This is a review of what we went through when we hired J. Michaels Painting (owner Mike Purvis) to paint our house and everything was fine in the beginning. He came the day we scheduled for the initial estimate. He was late. He did call to say he was running late. So, then we setup the appointment for “color consult” which he says is included in the price. He will help us decide a color(s). Well, he seemed to be frustrated with us trying to figure out which color(s) to choose. He made his recommendation, etc. He seemed to rush us. Which we did not like. Anyway, he left us a swatch book for us to look at. It then turned out that we had to decide a color and that we had to by a certain time. I sent him a text saying Mike we are still racking our heads with colors. What’s the latest we can send them to you. He replied back 4:00..why don’t you just trust me? Your putting way too much thought into this. I replied…that’s us. So, after that I called him and spoke with him on the phone and he again repeated trust me. He wanted to go with one color that he recommended on one wall and another on the other walls. He again said trust me. He said it’s only paint. He then said I’ll tell you what I’m going to do. If you let me paint the one wall the color that I’m recommending and I will give you two weeks to decide. If you and your wife don’t like it I will repaint it whatever color we want and that he will eat the cost. So, me and my wife discussed and said well let him do it. If we don’t like it he will repaint it. Well, the day came to paint the house. They did a good job moving furniture and covering things. The painting was ok. Not as good as I thought it was going to be. Well, we notice quite a few spots that needed to be touched up. They missed a lot of spots that needed to be spackled, caulked, etc. As a few days went by we noticed more. So, anyway we were trying to get used to the one color and as we were stated give it two weeks and see, so we did and after that we decided we did not like it. So, I contacted his office and spoke with Donna and told her that we did not like the color and mentioned to her what Mike Purvis (owner) said. Also, to report that we need touchups to the work performed. She said ok. Then I get a call back from Donna saying that it will cost us $150.00 to be repainted and that Mike said that he was talking about the faux finish wall, which we clearly stated, no matter what we don’t want that touched. So, we just said forget about it. That to me was a feeling of bait and switch. let it be a lesson never to trust or take someone on their word – GET IT IN WRITING!!!!! So, now we have an appointment for them to come and fix all of the imperfections that they left. I was told by Donna in a VM that they would be out on that day anywhere from mid-morning to mid-afternoon and that someone would call me an hour before they would come. So, after waiting around all day it was 3pm so I called the office to see what was going on. No answer. I left a message. I figured they weren’t showing up. I then get a call at 4:34 pm saying that we are on our way. I said well it’s too late. I didn’t think you were showing up and I have to work tonight. We will have to reschedule. This was the son of the owner that called. Well, to me 4:34- 5:30 is not mid-afternoon. Well, then I get a call from the owner Mike Purvis he just starts telling me all kinds of stuff before I can get three words out of my mouth. This guy is a class A scum bag. So, I said I didn’t expect it to be this late. He then said ok I will call you Friday to setup another day. I said ok. Well, then that night at 8:10 pm I get a text from him saying “Changed my mind after seeing how ur family really is self-centered and userous. Stick ur touchups in ur ***…yes, ur entire family. We live better because we r better people.” I responded with “If ur what u call better people. Good thing I still have ur secretary’s VM.” He responded back ”I pay her. She will laugh at ur whiney ***…Try it…c what u get” AS AN ASIDE: We came to hiring J. Michael Painting after getting a few quotes, while he was not the least expensive, they would be finished in one day which was the selling point. We had also heard of others that used them and were satisfied. We also felt a sense of trust as his son and our niece were dating (the families had never met though so we did not know the owner Mike Purvis at all). Come to find out the next day after the nasty text, that the kids had a falling out that ultimately led to a break-up. At the time we had no knowledge that anything was going on. It was strictly business, obviously J. Michael took it to a totally uncalled for and horribly insulting next step. I wouldn’t recommend this business to anyone who is looking to spend top dollar for painting or for professional and courteous treatment as a customer patronizing a business. I mean really c’mon who talks to people like that – a business who obviously cannot separate business from personal issues – that had nothing to do with anyone other than 2 people who were not involved with the business agreement, a business who does not care! If you decide to hire him – just remember to not have any opinion or too many questions or hesitations or go against what he is saying or interrupt him – you will probably receive the same verbal abuse as we did!

It was with me supplying the paint. It's a lot of money. I haven't gotten quotes from anybody else, but I felt that it was kind of high. If I had gotten other quotes, I might find that that's what everybody charges. I have nothing to compare it to. As far as them coming out and doing the quote, it was fine. The guy was very pleasant and he explained things. I have no problem there. I know they are a fairly large company in Delaware. I would use them if I couldn't find anybody else at a more reasonable price.

