He told us exactly what would need to be done. He told us that we didn't necessarily need a complete new roof and that we could just do repairs to fix the rotting wood. He asked us if we wanted to sign a contract with him to do the work, we told him no because we wanted to look around. He told us it was a good idea to comparison shop and to just let him know if we wanted him to do the work. He was very polite and nice.

Paul Bange Roofing did an excellent job. They showed up on time for the initial appointment. Finished the work at the promised time. I had several estimates and even though they were not the lowest, the commitment and work ethic made up for the difference. Would recoommend them to anyone wanting a roof repair by a reliable company that you know will be there if anything goes wrong.

Went very well. See above.
Description of Work: I selected Paul Banger Roofing quote over the others received. While price is always a consideration the main determining factor was the thoroughness of their estimator Matt. He spent approximately an hour and a half not only on the roof itself but showing me the areas of concern, addressed my many questions and explaining the options available. When he left I had a detailed one page estimate covering the permitting, materials to be used including a new skylight, and a credit toward replacement wood (the actual amount of lumber cannot be determined until the existing roofing was removed). After accepting their quote, signing the necessary paperwork, Matt also went over the preparations they suggest the homeowner should make. I found the list very helpful. Re-roofing day arrived and my anxiousness about the process was quickly abated. The crew was extremely professional and had their roles chorographed. The driveway was covered; the materials unloaded and the work underway. By day's end I had a brand new roof and skylight. One of those little things was the lack of any tar drips on the flashing. There was an ongoing clean-up performed during the process. Details were addressed: a large magnet to remove any metal that might have landed on the ground, sweeping up small bits of debris, a blower to disperse the granules (I have a flat roof).

I called Paul Bange Roofing for a re-roof estimate on my townhome. First of all I love the way they answer the phone. Very courteous and up beat. They sent out someone to look at the roof. He explained the roofing issues to me thoroughly and also told me that I did not need a new roof, that he could repair it and save me thousands. I signed with Paul Bange Roofing and they showed up to do the work in a few days. The repair took all day and everything was clean when they left. I waited till after a few good rains to write this review to make sure it wasn't going to leak. It did not and so here is my review. I had a great experience with the company, they were very professional and I would highly reccomend them.

Salesman was nice, but let me know, more or less, either pay more, or get Nothing, which is what happened to me!
Description of Work: First off, I would not recommend the "special" coupons, it only gets the service into your property to UPSELL you. Any roofing company should be able to come with a Free Estimate! When I purchased the Paul Bange Coupon for $99.00, I was under the impression I would get at least two hours of labor, to fix minor repairs, and then let me know if anything else would be recommended. On April 10, 12 the salesman Tom Martin comes, & I go up on roof with him. He tells me, the minor things wouldn't even take two hours, but instead, all of a sudden I have a much more expensive problem, and he can come, if I agree to a quote for approx $2000.00. I told him I would think it over. I decide to call them back, and just ask them to fulfill my coupon, which I thought included two hours of basic service and repair, and request that. On June 15, 12 same thing happens, salesman Tom Martin comes, (without crew), and tells me the same thing...I will need to spend a lot more money, if I want anything done! Once again, feeling stifled, I say I will have to think it over! Now the only thing I am thinking over, is why and how did I spend $99.00 and get nothing in return! I would appreciate if Angie's List would assist in getting my $99.00 "coupon special" back. I did not appreciate just having a roofing company saying a service will be performed with the coupon, and the only service I got was an up sell, with absolutely nothing to be shown for it! I would not recommend Paul Bange Roofing, or their "coupons", it's really just selling their tricky antics! Please refund my $99.00 Coupon, as NO service was ever performed.

Dear Member. I must apologise for these coupons also. As it turned out these were a very bad idea for Angies list in our industry. They seemed wonderful at first in order to try and help people. As it turned out the roofing problems that we were called out for were very extreme and could never be fixed to the satifaction of the homeowner for the 99 dollar charge. We have since stopped this program and will not be doing it again. We strive to be one of South Florida's top roofing contractors. With 1000's of happy clients it proves it, well to us at least. I again am sorry for the mis-understanding. I believe Angies list will refund your money if you ask them, they have done it for others. Also I will send you an additional 99 dollars for your inconvenience. All I ask is that you understand that this was a mix up and if you could possibly give us some credit for trying and give us a better review. I'll keep an eye on this review and will act accordingly when the review is re-posted. Again, I am sorry this happened. Richard Gotshall Rich@Paulbangeroofing.com

