water "conversion" started June 7th. It was a pleasure dealing with Rick and his team. Very Professional and answered all the myriad of questions we had. We highly recommend them if you need your pool and/or mechanicals redone.

Things went fine for a few months. They are not the cheapest but the platinum level included washing of the deck which was great. However, over the past few months the pool cleaning has been less and less through. Issues included coming home to find the hose filling up the pool with no one home and leaving the lanai doors open. I cancelled my service when I came home the day my pool had been serviced and noted dirt in the bottom. This was not just one area, but a large ring. It appeared it had not been vacuumed. I took photos (even a video) of what I found but i dont think angies lets me upload those. If they do I'll update this review.

We appreciate the opportunity to work with this member. The challenges the pool exhibited provided us with opportunities to solve long term problems the customer was experiencing. Some work was done in house while other portions of the entire project were completed by our experienced subs that are craftsmen in their own right, dedicated to their individual craft on each job, not several different types of work. Thank you to this member for the confidence they showed in our ability to exceed their expectations!

They were the most professional out of the 5 places we contacted for quotes. They were the only company that had a detailed written quote. Suggestion, what is on the paper is what they do, so make sure you have all the details written down for ease of installation, clarify, clarify ask questions if in doubt. Only company that brought samples to put in the water so you could actually see the color, they look VERY different when in the pool. Bringing samples to the house was a great advantage than going to a showroom. Only company the chipped out all the old wall fittings and replaced with new. That looks soooo much nicer to have everything look new. We bit the bullet and put in a heater, WOW great heater. When we started it up the heater the pool warmed up in 3 hours. It is now November and it takes longer to heat because night temperatures are in the 60,s. However I can now swim in November and I that is wonderful. If you are thinking it cost more to heat, of course it does, but how much do we spend at the gym?? We also decided to buy the Easy Touch remote system, highly recommend. With the touch of a button, magic, the valves are turned and my whirlpool comes on. Not cheap, but worth it, it controls the heat, lights, whirlpool and more. The surface finish is beautiful. They had to use our old tile and have the surface blend up to it, you could not tell that it was a new finish because it blended perfectly to the old tile. We added Abalone to the finish and Rick let us know that spots might be heavier with Abalone (sparkle) it was not, very pretty. Hand rails we needed because getting out is not as easy as it use to be. Some companies would only sell the stainless steel that have to be grounded which means they dig a trench in your deck surface WHY make this mess. Installed Saftron pool handle in a matching color they are great. Overall recommend Paradise, only suggestion is get everything in writing to eliminate confusion.
Description of Work: Resurfaced the pool, installed hand rails, new lighting, easy touch wi fi control, and installed heater.

Now the specifics: Rick performed a-lot of work during this renovation. 1. Pool Resurface. The pool was resurfaced with Stonescapes Aqua Blue regular Pebbles. I upgraded the finish with the addition of 2 bag Touch of Glass Blue Bead. This was a $1,215 upgrade, but well worth the money as it greatly enhanced the overall appearance. New Tile was installed in the waterline. Rick uses a local wholesale distributor who's warehouse you can actually visit. I liked the idea that you can actually see the tiles/finishes before you make your selection. The warehouse staff was very friendly and helpful. 2.Waterfall Installation. A custom Rico Rock 28" waterfall was part of the renovation. Rick did warn me ahead of time that re-plumbing may be necessary in order to obtain proper GPM flow. He performed testing BEFORE ordering the waterfall, and gave me an estimate of the cost involved. I appreciate that he tried to minimize the "surprises" before committing to the install! I was able to meet with the subcontractor, and go over the details of this phase of the renovation, in order to have a customized result. 3.Pool Deck Resurfacing. I was able to meet with the Subcontractor in order to go over my options for a deck resurface. I decided on a Hand Trowled Slate texture with a flagstone pattern which utilizes the natural cracks in the deck/foundation to provide a durable yet aesthetic pattern. The end result in a stone-like appearance at a fraction of the cost of laying stone. finnally, an accent band was placed around the pool beam, which tied in the waterfall and deck. 4. For the Mechanical: A Pentair C&C 150 Filter assembly and Auto Pilot Nano salt/Chlorine generator were installed 5. A one month pool service/start-up service by Paradise Pools was included in this project. I had contacted several contractors at the start of this project. Rick was one of the first to respond and provide an estimate. Several never even responded. I will say that Pool contractors are very busy, so give the process about 5-6 months from initiation to completion! Rick was very responsive to inquiries, and was flexible in meeting with me to discuss the project. His prices may not be the cheapest in town, but you definitely get what you pay for! I was impressed with the professionalism of his Subs. They kept a clean job site, and where concerned about maintaining the integrity of my property. All-in-All, very positive experience with Paradise Pools!!
Description of Work: Resurfaced pool, resurfaced deck and additional covered area, added Rico Rock waterfall, installed chlorine generator, installed new filter system and provided one month of follow-up pool care.

