Description of Work: We had the foyer hallway, stair wall, banister, and upstairs hall and trim all painted in a single day (using an 'army' of guys). Only one thing needs to be fixed: the banister. It appears that they tried to put a 2nd coat of urethane on it before the first coat was completely dry, and it is "blistered" from top to bottom. However, I'm sure they'll come back and fix it.

Description of Work: They painted the entire interior of my home (about 2400 sqare feet); no trim and one tray ceiling. I was having a lot of trouble getting a local painter (Delaware shore) to get back to me. Mike is an hour away, but I gave it a try. His office assistant, Donna, was very professional and responsive. They got a quote to me in a very timely manner, and it turned out to be much better than the more local painters. (beat them by about $500) Based on the great reviews I read, we booked them. Mike met me at the home while his crew began taping everything off, and we reviewed colors. I was indecisive, and he convinced me to try something a little different than what I originally had in mind. I was pretty nervous about this, but it turned out beautifully! The crew completed the job in one long day. I would definitely use them again, and have already recommended them.

Description of Work: We hired J Michaels to paint the interior of our home before we moved in last September. There was a misunderstanding as to whether or not I wanted him to paint the trim. I thought I was clear that I wanted the trim painted. He told me that the estimate excluded trim because most of it looked okay and didn't need to be done. However, several baseboards and window sills definitely needed to be painted. The day before the job when he came over to discuss colors, I told him I expected these areas to be done so why don't we just do everything? Michael said not to worry, the areas that needed to be painted would most certainly be painted. Of course, most of the trim in need of new paint was not done. The job that was done on the walls passes his rule of inspecting from across the room. Most of it looks fine. In fairness, Michael did send someone to do the window sills after I complained. Most of the trim in the house is not done and will have to wait for the next painting we do in a few years. Every so often I will find other areas of trim that I wish would have just been painted. What bothers me the most is that when I compared his quote to the others I received I thought I was comparing apples to apples. Unfortunately, his quote excluded trim so the $1k I thought I was saving was not a true savings. This may have been an honest miscommunication. However, he did insult me by comparing the trim to french fries at a burger joint. I apparently simply didn't order french fries. He went so far as to say that he gave us freebies in the trim that they did do and if I look at the contract the obligations according to the contract were met. If I pay you to paint a room where there is a big, dark circular mark on the window sill from a pot or something similar and you don't paint that window sill, that's all I see when I'm standing in the doorway. Again, that issue was fixed. We did notice within a month or two multiple areas in different rooms where the paint is cracking. I have considered calling him back to touch these up but I'm not sure he will want to do anything about it without charging me more. The final thing that was very disappointing is the extra $300 we were charged on the day of the job. Something about needing extra paint for the family room. Whatever, I'm not paying by the cans of paint used. The contract said nothing about the possibility of an upcharge on the day of the job. I suspect this was a way to ensure a tip for the crew. This is the only reason I didn't demand the money back after I found out my wife paid Chip the money. All in all, the experience was okay. The job is superb when factoring in how fast they completed it. In this particular circumstance we had some time so we didn't necessarily need it to be done in one day.

 + -1 moreEverything went exactly as planned. The crew and supervisor Rick were excellent and very thorough in both prepping and painting. They carried out the terms of the contract to the letter and the owner Mike Purvis came by on both days to insure that we were satisfied customers. We also had J Michaels Painting clean and paint our deck which is large a couple summers ago and he and his team did an excellent job. We would not hesitate to recommend J Michaels Painting via Angie's List and will also recommend him to any family and friends that are looking for quality work done at a fair price.

His quote was much more reasonable than other offers and we liked the fact that he could/would help us with color selection. On the morning of the painting, Mike and his crew arrived right on time and began to work immediately. They did a fantastic job! We will definitely use Mike and his crew for future jobs. A wonderful experience.

 + -1 moreBased on a referral from a friend, I called J. Michaels Painting and the owner, Michael, came to my home for the estimate. He appeared professional and knowledgeable so I hired them to do the job. He estimated 1-2 days for the work to be completed. They accomplished a lot of work on the first day and I was pleased with their work. When I returned home after the second day, there was paint on my fixtures, carpet, a torn sliding door screen, and a broken bottle in my basement...among other things. I was very distressed at the condition of my home and called Michael, the owner, immediately. I did not receive a call back from him despite leaving several messages regarding what had happened that day in my home. The next morning I again called Michael to inform him I had now called the police. My call was now returned. He offered an explanation as to why my home was left in this condition and offered to send out a crew to repair the damage. Obviously, I was not comfornable having them back in my home. I finally agreed to allow his manager to come out and fix what he could. The most upsetting thing about this whole incident, aside from having my home damaged, was the fact that the owner would not return my calls once there was a problem. As the owner, Michael should have been at my house that afternoon to address the problem. A customer should not have to call the police in order to get a phone call returned.