We purchased an Angie's list $99 deal for Paul Bange roofing that included up to 4 hours of roofing work. We made an appointment, and only a sales person showed up. He told us that we had a roof leak and it would require $3,500 of work to repair. We decided to check with other roofing companies before accepting this company, and we wanted our $99 back since his visit was just a normal sales estimate visit that anyone could get for free. He refused, and said "Do you know who we are? We're Paul Bange Roofing!" It was as though he thought we should be honored to pay for a fee for something that's normally free. He finally agreed that he would credit the $99 to the invoice if we hired his company. Such a deal!!! This was a very, very frustrating experience. We called another roofing company from Angies list and they came on time and repaired the leak for $300. That was Frank Seeber Construction. They were fantastic. We complained to Angies list and they returned our money from Paul Bange Roofing's "deal". While they might do a great job, we would not be likely to use them.
Description of Work: We purchased a special Angie's List offer for $99 that included having work done on the roof. I think it was four hours of work. We made an appointment expecting work people to show up. A sales person showed up instead. He approached the visit like any sales call. So we could have called the company directly without buying the $99 offer, and he would have come and done the same thing.

I did not hire them. I then got the same company with whom my neighbor has been doing business for many years. This company (Seal Coat) pressure cleaned my roof, front and back pavers, and columns on the patio for $575.00. I signed-up with them for semi-annual roof pressure cleanings , paying just $110 for each service. By the way, we have had torrential downpours and the pressure cleaning. The roof apparently did not need the repairs the man from Paul Bange told me were necessary.
Description of Work: Paul Bange Roofing responded quickly to my request for an estimate. Because it was a rainy day and roofers couldn't work, one of the company's roofers came to give me an estimate for roof pressure cleaning. He gave me an estimate that was nearly three times higher than anyone else's. In addition, the man told me that, he would not simply pressure clean my roof without making repairs. Doing it his way, we would have spent about $3,000 all together.

Since we live in Virginia we hired a company to manage our single family home in florida and attend to our tenant's needs. We asked the property manager to give Paul Bange Roofing a call based on their good ratings with Angie's list. The property manager told me she could not get them to go to the house, so I decided to call them directly. I called and explained the nature of the job and asked for a quote. The lady on the phone was very polite, but told me that they do not talk to property managers or tenants, and they would only go to the house if the owner was there in person to receive them. I explained that we live in Virginia (thus the need for a property manager) and we could not be there, but that the tenant requested the repair, therefore will be more than willing to have companies stopping by for quotes. No deal, she explained it was company policy to only deal directly with owners and there was nothing she could do. I understand "company policies", but also believe in flexibility when the situation calls for it. Anyway, we didn't have any problems contacting other companies to give us estimates, so we will be making a decision soon. As per Paul Bange, although we can not atest to the quality of their work, we were disappointed by this first attempt to work with them and won't be contacting thm for our future needs.

Summer is rainy season in Florida. It began "raining" in my Mom's room in our three generational family. We had been advised previously, by other companies, that it could be a 3-4 month wait due to all the rain. We then contacted Bange Roofing on 06/20/12 thru Angie's List and were told that because it was leaking in my Mom's room, he would see what he could do about getting someone to our house quickly. They came and provided an estimate the following day. FOUR DAYS later they were at the house making the repairs. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