I should start off by saying that at the time I called for a quote, Paradise Pool had been providing my weekly pool service (at $2,100 a year). Since I have had a good experience with everyone who has been out to the house to service and clean the pool, I called Paradise Pools first. I had every intent to have them replace the pump for me, assuming their estimate would be inline with other quotes. I have been researching various options for some time and had an idea of what I was expecting. I called and spoke to the owner, let him know my old pump motor had died while I was out of town, and that I would like to replace it with a variable speed pump. We spoke briefly about the benefits of installing a variable speed pump, and informed me that it would cost $1,665.00 to install a Pentair IntelliFlo VS+SVRS. Having read MANY reviews stating the SVRS (Safety Vacuum Release System) can be problematic if you have roof mounted solar heaters, I stated I would prefer to install the regular (less expensive) IntelliFlo VS. I mentioned that the pump can be ordered online for about $860.00 and asked for a breakdown of what was included in his $1,665.00 quote. The owner told me "we can't get the pump for that price" and told me if I ordered the pump online I would "only have a 60 day warranty." This is where I was rubbed the wrong way. I admit I can't say for sure, but I can't help but think he was purposefully attempting to mislead me in an attempt to get me to purchase from him by quoting the out of box parts only 60 day warranty. The actual warranty is: (Bold added by me) Pentair offers a three- (3) year extended warranty on the following products when they are installed by a qualified installer and registered within sixty (60) days from the date of installation:Energy-saving IntelliFlo® and IntelliPro® Variable Speed Pumps. *NOTE: Please keep the original sales receipt as proof of purchase and save the qualified installer?s invoice and date of installation when you register your product(s). I stated I was going to get a few more quotes and asked for an estimate, preferably with a breakdown of parts and labor, to be emailed to me. He told me $1,665 was their price, but made it sound like he would email me a quote. Nothing was ever sent, and no follow up calls were ever made so I am assuming he decided taking care of a current customer wasn't that important. I ended up ordering the exact pump I wanted, and went on Pentair's website to find a Pentair certified installer to install the pump. The company I ended up using was happy to lay out how much they would charge per hour, what was included, and how long it would take. Since Paradise Pool Service refused to do this, I had no way of knowing what was involved in the standard installation, and if something came up or if extra work was required how much it would be. I would be agreeing to start at $1,665 and who knows what from there. I ended up having a little extra work done, and was able to easily figure out how much it would cost due to the installers forthright nature, something sorely lacking in my experience with Paradise Pools.
Description of Work: I contacted Paradise Pool Service for a quote to replace my old pump with a new variable speed pump.

