It was fine, they had to get more materials or something of that sort that require more time, then time was gonna come out of the time that I paid for, that I didn't think I should be analyzed for acquisition of materials because I think they underestimated the size of the job or some thing of that sort but with that said at the end the provider of the company did make it right so all in all it started initially one of the dispute got sorted out.

It was a complete waste of money. The deal I purchased was handyman service for a day, which was one man for eight hours or two for four each. The woman was very kind and worked the entire time. She was worth the 4 hours. However the second man literally stood around and complained the entire time. I should have only been charged half-price because I really only got half of the deal. They were only able to do about 25% of the work I had hoped for. I believe it could have all been done if the woman worked on the backsplash alone and the man did the other items. He did not even have the proper tools to start the trim for the wall. Also it took over a month to get on their schedule. And he had to cancel and push mine back two weeks due to a "car accident"

I received a list from you prior to starting the job we finished your entire backsplash. Also did some of the other things on your list. Steven was constantly running to cut tiles so Heidi could move faster. I'm sorry your not satisfied but where else can you get a complete backsplash done in glass for $360. I think your rating is very harsh and you never said a word to me about any dissatisfaction wile I was there.

People arrived on time and prepared. Quickly went to the store to get the materials needed after an inspection of the needed work. Completed everything in quick order except for another layer of spackle on the wall, which would need to be done by myself once their work had fully dried. They gave me full directions on how to do so, so it wasn't an issue. Very professional.

