It went very smoothly, and they did all the work without me having to ask them. Very polite and courteous. I would use them again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: They weeded and raked my front & back lawns, removing bags of leaves and cuttings as they went along. They spruced up my garden to look great, dug up old bushes and stumps, rearranged rock and brick borders so they looked neat, and even chopped up and disposed of a large branch branch that had fallen into the alley behind my house!

It turned out fine. They worked hard and did everything I wanted to do. They got to work and worked steady. I would have them back again.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal from them for 2 men for 2 hours of lawn or landscape work. I had them dig out some bushes and small plants, and trim some trees.

Ken'sLandscaping never came out to assess the job. Ken's calendar was wide open when I arranged for the service. He sent one worker who could use a chain saw but didn't have cultivator or weed killer to do landscaping . The second so-called worker was a pretty young girl who who was very unfamiliar with lawn work. I was told it was her 3rd day on the job. I had to tell her to put on gloves. She was nice but very "green" to yard work. They were at my house for 1 hour and I could see her work was slow and she wasn't sure what to do or how to do it. I had a vine and she was cutting it into asparagus sized pieces. I learned that it was this young girl's 3rd day on the job, I had paid for 1 worker for 4 hours or 2 workers for two hours. I told Ken that he had basically sent me one man. And I felt that one man should provide me the 4 hours. When I told him I knew the girl was not up to the job, Ken said "so how am I supposed to train people?" The man who came understood what was going on and was prepared to stay the 4 hours. Ken got all upset and said he'd come back the next week, but I needed the work done that day and had scheduled well in advance on his calendar. He suggested the next week and I said it wouldn't work as the next week was Easter. i had people coming to my home that next Saturday night for an early Easter dinner before a church celebration. Ken then said I was unreasonable and that he'd pull his people and refund my money. Although the one experienced man with the chainsaw said he was willing to stay and called Ken to say so, Ken told him to "get the vehicle off the property." I asked this worker if he had another job to go to and he said "no,I'm going home." I have yet to receive a refund.
Description of Work: Keep in mind that Ken's Landscaping was paid thru Angie's List's deal. AT that time, Angie's List showed Ken's Landscaping as having an A rating. When I called Ken, he told me to pick a time as his schedule was open. He told me to choose a date and a morning or afternoon. So I picked 1 pm in the afternoon. The week before the job, he called to see if I could postpone my job for a week. I told him no that I was concerned about things growing and wanted the date and time we had agreed upon. Then the night before, I discovered later that his wife (who he later told me was 73 years old) left messages that she needed to confirm the time with me. The job was agreed for 1 pm with Ken. On Sat morning when I returned her voicemail message and she asked me when I was supposed to have their crew. I told her it was set for the afternoon. She then said that the crew may come early. I told her I preferred that they come at 1 as that was my appt. time. At 1 pm a truck pulls up on my street, with one man with a chain saw, and a young girl who didn't seem to know what to do. I discovered it was her 3rd day on the job. Having paid for 4 hours of work with what I thought would be experienced workers, I got one man and an experienced, but nice young lady. I had paid for 4 hours or as Ken said I could get two workers for 2 hours. When I realized that this young girl was not an experienced worker and needed to be coached as to what to do, I knew that I would be short-changed as she would do much less than I could in two hours time. At that point, I called Ken and confronted him with the fact that he sent me a substandard crew. He said his man was the best, and I said I'd give him that he was good that but I felt he had given me a young girl who was not up to the job and I would rather that I have the man perform the 4 hours all toll. I knew the one man could probably get the job done if he worked the 4 hours. Ken was upset that I had questioned him that now that he may have had bigger jobs, my job was not his priority. I mentioned the calls from his wife about the time and the week before ask that I postpone a week. He then got angry and said his wife was 73 years old and was calling because a crew had finished early to defend his position. I never said anything about his wife. He just threw that in as though I was insulting her...??? I felt I was short changed because Ken was counting the young trainee as a regular worker and I think He got angry because I was calling him on it. I told him he should be trying to work with me after all he didn't want a bad rating on Angie's List. He said how about I come back next week. I told him I just need the one many to work the entire four hours. (In fact the worker man he sent said he'd have no problem with that.) Ken didn't want to do that. He then said he'd come back next week, and I said that no next week was Easter. (I was also having a dinner with guests the evening before Easter and would be busy all Saturday.) He said he was just going to call his people off the job. I told him I preferred that they stay, but have the one man counted for the hours. He said I was being unreasonable, and yet I felt that I did have the short end of the stick and was upset that Ken had placed me in this position. As I was still talking to him, Ken hung up the phone. I then appealed to his one man to call Ken because that one man said he could do the job. But after he hung up the phone, the worker said that Ken told him to get his vehicle off my property. It was actually parked out front. The man who worked for Ken said he was sorry and that was the end of that. I tried to work things out with Ken but he was the one who became unreasonable.

