I bought a hybrid hot water heater. It takes the heat out of the air instead of straight electricity. They were one of the few people that I could even buy the thing from, which is why I used them. I did not price around. They had to come out and do some re-plumbing.

Matt(service technician) called about 10am to say he would be here within 30 mins. He was prompt and polite, though not extremely talkative. He proceeded to perform his tasks very professionally. Though I had narrowed down the area where the problem was, he verified that the slab leak was indeed where I had indicated and not elsewhere. He opened a small hole in the floor next to the wall and excavated materials until he reached the problem area of the water line. After cutting out the damaged pipe, he showed me the hole that had appeared in an elbow section and that the rest of the pipe appeared OK. Matt replaced the damaged pipe and allowed the glue to set before turning the water pressure back on. After verifying there were no leaks, he patched the hole and cleaned up the work area nicely. From start to end, the service took approximately two hours. The qouted estimate of $495 covered up to four hours, but sadly, company policy did not allow any reduction in the cost.
Description of Work: Locate and repair slab leak in garage area. Noticed water along wall that backs up to laundry room on Christmas Day. Called David Gray plumbing early 12/26 and they were at my house by 10:45am.

From the minute the plumber walked in the house, I got the impression he did not want to be here. I had a rather long list of things I wanted him to look at/fix. Most of them were minor issues, replacing the shut off valves on the outside faucets, fixing the shut off valves to the inside toilets because they would not turn, fix the garbage disposal that wasn't working and address an issue with the guest bath shower where the pipes were making a high pitched squeal whenever it was turned on. He said he couldn't replace the outside shut off valves. He said he would have to turn on the shower in the guest bath in order to hear it, but would not do so. He did fix the garbage disposal and he did replace the shut off valve for the inside toilets. I paid him via VISA while he was here. I had asked him not to hook up the toilet in our bathroom after replacing the shut off valve because I was going to replace the flushing mechanism inside the tank. When my husband and I went in to the bath to replace the flushing mechanism in the toilet, we discovered that he had not left enough line that went from the cut off valve to the tank for us to reconnect our toilet. So, after a day of work, we were off to Home Depot to purchase the piece in order to be able to hook up the toilet. After that experience we had decided we would not use this company again. Imagine our surprise when 2 months later we get a letter from David Gray Plumbing threatening to send us to collections for not paying our bill. That they had made repeated attempts to collect this debt and now we would have to pay not only the bill, but the cost of collections as well. They have not contacted us in the time between October and now. In fairness, we have gone back through our VISA statements and can't find where the charge ever cleared. But a simple phone call would have fixed that issue. The threatening letter is just one more indicator that we don't ever want to be involved with this company again. Poor customer service, poor professionalism, poor communications all add up to a company that we would not recommend and will not use again.
Description of Work: Thew were supposed to fix shut off valve for the toilet, as it would not turn and shut the water off, fix a garbage disposal and a few other issues around the house.