Dear Angies List, I purchased a membership on Angies List in August with good faith. On Aug. 30th, talked to one of Angies List representative about few handyman's fixing small things like bathroom fan; the leaking sink; basement door getting jammed; water spilling from sink when dishwasher is running; alarm beeping' hose spout; backyard fence- few planks on right side and backside need to be screwed in and few replaced; windows staying open and locking upstairs and basement Along with Angies List rep. over the phone we saw several Hanyman's offers on Angies list website which offered services such as: Deal can be used for everything from minor plumbing and electrical work, shelving, painting, landscaping, drywall repair, and more AngiesList rep. and I saw Designing Renovations OFFER DETAILS below and she said our list of items fall under Handyman's jobs so, did the purchase: "Here's the Deal: $360.00 for 8 labor hours (2 workers for 4 hours each) of skilled handyman services The Real Deal: Your list of projects around the house seems to keep growing with no end in sight. Skip the hassle and let the professionals do the work for less with this great offer!" Called Designing Renovations and talked with owner Mike Liebman, explained the items above and he said he will first have his worker/s check what's needed and go buy the parts from the store (which I told Lowes is very close to our property). No, problem, he said he can do them and 13th Sept was confirmed. So, went ahead and purchased 8 hours labor the All day offer $360.00 I told Mike that I was the paying person, so, if any questions, only to call me and not deal with the tenant. Right after I purchsased it on Aug.30th, I sent Mike text message from my cell to his cell with the Angies List Coupon code with my address and in case he could come earlier than 13th call a particular number for scheduling. My tenant said that Mike changed the date to 12th of Sept. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Hi Mike, Please see the below list for today's work. Thank you. bathroom fan the leaking sink basement door getting jammed water spilling from sink when dishwasher is running alarm beeping hose spout backyard fence- few planks on right side and backside need to be screwed in and few replaced; windows staying open and locking upstairs and basement Thanks, -- (1) Mike sent his people at 8:30 am and they have removed parts of the deck & damaged it (deck was not on my list given to him via email- see my list above). When I was contacted by my tenant at 11:35, I called Mike at 11:35 (3 hours after his 2 workers came meaning 6 hours out of 8 hours purchased) & asked about why did they touch the deck?, he asked if I was so and so person, at so and so address, which was a wrong person's details he was asking about- which was not about me not my address. I told him, "you have a wrong address and wrong person." (2) When I asked him about my list sent to him via email the same morning around 7:45am, he said, "I get 14000 emails everyday and I don't check emails." Then I asked Mike why he has not contacted me, he said he doesn't have my number, but when I confronted him saying Angies list said that they sent you my contact info. with my cell# when I purchased your service, then he said, yes, he should have it. Then, he said he will send the list to his guys. I told him to not mess up the deck as there is no problem with it and it did pass the inspection. (3)So, to put the removed parts of the deck back and to patch up a small hole on the wall, which were not on the list given to Mike, he charged the tenant $233. Is this the professional way of functioning as a service provider on Angies list website? (4) When I asked Mike over the phone several times about completing the things on the list, while his wokers were still at my property, he said he'll talk to them and call me back. Mike called me & said "the two men are now fixing the faucet where its leaking when dishwasher runs; will fix the outside spout, fix the other faucet leak in bathroom and everything on my list except windows. Not to worry, I will take care of everything." And when I asked Mike about how the division of hours going to be calculated as I purchased 8 hours labor, he said, "I'll give you all the details after my men complete the work. Now, we're good" (5) Later in the afternoon, my tenant informed that they had left around 2:30 pm and they DID NOT fix the 2 leaking faucets because "they did not have proper tools/equipment to move the dishwasher." And they DID NOT do anything about fixing the outside spout; they DID NOT fix the door; (6) They only screwed in few planks on one part of the fence and fixed exhaust fan in the bathroom for my purchase of whole 8 hours labor for $360.00 and charged my tenant $233.00 for their mistakes of applying different address' work order to ours possibly damaged the deck which had no problem at all as it had passed the inspection. After giving such a hard time to my tenant & for putting all sorts of douts about my house, they want to vacate now causing financial problems effecting my mortgage payments. So, I waited to hear all day but he never contacted me, so, the next day, I emailed him at 10:27 am, which is pasted below. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Mike, Yesterday, when I called you and asked about the details of work and hours not completed, you had mentioned that your people are on the job but your workers left my townhouse in the afternoon without completing the work as they did not have tools to move the dishwasher to fix the leaking faucet, fixing the leaking outback spout, etc. and other things that were on the list given to you, were not completed. Don't understand how the workers are on the job without tools! As you said you would contact me yesterday after the work was done, I was waiting to hear from you but till now you have not contacted to let me know the details of work not done & the hours paid, and when you are planning to complete it, etc. Only after 1 and half days after the workers left on 12th, Mike responds to my above email on 13th at 5:15 pm saying, that he did not come home the previous nigh till 9:30 pm. And that the faucet leakage fixing is beyond a handyman's skill and I will need a plumber to fix the outside spout. Infact, I confirmed before purchasing about the things on my list with Angies List and Mike at Designing Renovations and it was agreed that they fall under Handyman's jobs. How can Angies List allow such poor services offered on your website? So much stress on my whole family & my tenants who now want to vacate my house because of this company's unprofessionalism. (1) How can Angies List help a paid member like me (a) I was gipped of 8 hours of labor, charged $360 where only 2 small items on my list was addressed. (b) Charged my tenant $233 extra. (2) Can you see that my payment of $360 for my small list is utilised appropriately for 8 hours? So, incompleted things need to be completed by bringing the right tools, not by this company but preferably by a different company. (3) See that the uncecessary charge of $233.00 to my tenant is reimbursed? (4) Make sure that my deck is not damaged by his workers as they took parts of it and patched it unnecessarily. Look forward for a good positive resolution to all of this.
Description of Work: The provider only screwed in few planks on one part of the fence and fixed exhaust fan in the bathroom for my purchase of whole 8 hours labor for $360.00 and charged my tenant $233.00 for their mistakes of applying different address' work order to ours possibly damaged the deck by taking apart unnecessarily which was not on my list given to him and which had no problem at all as it had passed the inspection.

My guys worked on all the things you had mentioned on your list you didn't notify me that you were sending me any list until later that afternoon so in good faith my guys listened to your tenant on what things needed to be done she had them patch a hole in the drywall and try to repair the deck. According to your tenant those things were on the list she sent you. Minor plumbing things we can do like tighten a fitting but hose bibs need to be replaced when they stop working. The dishwasher was not hooked up properly to the airgap and your faucet needed parts for it .And your window needs to be replaced. My guys did attempt to repair those things but we were set up for failure from the start. I apologize for any confusion and i tried to work this out with you. you were very aggressive on the phone and not easy to talk to. as far as the door goes i don't know i haven't asked them this is the first time i heard about any door.
It went very well. The work was done on time and very well.

yeah, I got my stuff done, but it was no picnic for me paying for 2 guys for 4 hours while only one guy works. Not a good deal for the consumer, we paid a lot and some of the work was real bad, half assed because they were too cheap to send someone out to look at what was needed, buy the correct materials, and then do the job. Use one name for your company, not two. It just makes things a lot clearer who you are. Don't offer this deal, it sucks, and stinks that I have to pay someone to redo part of this job.

