What impressed me most was they left my basement in better shape then it was before the floor. There were issues with the dry wall that they corrected, the paint job was excellent, they cleaned up after themselves each day, got rid of all of their trash, and generally did a very professional and detail oriented job. They were responsive in my emergency when my basement flooded and did exactly what they said they would do. I can't imagine that I could have found a more professional job than what these guys did.
Description of Work: I originally hired them to remediate mold in my bathroom. In the meantime, I had a flood in my basement and I was able to hire them to remediate the water damage and mold there as well.

Designing Renovations was great. When Michael came to my home he said that as the mold was visible we did not need a mold inspection. He did a free estimate for remediation and suggested I get my money back for the "big deal" mold inspection.

The guy who came out did three jobs. He did good in one job but we were not satisfied with the other two. We wanted him to fix the door in the basement so we do not have to screw and screw the door every time we put things and stuff in and out. He basically put some magnets on the door inside and out then when it was done it was not working properly. The door does not stay in place properly so we were not satisfied with that. We purchased the deal in March but the guy was busy so he did the job in July. We also had to give him some extra money for what he did. The total cost was around $200 or $300 and it was expensive. We would not use that particular guy again in the future.
Description of Work: We used the big deal that we purchased from Designing Renovations for screwing one patio door and one basement door and touching up the drywall.

Initially I was not able to schedule an appointment for 2 weeks. When I explained that I was sick and needed someone to come out sooner, the owner obliged and came right out. He inspected my home and ran several tests. He was very professional and I believe knowledgeable as well. He was able to make several good suggestions regarding the air quality in my home. The results of the test came back in about a week as he said and there was not a mold problem in my home. I was greatly relieved.
Description of Work: The owner of the company came out to my house and tested for mold. I was having a terrible allergic reaction to something in my house and thought it might be mold.

Mike is very professional and personable. He goes to Home Depot every morning at 730 or so and he actually met with us and helped us pick out the things we needed. That was nice and unexpected. Mike and another lady came to install the vanity the first day, which included some re-routing of plumbing and drywall work also. The lady that did the drywall, it was fine but she works slower which initially was a problem for us if you are paying for time. We explained that to Mike, concerned because he is the expert and works very efficiently having been in the profession for 28 years, we really wanted him to finish the job so that it would be done in a timely manner. He understood and did not charge us extra time for the difference in time it took the lady to do the drywall compared to him. We really appreciate that and believe it was fair. Another guy came with him the 2nd day to finish the install, another expert in his field, we were comfortable that time having both experts conclude the work. The plumbing he did was actually pretty tough because of the pipes in the basement and the very small area with which to work, but he took on the challenge quickly. As a person, Mike is very laid back, family guy and nice to talk to. Even recommended a local event for families with young children which was nice because we are new to the area. It is nice to have someone work in your house who is a good person as well. Even with those initial hiccups with the lady's work, he remedied them and made sure the customer was happy within reason, we would hire him again.

