I'm happy with the work that was completed. The issue I have is how I was billed for the labor. When making the appointment, I was told the labor cost is $98 for the 1st 45 minutes and $24 for each additional 15 minutes. I was charged for an hour and 1/2 of labor. However, I know he work did NOT take an hour and 1/2 to complete; it was an hour and 15 minutes. What I wasn't told, is that I would be charged starting the minute their truck pulls into my driveway until the minute they leave. This means that the time the worker is writing up my invoice, I'm being charged. The time it took him to call in my credit card to pay for the service, I'm getting charged. The time it took him to call the office to make sure he could give me an angies list discount without the printed coupon, I'm getting charged. According to Cindy at their office, they go by the GPS on the truck to determine how long they are there. I have no problem paying someone but being charged during the time they are writing the invoice doesn't seem right. I will not be using this company for work in the future and if I hear of anyone using them, I will be sure to let them know how they determine their time and labor charges.

Response from David Gray Plumbing
Ms. [member name removed], I am very glad to hear that the plumbing work performed by company was to your satisfaction. It appears that my office was entirely upfront about our billing rates, and the technician was consistent with my office's explanation of the billing rate. I regret that you feel misled, but writing up the ticket and processing payment is very much a part of the service call. I understand and appreciate that you will be taking your future plumbing business elsewhere. That is certainly your option. However, I expect that you will find that other company will bill for that time as well - either directly or in the form of higher rates. And you would be risking them not doing the quality of work that we did for you... Regards, Gary D. Gray

This is the second time I have used david .gray plumbing and they are excellent. They are always professional and friendly and they do not waste time. I purchased and had installed a new toilet earlier this year. They removed the old toilet and completed the new installation very quickly. Both times they completely remove and clean up the work area and again have been friendly and professional. They are now my go to plumbing company. Thank you David Gray Co.

This was a service/repair call that went much better than we expected. Techs Tommy and Jacob were polite, mindful of protecting inside our home. It was raining cats and dogs but they took their shoes off and did all they could to ensure nothing inside was dirtied up. We called the David Gray number in the morning and was assured they would have a plumber on the way by early afternoon and that they would call 30 minutes prior to their arrival and that is exactly what happened! Next time we need the services of a plumber, the David Gray Company will certainly be the company we choose. Thanks Tommy and Jacob for the timely and professional manner you displayed while in our home.

I called on Monday morning at about 8:30am and they said they could have someone at my house by 1:00pm. I got a call back at about 12:30pm telling me that someone was on their way and would be there shortly. The plumber's name was Don and he arrived on time as promised. I explained the problem with my leaky shower. I was dreading this call because I had contacted a plumber from a different company previously who told me he wasn't going to be able to repair it without breaking the valve, which would cost over $600 (in labor!) plus parts to replace. Much to my surprise, Don told me that he was confident he could fix it without breaking the valve and that it wouldn't take much time at all to complete. Before I knew it, he was done and my shower was no longer leaking! I had an Angie's List coupon which saved me $20 so the total bill was $145. After expecting a much more expensive and involved repair, this was a huge relief! I was so pleased with Don's professionalism and his ability to fix the leak without wasting any time. I'll definitely call David Gray plumbing again for any future needs I have.

Please read my previous post regarding the garbage disposal issue on 7/29. This is the update, with an "A" rating. I kept the original post to explain the original problem, and to show that the company truly made the effort to satisfy its customers. Immediately after I wrote the Angie's list review, I received a call from Gary Gray, the son of David Gray. He mentioned that he read my Angie's list post, and was concerned about my garbage disposal issue. He wanted to find out what the company can do to resolve it. I explained to him that I somewhat felt cheated for paying $88 for 2 minutes of work. I also told Gary that I asked the service technician to look at my leaky showerhead, since he was already there and I knew I had to pay anyway. He didn't bother to look at the showerhead because he said he didn't have equipment for that anyway. When Gary heard this, he explained that the technician should've at least looked to determine what the problem was. He also mentioned that there are always managers on call if a technician ever had any issues with payment or discounts, such as my case. To resolve my issue, Gary offered to refund part of my money and also send another plumber to take a look at my showerhead, first hour to be paid by the company. I agreed, and was very happy that the company cared that much about one customer's complaint. This morning, the plumber came on time, and took a look at my showerhead. He was able to determine the cause of the leak, which turned out to be a simple issue. Thank goodness! I am very happy with the outcome and customer service, and highly recommend this company for your plumbing needs. That's why they have the "A" rating. They pay attention to their customers!

I called David Gray's Plumbing because of their A rating on Angie's List. I heavily rely on Angie's list for all service providers. When I called this morning at 8:30 a.m., I asked if they could send someone look at my garbage disposal that stopped working the night prior. The service representative said that someone would be at my home between 9 am and 1 pm, and that I would receive a call 30 minutes prior to someone coming out. At 11 am, I asked if I could get a rough estimate if they would come closer to 1 pm, or earlier since I had to be somewhere by 2:30 p.m.. The representative on the phone said that she could not give an ETA (estimated time of arrival) at the moment. That's fine. I understand. 1:15 p.m. Still no call, no service technician. I called them back since they said someone would be here between 9-1pm. But, the representative said they still did not have an ETA. They said someone will call me 30 minutes prior to coming. 1:30 p.m. Finally a call from David Gray. Someone will be there in 30 minutes 2:30 p.m. Service technician finally shows up. I explained the garbage disposal problem/clog/not running, and that I had turned off power at the main source and turned it back on. Nothing. The technician pressed the reset button on the bottom of the garbage disposal, and that was that. Since I had him there, and didn't want to waste time and money, I asked if he could take a look at my leaky showerhead. He said he doesn't work on showerheads, nor does he have any equipment for it. Charged me $98, but since I had a $10 off coupon, $88. $88 for 2 minutes of work. David Gray seems like a large company that can handle discounts or pro-bono work. If the tech could've charged me half, or given me some sort of discount for his work of simply pressing a button on the bottom of my garbage disposal, I would use David Gray again. However, since the company seems to care just for the dollars and cents, I won't be using them again.
Description of Work: The service provider came to the house to fix my garbage disposal. Turns out, all he had to do was press the bottom button of the garbage disposal. Literally $88 down the drain for 2 minutes of work.

