Renovations By Darren

It went great, better than I thought. It looks like a new condo and very different. The work was done in a timely manner and everything was neat and clean. Renovations By Darren had just finished renovating my old bathroom into a new and beautiful spa-like retreat and had just installed a new floor in my living room (see my other review on this company). I was going to wait to have this other work done, but I just wanted to get them before they got too busy. I am so happy with them and have been since I first began to use them back in 2003. I just wish I had enough money to keep them on retainer, as they are the only ones I used for everything that I need done in my condo. They are professional, always arrive on time or earlier, trustworthy, and not only do they throw out their own garbage, but if I leave a garbage bag near the door to throw out on my way out, they take that too. I had a difficult time deciding what to pick from, as far as color for the paint. I was going for a certain look but as there are too many color choices, I was so confused. Darren took his time and asked me so many questions and looked at all of the stuff I was trying to highlight in my living room and together he made my decision much easier. He has a great eye for color and style and as I said in my previous review, when I was picking out the tiles for my bathroom , I could not see anything I liked and was disappointed in the selection at Home Depot. Darren picked different color tiles, laid them out on the counter and designed a pattern that I would have never thought of and it came out spectacular. My condo now looks like something out of House Beautiful magazine. HGTV should hire these guys. I highly recommend and can't wait for my next project. Great service, expert craftsmanship, reliable, trustworthy, great prices and extremely creative. A+.

He was very reliable. He offered me support and advice over the phone. He gave me very good customer service.

No followup or response to inquires for services, though promised followup within 2 days.

He was very punctual. He was very polite. He did a good job. He is very reliable and got the job done in the amount of time he said he was going to get it done.

It went great. Darren was able to get started quickly, as water was leaking into the wall. He showed up each day when he said he was going to be there and everything was performed on schedule. He is very communicative and took the time to discuss the job with me and what was going to be performed. I really can't give him high enough praise.

Darren returned my first call promptly and arrived on time to all appointments that we set. He helped me select and shop for all the materials and fixtures I needed. He helped select the right stuff at the right price and made sure I was getting a good value for my money. I gave Darren my home keys and left on vacation. He called me to give me an update midway through, and everything was completed by the time we returned, except for one hour worth of small details that he finished promptly after we came back. He and his crew were unfailingly polite and courteous, and they cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend him.

These guys really know what they are doing. The quality of the work is top notch. I would guess there is no project in the house these guys are not expert at doing. They show up early and work hard. When they say they are coming they show up. Only downside is they are a bit high priced. However, I think for the peace of mind that you get from knowing the job is going to be done well and in a timely manner you might want to go ahead and pay the extra 10-20% you might get charged over another contractor.

Said he was busy first time called and would call back following week. The following week I called and again said he was busy and would call back. No response.

He said he would call to make an appointment but did not, I would never use someone who makes a commitment and fails to deliver.

I was totally surprised that he did not show given all the positive reports filed for him on the List. Are all the positive reports and awards fraudulent? I guess this experience is what Angie's List is exactly for. One of the worst things about contractors that I do not understand is their tendency to not show-up or cancel scheduled appointments in a professional manner. In what other job can someone get away with not attending to potential customers and expect to stay in business? Is it lack of motivation because they're making enough $$ on other jobs? Is it irresponsibility? Is it disorganization? Angie's list ought to conduct a survey of contractors to anonymously indicate why they do this so often.

It went very well, in fact my father came over and booked them immediately upon seeing the painting. Very nice men and very talented. I highly recommend them for any type job in the home. IF they can't do it, they will tell you and not waste your time. I kept adding jobs as the work progressed, I felt like I was on a shopping binge, but he was there and so good and so reasonable, why not?

Used for remodeling a bathroom. Their work included new tile on floor and walls. The tile work IMHO (in my honest opinion) sucked! Yes, it was not a straight cut...it involved a lot of cuts, but the inconsistency in the work was very bad. Lines were not straight...fill pieces on one side did not match. When brought up to Darren, he would not acknowledge, but stated that once towel racks, shower door and other finishing touches were done, it would look ok!!! *Expletive*...*expletive* job on their part and would not recommend them to anyone.

Very satisfied with the work. They came up with creative solutions. Excellent workmanship. Would highly recommend.

He did what he said he was going to do; in the time frame stated; and for the price quoted. For South Florida that's really something!

He showed up on time and did what he had to do. I even let him go early and I told him I would clean up as a thank you for the great job. I would recommend them and use them again.

He never called us to schedule the work when he was supposed to when we had agreed upon the price and everything.

Darren and his crew were very competent.They were also very professional and on time. They have a multitude of skills and are a good reliable source for home maintenance projects. This is South Fl and you don't want to be at the mercy of the Yellow Pages.

Darren and his crew did an great job. They were on time, very professional and the work was excellent. They had to be flexible due to the door not arriving on time, but communicated frequently and performed the work when promised. They kept the dust from the wall repair to a minimum and cleaned up after themselves every day. Great job!!