We did contact the customer back as requested and he is right we did not e-mail him a written quote for that one item. It is true we do not break out labor and material on every item we install. It is true, as we stated to the member, that the IntelliFlo pump has a 60 day warranty unless installed by a certified Pentair installer. The member eliminated this portion of the limited warranty from the warranty card that he attached to his review. It is also true that we do not install internet purchased equipment. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding? The price quoted to the member was the price for the VS pump installed complete “no strings” attached. We have contacted this member on several occasions from the date of his review to try to understand and resolve his issue to his satisfaction and to provide our perspective of the situation, but to no avail. As an independent business we try to make decisions that benefit our customers but also help to keep the business alive. We work hard to make things right by our customers and then the relationship is mutually beneficial. Now and then not every customer agrees with those decisions and we must part ways. We are satisfied that this member was able to get his work completed the way he required and regret we were unable to meet his needs in the way he wanted.

I couldn't be happier. The owner came out and personally reviewed my needs and then returned personally to sit down face to face and discuss the system and it's benefits. My electricity bill has gone down and my pool has never looked this good in the 18 years I have lived in the house. I can now swim all day with my son and not get the chlorine eyes I used to get. With their monthly service the pool stays clean and is always ready for family and friends. I would highly recommend Paradise Pools to any one.
Description of Work: New high efficiency programable multi speed pool pump, new cartridge filter assembly, new salt water system, new multi-color LED pool light. Thanks to Rick our pool looks great. We truly appreciate his patience and efforts to help us make the best decision on surface material and tile color. it looks like a brand new pool and we are very happy with it. The only hiccups were with the sub installing the surface material. They had to start then stop because of a delay in getting some return fixtures then in doing the work made a mess. That said, all of our remodeling causes a mess so we consider that a minor problem. We are now using their weekly pool service and are very, very pleased with that as well.

Responsiveness - Paradise said they cannot get back to us for a year, 2 quarter of 2016. They must be that good, but they cannot provide service to anyone not in their 1 year schedule. Being on Angie's List is not necessary for them if their reputation and bookings are so far out.

This inquiry came in via Angie's e mail and we did not see it right away. Angie's list usually notifies us when a message comes in but not in this case. We responded within a few days of finding this message. We are thankful for reviews and all of the business we are fortunate to have this year. It is very busy since we are now into swim season and we may not be able to return calls right away. But we will get back to inquiries as soon as we can. Contrary to this members statements we are booked through mid fourth quarter this year for renovations and new construction but we can and do provide service and repairs year around. We are not booked out for a year on anything. So his statement regarding we can't provide service for a year is untrue. We will continue to hire and train to meet the work load of 2015. And if we can't get back to you right away please try calling us again or if you can't wait then we would much rather see you hire someone else than get into a critical situation on your pool. Thanks everyone for your patience in this busy time of year

As stated in an earlier review Rick Schmitz, the owner, has done a great job with Paradise Pool over the years, however, recent events have not reflected the level of service years ago. We have used Paradise Pool for a number of years but, since the beginning of 2015 there have been a number of problems. In January, 2015 our pool was acid washed for the second time in seven years. The first time was fine, the most recent wasn?t. After the pool was cleaned it started leaking about a half-inch of water per day. That was fixed after about a week. Dust continually clogged the filter as a result of over acid washing which took a significant effort on our part to fix. When the employee who acid washed the pool was asked about dark spots in the center of the pool he said that it was dirt that would go away eventually. We were continually told someone would come out and clean it. Three months later we were told by Rick that the surface had been removed as a result of the acid washing because the surface was old. Subsequent to that we found out that when acid is left on the surface, it will destroy that part of the surface if not handled properly. If the acid is allowed to sit too long on the surface or not cleaned properly it may burn through. This should not have been a problem with this pool because the marcite is in excess of ½ inch. It was also pointed out if not done properly deterioration like this most often happens at the lowest point of the pool ? which is where the damage was done to our pool. Paradise Pool was asked to maintain the pool weekly between March and April. Upon return the pool did not look good. We later found that there was no chlorine in the pool and the Alkalinity levels were low. There was no flow in the pool because it needed to be backwashed and the pool cleaner was not working properly. None of this was ever mentioned on the weekly door hanger that stated ?pool serviced today.? All of this was discussed with Rick and nothing is being done; his response was that he fired the employee and hopes we?ll give Paradise Pool another chance. Not only was this a waste of money, the pool has been damaged which will result in costly repairs.

