Renovations By Darren

Darren and Nick came on Thursday to work on our fixtures but because of some confusion on our part, they came back the next day with a wonderfully professional attitude. During the day, they worked together to solve some problems that cropped up when ceiling fan poles didn't match up with extension poles that were supposed to be the same diameter! They worked quickly, efficiently, and they were informative and friendly. We are planning on having them paint our home (very high ceilings!) and we will review later but we have no reservations.

I called Darren based on the wonderful reviews he has received from Angie's List. They must have phoned someone else. The first time I phoned and got an appointment, Darren was a no-show. He didn't phone me, he didn't come. I called him and he returned my call only to say he had problems (leak) in his own home. He apologized and we scheduled another appointment. He came to give an estimate. That was it. I never heard from him again. I never got the estimate. I called and he never returned the phone call---it's been over a week. I'm sure he does good work if/when he shows up, but as for me, he was unreliable and unreachable. Good luck.

I called Darren the end of May, telling him I was going to be away for the summer but that I needed some caulking done before Hurricane Season as I had some leaks. He couldn't come by before I left but I told him I would be back end of June for a week and we could set something up then. I called him once I returned, he came by and saw what needed to be done. I ended up not being away for the summer and came home 4th of July weekend. I called Darren prior to returning home and he said as soon as I got home, he would come w/ his son to do the work as his son would need to go on the high ladder. We set something up, he never showed up. This happened about 3 more times. First excuse was his son hurt his shoulder, 2nd time, his son's dr said his son should take it easy a few more days, 3rd excuse was his son was out of town. He was supposed to come early this a.m. and called me @ 8am to tell me he had bad news ... his son wasn't back from being out of town. This was the 4th excuse. And each time, Darren cancelled at last min. when I had planned all my other work around what worked best for him. I found Darren to be irresponsible, undependable and very unprofessional. I found him on Angie's list as per a high rating. When I first met w/ him, I told him how great Angie's list was ... that you can find great help that other people were happy with. He agreed it was a great resource and commented, "As a service provider it's great b/c all you have to do is DO YOUR JOB"! Well, maybe at best he's inconsistent but that doesn't cut it for me. He SHOULD NOT have a high rating here! Now, after almost 2 1/2 mos. trying to get my leaks fixed, I have to start all over again with another company. ANNOYING to say the least.

Darren was on time, very professional, and did a great job. I was impressed that he did as much of the work as possible prior to arriving (putting together the frame for the door, hanging the door in the frame) in order to make the work in the apartment take up very little time. He also had to make decisions about which styles & materials to choose without my input and I agree with all the choices he made. Additionally, he helped us seal up leaks in our sliding glass door for no additional charge. We are going to have another door put in the apartment soon and will definitely ask Darren to do that work for us as well.

Everything went very well just like the first time he did work for us. When he was finished installing the receptacles, we forgot about removing the wall mirror. We called him and he came back to remove the 22" x 33" wall mirror. We highly recommend Darren and his work.

Darren and his son came and gave an initial free estimate and then arrived promptly to perform the repairs. They were extremely efficient and went through my 2-page list of repairs quickly. They did not cut corners either, which I have always found to be a HUGE problem in South Florida. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to anyone needing repairs around the house and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Darren and his son Nick were courteous, professional, and prompt. I will definitedly use them again for future handyman work.

Everything went very well. The bookcase took the most planning and ability and Darren worked on figuring out all the details. I have had a lot of renovation and remodeling done and Darren and Nick tried to be as considerate of my home and furnishings as possible.

Great experience overall and definitely plan to work with Darren on our endless home repair jobs. Particularly liked how he seemed professional and direct and quick to point out his limitations -- such as we should hire an architect/engineer to evaluate whether a block wall could be removed and what sort of support may need to be put in. Also, that an electrician may be needed to replace a breaker box & grounds.

Wow - just called ... Darren answered the phone without acknowledging the company.. just "hello". After asking if he would redo my kitchen, he said he doesn't do work that requires permits... there is not much you can do that doesn't require a permit. Better luck next time I guess... Darren you should remove yourself from any lists that suggest you will do work that requires permits.