Darren came to give us an estimate on upgrading a bathroom, but we ended up doing much more. We are in the process of buying a new home, therefore needed to get our current home in selling shape. Besides the bathroom, we got estimates on major drywall work in four rooms, complete interior painting and corrective tiling on the patio. They can do it all!! We got a good estimate and feel like we got our money's worth plus some. They started on one side of the house so we had a place to stay temporarily on the other side. They completely remodeled a bathroom. They smashed the previous one down to the wood and gave us ideas and suggestions along the way to update it. They also repaired major roof/drywall damage in three rooms. They also started painting on that side of the house so we could move to a completed room while they moved on to the other side. I must say that if you need to be in the house during major work these four guys were easy, courteous, honest and complete gentlemen to have around. My dog, Butter, misses them!!! We felt very comfortable having them come in and out as necessary when we weren't there. They painted the rest of the interior and ended up doing even more than planned in the third bedroom. Any time we had surprises Darren would run to a home improvement store to get the needed parts/supplies. It took exactly two weeks. They showed up at 8:00 sharp every morning. They even worked Saturdays and Sundays to get it done. In conclusion, I highly recommend this company. My neighbors even noticed how dependable they were. One neighbor kidnapped Darren to get an estimate for work to be done at his house!! Everything was completed as estimated and these guys work hard and fast. I told them that I would see them in a few months when it's time to have some changes done at our new house. We look forward to working with them again, especially Butter!!!

Darren (an electrician) works with his brother (a plumber) and his son. Darren was courteous and responsive. I bought the sconces, faucets and flooring myself, I let him get the soffit lights and miscellaneous items. He and the others arrived on time and started on ripping out the old carpet to get ready to lay flooring. I used engineered Brazilian cherry which was "floating" but still needed the edges glued. On the first day they laid the flooring (beautiful!) and got to work on the soffit lights, which meant removing a couple of old lights, rewiring and making holes in the soffit to accommodate the new fixtures. He got those mostly installed on that first day, too. On the second day they did the faucets, which turned out to need repair of old, corroded shutoffs too. They took care of this, as well as getting a piece which was broken on the original faucet. They also fixed the steps and installed the sconces and porch light, which required rerouting electrical through the attic for the circuit. They came back briefly on one more day to do a bit more finishing work on the flooring and install a timer for the sconces. Overall, I would recommend Darren highly. They did excellent work and were detail-oriented and hard working. The finished work was of very high quality. They cleaned up after themselves. I'm very pleased with the finished work and would definitely hire him again. (Oh wait, I already have)!

It went very well, the work was done on time and on budget. The bathroom can out beautiful. We are very happy with the end results.

He took a very long time coming. From the time I first looked him up and called him, he kept putting me off and putting me off until I finally got an appointment. I had a doctors appointment change and asked for another appointment with him for an upcoming Monday. That Monday of the appointment came and went, and he did not show up. I called and he was very rude to me. He said he was coming on Wednesday and yelled at me. I decided he had a good rating and decided to still have him do the work. He sent his subcontractors and they did a lousy job, and cussed the entire time. On all sides of the door, light was coming through and the door would not close completely. He came back and installed more weather stripping. Now the door is OK, but I don't want to deal with it anymore. I am not pleased and I am shocked he had such a great rating with Angie's List!

The team worked quickly and had everything completed in a couple of hours. My old front door was sagging and the wooden frame was rotted in the lower corner, so it was hard to open and close. The new door looks perfect and really adds a lot of attractive character to the front of the house. The fence gate was also rotted and sagging, and that job took only a couple of hours as well. They took down the old gate, installed the new one, and gathered all the extra bits and pieces, leaving me a clean space with a functioning gate and front door.

We purchased our apt. 3 years ago and have not done any remodeling work. Our apt. was such very 80's; outdated. He started the job in early Jan. while we were still living in NYC and he did 75% of the work while we were away. He is trust worthy. We gave him the keys to our building and apt and my father in law came in once a week to check up. Our neighbors didn't complain except for once when they had to come in on one Sunday. Once we moved to FL, he needed about 3 weeks, working 2-3 days a week to finish up the last 25% of the job. I would recommend Darren with any general contract work. They do the job and you can trust them. They do not do detail work so if you are looking for a very neat work, then you should hire a non-general contractor. He has great suggestions esp. coming from New York and living in apts, so it was great to work with him for our first experience home remodeling project.

I highly recommend Darren for any of your bathroom renovation needs. He had my full trust and confidence and was free to come and go as needed to complete the job. I also have a 65 lb. dog, and Darren always took time to play with her and give her attention. Most of the work was completed when no one was home, and I trusted Darren to lock up and close the gate. He and his team, consisting of his son and his brother, delivered a quality product for a very reasonable price. They are professional and quick. I plan to hire them again for other jobs around my home.