In less than 5 mins, they Techs determined it was the water softener that was leaking- while they do not support Water Softener issues, the gents were kind enough to shut it off for me and remove the standing water. I have been using David Gray Plumbing for several years and have had nothing but SUPERIOR service each time. They arrived at my house within an hour of the call and the service was great -- I highly recommend them -- and their pricing is very reasonable (p.s. since they were here, I asked the gents to replace my drain in the kitchen sink)
Description of Work: I found a very wet floor in my garage and the source was either from the water heater, water softener or the sink next to both. Being unsure of the source, I chose to call the Plumber to at least rule out that this was not a major plumbing. In less than 5 mins, they Techs determined it was the water softener - while they do not support Water Softener issues, the gents were kind enough to shut it off for me and remove the standing water. Response from David Gray Plumbing
We actually did a good job here. The bad review is not fair to us. This issue has been resolved at no charge to the client. We originally addressed a stoppage in April. The stoppage today was a completely different matter. In April, the technician never advised the client that he only worked inside. That is not the case at all. Rather, he advised the client that he was not able to clear the stoppage by means of his sewer snake and that he needed a camera to diagnose the problem. A camera crew was called in to resolve the issue and the issue was fixed right away. 1st call - April 4. Tried to address stoppage with sewer snake. 2nd call - April 4. Used sewer camera to identify broken pipe underground. Fixed. Issue fully resolved. 3rd call - June 27. Cleared hair from shower drain. Entirely different issue, unrelated to April 4. Gary D. Received a call and spoke to the tech. After he left my home. He shared he did his best to stop the leak. But, it would involve more work to be certain. I did not ask price as I was in between meetings. The next day the tenant called, no hot water. The tech. Either adjusted something too much or did something else during the simple leak repair. I called David Gray and shared it was a follow up visit for the initial repair. Come to find out the 2nd call they charged me $150. The first call was $450. You do not know the final bill with this Company until you get the bill in the mail. I was taken back by the 1st bill amount and the second bill floored me. Please keep in mind I do not attend my repairs as these are rental houses. Please also keep in mind you can replace all the parts for a shower drain and new facets for very little money. $450 is a 4 day cruise and an add $150 your living high on the hog. The $150 when I called was apparently returned to me by check as it was a call back. I'm still waiting on that check. It's been 7 days. But, it gets better, the tenant called tonight, the leak is back worse than before. What was the $450 for? Time and effort? I expect long term results for that car price of a plumbing visit for a leak.

Great. Plumber used shake and cleaned the build up of lime and hard water in the system. He did a great job. We have used David Grey for many years and would recommend them to everyone. The did a replumb last year and were fast and thoughtful of the fact that we were without water while the work was done. They even gave us a letter for the water and power comany to explain the large increase in the water on our bill which really helped.

A storm whipped up and blew our porch door open - which slammed into the outside spigot. That caused the pipe to break inside the wall and water started flooding our house. We were able to turn off the main water source - but we called a few top rated services here on Angies List to come out and repair the pipe. We had steered away from David Gray because it had a B rating for price. Since no one else could come on short notice, we tried David Gray. Not only did they show up within the hour after 7PM, they fixed it in under 30 minutes and it only cost $136. We thought that was a very fair price! :)

The was fixed on a long weekend holiday, which is wonderful. David Gray was accessible, responsive and easy to communicate with about the repair and the billing. UPDATE 7/23/14 David Gray was responsive and timely, but the warranty coverage is not clear and work is not guaranteed. Initial Saturday overtime repair was $250. This follow on fix of the previous repair was $159, making a 2 foot pipe repair was $400 so far. Upon calling the office, the person on the phone was unpleasant and defensive. Price is seemingly expensive, having to do it twice. Quality is poor and professionalism is below that which is expected. A good experience turned bad.
Description of Work: Water feed line repair UPDATE 7/11/14 - the repaired water line started leaking again. Thinking this was warranty after the repair a month ago we were suprised to receive an invoice on 7/23/14. This time the plumber included the statement on the invoice that the pipe is paper thin and the whole house needs repiped.

Contacted David Gray Plumbing to get an estimate on major bathroom repairs needed due to damage from a broken water hose. I was told that there would be a charge of $98 for them to come out and do the estimate. I responded that I thought they had advertised free estimates for work to be done, and she replied that it would be $98 for a 45 minute visit in order to give me an estimate. I contacted another plumber and will not be contacting David Gray nor recommending them in the future.

Response from David Gray Plumbing
[Member name removed], I personally listened to the recording of your incoming phone call regarding a broken line under your tub. The individual in my office with whom you spoke certainly should have handled the call better, but her underlying point was correct. We give free estimates on every item of plumbing work that we can, but we cannot give free estimates on repairs that we cannot see. Quoting a price on replacing a tub, installing new fixtures, or repiping a house is easy since it is a clear scope of work and you clearly see the work to be done. However, we can give estimates on work that we can't see. No one here can tell you how long it will take to repair a leak underground, in the wall, or under a tub without first exposing the leak, and we bill that work at $98 for the first hour. That being the case, my office should have better explained this to you. The individual will be coached on this matter so future occurrences can be reduced. I apologize for the confusion regarding this circumstance. Gary D. Gray David Gray Plumbing, Inc.