The offer deal I purchased from the web site said: " Understanding the importance of roof maintenance requires that you know the value of having a good home. Too often, once a new roof has been installed, home owners forget about it. Many believe that maintenance is not required on a roof - yet nothing could be further from the truth. That is why Paul Bange Roofing Inc., is offering 2 hours of roof maintenance for just $99!The Two-Step Service Includes:A visit from a Paul Bange Roofing Inc. TroubleShooter. They will meet with you and determine the proper corrective and preventative maintenance necessary for your roof's condition. Within 24-48 hours, a Paul Bange Roofing Inc. Roofing Crew will be dispatched to your home with a specific scope of 2 hours worth of necessary maintenance. The two hours-worth of work will include: Visual review, maintenance for minor damages using roof cement, membrane, RT600 and caulk as needed. No roof-size restrictions. Any other areas that are in need of maintenance will be brought to the homeowner's attention and a professional plan of action presented. This service is normally valued at $400, saving Angie's List members a whopping $300! This is a unique offer and a fantastic value. It is on a first come, first served basis." I purchased the $99.00 roof maintenance deal, which says they will send someone come within 48 hours of the estimate to do corrective work. I have an older roof, but there are no leaks as far as I know or he could tell. I do have some broken tiles and extra tiles to replace them with which is what I'd like to have done. The deal I bought is copied and pasted below. John came out, and was very nice, but seemed to just want to sell me a new roof. When I told him I just wanted the deal, and tried to make an appointment, he said next time his crew was in the area he'd send them over, and that he didn't want to make an appointment since I didn't really have a leak. I feel like I should have the "within 48 hour" guarantee as is stated in the deal. I do short term rentals in my house, and scheduled this to take place in a certain time frame so that I would not disturb tenants. I wrote a review giving a C grade stating this while I waited for him to fit me in his schedule - stating that "ifthey show up in a reasonable amount of time, I' ll improve their score, if not, I will make it worse....but for not honoring the 48 hour time frame advertised, I am going to start them with a "C" grade." John called me back and told me that he doesn't know why the offer for this deal is even still being advertised and posted on the Angie's list website, and that he would not honor it. He said replacing my 10-15 broken tiles, or doing 2 hours of work is a $1600.00 job, and he was not going to do it for the $99.00 deal advertised - and he would refund the $99.00. This is after I had waited for weeks for the appointment, and bought the deal -without anyone at the roof company telling me that they did not honor that deal. I feel that by paying $99.00 before work is done or anyone shows up, I am buying $400.00 with of work, as the coupon states the promotional value to be. For them to just refund $99.00 to me just shows they never had any intention of providing $400.00 with of roof maintenance for $99.00, and they are just wasting my time in order to have a chance to do more expensive roofing jobs. I still have not received my refund, or any work or communication from the company and it has been over a week now.

When I told him I just wanted the deal (which I told him before he came when we made the appointment for survey of work), and tried to make an appointment for repair, he said next time his crew was in the area he'd send them over, and that he didn't want to make an appointment since I didn't really have a leak. All I can do is apologize for all the Big Deal problems we have had. The Angies list advertisers are very good at selling their product. They convinced us to try this "Big Deal" product that other industries are doing with Angies List. Unfortunately it is not a good fit at all for the roofing industry. Due to OSHA regulations roofing technicians are not allowed to be on the roof alone to do work. There must always be a safety monitor present. This alone makes it not cost effective to send technicians out first to an address. We send out a roofing specialist first to address the situation then if need be we will send out the technicians. 99 dollars will give you a comprehensive examination of your roofing situation and will also get very minor problems fixed. Unfortunately this program has not worked for us or our clients. We are a 25 year company that has had the same owner and license number since inception and this sales product has given us a black eye. We strive to do the right thing every day by our clients. This Big Deal was not the right thing for us and we can only apologize for starting the program in the first place. This was a lesson learned. I do know that we personally have refunded the $99 dollars that you paid to Angies list and I also see that you received 99 dollars directly from Angies list. I hope that the extra 99 dollars will ease a little of the anger towards us. It was not our intention to mis-lead you or bait and switch you. Richard Gotshall Vice President

First I'd like to thank you for using us back in May of 2002. I looked back on our client system and have no record of when your leak occured. If it was seven years after the roof was installed, yes you were out of warranty for two years. We do specialize in repairs so I would like to think we gave you an estimate to do fix your problem. Of coarse with us being in business for almost 25 years we do not take lightly any bad review we receive. If there is anything I can do please call me at the office here and I will do my best to make you happy. Ask for Rich Gotshall and please say you are an Angie's list customer.