They did significant damage to multiple areas of our house. The damage they caused cost us more to repair than the cost of workmen. We had two workmen at our house. Neither were particularly skilled and were sloppy and lazy. We had arranged for 2 handymen to come to our house on August 8th at 8:30am. No one showed up and when I spoke to the owner he admitted that he "lost" our appointment. We rescheduled and two workmen showed up an hour and a half late. The ?foreman? mostly worked inside and the assistant worked outside. It took the assistant almost FOUR hours to put up a mailbox. This was a standard home depot type mailbox and required holes to be drilled into a post. Unacceptable. The ?foreman? refused to use any drop cloths, left his hammer and chisel directly on our formal dining table, put a sander onto a pile of clean laundry and left at least a dozen screws scattered about our house on the floor. While installing a corner shelf in our bathroom, he put multiple scuffs in the wall and several extra holes since he was just randomly drilling to find a stud instead of using a stud finder (which was offered). When sanding a closet door, he admitted after that he was too lazy to take the door back outside to sand, which would have been fine had he even tried to use a drop-cloth. Instead, we had sawdust all over our clothes and in our shoes. He then scuffed the hardwood floors with his ladder. We had them install a medallion on the ceiling in the dining room, and he put a nails through it at an angle which cracked the medallion in two places and punctured the ceiling. Best yet, they neglected to put the light fixture back. When we tried to put it back ourselves, we realized that the handyman broke it. For three weeks my family has been eating dinner by a camping lantern. Again, unacceptable. We had them put a small lattice fence around a well basin (2ft x 2ft) which would have been fine, except in their brilliance they decided to hammer away the concrete supporting the water well, hence destroying it completely. Further, they left 2 inch nails jutting out of the fence all around so that it was incredibly dangerous to touch it. Lastly, they installed some child locks on our kitchen drawers. Most were fine but some were done incorrectly and easily opened with the slightest force. I could have forgiven this last one but when the owner came over to see the damage his workers did, he was full of excuses, including that the locks would work if you did it very slowly and gently --- um, did you not understand that it was a child lock??? Oh, and destroying the concrete around the well was ?probably? cosmetic so he didn?t see the need to repair it?.hmm, destruction of property counts regardless of what you destroy, and we still have to pay to have another company come out to inspect the damage around the well. To add insult to injury, they charged us for their lunch break, which was 45 minutes. The foreman actually left the property in search of a takeout place and took his time getting back. The owner at least came back to our house to fix a few of the many errors done by his company, although it took him TWO MONTHS to do so, but was 2 hours late (again) and still tried to make excuses. Best yet, is that he texted my husband to say that he didn?t want to do that much because HE didn?t want to feel like he was being taken advantage of?. These were just the more egregious concerns, but there were issues with most everything they touched. I would have given them and ?F? grade but since the owner FINALLY fixed a few things I raised the grade to ?D?.

Sometimes adversity is the best measure of a company. In the case of Designing Renovations, I asked them to deal with a couple of leaks in my roof. In one case a leak around the skylight damaged the ceiling in an upstairs bathroom, and, in the second case, a leak damaged a ceiling area in another room. Mike sent three people over and repaired the roof leaks and replaced sheetrock as needed. These men did an excellent job. Next, Mike sent a painter over. The painter did a horrible job ? getting quite a bit of paint on the wallpaper! After the painter left, I called Mike and let him know of my disappointment. Mike asked if he could come over and look at the work. He agreed that the work was clearly substandard. Mike set up an appointment with me. He came over, repaired everything to my satisfaction, and did not charge for it. Mike?s work and the work of the other three men was very good. I would have no problem with hiring them again.

Went well. Vendor provided quote for mold remediation. I expect to accept quote and get work done.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal from Designing Renovations.
Mike and team, of Designing Renovations, did a phenomenal job on our house. Not only were they fast, but they were very thorough and thoughtful about the needs of the job. They went above and beyond to fix issues that many other contractors either didn't think were possible to fix including lifting our Duradeck roof deck lining to add a ramped plank to ensure no water would come in under the threshold anymore. It's been several months (and we've had several rain storms) and no water has come through. They completed our job in less time and with less materials and labor than any other contractor quoted. We got quotes from 10 different contractors and can easily say that Mike Leibman is the only contractor for us! We couldn't be happier with their work. And on a personal note, Mike and his team are some of the most personable and enjoyable contractors I've had the pleasure of being around. Our sincerest thanks to Designing Renovations. We'll be calling them again!
Description of Work: Needed extensive work done on 2 roof deck thresholds, 2 new pre-hung doors, demo, mold remediation and drywall. Our house suffered water damage during hurricane Sandy.

I purchased the Angie's List Handyman special for one person for 8 hrs or 2 for 4. Via email I described the work I wanted to have done and scheduled the appointment. Later I needed to change the date. They were very accommodating. The representatives arrived on time and promptly assessed the job. They were neat and clean and did a great job. The job took longer than my deal covered, so I had to pay for additional time to cover the job.

