Response from Duracraft Fence Co Inc
I have owned and operated this fence company for over 35 years. During this time, I have completed over 10,000 residential fence installations and received many Angie's List Super Service Awards. I have earned a reputation in this community based on excellent workmanship and pleased customers, which is why it is disturbing when someone casually grades me with an F, in any category. In general, fence companies usually waive responsibility for damage to sprinklers in their contracts with customers. It is my policy to repair broken lines when I've been forewarned of their existence, or when sprinkler heads are clearly visible in the area where I need to dig. (Member) did not indicate he had a sprinkler system and there were no visible heads in the area. When my 19 year old son Henry, who has worked alongside me installing fence for 3 years, found a loose and exposed pipe near the fence line where we were working, we brought it (Member’s) attention. Upon inspection, (Member) did not feel the pipe was of any importance or that it belonged to any system. (Member) called me for an estimate and awarded DuraCraft the job, I can only assume based on the price I quoted. I showed up to do his job promptly and when promised. He was satisfied with the workmanship and quality, or he would not have paid in full at the completion. I also provided the following services above and beyond the original quote because I value providing good customer service: • The original quote included installation of four posts to strengthen the existing fence. At (Member’s) request, I provided and installed four additional posts at no additional cost for labor or materials. • The original quote included the installation of new hardware on an existing gate. Henry replaced the existing hardware with new hardware. Before the gate was reinstalled, (Member) requested that I change the swing of the gate from an inside swing, to an outside swing. The newly installed hardware was moved to change the swing of the gate at no additional cost for labor, and then I reinstalled the gate, not my son. • During the installation, (Member) approached me and asked if we would cut down two bushes on his property, which was not included in the original quote. We cut the two 15 foot tall bushes down and also hauled them away, at no additional cost to (Member). In closing, I have to ask three questions. Was the job completed as agreed? Yes. Did I go beyond what was expected from the quote to provide the customer with excellent service? I believe I did. Was the customer satisfied with the job? Yes, and he paid in full. Even though I completed the job to his satisfaction, including the extra services above, (Member), in turn, had no issue in grading me with straight F's.