We would respectfully like to comment on this review. This pool finish is 16 years old and had been acid washed once before. When the member requested a second acid wash in January 2014 we informed her that due to the age of the pool and the fact that it had been acid washed before a second acid wash had the potential to expose concrete in the pool shell. We suggested a pool resurface as an option. The member was quoted an acid wash and deck resurfacing in February 2014 which they did neither. In January of 2015 the member opted for the acid wash and a light acid wash was performed. The member did not want to spend the money on a new surface. As informed could happen, the pool showed areas with exposed concrete. The comment about leaving acid set too long was the member’s assessment of what may have happened based on information from someone who was not physically at the jobsite during the acid wash nor involved in the pool’s surface history. Although we feel we gave the member a forewarning of the potential for this to happen, we’ve since contacted the member in an effort to make things right. We have offered to apply the cost of the acid wash towards resurfacing of the 16 year old pool. We have not received a response back to our offer.

Pool pump stopped working and contacting Paradise Pools and they scheduled someone to come out the next day. They gave me a 2 hour window and I informed them during that 2 hour window there was a specific 20 minute window where I had to take my son to school. So of course I see their truck driving past me on the way out to drop him off. When I return minutes later their representative is already in his truck and comes out to tell me that the pump motor is shot and would cost just under $600 to replace or could go with a new VS pump install for $1600. I told them nothing at that time as I needed to talk to my wife, but to provide an actual quote (never received). Then paid them their $90 fee (which could then be applied to any work done). I then called around to get new quotes on a new pump with installation, the first one I called said they would need to come out to provide a proper quote. During the quote with me outside he was curious and opened the back of the pump motor and said the only issue was the capacitor was blown. And it was very obvious that capacitor was done even to my eyes. They called around and found a replacement capacitor and that along with the service call on the weekend, the pump was back up and running for less that $150. So obviously the rep from Paradise Pools did not even open up the back of the motor and if he did thats even worse. Just feel like they went to my house and stole money from me. Should have suspected when the rep even said to me he was just starting out and had moved over from cleaning to repair crews. Its kind of shocking when you see how many good reviews they have on Angie's List. We were even considering going to them for a quote on redoing out pool deck but not anymore. "Upon our technicians arrival he saw member departing his driveway and decided to diagnose the problem in his absence so that he could report back his findings when the member returned." Not even remotely true as I passed the truck about 3/4 a mile from my house. I was well aware of the $90 diagnostic fee but that should at least include telling me the capacitor was the problem at this juncture even if you recommend otherwise which did not occur. The first and only thing I was told was that the motor needed to replaced or the entire unit. Only after that did I mention the capacitor and the reason I was having someone else handle was because of back issues.
Description of Work: Nothing. Absolutely nothing but incorrectly recommend that I needed to either replace my pump motor or the entire pump.

We attempted to contact this member in an effort to resolve his concerns. We did not receive a response to our efforts and would respectfully like to comment. When we received the service call our office stated that there would be a $90 diagnostic fee and that fee would be waived if our company was used to complete the recommended repair and the member approved. Our technician called and gave a two hour advanced service call notice and the member commented that he may have to leave for a short period of time. Upon our technicians arrival he saw member departing his driveway and decided to diagnose the problem in his absence so that he could report back his findings when the member returned. Upon his diagnosis and due to the age of the motor our technician recommended that the motor be replaced. Member commented that the motor was about 10 years old and that he had recently replaced the capacitor but was unable to do so at this time. As company policy, we do not recommend paying to replace capacitors on older motors as this could happen several times over a couple of years. We always try to recommend what is best for the customer; not to just take care of the problem that exists today but for the life of the equipment being serviced. Member commented that he had been looking to possibly replace the whole pump and was interested in the VS pump; therefore, we verbally quoted the member the option to replace the motor or replace the entire pump with a VS pump as requested. Although the technician may have commented that he recently was promoted from pool cleaner to service technician within our company, his professional experience and background cover both maintenance and service in this industry. The reason for the good reviews, “we try to take care of our customers the way we would expect to be taken care of”. Our goal is to provide a long term solution to our customers’ problems rather than a short term patch that will provide only months of reliability. We apologize to this member if he did not fully understand the reasoning behind our recommendations.