We called for an appointment, and it was scheduled for September 1, 2011. The night before the appointment - around 5:15PM - we got a call that the technician was on his way. We said that our appointment was for the next morning and as it was approaching dinner hour, a visit now was not convenient. We wanted to keep original appointment. The next morning, we received a call that the technicians were on their way. When two men arrived, they asked where the water heater was that was to be replaced. We said we had no water heater, our issue was a kitchen faucet handle. They said well, since they were here they'd look at it. One technician worked while the other watched. However, they did not have the correct tools with them and we had to take time to look in our own tool box to search for a tool to removed cartridge. Finally, they ended up using my husband's golf divot tool! Of course, the time clock kept on going while we searched for some "tool". They replaced the cartridge and faucet handle, but the handle was somewhat crooked - it was not parallel to the hot water handle. The main technician said that it was sound and would not further move towards the wall, despite not being exactly straight. At this point, we just wanted to get this job finished, so accepted the not-quite-straight faucet since it was working. Just before the job was finished, we received another phone call from David Gray Plumbing saying the faucet technician was on his way. We said the job was just about done so we didn't need him. So, while we were impressed with our original March 2011 experience with David Gray, we were not impressed with this subsequent September experience. The whole appointment situation seemed confused, three separate calls that technicians were on their way, and then we ended up with a team that thought they were to install a water heater and didn't have the right tools for a faucet repair. And we got charged for the entire time they were here - including while my husband searched for some tool that might do the job. Perhaps had we gotten the correct technician, with the correct equipment to repair a faucet, the end result might have been a straighter handle and a less expensive job. We did call the office to report that we got three calls for technicians on their way, and the ones that arrived on the appointed day and time were expecting a completely different repair job that what we had. But the office just said they didn't know what had happened. Anyway, all in all, not the service that we were expecting based on our previous experience. Perhaps David Gray is a victim of their own success, or maybe they just have a bad/confused scheduling process now. But we were disappointed and do not plan to call or use David Gray Plumbing next time we have a plumbing issue.
Description of Work: David Gray had previously come out to repair a kitchen faucet. One of the original issues was the cold water handle had loosened and was moving closer to the wall. This had been addressed (in March) but technician was afraid of cracking the cartridge so did the best he could then, and told us what parts to get from manufacturer (Moen). Since March, the handle had again loosened, this time much worse as it was just touching the wall and we were afraid we would soon not be able to turn off the water. We called Moen, got the necessary parts, and called David Gray to return for the repair, as we had been very pleased with their original work.

Response from David Gray Plumbing
Member, I fully reviewed the circumstances surrounding your service call on 9/1/2011. There most definitely was a mistake made in my office, and I apologize for that. The job notes for another service call in your area were mistakenly entered under your name. There was another client in your area that requested a new water heater to be installed on Friday, August 31 (the day before we were to be at your house). A second service request was entered - correctly - for the sink repair at your house. The tech who arrived at your house on Saturday morning was equipped to install a new water heater, as per the incorrect service ticket. He did not have the proper tools to adjust a Moen faucet. Ths tech did the best he could to complete the repair without the proper tools. The second tech who was to be dispatched to your house was properly equipped to complete a faucet repair. You mention that this was not the service you were expecting. I am very glad to hear that. First, because I am glad to hear that our long history of superior service has made an impression on people. Second, because it is not at all the service I expect my company to deliver. I am highly disappointed in the service we provided you. David Gray Plumbing, Inc. is by no means "a victim of their own success", but we do make mistakes on occasion (despite my best efforts). Please know that my staff and I work every day to provide the best service that we can and to minimize mistakes. Please allow me to refund the $101.25 that you paid for this service call. Someone from my office will be calling you shortly to schedule an appointment to property align the faucet. The call will be completed at no charge to you. It is the least I can do given the trouble we put you through. I trust your husband's golf divot tool is still functioning. Please let me know if not. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Thanks, Gary D. Gray

They are excellent. It’s a large company and it’s not just one guy. They did some work for me recently and I wasn’t living here when they came out to do the job. I don’t know what they did and I don’t know how much the cost was but I just know that the service was good. They did an excellent job for my sister. The price was reasonable. The worker was courteous and professional. We are going to use them from now onwards as our plumber. We will use their services again in the future.

They generally send you a card when they come back out. They’re good. They’re on time and they call when they’re headed towards the house which is great because then you can look out for them. They’ve done a good job in the times that they’ve been here. They are very professional people and they know their business. I’ve never felt that they’ve over charged me. I will use their services again in the future.

We thought they did a great job! He really did a thorough inspection. We would hire them again.
Description of Work: Stoppage with our toilet/drains. They came out, inspected, and discovered the cause of the stoppage was roots in the sewage pipes. They ran a 70ft snake through the drain to clear us the stoppage. The gentleman who came told us that eventually;y the pipe will need to be replaced, and maybe the oak tree where the roots are from will need to come down, but for a shot term solution go to a home improvement store and get some root-x.