The previous owner of my house mainly focused on completing the first floor exterior trim but not the second floor. There were several areas that were painted and I wanted to protect them from the weather and reduce the maintenance requirement on them. This was an arduous and physically challenging task due to the heights, odd angles on the house, one very steep angle on one side of the house, and multiple roof levels. Mike and Rob were undaunted by the challenge and tackled the job like the true professionals they are. Mike is the owner of Designing Renovations and is an excellent communicator. He let me know when he was on his way to look at the job to provide the estimate and when he and Rob were on their way to do the work. Mike and Rob are very patient, knowledgeable, experienced, and productive. I was very happy with their work and professionalism. I will be using them again for both small and more complex renovations.

Mike returned my message promptly and provided an appointment. They seem to be quite busy and for good reason; they are good! On the day of the appointment, Mark called half an hour before he came and said he was on his way. He came in on time and started in right earnest. He had a 40 foot ladder (which many of the other handyman companies did not have). He setup the ladder and took care of all the vent cap replacements one by one until all were done. With his assistant he cleaned up and left the job site as he found it. He had all the tools he needed to ensure that he got the job done. The vent covers which I bought did not fit perfectly. He had the tools to cut the vent covers to the right size and he fitted all of them perfectly on the outlets. He was very polite and mild mannered and was very methodical and knew exactly what he was doing. Thanks Mark for a job well done and Mike for having good folks like Mark working with you.

I didn't like that the owner didn't measure all of the shutters that were being replaced. He measured one shutter and told us the size shutters we needed to order based on that one. After we ordered and painted the shutters, the guys who were installing the shutters told us that some of the shutters were too long and they would need to be cut down. I found that completely unprofessional. I would never trust him to give an estimate for another job because I don't know if he will be too lazy to take accurate measurements. Also, the first day the guys were here to install, they went to lunch and never came back. We later found out the circumstances, but if we did not call the owner to find out where the workers were and when they would be back, we would have wasted the rest of our afternoon waiting for them to return. I thought the workers did an excellent job of painting and hanging the shutters. We are very happy with the result. I just think the owner needs to finesse his professionalism and business etiquette if he intends to make lifetime customers.

While the quote wasn't the lowest we had, Mike was able to arrange for carpenter and painter and referred me to a great electrician. The trades showed up on time and did a great job. The LR ceiling was water damaged from a toilet leak upstairs and we had cut 2 1x1 holes in the LR ceiling to dry it out. The painter did an amazing job covering it all and you would never know. The electrician was great and did a great job with the recessed lights. The carpenter was thorough and the floor is now level, and he even hooked up the water line to the new refrigerator for us. Mike was in and out, but was there when he needed to be. We are very satisfied.

Working with Mike was in amazing experience! His response was unique among all the professionals (referred from Angie's List) with whom I spoke. He was excited about the project itself: to treat stormwater adding to the pollution of our watershed while at the same time improving the aesthetics of a family's home in a public housing community and extending environmental justice a bit. Mike reviewed the plans for the planter, provided by the City of Philadelphia as part of their urban stormwater treatment project. He made suggestions for improvement, shopped for needed materials and brought them with him to the site. He constructed the planter and engaged the family in the project. I have pictures (so does Mike). I would upload them, but this site doesn't accommodate images, unfortunately -- a picture is worth a thousand words, but just the words will have to do here I suppose. Mike is not only a skilled craftsman but also a GOOD man. I can't recommend him and Designing Renovations enough! Note: The unit in question is a garden apartment. SDAT does not list the year it was built. 1950, provided below, is my best guess.

