Yocum Shutters & Blinds

The coupon was for Hunter Douglas Blinds and if you know blinds then you know that these are the cream of the crop. I thought that my $199.00 coupon would go further, but I was only able to purchase 2 blinds for my bedroom (regular sized windows). The blinds were much more money than I had expected to pay but since I had purchased the coupon I was locked in. I made some payments before I had them come to confirm the measurements. I wanted top down/bottom up cordless, but had to forgo the cordless part as it was a much added expense. I picked white, they are mounted inside the window and I can still use my window treatments with them. I have the privacy I was hoping for and the ability to open the upper part of the window for air when it gets warmer. They look great.

Thought vendor would come to house with samples but they wanted us to look on line and then after a deposit would come to our home .. very clumsy transaction. They did respond but Wilmington DE is at least 3 hours from us -- so not a good match.

Overall, it didn't go well at all. 1) the provider didn't give me any ballpark estimate over the phone despite my description of kind of blinds I wanted and approx. size of windows. 2)the person who came for measurements came late and couldn't give any ballpark estimate for the blinds that I chose from the samples he showed. He asked me to contact the shop for any estimates. 3) The lady at the shop called me back a few days after the measurements to give total charges that needed me to pay another $1000 for the blinds on top of the $1000 worth of blinds I had purchased with this deal. She started giving very evasive and impolite responses when I asked if I could buy additional Angie's List coupons to cover the additional $1000 needed for the job. She told me she would call back and hung up the phone. 4) When she finally called back a few days later and left me a message, she didn't mention anything about my inquiry about additional coupons purchase and instead was asking about my final go/no go decision to purchase the blinds. I'm not happy with this experience and hence would not want to proceed with this purchase. Thanks.

They missed three appointments and were cancelling every time. Finally they arrived but I haven’t heard from them since. They have just been unresponsive and not helpful. I am going with someone else. The people seem nice but they can’t seem to get the work done.

After purchase realized the discount was not as good as I expected. Found out I could purchase better via Costco. Yocum delivered the product I ordered as expected. |

The mark up on these blinds is incredible so the real price was still somewhat of sticker shock. Once over that, great service, exceptionally courteous and prompt. Would certainly recommend them to others.

I think there needs to be a better ad or agreement prior to the placement of the ad so that there won't be any discrepancy and won't be confusion concerning the deal. I think the merchant needs to be clear about what is expected of them prior to signing on. He was stressing about covering the costs for his business.

Purchased the offer for $199.00 for $500.00 worth of window blinds. When I spoke to the provider he wanted an addition $250.00 plus a $50.00 deposit in addition to the $500.00 deal to install 2 shades. If I wanted all 5 shades it would have cost me an addition $1,099.99 plus the $50.00 deposit. I found another provider for the same product that will install all 5 custom blinds for $950.00 plus $115.00 to measure and install. Half of what this rip off deal you were offering as a "big deal". This provider is not one I'd use or recommend to anyone.

Store manager was personable and accommodating. I am in a wheelchair. Although the store was crowded with 'stuff' that prevented me from being able to go into the aisles, she brought me any items I wished to see. Service was quick. The measurer/installer came to the house within a week or so. Not long after the measuring, he was back completing the job. He was experienced and very competent. He did a good job explaining how to operate and take care of the shades, which were different than any others I own.

I was blindsided by the price which ended up being 3-4 times higher than I expected but I didn't want to lose my deposit. Beware of the fine print- what you see as a special price is not what you get.

Very professional. Roberta was my phone contact and she was very helpful. The installer was competent and friendly and he cleaned up afterwards. The installation is all that was promised and it looks good. I am pleased with it. the shutters seemed somewhat expensive, but I did not have any prior knowledge of custom shutter pricing. |

I had new blinds installed on 4 windows. The blinds look great and work as expected, and the installation went well. | |The process leading up to the installation wasn't ideal. It was hard to schedule appointments and when they came they gave me my choice of 1 style in 4 shades of white. I had to go out and do my own research about what else was available and convince them to install what I found. | |The Angie's List deal was for Hunter Douglass blinds, but it took some convincing to get that brand. In retrospect, we did not save any time or money through the deal.

