I recently purchased and installed a generator from Reliable Power Systems and was the first of my friends who have generators to use this company. The experience was wonderful and the installation process (which I've heard can be difficult for some) was actually quite smooth! Reliable offers a complete turn-key installation, which allowed me to just sit back and relax while their staff did all the work and coordination! I was very impressed with the staff - from the personable owner who took the time to meet with me on my property and assess my needs before giving me the quote options, to all the wonderful staff working in the office, to the hard-working technicians in the field. Everyone was completely professional, yet extremely warm and friendly which made the process really pleasant. They even installed a couple outlets i was in need of as they also run Sun Electric which staffs journeyman electricians. The final result was a fully-functioning, tidy-looking stand-by generator that will allow me that peace of mind during the infamous Florida storm seasons. Deadlines were always met, work was always done precisely and efficiently, and technicians were very knowelagable and able to answer all of my technical questions. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone thinking about installing a home stand-by generator.

(In May, I saw their listing with Angie's list. Their online ad said (and still says) that they serviced Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. I called, and I spoke with a representative (Jackie) who informed me that Reliable no longer serviced Miami Dade, She did tell me that I should send a copy of my property survey, which I did; she said that Reliable would consider my request, I called about a month later and reached an agent who then forwarded my call to Jackie. (When she had told me to send the survey, I did, by US Mail. Send to her meant only scan and email. Anyway, she did finally locate the survey.) Speaking with her, she told me that the survey had been sent on those who make the decisions, that there was a long wait because this was the "busy season," that if O chose to use someone else, I should do do. All I sought was some information on Reliable as they had been among your top companies of its type. About three weeks ago, possibly a month, I found a much clearer copy of the property survey and sent it to them for inclusion in my file, along with a note that I was still interested and awaiting a response. I still have heard nothing. I was thinking about writing to the CEO, but his name seems to have disappeared from the website (I think it was a Bob), so maybe he sold the business. It has been 4 months now, and I have heard nothing, (My first telephone contact was in April.) The website still lists Miami-Dade. I followed what I was instructed to do. Their presentation and your listing were first-rate. If they do not serve Miami Dade County, they should at lest update their website.
Description of Work: Originally, following report of Angie's list, I called Reliable to request information, estimate and installation of an appropriate standby generator for my home.

Sales pitch was great and Robert the owner was very responsive by phone and email until the contract was signed. Repeated canceled apoointments or failed to show-up for scheduled appointments.; failed city inspections and project that was supposed to have been completed in two weeks after permitting took over two months to complete. Many of his technicians were inexperienced or recent hires and often had to call for more experienced technicians to come over to complete install. The final start-p after the final city inspection which was supposed to take one hour took six hours because the wiring inside the breaker panel was not done properly and the air conditioning compressors and my oven and stove were not hooked up. My next door neighbor used them and had similar experiences but I decided to go with tem because they told me that had worked out their organizational growth issues. Obviously, this has not occurred. They are a disfunctional operation and lack proper management controls. I would not recommend this company.

They failed to show up the first time and claimed that the scheduling date was wrong on my end. It wasn't. I gave them a second chance today and they told me to be home between 2 and 3. Busy workday for me on a Monday. At 3:05, I got a call saying that the techinician had fallen ill and he wasn't going to make it (again). Are you kidding me? Will tell everyone I know not to use this business. Cannot even professionally keep their appointments.

Dear Member, Please accept our apologies for the scheduling conflict. We did have you in our calendar for the date we originally called you as we always group our sales calls together by area. As you may know, we do not have a sales staff, only the owner of our company goes on our sales calls. Unfortunately he fell ill on the day of your appointment, and we actually needed to cancel all our appointments for that date – we do apologize for the inconvenience. Our head CSR did call you first thing to give you as much notice as possible, but as you can imagine, sickness is hard to foretell and is never convenient. We wish you the best of luck, and don’t hesitate to call if you should need us for anything. Sincerely, Margie Biscardi – Reliable Power Systems

The Crew was very professional. the installation of the electrical boxes was perfect and they worked hard to minimize any damage to the house. I was surprised by the amount of electrical work and equipment required. They got all permits, and were always here when they said they would be here. The placement of the Generator required a fairly long trench and that created quite a mess. That said the crew found my cable and internet wire to avoid cutting it and located the sprinkler system too. Be prepared to have to wait to see how much damage to the lawn remains after the installation. However they do come back and try hard to minimize the cosmetic issues. I will report back in a month and let you know how the grass repairs itself. You will have to arrange to landscape the generator as it needs a plant buffer around it. All in all the crew kept me informed of the process, they worked quickly and efficiently and I would recommend this company.