Hired Mike and team to install new wood flooring into a small bedroom of my condominium. I had already purchased new hardwood flooring from a flooring specialist so Mike's job was to just install the wood. I have since learned that this company not only does terrible work, but lies about what they do. In Mike's proposal, he was to "install new red rosin paper on the subfloor" (quoting from proposal). Additionally, there was a clause that states, "if we find that the subfloor needs repair there will be an additional cost not to exceed $1200." It came to our attention that our subfloor, that is in terrible shape, was NOT appropriately prepped for this installation. The original subfloor was not level, and therefore not suitable for laying new flooring. Additionally, Mike did NOT install new red rosin paper as his proposal stated, because he told my husband to his face that "we never include subfloor prepping with our flooring installation" and stated that he did not touch the subfloor and merely threw the new floor right on top. Prepping of a subfloor is part of installing new flooring!! Any company who claims to properly install flooring WITHOUT appropriately prepping the subfloor is doing shoddy work. When Mike stated that he never includes subfloor prep, my husband then asked him, "so if you're installing a new floor for a customer, and, after tearing up the old floor, see a gaping 2x2ft hole in the subfloor, you will keep that a secret from your customer and throw the new flooring down on top of a gaping hole without telling them?" To this, Mike replied that that is, in fact, what he does. This is dishonest and horrible business practice. On top of this, the old shims that were on the subfloor were visibly falling apart (including really old ones with visible termite damage that would crumble when touched). It is the job of any responsible contractor to alert the customer to this and REPLACE damaged shims before laying down new flooring. Even if you claim to "exclude" that from your proposal, show some decency and tell your customer that they have old, decrepit shims that need to be replaced and that you cannot ethically put new flooring on crappy subfloor. Finally, in his proposal Mike also charged $400 for materials, of which he nearly used NOTHING (I had already bough the hardwood elsewhere). The most he used, since he did NOTHING to the subfloor, were some nails and staples. That is NOT $400. He did not even install the new red rosin paper that WAS INCLUDED in the proposal, yet we were charged for it. This company is a a rip-off and dishonest. Terribly and sorely disappointed in their work ethic (or lack thereof).

This is untrue we did replace the rosin paper. these folks had a water leak from there roof that damaged there flooring causing it to buckle up several months after we installed the floor. they let it go so long that termites actually started eating away at some leveling shims placed in front of a door way. They expected that i would replace there floor for them for free but i explained there was nothing wrong with there floor before there roof leak damaged the floor. I cannot be held responsible for there lack of maintenance on there roof. Also there original subfloor was not rotted and did not need to be replaced there was a low area in front of the door where a couple shims were used. We were asked to do this job as cheaply as possible because it was an apartment. I'm sorry for there loss but didn't cause this situation. When we were finished the job they were very happy with it.

Designing Renovations was prompt in its arrival. The handymen quickly identified the area as water damaged, and removed a portion of the ceiling to further inspect. After several tests, the handymen were not able to locate the source of the issue (according to the handymen, old Baltimore row homes can sometimes have random problems) and replaced the sheetrock. As the problem has not arisen again in two years, the handymens' assessment appears to be accurate. Designing Renovations was also generous in offering to return a different day for any other repairs that may be needed (I had purchased a coupon for one day of work but the coupon stated that services must be rendered in a single day) as only a halfday of work was preformed.
Description of Work: A small portion of the ceiling was peeling from what appeared to be water damage. Designing Renovations inspected the area, removed a portion of the ceiling sheetrock, inspected the ceiling space and measured for dryness, and then installed a replacement ceiling sheetrock.
We purchased the handyman for the day deal. Workers worked diligently and were knowledgable. We also were thankful the owner mike was easy to get ahold of via phone calls.
Description of Work: Workers came to our house and put in a new garage door opener, new window trim, and a new downspout block pad.

Mike's arrival was prompt, perhaps even earlier than expected. He addressed all the items I needed repaired very quickly. I purchased the 360.00 coupon and it was adequate for a 1/2 day work with 2 people. I had to pay for the cost of all the materials required to perform the work but he provided the receipt so I could see every penny and where it went. I was so impressed with his work that I called him again a few weeks later to perform some additional tasks. The coupon was only good for 1 time though so I had to pay $400.00 plus the cost of materials. But I received the same prompt service. Since I have a Property Management company maintaining the home, it was important for me to ensure the person that performed the work was trustworthy and reliable because I had to provide the lock box code for them to get in and perform the work. Mike sent me pictures for all the work he completed so I could visually see that it was done; my Property manager also affirmed this afterward. Great Job! Thanks
