I just can't say enough good things about Mike. He called to confirm the appt, arrived with the tools for the job I'd initially talked with him about, but was able to do the several small projects I had for the 2 hours. He was pleasant, clear, informative and knowledgeable. I have high hopes for the referrals he gave me because of his character. He explained everything he was doing, answered all my questions clearly and simply, and provided additional information I didn't know to ask about that will prove very helpful. I will absolutely contact Mike first for any future work I have done. Thanks, Mike, Joanne.

Designing Renovations was such a pleasure to work with, the owner was very prompt in returning phone calls and scheduled our service to accommodate us. The work was top-notch and we will definitely use them again for handyman services.

The appointment was on 9/9/15. They still have not called.

Service was provided as promised, though I wish more zones could be tested for the pre-paid service I ordered.

Vary pleased with every aspect of the job except the tile job in the kitchen. I realize he's not a tiler by trade. The job was ok, but not great once you stepped back and looked at it from different angles. The job was also not completed due to the tiles weren't all from the same lot and additional tile needed to be ordered. I had the job taken down and totally re done by a legitimate tiler. I'd like it to be made clear. He was punctual, professional, knowledgeable, and clean. The kitchen tile job was an issue that some would have accepted, but I wasn't pleased with it. We would hire him again for mainly typical construction work.

I rescheduled an apt for this Monday vs next Monday 08/24/15. We confirmed, so I left my job 3 hours early. Got close to my house only to receive a phone call that they were cancelling on me because a bigger job came up (an emergency basement leak). Mark said he would give me a call so we could reschedule for later this week. I called Heidi and Mark back on Wednesday for a possible rescheduling and left a message. Both of them never returned my call and today is Thursday. I'm in the process of securing a refund, would rather give my money to another company with better communication practices, sorry.

Mike was awesome. He answered my call right away. He understood that he was fixing work that another person had really messed up. He cam out to see what needed to be done. On Wednesday morning he showed up with 1 helper and they got to work as soon as they walked through the door. They fixed the 2 pieces of trim caulked it and painted it. I have my kitchen and hallway back. They also rebuilt the corner of my window sill. I am so grateful. Thank you

It went fine. They did everything I asked them to do.

Worker showed up on time and worked for the full 4 hours purchased (prepaid). This work was a lot more work intensive than I thought it would be.

They were prompt and did an excellent job.

He provided a great estimate but was scheduled for larger remodeling projects and wouldn't be available to do work for me for a while. I followed up with him a month or so after our initial contact, and he was still booked up.

I purchased the Handyman for the Day special. There was excellent communication with the owner and the job was quickly scheduled. Mark and Brian did a wonderful job of installing our new floor. They worked methodically on the floor without any breaks and completed some other work as well. Thank you again for the fine job.

Went well, very happy with company, did not try to up sell anything additional, would highly recommend.

Mike (the owner) was very responsive from my initial inquiry. He was very knowledgeable but not pushy during his consultation. He provided me with a very fair quote that did not include the cost for materials. On the first day of the job, Mike brought his assistant Heidi who completed the bulk of the work. I was excited that Mike believes in hiring women and Heidi was very competent and nice. Mike was very easy to work with throughout the process. We communicated daily and he was open to questions. Ultimately, the project was a huge success. The basement looks wonderful (Mike gave great advice on selecting the tile). I wholeheartedly recommend Designing Renovations and plan to hire the company again for other projects.

The owner showed up for the pre-work inspection / estimate on time. He told me that the fee would be $110 per hour plus parts and estimated 3 hours to complete the job. I asked about installing flashing around a second story window and that would also be the $110 per hour billing with an estimate time of one hour. On the day the workers were scheduled they showed up EXACTLY on time. Due to problems getting through the outside wall (double brick) the job took longer then expected. They did leave to pick up the parts (pipe, flashing, caulking, etc...) from Home Depot. Upon returning they completed the work, gave me the receipt from Home Depot, and the parts they did not use so I could return for store credit. I was very satisfied with the quality of the work done. The one negative comment I have is the trip to Home Depot and back took an hour and a half (30 minutes round trip with normal driving). I suspect lunch was taken at that time. I was billed for the time when they arrived at 9am to the time the job was complete at 430pm.

Times were changed multiple times on both days of work. Contractor only bought materials for 4 flower boxes instead of 5 and didn't tell me until well over the time they were supposed to be finished the job. They didn't even offer to go back to Home Depot to complete the project. I complained to the original person I spoke with he was very rude on the phone- stated they didn't typically build flower boxes etc even though I had sent pictures of what I wanted and they wanted the work. He did send the handyman back to build the last box a few days later. My biggest issue is when I first contacted them (I sent pictures of EXACTLY what I wanted done and I had old flower boxes to use as models)and when the handyman arrived they estimated the job would be done with the time frame of the deal they were offering or less ($360 for 1 man 8 hours or 2 for 4 hours). However the project was 7.5 hours with 2 men and I charged the difference. The guys working never said "hey we are over the time, we will charge you X dollars to continues, etc". When they came back to finish the last box the work was completed in about 30 minutes, so again I'm not sure why it took 7.5 hours for the guy working on the boxes to build 4.

