We are very pleased with the new shower. We had started to work with another contractor, but he wanted us to buy the base and wall panels thru Agean Marble. The panels that they had did not match our existing bathroom fixtures. We found what we wanted at Custom Cast in Sharonville, and bought thru Lowes. The other contractor broke off contact when we insisted on the product from Custom Cast. Bob Kontout had no issues with us purchasing the Panels thru Lowes and he would do the installation. Bob always showed up on the scheduled days and called prior to arrival. He also stayed in contact by email to check on when the custom panels would be in. He scheduled a plumber who came on Saturday and called to make sure the plumber completed his work We would also like to say that Custom Cast was very helpful in getting the right configuration for the base and wall panels, as Lowes was clueless. Agean Marble was also helpful, as we ended up ordering the Basco shower doors thru them as again Lowes was useless, even though they are a dealer for Basco. You can't go wrong with Bob Kontout. He knows what he is doing and his labor cost are reasonable, very professional and does a complete job.
Description of Work: Tore out an existing shower enclosure, built a new wall. Moved the plumbing to the new wall Installed water resistant drywall and then a resin type base and wall panels. Added matching splash panels to an existing whirlpool bath. Finished the floor and wall by the shower with trim moulding. The $4000. was for a 3.5 X 4 foot enclosure. The base and panels cost $2000. purchased thru Lowes Bob Kontout's labor was about $2000 which included the Plumbers charges. The shower door and shower head and valve were extra.
Bob is fantastic to work with, professional, pleasant and does great work. Couldn't be more pleased.

Bob has excellent references on Angie's List. This may have just been an isolated incident.
Description of Work: Made appointment with Bob Kontout to get an estimate for a bathroom remodel. I had to leave work early to make the 4pm appointment. Bob did not come; a week later, he left a voicemail that he had misplaced my address and phone number. He did make the effort to contact one of my neighbors, for whom he had done some work, to try to get my information. He said that he ended up finding it. I appreciated that Bob called me, but I was concerned with how organized someone can be who loses information about potential customers. I received other estimates and decided to go with one of those contractors.

After not being able to locate the information of the potential customer in a small condo complex, we contacted a real estate agent who lives in the complex to see if she could locate this person. She called back several hours later and informed us she was unsuccessful. The customers information got mixed in with some tax forms and was found about a week later. Immediately a call was placed to apologize to the customer explaining the situation. We made a mistake but put every effort into trying to get in contact with her.

Wonderful! Bob and his associates were prompt and very thorough. Very trustworthy, too. Didn't mind leaving the back door open for them even if we weren't home. He did everything promised and worked with us when we had questions on things like where the bathroom should go or the placement of the bar.

Bob came to us recommended by our friends. He is definitely reliable and the prices he charges are fair. Bob kept us informed as to the progress of the job and helped us when the hardware store ordered the wrong shower door. Then when our shower door mysteriously shattered and the manufacturer sent us a replacement door, Bob was there to help us re-install the new door. My wife and I definitely recommend Bob and would use him for future projects.