I'm getting ready to close on a house that's in dire need of a new roof. After receiving quotes from three other roofers, I decided to call Paul Bange Roofing to received a 4th and final quote since their "Free Quote" form on their website was broken. (All three previous roofers were extremely courteous, prompt and anxious for the opportunity.)In contract, I called Paul Bange Roofing and spoke to Marco who had a nasty attitude when I explained that I was closing on the home soon and needed to get quotes ahead of time so I could start the work immediately upon closing. (Sorry for planning ahead.). He said to call them after I closed then we could talk. He condescendingly explained that they've been in business for many years and it's their policy not to provide estimates/quotes to "non-owners" because they receive 30-40 inquiries a day from Realtors. He said "It's been our experience that none of the quotes we provide ever turn into paying jobs. I said their policy didn't make sense since I wasn't a Realtor, and that three other roofers had eagerly come to provide quotes. He couldn't wait to hang up the phone on me. Lesson learned: I now understand why none of their estimates ever turn into jobs. Skip this roofer. There are many better and eager available. Thank goodness for the Internet and Angie's List -- the equalizers. Update: Went with Tiger Team Roofing. No regrets! (They were happy to come out and give me a quote even though they were getting 30-40 calls a week too!)

Good afternoon Member, First let me apologize for my office staff. We have already had a staff meeting regarding your report. Please allow me to explain a company policy to you that unfortunately we have had to put in place for the time being. Since the housing crash and the surplus of short sales on the market, the people buying these homes are in the thousands. We were getting 30 to 40 calls a week asking us to come out and look at roofs and provide estimates on homes that were owned by the bank. People were trying to put together a budget to see if they could afford the home. These estimates very rarely bared fruit. 1 out of 40 estimates were sold and I am sure you can understand the financial burden that was placed on the company by driving all over town to provide estimates to people who while they may have had good intentions, really were not able to purchase the home. Yes this rule does affect a very small percentage of actual buyers but it was a chance we had to take so that we could insure our own budget was not thrown out of whack! Today I had another meeting with our office staff and will once again be doing estimates for buyers. We hopefully will be able to keep everyone happy and meet our budget. Hopefully there will be more buyers out there then tire kickers. I hope this explains our situation and please feel free to contact me if there is anything I can do for you. He was supposed to be here between 10 and 11 am and did not show up until after 11 am. When he got here he said that they do not do work on tin roofs. They show in their ad that they do and when I set the appointment I told them it was a tin roof and they said they do that work. He just seemed very un-interested.

Hello Member, first let me apologize for not being able to help you with your roofing problem. While it is true we do work on metal roofs, we unfortunately do not work on all of them. There are many kinds of metal roofs and we generally do not know if we can work on them until we see them. We do not ever want to waste a clients time, nor do we want to go to your home if we know we can't fix the problem. I apologize again for wasting your time. It was by no means our intention. The roof was installed on a house constructed in 1925 with the roof set down inside the concrete block walls. It is a unique, and more complicated home roof than average and labor intensive to install. They installed a new system to improve attaching the roofing to the concrete block. There was also a flat roof addition at the back of the home. On that structure, the new roof was angled to avoid standing water. The completed roof looks excellent on observation.
Description of Work: REMOVED OLD ROOF, REPLACED ROTTEN LUMBER, INSTALLED NEW ROOF.

I have never been treated so rudely. I am closing on a house in two weeks and am trying to line up the tradesmen to make the repairs as soon as possible after closing. When I called this company to ask for an estimate to replace the roof, the woman who answered the phone said they would not give me an estimate until after I closed on the house. When I asked her why she said she didn't have to tell me. I told her that I will have already signed a contract with a roofer by the time I close since I want work to start that day. She gave a heavy sigh and said "I'm giving the phone to someone else". So this guy gets on the phone and is so rude. When I ask why I couldn't get an estimate he literally yelled at me and said "If I give an estimate to someone who doesn't own the house then I am just sending my guys out for nothing because you probably won't buy the house." I told him we already had an accepted contract on this all cash purchase so there wasn't any way we would not be buying the house. He yelled a bit more about wasting his time. All this time I am being very nice to him so there was no excuse for this behavior. I found two other roofers in less than 5 minutes who will come out to bid on the job and who can start work on the day I close. I guess Paul Bange just doesn't need any new clients that they can treat potential clients that way. Especially since I am expecting to spend about $25,000 on the new tile roof.
Description of Work: They refused to provide an estimate.