 + 1 moreMike's crew, led by foreman Chip, did excellent work. They arrived on time, set up quickly and got to work. All the furniture and floors were covered with plastic. They moved the furniture which I had cleared of breakables. They were polite, friendly, and respectful of my property. They tolerated my unending questions very well. I believe that I am very very picky and I am quite pleased with the work performed. I had three other quotes, and Mike had the best price and the best recommendations. I highly recommend J. Michaels Painting. I will definitely be using them again.
Description of Work: This job consisted of painting the interior walls of the two-story foyer, upstairs hallway and back staircase, living room and dining room. The walls. ceiling and trim all had two coats and some drywall was done. Trim painting included stair risers, spindles, doors, door frames and window frames.They also installed one interior door.

 + 0 moreThe entire experience, from original estimate through completion was superb. We had our entire (newly purchased) home repainted, other than ceilings. Mike provided excellent input as to the color scheme. In one large area, we were very skeptical about the color selection, but on completion it worked perfectly with the rest of the house. It was originally scheduled for a two day job but did extend into a third day due to a conflict with another job. The painting crew (~about 6 strong) were extremely careful about protecting all non-painted areas (e.g. carpeting) and the quality of the paint work was outstanding... perfection really. The overall cost was very competitive and they offered to come back at no charge in the event that the movers scratched or scuffed any wall during the post-painting move into our new house. Mike was an absolute professional and his eye for color matching was spot on.
Description of Work: We asked that all walls and trim be painted for the entire 3 story house. We requested a variety of colors be used throughout the house. A chair rail for the dining room area was also added which allowed for different shades of tan to be applied.

Although I was dubious of faux finish and walls painted in different colors, I was amazed at the result, making the house more cheery and bright. Kudos to the owner who made the color selections and other suggestions. I could not have been more pleased!
Description of Work: Called for estimate and got a quick response. Came at appointed time and provided assurances that workers were honest and dependable. I had difficulty with selecting colors and they provided some options. I eventually let them select the final colors based on their best experience. They even suggested a popcorn ceiling to highlight the new colors. The interior of the entire house was painted along with some wood structures being stained. They promised to complete the entire process in one day, as well as moving all the furniture, protecting surfaces and restoring everything to its original position.

 + -1 moreCalled to set up appt for estimate for interior painting and repair work. DId not show, did not call. Heard from his office after the scheduled appt time, informing me that Mike had a family emergency and asked to re-schedule. Did re-schedule the estimate appt. for a few days later. Half and hour before the scheduled appt time, Mike called and spoke to my 13 yr old son who informed him that I wasn't home. Message I received from my son when I arrived home (at the scheduled appt time) was that Mike called and said he would be at my house 15-30 mins late. By 30-45 minutes past the scheduled appt time, I had not heard from Mike and called the office and left a message stating that it was now 30-45 minute past the scheduled appt time and I hadn't seen or heard from Mike and that I thought this was unacceptable for a contractor. I further stated that if I didn't hear from someone by 7 pm, then he shouldn't bother to call or come by the house, considering that I now had a pattern of no show, no communication. After that, found Mike's cell phone number on my caller id and called him again at 7pm. Asked him where he was, he stated he was in his driveway. When asked to explain what happened, he said he had spoken to someone at my house (didn't realize it was a child) and asked to either move the appt up by 15 mins. or back by 15 mins. Then says he did not receive an answer from that person and that the person then hung up on him. He then decided to go to another estimate appt instead. Re-scheduled my estimate for the next day. The next day, at the scheduled appt time, Mike called to decline to give the estimate stating that he didn't appreciate the message that I left on his answering machine because I hadn't heard his side of the story before leaving my message expressing my dissatisfaction with him. I feel as though he should never have made a business decision based on a conversation with a child and should have called back to speak with me directly so there would be no misunderstanding or miscommunication regarding the appt. He should have called back that evening, not wait for me to call him. He also should not have waited until the scheduled appt time to cancel the appt. My time is just as valuable to me as his or the next person's. All in all, would not recommend him based on this experience.