Everything went well! Leaving the house open for a whole day, unattended, to contractors was a huge concern for me (as with most homeowners), but I felt comfortable right away. Bob made sure that I make arrangements that I am comfortable with. Our basement had a couple of challenges: pipes running across the ceiling and the salt water filter in the middle of the space. Bob worked to make the layout and design as "clean" as possible, moving some pipes around, and flushing the salt water filter against the wall. The ceiling ended up looking a lot better since there were less pipes to box up. Bob is always available over the phone and I was in contact with him regularly. As a homeowner, I also wanted to make sure that I made it easy for him to do his job so an important "Do" is to make sure all your supplies are ready so there are no work stoppages (tiles, vanity, shower door, etc). Also, contractors are human too so they may forget some things and it's very okay to remind them. I appreciated that Bob is very detailed with the work that needs to be done and makes sure that his team (pepe) and the subcontractors he works with follows the same aesthetic. They kept the space as tidy as they could so I was able to check on the progress each day. The work was estimated for only 5 weeks, but as of today, the completion date, it's been about 6-7 weeks, and I only have carpeting and the hand rail left to install. Oh and the IKEA sink that has proven to be very challenging. I definitely will call Bob again for future work. He is very pleasant to work with and we are very happy with the outcome of this renovation.
Description of Work: We needed a finished basement with 2 rooms and a bathroom. Bob was very easy to talk to. He listened to our needs and provided us with a drawing of how the rooms were going to be laid out, which we personally found very helpful (not all contractors provide this at the initial consultation and for free).
Our initial experience with this contractor went well and we liked the work ? until we found that it did not meet code in our county. We did not like the attitude and the grief that it took to get the issue resolved. One of the basic pillars of good customer service is how a business handles a problem. Is it resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of the customer? In this case, it took an inordinate amount of back-and-forth to get the job corrected. The constant complaining by the contractor about how all of the ?extra work? was some big favor became tiring. At one point, Bob also told us that he did not have enough money to fix the problem. We also considered the contractor to be extremely disrespectful toward the female member of the household. For example, they took short-cuts such as working over the top of expensive appliances without moving them even when asked to move them aside. We never tried to dicker price with this contractor and paid him exactly what he requested, so we were particularly incensed by getting ?the bum?s rush? when a problem occurred. We will not hire this contractor again.
Description of Work: Bob and his crew helped us remodel a terribly dysfunctional laundry room by relocating the plumbing, electrical, dryer vent, etc. The job required opening the walls, moving utilities, new drywall, full repaint, and placement of the appliances. Unfortunately, after they finished, we noticed that we were having water back flow problems from the new plumbing. Water was cascading out of the washer standpipe onto the laundry room floor and finding its way into the basement of our home. They were willing to come back to look, but were very reluctant to dig into the problem. They were giving us the old "song and dance" about "we built it to code, so it must be your washer" story line. Of course, our washer performed fine BEFORE the remodel, so this did not sit well with us. To make a long story short, we called several of the top-rated plumbers on Angie's list and every one of them stated without reservation that our original contractor had NOT installed the new plumbing to code. We then called the Warren County Ohio building inspector who also verified that the plumbing was not to code. Armed with all of this information, we told Residential Services of Ohio to fix the problem. They were willing to come back and change the plumbing, but insisted that we describe what we wanted done (we are not plumbers) and that we take full responsibility if the “fix” did not work. After a whole lot of complaining and arguing, they are now thinking that they did us a big favor by coming back -- even though we had major water leaks into our basement and an unusable laundry room for several weeks. While the problem is fixed (the washer drain does work fine, now, and it is to code), we have amended our Angie’s List recommendation to reflect how this problem was handled. Frankly, we should not have had to do the legwork to establish that the job was “out of code.” When hiring a professional, one should expect a knowledge of applicable building codes. To us, this seems like the “price of entry” to do the job. We will not hire this contractor again.

Response from Residential Services
First of all I would like to express that the report contains exagerrated and untrue statements. Approximately TWO MONTHS after completion of the job, we were contacted by the male member of the household that there was a problem with the washing machine backing up. We responded immediately, told him we would resovle the issue and set up a time to come out immediately. Upon arriving on time for our scheduled appointment, we were ignored by the female member of the household and left waiting outside. Clearly she did not want to deal with us, so from that point on we dealt with the male member of the household. For her to state that we disrespected her is not true. We never dealt with her and never spoke with her, she ignored us. This issue involved the new type of high effiency front load washer that dumps almost 20 gallons of water in a matter of seconds. The standard 2" waste line could not handle the water. If you check this out online you will find several forums and problems with these washers. Anyway, a short section of the pipe was changed to 3" and the problem was resolved, with no cost to the homeowners. We have been in the residential construction business for 28 years and have built our reputation on quality work and customer service. Recently being awarded the Angies List Super Service Award speaks for itself. We have been an Angies List member since 2007 and have never received a grade below an "A". We strive for excellence in customer service and workmanship as every other report indicates.

Bob came out and talked to us about our plans to remodel/finish the basement. He was on time and very helpful in answering all of our questions. He even gave us some ideas for a particularly 'tricky' corner where some plumbing fixtures are in the way. His bid was right in our price range, it's just that someone else sold their services better. However, Residential Services was in our top 3 choices.

Bob and his helper did great job! Showed up on time and worked a full day. The detail work looked great! The pullouts we purchased were not a perfect fit but he was able to put in extra time make it work with our cabinets insisting he wanted to make sure we where happy with the result. Installing the cabinets took 1.5 days. I would definitely hire Bob again and I am happy to provide a reference.
Description of Work: Bob installed our cabinets, crown moulding, light rail and pullouts in our kitchen. The design included a hutch which required some detail work. We went with his recommended cabinet supplier -- Genesis Wholesale Kitchen and Bath -- and they look awesome.

The work was scheduled to begin after we suffered through the snow storms in late February, and in spite of mounds of snow that hampered getting closer to the house, the work started on time. The work was accomplished in a professional and efficient manner. Bob was extremely helpful throughout the process. When problems arose, he would offer suggestions on ways to fix or overcome. He arrived when he said he would and would call when he was delayed. He kept me abreast of the next steps involved throughout the remodeling, I am extremely satisfied with the work,
Description of Work: Updates to 2 full baths and 2 half baths including installing new vanity tops and floor tile in all bathrooms. In the 2 full baths, installed: new lighting, mirrors, new toilets, as well as remodeled one of the full bathrooms to add a tub and wall tile. Additionally, a walk in closet was added in the basement.