We got a credit back from Angie's List for $11 because they misrepresented the amount. I paid $100 when it was $11 cheaper. It was still a big deal. Then I didn't sign up with them. They came out and they did the generator check. I was going to sign a contract with them. It seemed that we had some misrepresentation. I had them do the work that I bought through the Groupon. They're very nice. Their workmen got it wrong on when he quoted me some of the prices. One of the reasons we were thinking about it was to have a 24/7 backup but then I found out even if you had a contract then you had them come on an emergency you had to pay $320, which is about the amount of an annual contract. My wife and I decided not to do that. I'm not mad at them. They did a good job. Their technician was excellent. He was very thorough and checked everything. He walked around with me and showed me things that I could do. I mean a really nice guy and he did a good job. I don't have a problem with them professionally. I may call them again and give them a chance to work with me with a little more narrowly defined financial arrangements. But I wouldn't sign a contract with them right then. It wouldn't benefit me to do so. The price was a little high. They were very responsive. In six months from now, I will probably give them another opportunity to talk to me again about a contract.
Description of Work: I used a big deal purchase for Reliable Power Systems. It was $89 for pre-storm season generator checkup. He checked all the contacts, the circuits, and went over the generator. We serviced the generator, shut it down, and started it up. Turned things off and on. Checked everything out and cleaned everything.

During the check up, the technician found that the relay switch to switch over to generator power when FPL goes out, was not working. He was able to find a broken wire and replace it, as well as doing a full test on the generator. The tech was on time, and very professional. I would use them again.

They were great. The reason that I ended up with them was because a company that I had been using for years was not doing repairs that I had paid them for. I called this company out for a second opinion and they seemed very honest and professional. They were much more professional than the other company that I have used for years. Just as promised and planned! No delays, glitches, or excuses, generator was installed without any drama and Reliable comes twice a year to check everything out and service it. At one point last year I noticed it seemed to be revving too high when it was exercising. I called Reliable and a technician came the next day, identified the problem as a faulty control board and got it replaced by the manufacturer at no cost to me. This is the type of company you can rely on to take care of its customers.

I contacted multiple "generator companies" for a quote for a whole house generator. I quickly learned that there are companies who occasionally sell generators and companies who focus on all aspects of generator sales, installation, and service. Reliable Power Systems was competitive in terms of price and they were the clear leader in terms of providing a turn-key project. They utilized the services of their sister company Sun Electric Works to perform the required electrical work, coordinated the natural gas line extension, arranged for all permits, provided information for our ARC (architectural review committee), and completed the project on time and in a very professional manner. Since that time (i.e. 2010), we have used them for the semi-annual service of the generator. We have been extremely pleased with the quality of their work and the professionalism of their employees. Since 2010, we have lost our power once for about an hour. When the power went out, the generator kicked on automatically, as advertised and took over providing power to our home; as advertised.

Working with Reliable Power Systems was a great experience. I have never had work done so professionally and so perfectly.
Description of Work: A stand by generator was installed. After calling a few companies, Reliable Power Systems became the one for me. They met with me immediately, gave me the most information about the systems, helped me make a decision based on my needs, set up the dates for the electric work to be done, for the inspectors to come, for the propane tank to be installed, etc, and everything went smoothly and exactly as planned. The technicians were professional, perfect in their work, and everything passed inspection the first time. I have had small jobs done and they never went as perfectly as this. The office staff was always there to answer a question and help whenever they were needed .Sounds too good to be true, especially in Florida, but it is true.

The first steps in the process were preparing and submitting applications to the home owners' association and the Village building department, which was done by Reliable in a timely fashion. When all the approvals were obtained, the installation of the generator and electrical connections was scheduled for and done on Feb. 6th. Inspections were scheduled and done, the plumbing work was completed in a timely fashion and the final walk thru was done on February 17th. All the technicians were professional , efficient and cleaned up the area when done.
Description of Work: After receiving quotes from 3 contractors, I selected Reliable Power to supply and install a Generac, whole house 20K stationary generator. The President of the company conducted the sales visit and had the most comprehensive and professional sales approach and the quoted price was the lowest of the three. The quoted price ($8880) included the plumbing work and concrete pad, but permit fees were extra.

