 + -1 moreI really enjoy these people, they are prompt and responsible. The price is very reasonable, too. They are really good people, and when you call them they come quickly. Clean up was done well after they finished.
Description of Work: I had them remove a tile roof, and then they installed an asphalt shingle roof on my 1200 square foot home. Everything was cleaned afterward.

 + -1 moreI was given an estimate in September of 2006 but there was a problem matching the tile back then as after Hurricane Wilma many roofing materials were in short supply. I chose to wait until the my exact tile became available even though I was told they would match as close as possible. Then, I put the repair off until I realized Hurricane Season was approaching again. When I called and spoke to Meg I was told that they would honor the original estimate even thought it was almost a year later. The repair crew showed up when they said they would. The foreman Ray checked the leaks inside the house so he could compare and measure exactly where the damage was on the roof. I was impressed by the care and professionalism that everyone demonstrated while at my home. I am very satisfied with the repair, the crew as well as everyone at the office who seem to care about the work that is done and in making the customer happy. I would refer Johnson Roofing to my friends and family.
Description of Work: Earl Johnson Roofing repaired leaks in the existing roof as well as the replacement of many broken tiles which occurred after Hurricane Wilma. After the repair was done a roof-a-cide fungus protection was placed.

 + -1 moreOverall I think things went well, but as a first-timer, I'm not really in a position to compare! I do know the crew was very, VERY hard-working, one has to appreciate their ceaseless efforts mid-July in Miami!! I did experience some frustration when trying to communicate with the crew. My Spanish is poor, and only one worker spoke (some, not much) English. For the most part, Dave was available by phone to intercede when necessary. After the job passed final inspection, I was still uneasy about one aspect of the work. Specifically, I asked Dave if the sealant could be brought to the very outside edges of the parapets, as some of my original ceiling leaks were through the parapets. Though he reassured me it was not necessary, he, without hesitation, got up on the roof that very minute and did it to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: The company responded very quickly to my call for an estimate; Dave came out the very next day. I was told that my roof could be repaired only, but the price was so low, I decided to go for brand-new. I appreciate that Dave did not try to sell me anything, he simply gave me the pros and cons of each choice. We contracted a new "modified" flat roof on my one-story two bedroom home, for a price of $6800. I requested an additional 2.5" layer of insulation on the screened porch, for another $1200. Rotten wood was removed and replaced for a few hundred dollars more. The job got a very slow start due to rainy conditions, but once they got going, it was completed in two days. Old roofing material was removed and disposed of. There was an initial inspection on the first day. Polaroid photos were provided in lieu of a second inspector's visit. Job passed final inspection. The crew did a good job cleaning up, even repainting the garage door which had been spattered with tar.

They still do need to come back for follow-up and take a few tiles off before I would call the job totally complete. I was very pleased with the company in general. I found them to be very responsive. I would refer this company to others in my area.
Description of Work: The roof on my 1,700 square foot house was removed by Earl's Roofing. They then put on an entirely new flat roof.

 + -1 moreWhen Earl W. Johnston came to look at the job they had said they could not give me a price until they knew how much the custom skylight was going to cost. It had to be ordered from the manufacturer. When the skylight was received, the sent out the contractor and he said I am not the person to do the job. They sent out another contractor and he installed the skylight. I did not give a grade on quality of work because a couple of days ago we had another storm and I see moisture between the window panes. I do not know if they will redo the seal without charging me.
Description of Work: Earl W. Johnson installed a new skylight on top of my roof. I do not know the dimensions of the window as it had to be custom made as it is not a standard size skylight. The damaged skylight was removed and the new skylight was installed. The job took 4 weeks to complete.

 + -1 moreEarl W Johnston Roofing is little higher in the pricing than some but lower than others. He does good quality work and is very honest. Some rain got in and caused a little damage while they were working on the roof. He was very professional and took responsibility for it.
Description of Work: I had them remove and dispose of the old roofing and install new barrel tile roofing on our 2600 square foot home. It took a couple of weeks to finish the work.