Bob did a great job, calling to tell me when he would be there and showing up on time. He worked around some problems I had with the tile store and other vendors. If there was any questions, he would call me immediately. I completely trusted him to do the job and it was a pleasure to work with him.
Description of Work: Completely remolded 2 bathrooms and partial remodel of one bathroom. I purchased all tile, fixtures, and cabinets. Bob gave me great recommendations and discounts for suppliers. For both the master and Guest Bathrooms, Bob removed everything, including all the floor tile, shower stall and tile, and bath tile, toilets, cabinets, faucets, and lights. He then installed all new tile on the floors and walls with the addition of installing some irregular hand made tiles. Even with the uneven walls, Bob made all the tiles fit beautifully and the irregular tiles looked great. He installed the cabinets, lights, fans, toilets, mirrors, and showers stall. Bob did a great job with wonderful attention to all details. For the 1/2 bath, he removed and replaced the light fixture, counter tops and faucets. He gave me great suggestions and worked with the design changes and unusual tiles wonderfully. He was a delight to work with and I will hire him for all further remodeling I do as his work is superior to any I have seen.

Having explained our projects to Bob Kontout, we were given the names and locations of various suppliers and retailers (tile, cabinets, granite and appliances), all of which turned out to be good choices. Bob then proceeded to gut the old kitchen completely (except for the wood floor) and then install the new materials in a timely manner. Bob proved to be a master of all trades. He was open to various suggestions we had during the projects. Very professional, agreeable, knowledgable and easy to contact via phone or e-mail. We are VERY satisfied with his work and will certainly employ him in future remodeling projects.
Description of Work: Gutted old kitchen completely; relocated many of the old kitchen cabinets to the laundry room, garage and basement workroom; ceramic-tiled the laundry room floor; installed a new electric outlet in the laundry room; installed new kitchen cabinets and drawers; ceramic-tiled kitchen walls (back-splash, etc.); and several minor plumbing jobs.

Bob quickly returned a proposal for the work after meeting with us. He was able to get our job on the calendar shortly after arrival of our cabinets. Bob made steady progress at getting our bathroom done, and provided his professional opinion on various items that we didn't consider (which was really helpful). It was also clear that he wanted to make sure the remodel turned out right, and as a result, he completed some additional items that weren't included as part of the original scope just to make sure we were happy. He was very easy to work with and we are very happy with the way the project turned out.

The work was completed as estimated on time and in budget. He was cooperative and flexible with some of our last minute changes and a delay in the delivery of some decorative tile. Overall, it was excellent work and right on budget. There was just a couple of very minor quality things that I noticed that were not exactly perfect.

He did a great job. Was very easy to work with. Very reasonable on pricing. He really pays attention to detail and makes sure everything is to your satisfaction. Was always on time and his communication was excellent. We have had tremendous comments from others about his detail and his work all together. I would highly recommend him for any work.
Description of Work: Finished our basement. Put in a half-bathroom and put in tile. Put in tile in bar area. Also, put in a sink/bar in our basement. Did all electrical work. Was all approved by our county and township.
The project was not without "bumps" but they were caused by the cabinet company and not the contractor. To start with, Bob was able to demolish the old kitchen in a matter of 3 days. He then installed the new wiring and quickly had the new gypsum boards installed. Bob worked with us so that the walls would be ready for painting by the weekend so that we could prime and paint the walls before he installed the new cabinets. The countertops were a bit of a problem since we chose 24 inch Granite tiles from another company and the front edge does not match the countertop depth. Bob found a way to make it work and they look great. The cabinets were not all correct upon delivery and repeated efforts to resolve further issues with the doors remain, but Bob has come back several times to continue to install the correct cabinets and doors.
Description of Work: We had the kitchen gutted to the studs and replaced everything - floor to ceiling. The above cost was for tearing out and removing the floors, walls and ceilings, replacing the drywall, trim, tile floor, installed additional wiring, and installing the new cabinets, and countertops. Bob Kontout did a great job and I would recommend him to anyone. He was on time, fair and very helpful in working with us while we redid the kitchen. He also made sure the mess from the remodeling was minimized and made sure to finish the job by our deadline (for out of town company coming in).

As I mentioned before, I could not move forward with the remodel (budget had to go to family crisis) however, I was very impressed with Bob's responsiveness and wanted to comment on his professionalism. It was refreshing.
Description of Work: Unfortunately, I could not move forward with my project but I just wanted to say that Bob was so efficient in returning calls and making an appointment to give an estimate. I wanted to leave him a positive record because I had contacted three contractors and he was the most prolific and efficient one to return calls, make an appointment, etc. Due to family circumstances, I was unable to move forward with the project but if we are in a position to do it again, I will be contacting Bob.