Have been using Paradise Pools to maintain my pool for quite awhile. The owner, Rick Schmitz, is very customer service oriented. The gentleman who has been servicing my pool, Charles, is a great guy. Charles is a joy to work with and is very professional. I check my pool daily and the Paradise service is weekly. It doesn?t happen often but water chemistry can get out of whack in between services due to changes in weather, excess rain, pollen, etc. I recently noticed, after several days of rain and with the weather heating up, that my pool was on the verge of developing algae. There are a few small spots that will show the start of algae a few days before it gets to the point of affecting the clarity/quality of the water. I?ve come to understand that if these issues are handled early it can be cleared up quickly but waiting a day or so can turn the fix into a week long ordeal of brushing and cleaning/running the filter constantly. I called Paradise 2 days before my weekly service was due and a very nice lady answered and said she would let Rick know. That same day Charles came out, leveled the chems, brushed and shocked the pool and left me a note about what he?d done and asked that I let the filter run. Charles came back the next day to check on the progress and clean the filter again. The following day was my usual service day and Charles again cleaned the filter and left me a note that he expected everything would be cleared up by the end of the day. I don't think Paradise is the cheapest service but for the service itself I believe the cost is good. My pool is my sanctuary, my stay-cation spot and entertainment area. If your pool is as important to you as mine is to me ? you?ll want Paradise Pools to service it.

When we move into our current house, Paradise Pool Service was the pool service provider. The pool was in pretty bad shape (green water, algea stains, really dirty, etc.) Before we moved in the previous resident contacted them and they came out and cleaned it up to where it looked pretty good. Once we moved in we also had a leak (about 4-6 inches per week), so we asked them to fix that. They sent their "leak detection specialist" out and he found some loose fittings and calked them. This did not fix the leak. We continued to contact the company and they said they would send the guy back. He may have come back, but the leak never was resolved and we were never contacted again. In the meantime we also asked them to bid on a new pool service. We had to request a quote three times before we actually got a number. Back to the leak... still not fixed, and the guy was now not coming back. In the meantime I hired another company to come out and pressure test all the lines and check everything out. Moral of the story, I think Paradise Pool's owner is probably a good and knowledgeable person, but his company is only as good as the techs he uses and at least the ones I encountered were not very good.

We appreciate your review and would like to respectfully comment. We were not the original homeowners pool service provider, we only performed a pool clean-up for the home sale. When the service request for leak detection was received we performed the leak detection, located and repaired the areas with epoxy putty and returned to check the status days later. Shortly after we completed the repairs we tried several times to contact the customer but were unable to reach him. After several weeks the office finally reached the customer to inquire about the repair and payment for the service and that's when we were informed that the leak was not fixed. We apologized for any inconvenience and requested an opportunity to make it right. The customer declined to allow us to make amends and said he would hire another company. The customer did not have to pay for the service we provided. Admittedly, for a very short time, we experienced difficulties with proper customer communication with a previous employee which has since been resolved. We apologize to the member again for any inconvenience we may have caused and continue to do our best to provide our customers with the service they deserve through exceptional communication and industry knowledge.