Not only did Earl Johnston roofing come in close to $7K less than the highest bid, but they were also $3K less than the lowest bid I received. The sales rep set an appointment and came on time. He was knowledgeable and personable. They pulled the permits and set up appointments with the inspectors. They called to inform me of the progress and kept me up-to-date on each step of the job. My neighbor across the street told me had never seen a roofing company lay Visqueen on a driveway to protect it from any damage! I highly recommend their work!
Description of Work: Earl W. Johnston Roofing replaced both my tile and flat roof. They were meticulous in their workmanship and very reliable. They preserved the rain gutters in both the front and the back of the house. When I replaced the roof 17 years ago, the company just tore them off and threw them away! The work crew was responsive and polite. When I called the office with questions, I always got thorough answers. What a pleasure to have work done by a company that makes its customers feel like they really care!

 + -1 moreDavid was prompt and professional when he visited for the estimate. He made recommendations to extend the life of my existing roof without trying to over sell anything. When the came to work on the roof, the electricity was disconnected, but the gentleman working on the repair made arrangements with the neighbor to avoid delay. They power washed the clay roof and treated it with an anti bacterial spray. Overall they all did a great job and I will definitely call them for future roof work.
Description of Work: Minor repair on existing roof over garage and fit clay roof tile around new conduit; pressure clean roof and treat with protective spray.

 + -1 moreI was on the roof practically the entire day watching and was very impressed with the work. The crew took the work very seriously and did a great job. They arrived at 8:00 A.M and after the A/C was removed they dug out the old roof in its entirety. They spent the next two hours scraping and shoveling the entire roof of any remnants of the old roof or insulation. Finally they sealed the entire roof and put down insulation panels over the entire roof with the hot tar. Once that was done they rolled out black tar paper with more hot tar over the insulation. They cut over the edges of the roof and nailed down the flashing. Once that was done they rolled over that with more hot tar the actual roof paper over that. I thought they were done and then they did finish work of more tar to seal the seams and even some kind of tape over the seams and then painted with silver paint. They carefully did all the difficult areas like to the A/C stand and the sides.
Description of Work: I live in a townhouse type community and my roof is flat and at least 15 years old. I have had multiple leaks and needed a new roof. I had a quote from another company to resurface over the old roof for around $4000.00 and Earl Johnston quoted $6000.00 for a brand new roof. I am very glad I decided for a new roof. They completely tore out the old roof which was a mess and did a great job putting in a new roof. My air conditioner is on the roof and I was not prepared that I would have to spend $1000.00 to get an air conditioning company to disconnect the A/C and remove it and re-install it after the roof was done. We had to wait almost a month for the permits from the city for the Roof and the A/C. The city of Pembroke Pines made me put the A/C unit on a new stand and required engineering drawings before approval. In one day they removed my old roof and completely put in a new roof and did a great job. Getting a new roof is very scary and I am very happy with the work they did.

 + -1 moreI ended up using the second roofer I got an estimate from, because, although they wanted the same amount for the skylight area repair, the entire roof was considered and other trouble spots identified and addressed. As a result, I had confidence that the second roofer was really looking out for our best interests and hired him to make all the repairs he found advisable to prevent us from suffering more leak damage.
Description of Work: David came out to give me an estimate on a leak repair around a skylight. The estimate was for $1200, and I was startled that it was so high. He tried explaining it to me, but I really didn't understand why it would be so expensive. He asked whether this was the first estimate we had gotten, and I told him it was. He told me I should get another estimate, so that's what I did.

They only ask for ten percent on signing, 40 percent on tear down, and the rest after the final inspection. They are very honest.

 + -1 moreThe company set up an appointment for an estimate within a week of my first call. Once we signed the contract, which was for a very reasonable price, they came and did the work within 2-3 weeks, which in South Florida is amazing. When one of the areas that had been fixed leaked again after some rain, they came back within a week to fix it, and it has been fine since then. They were very easy and pleasant to deal with, and accommodating in terms of scheduling. Also, we weren't sure how much water damage had been caused from the leak and that was an open question, as there might have been some additional repairs needed, but that was not the case.
Description of Work: Fixed 2 leaks, one on the porch (flat roof, tar & gravel), and one on the tile roof overhang.