I had some issue's with him when he was there. I asked him to replace some electrical outlets and he said he did not normally do that but he would try and do the work. I had an issue as he brought a helper with him and she was not doing anything. I asked if the hours from the Big Deal were getting taken away from her as she was doing nothing and he said yes. He did have her start working after that and his attitude was not very good towards this. He did not complete the hours that he was supposed to and I definitely would not use him again. Everything was used except for five man hours of the day of service offered in the Big Deal. He was trying to convince me to do mold remediation as that is his specialty and I did not need that, I just needed handymen service. The work on the dryer vent was very good. He recommended leaving the vent on the outside even though I had purchased a vent for that. He did tell me that I was owed five man hours that day. He seemed to want to finish the time but he had another job that day and could not. We agreed on a different day for five hours and he did show up. We were not there that day and then I did not respond to his calls as I just want the five hours to be refunded.

Scheduling: I sent an email, and received a request to call back on his cell phone. I would have preferred he take the initiative and call me, instead. When I reached him, we arranged a time/date. He does small jobs in the evening. (Fine by me.) Arrival: He arrived later than expected due to traffic -- not unexpected in the metro area-- but did call to let me know. I appreciated that. He also called to let me know he was on his way. Also a plus. Job: When I bought the "deal", I really wanted a handyman to do wallpaper repair. Unfortunately I found out that wallpaper was the one thing he did NOT do. About the only other thing I could think of was that we wanted to replace some light switches to accommodate CFL's, so asked him to take care of that instead. He did the work and after he left, we found that one of the 3-way switches was installed incorrectly, so he would need to come back. I called and he told me he was going away for a week and to contact him after that, in case he forgot. We got him back about 10 days later to fix the switch, and to try to straighten out one that was sitting c***-eyed in the box. Summary: I don't think that switches are his expertise, and perhaps other repairs would have gone more smoothly. I do think that he should have checked the 3-way switches for full function before leaving the first time, and not left one of the switched sitting at an odd angle. If I had known he did not do wallpaper fixes (actually it was just gluing seams) I probably would not have purchased the deal. The work was done, and the switches do work, though one is still a bit crooked. He does the work, but at least in our case, missed the details. Distance between us added to the problem in scheduling but was worked out. I suspect he would actually be much better in larger jobs, since in talking to him, he seems to have expertise in other areas (which is to say that if you need other kinds of work, please read reviews where that sort of work was done.) He was friendly and polite.

She is correct I do not do wallpaper I believe I have it posted on my site but I don't want it I was happy to take care of the switches for her however several of the three way switches were originally single pole switches it was screwing the way the original electrician had things done also the switch that was guide was due to the fact that the box inside the wall slightly skewed. I moved to switch the best as possible to accommodate the box I could not move the box. I'm very surprised that you put that you will not hire me back again. You seem very happy with what I've done

We went back and forth to find a time for him to come. I think he is really busy which is good for him but, as a consequence, it was kind of hard to schedule. He came and fixed a number of small things for us. He had good quality work. He was friendly. Although nothing he did was a major project, I consider it money well spent as we would have taken about 4 times as long to do what he did and I'm sure our quality would not have been as good.

I bought the handyman-for-a-day (8 hour) deal, and had Mike drop by our place on 3 occasions over the course of about 6 months for various tasks, including removing a tile backsplash in our kitchen, installing two ceiling fans, and regrouting our tile bathroom floor. My wife and I were extremely pleased with Mike's work, and will certainly be giving him a call in the future should we need help with anything around the house. The one thing to keep in mind before ordering the handyman-for-a-day deal (or any of his other deals on here) is that Mike is extremely busy (as a result of all of these Angie's List deals). For us this was no problem at all, but if you need something done right away you may want to send him an email before ordering to see when he'd be able to fit you in.