I firmly disagree with a full refund…We were there for 78% of the time purchased. A refund of the difference ($37) can be argued but should not be given when a customer is lying and using Angies ratings to get what they don’t deserve. Here are her comments in blue and my responses in black He lied about the time: I did not lie and I have GPS tracking info (attached) which confirms that we were there one hour and 34 minutes or for 78% of the purchased time. This alone questions the credibility of the rest of her statements. He lied about the consultant statement: In her own write up of the initial complain she says I did not come out to discuss the job. That is true. However, she was told this was a cleanup and were sending two people for two hours. That is what the Big deal was. We were not contracted to go out and give an estimate or appraisal. The night before his wife left messages that she needed to confirm the time: This is standard operating procedure. We ALWAYS try and confirm the day before because we believe this is what is normally expected from a customer and gives them reassurance. In addition, from our side, it makes sure the customer will be home because we would not do the job unless the customer is present and that would leave our employees doing no work that day. She then said that the crew may come early: On yard jobs, we can never tell how long they will take. When the customer is second or third on the list, our time is dependent on what the first customers want done. It is not unusual for the early customers to hold our employees. We try and allow time for that. In this instance, we confirmed with the first customer that they would NOT hold our employees past 11 AM . So we were simply trying to advise Mrs. Burgess that we could get there earlier. She made such a “stink” about 1PM firm that we actually sent our employees to another house for 36 minutes (see GPS) to kill time. Please note, by her own writing, that she did NOT call us back the day before. In fact she returned our call the morning of the job. Obviously, we were already out by then and had no idea at that point whether she was even going to be home. When I realized that this young girl was inexperienced: This is the same crew that did our other Angies work. Yes, we had one person (a girl) who was on the job for three days. This is a property clean up! Her job is to follow the instructions of the foreman and her tasks are manual. Mrs. Burgess apparently expected an arborist or horticulturalist. Please see ALL our other reviews where we have done work! The only “F”s are when we refused the jobs because of unreasonable demands. I knew that one man could probably get the job done in 4 hours: That one man was already there for nearly two hours, with a helper. Even if that helper wasn’t as good as the foreman, she was still doing things and saving time. And her specific request was that he stay until the job was completed, at no extra charge, regardless of the time. REGARDLESS!!! I mentioned the calls from his wife; I never said anything about his wife: Yes she did! What she specifically said was “and that pushy office manager of yours” who insisted that I call to confirm the time. She didn’t know that was my wife and she is correct that I blew up at this. I told her that the “pushy office manager” was my wife who has been doing this for our son for 30 years. I told her we always call the day before to confirm and I resented her personal attacks on my wife for trying to confirm the appointment and also my employees. She said my experienced worker wasn’t that experienced because he commented that he had never seen vines so thick. He indeed said that. What she failed to add was the rest of the sentence: “growing out of cement”. He had bigger jobs and my job wasn’t his priority: This falls in line with the “lied about the time”. I NEVER said that. In fact, we do many Angies jobs. We do like it when they are extended and I would have gladly extended the time at her place, except for her attacks on all of our people. Most of our jobs are small. He then got angry and said…a crew had finished early: partially correct. My wife called the day before and then the morning of the job. Again, this was to confirm she would be home because she did not confirm the appointment the day before or return several phone calls. She (my wife) did say they could come early, but Mrs. Burges never confirmed it in time for us to react to it. We would not have gone at all had she not at least confirmed that she expected us. I told him he should try working it out with me to avoid a bad rating: Her exact words were: If I didn’t keep my employees there until the job was completed to her satisfaction, she would give me an “F”. I told her to go ahead. I told him I prefer they could stay: I told her if she didn’t like our employees I would send another crew later (I told her this when she had told me we were only there for ½ hour). We never got into a detailed conversation about when we would come back. She said I prefer they stay under her conditions of “however long it takes”. At that point of the conversation, I had not checked our GPS records. I assumed her statement was honest that early point of the conversation. It was not honest. He hung up of me: I hung up on her when she said do everything, regardless of time, or get an F which was immediately after she blasted the pushy office manager.