I initially gave this company an A on their wood floor installation but since then the floors have buckled (within the first month). Mike felt this was related to moisture but we have since discovered through another contractor that the floor was improperly installed and materials paid for we're not used. Mike refuses to accept his error. I would never used this person for any future work.

Mike originally came out to take a look at the items we wanted his business to address on Saturday, March 28th and was able to setup a date to do the repairs just a few days later. Mike explained that the labor rate was $55 per hour and that we would be responsible for the cost of supplies (they purchase the supplies at Home Depot, provide us the list, and then we reimburse them as part of the final payment). On the day of service, Mike himself was not on site, but the two gentlemen that were sent were very professional, showed up on time, and got right to work after I went over the list of what needed to be corrected. They arrived just prior to 9 AM and did not leave until ~6 PM. They were able to complete all of the items on our list and did a great job. The only complaint that we have is that we did not realize the labor rate that we were quoted would be $55 per hour for each of the persons sent to work on the items. While it makes sense, this was not explained to us. After about 1 week, the caulk that was done around the tub had started to split. Mike came out to repair and it has been fine since. During that visit, Mike was kind to help me (at no charge) figure out how to disconnect the dishwasher so that I could make a small repair to the wall behind the dishwasher and ensured that I was comfortable with putting it back together once the repair was completed.

It was very disappointing. He said his rate was $55 per hour and that the auger would cost about $60 to rent from Home Depot. I believe I told him there was a Home Depot 3 miles from me. He started the work, using some of my plastic I had already put down, plus a small piece of plastic he brought and a few pieces of tape. After about 20 minutes, I heard a terrifically loud bang, and he came up to tell me there was a problem. He had put the auger 35 feet beyond my tiny property, even though the cleanout pipe in the front yard was clearly visible and it would have been no trouble to eyeball the distance, into the public sewer line, and had broken the auger. He called Home Depot and they did not respond. After about 30 minutes, during which time I had to go next door to use a neighbor's toilet, he asked me to help him fix the auger, which I did. Then he did a test to see if the water was flowing through the cleanout pipe in the front yard. Then he asked for some paint to color the water, and he left huge splotches of bright green paint in my utility sink and got some green water on my washing machine, which I had to clean up. He billed me $252, which I paid. I then asked him why he charged me so much, and he told me that he charged something like $12 for the tape and $10 for the plastic. He also charged me for the entire time he was there, even though it was his fault that he let out too much of the auger and broke it. But I am not arguing about that, even though I helped him fix the auger. He also charged me for the time he spent driving from his house to the Home Depot near him, about 15-20 miles from my house, and the time he spent driving back there to return the auger. I do not think that is fair, and I emailed him about this. He did not respond. He also left the filthy plastic in my back yard, under my back stairs, apparently trying to hide this garbage where I would not see it immediately. I called Home Depot and found out that he could have saved me money and a lot of time by buying the correct length of auger, which would have been at least 25 feet shorter (50 feet long instead of 75 feet, for a 40-foot job).

He canceled on me the day of and wasn't able to re-schedule me anytime soon. I ended up finding another handyman on angies list for cheaper and buying that deal instead.

I had a list of repairs requested by the buyer of my house that I needed done before settlement so I got quotes from two different contractors. Mike from Designing Renovations came over to my house and looked at the work that needed to be done and gave me an estimate of half a days work and $425. I hired him for the job and the following Monday he sent two guys over to perform the work. I showed them what needed to be done, and again they told me it wouldn't take more than 4 hours. So I left for work and expected to come home to see it all done. 9 hours later I came home and the guys were still there! They called me half way through and told me that it was taking longer than expected but I did not think that meant twice as long and that it would cost me more than twice as much. They wanted $920 for everything but I was able to talk them down to $775. It was absolutely ridiculous that it took two guys 9 hours to do a few simple tasks and its ridiculous that it ended up costing me nearly double what they estimated. Not only that, but they did not clean up after themselves and they didn't complete the job on the basement door. I called twice to get them to come back and fix it but they never did. I wonder if it would have taken them as long if I had stayed home from work and supervised. I will not be using this company in the future and I would not recommend them to anyone else.

Mike did a great job! The communication was great up and he actually showed up!! I have not had a lot of good experiences on Angie's List. So I will be using this company for everything from here on out because they are AWESOME!