Response from Paul Bange Roofing, Inc
I had a leak on my roof over my garage. I pretty much knew what needed to be done before I even called any company for a quote. So a salesman from Paul Bange shows up to give me a quote. What I like to do is play stupid to see how honest a company is whenever I call a company for the first time for a quote. So I basically said to him "I have a leak, this is where its leaking, can you please tell me how much it will cost to fix it?" So the guy went up the ladder to the attic but didn?t even actually go all the way in. Never even went on the roof to see if the problem might be originating from there (that?s where the problem was by the way). I can?t recall his exact explanation but it was made to sound technical and he talked about how the problem wasn?t just this leak but that entire section of the garage roof. So he recommended I replace that whole section for $6000! I continued to play dumb and said "wow that?s a lot I guess I will have to check my finances to see if I can pay it all up front." He said "oh just so you know we are very professional and do quality work. We are even licensed!." He grabbed the license to show me as if I should be impressed. Last time I checked almost every legitimate roofing company is licensed. This guy tried to play it off as if a license is a special thing. You might be thinking that maybe he was just being through and wanted to make sure I had no future leaks whatsoever. That is why he recommended the most comprehensive job. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I contacted several other roofing companies, one of which actually recommended the EXACT same job. This guy was actually honest and stated that he wanted to be through so he recommended the whole section be replaced but he stated that I could just do a patch up job on it for cheaper (the Paul Bange guy made it sound like a patch up won?t work for my roof). This other company quoted me just $3000 for the same job! By the way this is a reputable company that has tons of reviews and is rated a perfect A here on angles list; not just some cheap company I got a quote from. So what I?m saying is maybe Paul Bange roofing does a good job, I don?t know because I definitely didn?t use them. But they will rip you off/up sell you in the process. How can they justify a $3000 difference for the exact same job? My recommendation is stay away from these guys. Hire someone else who is reputable and who will give a fair price. In case your wondering I got my roof fixed for a grand total of $750 and it hasnt leaked since. UPDATE: Thank you for your response. I believe every point you mentioned was already addressed in my original review. There are only 2 points you mentioned that I need to address. First refers to your higher quality of workmanship. As I stated I knew what needed to be done to the roof before I called your company. The area affected was not caused by a deteriorated flashing, nor was there any flashing in that section of my roof. Second the roofer I hired DID NOT cut corners. I'm writing this update 2 years after the job was completed and I have not had a single problem with my roof leaking after that repair. The second point I wanted to address was there was no way your roofing specialist could have made the determination that the entire roof section needed to be replaced. The only thing he did was take a few steps up the ladder and checked out the section of the attic the leak was originating from. I'm sure anyone with some knowledge on roofing and leaks can attest that that's nearly not enough information to determine what work needed to be done to the roof, much less recommending that the ENTIRE section be replaced.
Description of Work: Gave me an estimate on a roof repair. And by estimate I mean legally tried to steal money from me.

Member, Some of what you explain is true and correct. We are very thorough and never want our customers to have any future problems in the area we repair. While my roofing specialist was there he probably felt that a repair would not work in the long run. As for the other company being cheaper then we are I will do my best to explain how we justify the repair. We only use top of the line roofing products. Every roofer has a choice of what he can use. He may not have been removing the flashings or cutting some other corner. We have been down that road of using inferior products cutting corners and it has bitten us therefore we choose not to do them or use them. We also have a highly skilled work force, most being with us ten plus years and all starting from the ground up as a laborer. We are a 25 year company with well over 300 hundred years of experience between us. We must plan on being in business for a long time. We owe that to our clients. We have never been accused of being a cheap roofing contractor and we are firm believewrs in you get what you pay for. Your repair can be done quickly and cheaply but not by us. We owe it to you not to do that. I realize that all I can do here is try to shed some light on your review. I hope that you can understand our side of a lagitimate roofing contractor that has thousands of satisfied clients in both Broward and Dade counties. If there is anything I can do please do not hesitate to call me at the office. Richard Gotshall Vice President

Our experience with Paul Bange Roofing was great. The salesman was patient, explained everything, answered any questions we had, both at the consultation, and later, by phone. He worked with us some on the price, and everything was spelled out in the contract. The process of getting a new roof has its more unpleasant aspects, but those were minimized as much as possible. Everyone arrived when we were told they would, and the work was completed as described. They cleaned up after the work quite well. We're delighted with our new roof.
Description of Work: Had our roof replaced.

They did not do the job correctly the first time as they explained it to me. They didn’t do the job the way they were supposed to. I had to call them to come back out to redo the job. They did not do a good job of securing the surroundings of where they were working also. I got gravel from the shingles going into my central air unit.
Description of Work: They did a roof repair on the sloped portion of my roof and replaced the flat roof section.