I made an assumption that Ken's Lawn and Property Service Inc. would be able to chip up tree branches that had fallen. They do not have a chipper. Owner got back promptly with that information. Ken's Lawn and Property Service acted properly and promptly. I have no issues with them.

I purchased one of Angie's specials for 4 man hours landscaping service. Ken's office contacted me the same day to schedule service and followed up the day before. The guys showed up promptly, discussed what needed to be done and did a great job.

They were timely and responsive. The 2 gentlemen sent to do the work were very professional and knowledgeable. They offered care /maintenance tips and ideas. I would not hesitate to use them again. We were very pleased overall but a weekend appointment would have been much more convenient. I had to take a 1/2 off of work to be here when they came.

edIn general they did a good job. Arrived on tiime and did all the basics. They didn't have time to get everything done perfectly, but did what they could given time constraints. Very professional in the way they approached the job.

THESE GUYS WERE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANDY AND GEORGE, I want you back for more work!!! These guys did stuff I didn't even ask them to do. My fence was broken-they fixed it, hung my wrought iron decor on my house, took out the dead brush in the front of the house---I never even asked them to do it. What I hired them for was the steep hill in my backyard that was a mess. They tore out all the dead overgrown weeds, etc and grated it down making a level walkway at the top of the hill so people can walk up there. Andy and George were extremely helpful, professional and hardworking. Thanks guys, you're the BEST!!!!
Description of Work: Took out a extremely steep hill of dead weeds, raked it and put broken fence together that I didn't even ask them to do, They then suggested that they cut down some of my dead stuff on the front lawn - again, didn't ask them to do.

It was fine. I really didn't have a hands on thing. They set the appointment up and they came out and did what they needed to do. I was pleased with what they did. It was probably a pretty good deal.

The company responded quickly when I called them. They scheduled the work right away, even doing it on a weekend. The workers were very hard-working, polite, and professional. I would definitely hire them again.

This is totally incorrect. This person said that the Angies Ad was misleading. It says fours hours of yard work. I told him that was two people for two hours, a total of four hours. He said that was misleading because he expected two people for 4 hours. I told him I was uncomfortable doing work for him because he already thought we were deceiving him and therefore to ask Angies for his money back. I wrote Angies List and told them immediately of the "deception" this customer stated and that they would receive a request for a refund. They reviewed their ad and did not feel it was deceptive.

This is misleading. This customer told me she had tons of thistle, some very large. I explained to her that this was best removed by spraying the thistle first, removing the dead thistle, and then putting down a chemical barrier to prevent future growth. I told her we are licensed in Pennsylvania, we are not licensed for herbicides (we are only licensed in Delaware) and suggested she call someone else because all we could legally do is remove it by hand. I explained that her thistle would likely only regrow if we just removed it manually and I would not be responsible for that. I suggested she get a refund from Angies list and call a chemical applicator who was licensed in Pennsylvania. We only had the one conversation. Very nice lady, but we were the wrong contractor for this project.

All work was well done . The only issue, which was quickly and unhesitatingly resolved, was how much of the haul-away truck was filled ( sep chge for haul away, by portion of truck filled). The truck left before I had a chance to to see it and talk to the workers, but on the phone later, after I received the bill, my view was promptly accepted. I am fully satisfied.

They arrived on time, were extremely professional and friendly and were very considerate of my neighbors. They bagged the debris and hauled it off for an additional $20. Two gentlemen worked 2 hours straight without any breaks. Would definitely recommend and also use again.
Description of Work: Trimmed bushes, weeded, removed dead plants in several places in my back yard and in my front patio garden. They also removed some wild plants in and around my garden and also weeded my vegetable garden

I purchased the big deal in mid October for fall yard clean-up. However, after purchasing the Big Deal, I had an out of town family emergency and was unavailable to schedule service. Upon my return to the area, the service was scheduled, but could not be completed due to one of the recent snow storms. Ken was very understanding and accommodating to the situation, which was much appreciated.

He was prompt, neat, and did very good. He was knowledgeable and reasonable he let me know I should fertilize it 4 times a year and that he could offer the same deal. He was very neat. I was very pleased with his service. He did the outside of my fence that other lawn care companies couldn’t do, which made a big difference.