We were thrilled when we ran across Sun Electric. From the minute we contacted them, we knew we were dealing with professional, friendly people. We needed some tricky work done in our house - because of the roof structure, etc. We also know that we are self-admitted very picky people. That being said, we was so thrilled with the team of Chris & Tom. They were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and did a fantastic job. I would recommend them without hesitation. Sun Electric is outstanding and both Chris and Tom are great representatives for this company. Bravo! UPDATE: I purchased a new chandelier for our home yesterday. I called the wonderful Jennifer at the home office to hire Sun Electric for my latest job. They'll be here on Tuesday and I am so excited.

We sought a number of quotes before accepting Reliable Power. From the very first, we were impressed with their professionalism, thoroughness and number of options presented. For our installation, we needed the whole house generator, transfer switches, buried LP tank and initial fill of gas. They handled all the plans and permits for us. I was most impressed with the staff sent to do the installation. They were focused and worked hard all day to ensure they could meet deadlines for the inspectors and power company. The entire installation was neat, professional, and without stress. I would recommend their services without any reservation.
Description of Work: - Reliable provided quotes with options. - Arranged for permits - Co-ordinated the installation of a 500 gal buried LP tank - Co-ordinated with FPL and county inspectors - Set concrete slab - Installed whole house generator - Installed automatic transfer switches and power management modules - Completed all the wiring and new boxes - Tested all components - Provided training (not much really needed!) - Set up maintenance program (free first year)

