Description of Work: We have hurricane shutters in our Florida room which we inherited from a previous owners. One of the shutters broke and it would not go up. We tried for over a year to find a company to repair it. No one was interested in repairing an old shutter. Finally found this company who walked into my home, diagnosed the problem and repaired it in no time. Would recommend them and will use them again!

Description of Work: Mike responded promptly to all my emails and re-assured me that the patio shutters would be removed AND re-hung when re-screening was finished. (other companies did not want to reattach the shutters.) Price was higher than another company's estimate but well worth the professionalism of everyone involved -- from Mike (the owner and estimator) to the young men who did the work to the office assistant who needed to verify my credit card number. The workers were prompt, did the work efficiently and let me know when they were going to lunch and returning to finish. I gladly gave them bottles of water during the project. They earned it! No problem getting license and insurance verification. Of the six companies I originally contacted, three do not re-screen patios. Only Mike at Shutter Service and Screen Repairs answered my last email.

Description of Work: Performed maintenance on all of my shutters (lubrication, etc.). One track was out of alignment, perhaps at installation. (Another company had done this 10 years ago and I have not used them since then.) The agent adjusted the track so that it would work properly. I am supposed to get all of my Velcro ties replaced. But the office hasn't called yet to make an appointment.

Description of Work: Scott came over to my condo in Pompano Beach to inspect my shutters on the 3rd floor. He was very knowledgeable and has an eye for spotting out issues. I already knew I had issues with my shutters (the previous owner never maintained them) but he explained that an aluminum lubricant product would take care most of my issues to open/closing of the shutters. However, my main problem was an accordion shutter in the living room. There was no doubt it needed replacement since it was corroded shut. Since the window is on the 3rd floor and there is no access to the outside, he quoted me a very reasonable price to remove and replace it. He explained in order to gain access to the shutter, scaffolding would be needed and said that would be a big part of the cost. I'm weighing my options with a impact window and remove the shutter completely or replace the shutter - cost difference. My window needs to be replaced also so it would depend on the cheapest cost. Scott provided an estimate sent via email and followed up with me if I had any questions. Good to see there is a company that follows up with their clients. No pressure sales at all - just good honest, expertise!

Description of Work: We had a rolldown shutter that had started coming down with the slats at an angle rather than horizontal, accompanied by an unusual noise. The workers from Shutter Services diagnosed the problem as an insufficiently tight screw where the takeup spindle meets the end holder. They tightened everything properly and installed an additional screw for security. They then reattached the cover box and tested the shutter's operation.

Description of Work: I wanted a patio rescreened. I had rollup shutters which had to be removed before the rescreening and then reinstalled. Most companies would not touch the shutters, and so could not bid on the screening. This company handled the screens and the shutters. I elected to have the shutters equipped with new springs. They had the parts, though the rollup shutters are obsolete and parts are hard to obtain. I was not shopping price. I wanted someone who could do the job, and they fit the bill. All the work is guaranteed for three years. They responded quickly and did a good and neat job.

Description of Work: Shutter Services gave us an estimate on 4/18/12. Mike Flanzbaum and Ed Puhlman came out to the house and did a survey of the house. As we were new to Florida and knew nothing about Hurricane shutters, Mike spent a lot of time explaining the details of the types of shutters available and the qualities to look for in shutters and in how the shutters should be installed. We appreciated the amount of time spent with us in answering our questions. They even invited us to Delray to view their operation. We made a surprise visit and were very pleased with what we saw at their warehouse. We spoke with the workers and found them to all be very knowledgeable and to have worked for the company for many years. We got estimates with two other companies as well. One was very informative and the other was not informative at all. I would advise customers not to use a company that does not explain the type of shutters that are being used or how they will be installed. As we learned from Mike, there are many small differences in the design of the shutters and in the quality of the installation that will make a big difference in the longevity and performance of the shutters. Shutter services also provides maintenance services which neither of the other two companies provide. Shutter services did a very accurate measurement and worked with us on the color and size to be used, especially on a key window to maintain the design of the window. Shutter Services installed Town and Country 6.8 Eyewall Armor Accordion Shutters on 16 openings and a Lexan panel on the sidelight glass on the front door. They installed walkover tracks on the sliders and removed the panelmates on the windows.

Description of Work: Replaced rolldown hurricane shutter motor, removed and reinstalled the shutter, showed us how to attach the bars to protect against the shutters being blown.

Description of Work: Hurricane Shutters on the sliding glass doors from three different rooms opening onto a balcony. Positive: The shutters work really well and are very nice quality. I requested that the work be done Wednesday by 12 noon, and the work was completed on time. Negative: Drilled holes in the wrong area, then patched them. The patched areas stood out and looked really bad. Scratched 5 tiles on the balcony floor. I requested an estimate for Lexan to cover a triangular opening on my balcony. They took the measurements, and told me that it might not be feasible. I called twice to find out about the estimate and was told each time that someone would call me back. No one called me back. I would have appreciated a call, even if the response was that it would not be feasible to do.

Description of Work: Shutter Services installed hurricane shutters at our condo in Delray Beach- three bedrooms and a back patio on the second floor. Prior to the installation, they invited me to their shop. I took them up on it. They gave me a tour and showed me how they build the shutters and how they schedule the installation. I met the owner and several employees. In fact, the owner gave me the tour. They seemed like great folks and have a great sense of humor. I insisted that I write on the contract that the shutters they would install would be new shutters- only because it didn't say that, and that they'd be installed in one day. They had no problem with me amending the contract. They said the shutters would be installed in 6 to 8 weeks and would take one day to install them. They did so. They did come back a second day to finish up. But they did a great job. The guys were professional, courteous, on time and careful. I highly recommend this company. They do what they say they're going to do.