I was so frustrated at first, because I didn't think the usual causes of a plugged drain seemed to apply to our problem. Then when John said it might be caused by a "Low Spot" in the drain under the house slab, I was relieved. That was when he called for the other team with the camera. Now I know for sure why we have a problem we have never had, in any of our other homes and our neighbors don't have the same problem. It is the fact that there is that "Low area" in the drain going under the cement slab of the house to the main sewer line. Both Sammie and Jimmy worked hard to find that problem and were surprised to fine that our washing machine (in a laundry closet in the kitchen) is hooked up to it's own drain line to the sewer, which seems to drain well all the time. Sammie even showed my husband and I what the line looked like; where the water was laying in the pipe and where they had to punch through and clear the blockage to make the pipe drain out. They were professional and informative as well as careful and cleaned up and left a spotless worksight when they left. Because we had the problem with the low spot, Sammie waved the camera fee and gave us $10.00 coupon off the $111.25 invoice of $101.25. My husband and I were very pleased with this experience.
Description of Work: Our kitchen drain was draining very slowly and getting stopped up often. We have had to have plumbers come and clear the drain about once each year. I wanted to know why it had been happening for the past 4 - 5 years and not before that. Also, we do not put grease down the drain or use our garbage disposal We don't rinse messy dishes into the sink but wipe them into the garbage before putting them into the dishwasher. I called David Gray Plumbing late in the day hoping they could resolve the problem. Nichole said they would send someone between 10:00 am and 1:00 PM the next day. John and another worker arrived on time, but had no drain camera and couldn't find the reason for the stoppage every year. John thought it may be possible there was a "low spot" in the drain going to the main sewer line and "gunk" would build up over time and cause the low spot not to drain. He called the office to see if they could send a crew with a camera. Very soon after Sammie and Jimmy arrived with a snake and camera. They snaked the drain (from the roof) and then sent the camera into the drain (from the sink drain) and sure enough, they found a "low spot" in the drain under the cement slab of the house. The water filled the drian pipe, but they punched through a blockage and then the water flowed out , but some stayed in the low area of the pipe. They again snaked the drain with a blade to clear out more of the crud-scale. They told us there may be several ways to correct the problem; either by running a new sewer line around the outside of the house, or just get it snaked out once a year. We are thinking about the possiblities, but most likely, witll get it snaked once a year.

I called David Gray Plumbing 4-28-11 at 8:58am and talked with Stephanie. I told her that I had a kitchen sink drain stopped up. She said that she would have someone out as soon as possible. She also told me that the charge was $89 per hour with a one hour minimum. At 10:23am Scott called to say that he was on his way. He got here at about 10:30. Within about 30 minutes Scott had the drain cleared and running. He also reinstalled the drain lines for the sink which I had removed. The charge was $85 plus a $5 fuel charge. I had a coupon printed from Angie's List for $10 off, so the total charge was $80. I was very happy with the response time. It was about two hours from the time I called for service until my drain was clear and running. I will use this provider again.

We called David Gray Plumbing after reading reviews in Angie's List. David Gray Plumbing responded quickly, and we scheduled our appointment within two days. Our technician, Corie Johnson, arrived right on time, was very professional, knowledgeable, patiently explained what he was doing and why, and with some "muscle required" for a stuck cartridge, was able to repair our faucet. He didn't waste any time, was very neat and careful, answered all our questions, and wrote out what he had done and parts we might want to acquire for future use (under our warranty from Moen). All in all it was a successful and very satisfactory experience for us. We will definitely use them again for any of our plumbing needs. (As a side note, last plumber we had called a while back required two telephone calls, two weeks of delays and never did show up so David Gray was a real pleasure!)
Description of Work: Had a leak in a kitchen faucet in three places, and needed plumbing assistance with the repair. The plumber was able to effect the repair quickly and effectively.
