Description of Work: We had soggy carpet in bedroom... not from roof or anywhere we could see. We shutoff the house water main and called Midway next day. They came out same day. First guy tore up carpets, etc, in the bedroom-- looking for leak--no problem, we expected that. An hour or 2 later, the guy with the "leak detection equipment" arrived. I wasn't home, so am going by my wife's accounts. Anyway, she said it took him like 5 minutes and he found that the leak was on the water main shutoff valve (on the side of the house). We left water off again that night and he came back next day and fixed it. He had to tear out some of the outside wall, and looks like he did a real good job of reinstalling the pipings, faucets, etc. He came back the next day and patched up the wall. The other guy worked almost a whole day. My wife had bought a new dishwasher from Midway and the price, with installation, was $700. There were some holes behind the dishwasher from a previous rat problem. He boarded that up, and also had to rewire some major chewed-up wires, and then he could install the dishwasher. He added $100 to the bill for the extra re-wiring work. So it came to $1,500 to fix the shutoff valve, plus $800 to purchase and install the new dishwasher. The part that I didn't like was the $435 charge for the leak-detection. I called their office to see if that was not a little high, but they ended up saying that it was a specialized machine, etc, and they felt that the bill was fair. I think their work was competent. I don't know enough about plumbing to say if it was above-average, average, or below average. They got the job done, but I thought the price was a few hundred too high. But again, I don't know what the others charge, so maybe I shouldn't say. I think they had about 15 man-hours total in the job, which would be around $100 per hour if so. Just my advice to someone else might be (if price is important) to check with them when they show up for the initial $39.95 to see what is their action plan, and what will be the price for each thing they plan to do, and be sure they don't get too far into it and you already have racked up $400 or so (with the leak detection, etc ), and all of a sudden it's too late to call it off and shop around. If I would have known better, I would have balked at the $375 for leak detection right off the bat and just left the water shut off and shopped around a little more. Maybe I am wrong, but I think I could have gotten the same work done by someone else for maybe $500 less---not sure. So -- satisfied with the results, but not happy about their prices (again, maybe that's just what plumbers cost these days and I just have a little sticker-shock).....