My experience with Yocum S&B was a positive one. It took longer than I expected from my initial contact to the installation due mostly to my indecisiveness in choosing the kind of blinds I wanted. Roberta, my customer contact saleslady was very friendly, helpful and most importantly patient while I was making my decisions. I really appreciated her advice and patience. She always kept me informed and returned my calls as quickly as possible. I felt that I got a very fair price for the quality of the product and service I received. The installation went well. The young man who installed the blinds was very personable. He worked quickly and efficiently and made sure to clean up completely. I was very pleased with the service I received from Yocum S&B . Also, I must say that I really love my new window blinds!! Thank You so much!

Installation was efficient, successful and problem free. The measurer was also the installer. He was professional and friendly. We are very happy with our blinds and the whole experience.

The blinds were very efficently installed following an accurate measurement. The installer was quick and neat. We have used Yocums two times in the last decade and been very pleased both times--I would recommend this local small business. They sell quality goods with good customer service.

I couldn't be happier with the service I received. It is one thing to get the product installed, but it is quite another if you have problems. None of the problems were major, but Frank and his crew were extremely responsive in making sure that the problems got addressed quickly and to my satisfaction. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

He was very honest with me and told me I did not need to replace my window treatments. I would definitely use him again, he was courteous, honest and I would highly recommend him.

I have left several messages. When I got in touch with someone and said she would call me back and she never did. I called her back and was not helpful and could not schedule and appointment. I called a supervisor and he was helpful trying to get something moving along and said he would have the women reach out to me the next day to schedule something. She reached out to me a few days later, and informed me I was scheduled for the next day. I couldn’t do that because I had to work. So, I scheduled something a month out and took the day off for today. I called today to confirm and they didn’t have me in the system at all. I find this very unprofessional.

The pricing is completely shady and comes with attitude. I went to the West Chester with my measurements and selected the shutters. I was quoted a price of $468 for one window. We also discussed a second scenario wherein I would purchase shutters for 4 windows and was quoted a price of $1482 which included the $500 credit. When I later called back to say that I only wished to move forward with the one window at $468 I was told she could not locate my paperwork and would have to call me back. She then called back and said she found it but said there were "too many numbers" and could not determine the price quoted and would have to do the numbers again. She then quoted me a price of around $408. When I asked why the discrepancy she then tried to tell me that the price was meant to be in ADDITION to the $500 credit. Thus the total cost for the one window was $876 - which was clearly insane. Not to mention it does not fit at all logically with the quoted price of $1482 for the 4 windows (which makes each window around $400 when adding the $1482 + $200 already paid for the coupon). Needless to say I did not move forward with this purchase as I have no confidence in their pricing system. I will go to a big box store where the prices are clearly stated and not reliant on one cranky womans poor note taking, math skills and ethics.

It went very well. I had a couple miscommunications with Roberta, but they got worked out. I spent more money than I expected to, but I hadn't done any prior comparison shopping so I can't say whether the price I paid was high, low, or normal. However, I'm very happy with the shades.

The owner and installer (Kimzy) we're very responsive to my inquiries. Kimzy and his son did a great job with the installation. They even remove the old hardware from the windows. They were very tidy. My rooms look like a different place. I highly recommend this company.

I bought the big deal without reading it closely enough. I thought I was getting a great deal on these shutters at the price of the coupon, "$199 for $500 of Hunter Douglas MSRP Custom Shades, Blinds, Shutters and More". When I talked with them I was told that I was getting $500 worth of shutters, not that I was getting the shutters. Then the price was set such that I owed another $360 when the job was done. This was explained to me early enough on that I could have changed my mind and gotten a refund, which they offered to do, but I have already priced these shutters and they all came out to about $500, so rather than stop with these guys and start all over again with someone else, I just went ahead and got them. They are good shutters and the guys were very punctual and professional, but I found the whole "Big Deal" thing a little sleezy. I paid retail for those shutters or shutters like them and it has left a bad taste in my mouth around the whole Big Deal program. Does anyone at Angie's List check to see if these are actually deals? I would use Yokum again... I would just read the offer more carefully next time.

Frank, from Yocum, called to set up an appointment for choosing the type/color/measurement of the blinds. Person arrived on time and was very knowledgeable. He measured and we selected the blinds we wanted. Within two weeks Frank called to arrange for installation. Person again was on time and did a good job with installation. We are pleased with the effect.