The decision to replace our existing unit was made based on improvements to current air cooled generators not available when the Generac was purchased, specifically increased output capacity and load management controls. These improvements seemed to offer managed whole house capability at less cost than larger water cooled generators, a significant improvement over the 12 circuits available with the existing Generac standby unit. After researching current air cooled standby generators my wife and I decided on the Kohler, I felt hydraulic lifters were a nice feature that would eliminate valve adjustment maintenance and was also impressed with Kohler?s warranty of 5 years compared to 3 for the Generac. After some initial delays due in part to local building regulations and aggravated by poor communication by Reliable, installation of the new Kohler went smoothly; I was surprised that final inspection of the installation by Palm Beach County building department was approved before it had even been started for the first time but otherwise felt good about workmanship of the installation. My concern began on the day Reliable returned to perform the initial startup following final inspection by the building department. At that time I observed the technician attempting to install a battery that clearly did not fit the compartment. The battery was too large and was therefore sitting above the designed recess, this would seem to block cooling airflow, in addition the electrical terminals were located extremely close to the extruded metal intake screen immediately behind the battery compartment. While I am not a Kohler certified technician over 30 years of experience in the automobile business told me this was a disaster waiting to happen, when I questioned the technician concerning the battery he said this is the same one they install in all such units. Without checking the oil level in the engine the Reliable technician then demonstrated the autostart sequence using the transfer switch, followed by output voltage tests. When these tests were complete he explained and demonstrated the shutdown sequence I should expect once power had been restored, he then checked the oil level of the engine, and thank God it was correct. I questioned the technician concerning output tests under load and was told it was not necessary since load calculations were performed by Rob Bicardi owner of Reliable before installation. When the technician asked for the final payment for the job I indicated I would give them a check when they returned with the correct battery for this model as specified by Kohler. After discussion with the office by phone I was told they would have to remove the battery just installed unless I gave them the final payment immediately, they would then return when they secured the correct battery. My comfort level was diminishing rapidly at that point so I said they should remove the battery and return with the correct size and amperage rating and that I would make final payment when they did so. At 4:00 PM on that day, Friday June 9th 2012 a different technician returned with the correct battery, he installed it and set the exercise cycle to run every Saturday at 3:00PM per my request, I gave him a check for the final installment of the contract after he completed the installation. At about 6:00 PM on the same evening our power went out, the new generator started and took over as designed, providing power for about 30 minutes until power was restored. I was feeling better about the project in spite of the battery snafu. The next day I listened for the exercise cycle to run and it operated as expected running for 20 minutes starting at 3:00 PM. The following week on Tuesday June 12th I manually tripped the transfer switch attempting to verify the generator would operate both air conditioning units and other essential loads as promised by Reliable since hurricane season had begun. The generator did not start, after some investigation I discovered the 110 volt circuit breaker used to operate the battery charger was shut off and the starting battery was dead, no LED?s were illuminated on the control panel. I called Reliable and a tech told me he must have left the breaker off by mistake when installing the battery, he said if I turned it back on the battery would charge and everything would function normally once it recharged. I reset the breaker, when I checked the next day the red LED was flashing on the control panel showing a fault for low L1-L2 voltage shutdown, I assumed this was due to the low battery issue just described, I cleared the fault as instructed in the operation manual and again tripped the transfer switch, the generator started and operated all loads tried during my tests lasting about one half hour, I felt good thinking the last glitch was overcome and I could relax believing the new machine would provide power when needed, my positive feeling was reinforced when the exercise cycle ran normally the following Saturday, June 16th. On Saturday June 23rd, I once again listened at 3:00PM for the exercise cycle to run; the generator cranked and started but ran very briefly, less than one minute before shutting off. Inspection of the control panel revealed a flashing LED and the L1-L2 low voltage shutdown code in memory. After reading the description of the code I was confused, it seems to indicate it should only occur if voltage output is low when loaded and there is no load applied during the exercise cycle to my knowledge. I double checked the circuit breaker for the battery charger it was not tripped, I then removed the end cover of the generator and verified the battery cables were tight, I also checked for voltage across the battery terminals with a DVOM, the meter indicated 14.3 volts telling me the charger was functioning. I called Reliable Monday morning June 25th around 9:00 and was told they would call me back after contacting their technicians; they called back around 10:30 saying someone would be out between 2 and 4 PM. At 4:15 the same two technicians who installed the generator arrived after working all day on other installations. They asked for my owner?s manual to help determine the cause of the fault code which I found unusual, as an authorized servicing dealer I would expect them to have more in depth diagnostic information. The technician also asked me to describe what had happened so I repeated what occurred on Saturday, he said the generator run log confirmed what I described, but he was double checking because some owners cause problems by overloading the generator then telling the technician a different version. After some testing the techs indicated they could find no cause and theorized my natural gas supplier had shut off the supply briefly causing the problem, I told them that was not possible since I have a gas light that burns 24/7 and it was still burning and I had not had to relight it. Reliable techs attempted to contact a Kohler representative without success at that point and after about one hour said they could find no problem, they said they would contact me the following day after speaking with a manufacturer?s representative. Reliable never did get back to me so I eventually contacted manufacturer Kohler directly. I explained that I had lost all confidence in the generator to provide back up power to my home, once the fault code described has been set, the generator will no longer function in the automatic mode until the code is cleared manually. That would be fine if I was home to do that, but if I was out of town when that happened should a power outage occur my alarm system would not function making the home vulnerable to break in, or at the very least food in refrigerators would spoil. Kohler put me in touch with their area distributor, Tampa Armature Works out of Pompano Beach. TAW sent a technician out the next day who did a thorough inspection of the generator and installation. The technician did not find any significant problems but did make some adjustments he felt might keep the problem from recurring all at no charge even though TAW did not sell or install the generator. Several weeks of normal operation followed with no shutdowns or fault codes set, but the problem did eventually reoccur. TAW again sent out a technician, not the same one who had come previously. The tech again did a complete inspection and could not find any obvious problems, but he did take the additional step of connecting a laptop computer to check the onboard Kohler software for version and fault codes. He then connected directly to Kohler with that information and discovered a Technical Service Bulletin indicating the software loaded had since been updated to correct the exact condition I was experiencing! The tech from TAW downloaded the updated software to the controller for my generator and it has worked perfectly ever since. I am still mystified why Reliable or Kohler did not contact me with that information after all my complaints, but I am pleased that distributor Tampa Armature Works finally resolved the problem. TAW will get the call for all future maintenance and service, "Reliable" in a word, isn't. To address the reply below from Reliable Power Systems: "Thanks so much" for "waiving" the unpaid balance. Perhaps you should keep in mind going forward that customers can be reluctant to make final payment before you complete the job to their satisfaction as originally promised.. I find it little compensation for the additional stress and aggravation your company caused me regarding this installation. Another suggestion might be to tell your customers before hand that Kohler is weak regarding technical support rather than after they have a problem.

Response from Reliable Power Systems
Thank you for providing a response regarding the installation of your generator. We understand your frustration regarding the manufacturer issues that you have experienced. Unfortunately, because of the way Kohler handles the repairs of their systems through dealers like ourselves, it is very difficult for us to respond in the way we normally would. Kohler has since improved the way they provide tech support to us, but is still a work in progress. These are very reliable machines and rarely have these types of manufacturer issues. I am very happy that TAW was able to finally fix the programing issues. We have already waived the outstanding balance that was on your account to help compensate for the problem that you experienced.

Reliable Power Systems was very professional and seemed to be very knowledgeable. He was very persuasive on what needed to be done and how to do it. The owner of the company comes out and does the quotes himself which I thought was very good. You are dealing with the person who is ultimately responsible for the project. Which I thought was pretty good. I thought that showed a level of professionalism and caring for his customers.
Description of Work: I have made contact with Reliable Power Systems, but have not contracted with them yet. They gave me an estimate for installing a generator.