Paradise Pools spent some time and helped us put together a pool plan for what our needs were and helped us every step of the way as they implemented the plan. As the progress continued, they gave us options that we could add or adjust. These options were often something really cool I had not thought of . They resurfaced the pool, extended an underwater bench, added a tile round table inside the pool with umbrella, replaced all the decorative tile and lights, added quite a few mosaics, added a handrail, and added travertine to areas that made our deck space more usable. They added a couple of improvements to the pool equipment, as well. A drain was put in that also allowed conduit for speakers and a possible gas line in the future. The overall effect was quite a huge improvement with a terrific balance between aesthetics and function. They came when they said they would come and finished when they said they would finish. They were very good about keeping me informed of the progress and if there was anything I needed to pick out. Communication skills between everyone involved was terrific. They gave me great resources to use to find what materials we needed. Paradise Pools always acted in a highly professional manner and very courteous at all times. Rick and Arthur were fantastic and I would not hesitate to use them in any of my future pool needs.

This review is in response to Rick's response of the review I left on the site and his phone calls to me after he 'found the right phone number left at his office. He did call me the morning of the appointment at a phone number I was not at that day. I was expecting him as a professional to show at the scheduled time that he setup and we agreed upon. His to call me several times before the appointment is not what I expected, to just show up as scheduled was my expectation just as the the four other pool company representatives that I have received estimates from did. One of the messages he left said that my address was in Colorado this whole situation was a lot of errors it just means his company is not the company for me; He may be the one for you. He has tried to make this 'right' by me but has only offered to "show me the phone records" proving he has called. Nothing else. Has not wanted my business at all.

Thanks to the member for editing her review. I apologize for using the wrong number but it was the only one the office gave me. I always call before coming to make sure we are still on.I could not reach her I mapped her address and it did not show anywhere on my map system. I did everything I thought I could do with the info she gave me. I am sorry we did not connect and I wish her the best with her project.

If Paradise does the work themselves I would recommend them, however if they subcontract the work I don't recommend. My pool floor looks splotchy and uneven. There is still caulking that I'm scraping off the pool deck. I do like the owner Rick; he has been very responsive to my calls. Any issues I have had he has always tried to accommodate me, whether it's negotiating or corrections.
Description of Work: Paradise Pool Service did a general check up on the pool. I had them refinish my pool once which left some leaks; it took them a week to find it.

Response from Paradise Pool Service
I appreciate the opportunity to handle this member's pool refinishing. We were not told of any unsatisfactory issues that went unresolved until this review. On rare occasions we do have to go back in and resolve a leak after a refinish but it is a process and the leak was small and took time to locate. It then took a few days to monitor water levels to be sure we had it. Dyed pool finishes have color in them and it is a Cementitious material we are working with and not like a car finish, as a result we always explain a dyed finish may have some shading variations to it. We are in contact with him and are working out any irregularities we may be able to address in the dyed finish. Not too sure about caulking on the pool deck as we never used any caulking in our pool work with him. Our plaster installers work to resolve any issues to our customers satisfaction so whatever generated the comment regarding subs has yet to be understood. In the end we will do our best to respond to this members concerns where possible. Rick

I received my new Angie's List book in the mail and immediately found a service provider that I wanted to contact, Paradise Pool Service. I called Paradise Pools and upon receiving an answering machine, left a message that I was interested in getting my pool serviced. Two days later, I received a call back. Arthur explained that he was busy, yada yada... I went ahead and made an appointment for Friday at noon. He never showed... He never called... This is now Tuesday, 4 days later... I don't think I'll be hearing from Arthur again. Moving onto someone else.

Response from Paradise Pool Service
My apologies to this member. We missed our appointment and have since tried to call the number back. There is no answering machine on her number, it just keeps ringing. We did mention we are backed up and we want to apologize for letting her service call slip between the cracks. It is a rare occurrence but it did happen and we try to do our best to avoid it ever happening. I guess we are human and I would have liked another chance to address her concerns before getting so poorly rated. I appreciate everyone's patience this time of year as I will do my best to return calls as time permits.