Went very well. Came the day they were supposed to. Darren went back to Home Depot when a piece of wood for the side of the door that I asked him to fix was a little too short. I left him with the keys to the house and he and Nick came in and out for 3 days and everything was fine. They are coming back to install 2 new doors and tile bathroom floor in 2 weeks. Good experience.

They did it again! A+ all the way: great service at a great price.

The short answer is that I could not be more pleased by the work performed by Darren and Nick. They are also great guys! Not only was Darren's proposal very fair but his time management skills were impressive. Beginning Tues. morning Jan. 5 at 8:00 am, Darren laid out a daily task game plan and basically he and Nick worked from 8-12 each day. Why? It allowed Spackle, paint and concrete floor sealers to dry from day to day and I was paying him for the completed project, not the hours worked. It also allowed me time to keep up with general cleaning during the project and putting my home back together. Since 99% of us are not handymen with knowledge in multiple disciplines like drywall, concrete sealing, electrical, plumbing and interior painting et al, I greatly appreciated Darren's experience. What I also learned is that there are numerous new products out their that make projects easier. Darren billed me for only $ 90.00, his cost, for the products he purchased from Home Depot. I purchased the 5 gallons of interior paint myself, I think the best thing I can say about Renovations by Darren is that I am already planning a kitchen cabinet and counter top remodeling with Darren in the near future.

I called Darren in reference to a lot of work I needed done on a house I just purchased. He started a few days later and was very prompt every morning. Upon meeting with Darren and his son, both were extremely professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They did not use any sub contractors and all of the work was completed by them. Darren kept me up to date on everything that was being worked on in the house and offered several suggestions. Darren built a new hallway to give separation from the kitchen and utility rooms, installed new doors, including slab on old construction and pre-hung interior and exterior doors, fixed the screens on my patio, installed an attic access in my garage, and installed tile flooring. The work performed was excellent and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a good handyman.

They were professional, knowledgeable, prompt, cheerful and tidy, even when I added last minute items to their list. Darren also came in on a Sunday for a plumbing repair since he had no time during that previous week. He works with his son Nick who is terrific too. They remind me of the Boy Scout oath (excerpt): "Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, and clean."

They were professional, responsive and punctual. Their quote was about the same as the other company that I went with.

I contacted Darren and another person about painting my Master bedroom as well as some other very small jobs. Darren earned the business becaus he follow up promptly several times until we were able to coordinate a date that worked. The day he showed up he was prompt, professsional and did quality work

As always, I had no problems. In re to the shower, he actually saved me a lot of money by trying an unusual, yet effective way of repairing it. Darren and his son/partner Nick, work neatly and efficiently. They are unobtrusive when they work in my home and I always get a fair price with quality work. Before they left, I gave them a list of the next group of improvements and repairs so that he can prepare me an estimate.

They did excellent job I was very satisfied. They are the shot from the hip, reliable and very competent people. Like service used to be back in the days...not what you find these days. I was very lucky that I found them in Angies List as I had to leave for work and could not supervise the work. Everything was done on schedule and very professional.

Darren and his son Nick were just awesome. I've never had such an experience where I didn't have to worry. The end result was amazing. They showed up when they were going to show up and most impressive they called me after the job was done to ask me how everything was and if I was happy. Now that's service. I can not recommend the enough.

there were a number of odd jobs. Darren and his Son went above and beyond his estaimate without charging for the extra jobs or time. i.e. our front door was not closing corect, so without asking Darren fixed it. The screen door needed additional parts that were not expected and Darren made a couple of home Depot runs to get the parts. He also made suggestions that saved money like repairing the screen door that I thought needed replacing.

My husband and I are very pleased with the work that Darren and his son performed. From day one they were at our house on time in the morning never missing a day. They were hired to rebuild our wooden carport in front of our house. They were extremely courteous, listened to our concerns and took them into consideration. The work was performed very efficiently ( 1 week). After they were all done all garbage was removed immediately. During a rainstorm we noticed that there was a small leak in the roof and Darren came back the next day to fix it. I only had to call him once. Overall we are extremely happy with the results and would hire them again anytime.