The guys arrived at 7:30 - taped everything, moved the furniture into the center of the room, covered all the floors, applied 2 coats, cleaned up and were done by 2. It was AWESOME! They were very polite and did a wonderful job. I would definitely hire them again.

Great Service and Quality of work. On time, in budget, and excellent professionalism. Saved me hundreds of dollars by recommending a cheaper and better alternative to what I requested for gutter painting. Highly recommend. Will use again !! This is the second time I have used J. Michael Painting. Two and a half years ago I used them for front door and shutter painting. That job was a RUSH job and was performed equally well.

We did not use them. I liked everything except the price. We ended up getting the work done by a different company for about $800. My interaction with them was fine, professional and prompt, etc. The estimate detail was enough for me to make a decision. Price is so important.

I had a great experience with J Michaels Painting. They came out to give me an estimate for painting ALL of the exterior of my house (approx a $12K job). When my house sold sooner than expected, they graciously agreed to scale back the project to a much smaller job. Still, they gave me great service, a fair price, and got the job done quickly. I would definitely hire them again!

Excellent quality, utmost professionalism - they did what they said they would do and exceeded expectations. Quality of the workers was very high. I'd recommend them to anyone.

The worker stomped out of my house less than five minutes after his arrival. I sensed something was off when I pointed to the 2 walls in the bathroom I wanted papered and he grunted, "the 2 most difficult walls", but then we got into an argument about whether I had said I wanted the ceiling painted (I hadn't). He said, "That's it. I don't do work for rude people." Maybe he just didn't want to do the job, but clearly not someone I would want working for me.

Chip and his crew did a phemomenal job. They arrived on time and completed the work in one day as quoted. They were all very professional and cleaned up and moved all furniture back when done. We definately will be calling them again for additional painting in our home.

Mike was very helpful in picking out colors for family room, kitchen and bedrooms. The painters came and did the job and when they were done the only way you knew they were here is by how great the different colors on the wall looked.

I took the day off to keep an eye on the place and do some work of my own. Chip and his crew of 5 guys are efficient ... they arrived on time and set right to work and everyone seemed to know their role. They work to music and put in a full day. I heard only two cuss words all day, which pleased me. They were respectful and accommodating as you would hope/expect. I experienced some minor communication issues regarding a textured wall in the powder room, but since we ironed it out first thing the second day Chip went to lengths to make sure I was satisfied at the end of the job. Chip even gave me a helpful tip about the work I was completing in another part of the house. They dont' do anything that isn't in the original quote (I specifically had to ask them to do the closets, which I thought was a little annoying) so just be sure to ask for everything you want done up front. Overall EXCELLENT job. Rehire in a minute. Wish I could catch their laborers for a side job. (Call me!)

Chip, from J. Michaels Painting, met with me at my house a few weeks before the work to provide an estimate. While the price from J. Michaels was about 10% higher than another estimate I received, I decided to go with J. Michaels in part because they were very quick to respond to me on scheduling an appointment and answering any questions I had. Prior to the start of painting, my wife and I met with Mike for a color consultation. Mike helped us to select the colors for each room, although we had a good idea of what we wanted before we started the consultation. The painting work was extensive and took most of a week to get done even with a very large crew. The work was done quickly and we were very satisfied with the quality of the painting job. However, there were a few communication problems along the way. Since Mike was away for part of the job, Chip was supervising the work. There was some confusion and miscommunication about painting window grids so we got partially painted grids that we didn't want painted. Since we decided not to use the grids and we weren't charged for them, this was not a big issue for us. There was also some confusion on the color of one of the bathrooms. We had asked for one shade of brown and got another instead. In the end, it wasn't clear why the wrong shade was recorded by J. Michaels and we just paid to repaint the walls of that room. If we were doing this type of work again, we would have required in writing the colors that the J. Michaels planned for each room so we could confirm. Despite these issues, I came away from the work with a positive impression of J. Michaels from this job.

The company was very easy to work with and finished the job quickly and well. The owner did our color consult and helped us pick colors that work well for our style. He sent a good-sized team who got all the work done for our place in one day. We are very happy with the results. We will definitely hire them again in the future.

His crew showed up on time, They moved all furniture carefully and replaced it. There was no damage or spills. The job looks great and was completed in one, very long day. He used quality paint.

From the very beginning, Mike and Donna were very responsive, and they got back to me immediately to schedule a free estimate. When the estimate did not go through to my email due to an email glitch, they made sure to follow up with me to make sure I received the estimate and scheduled a date for the project. They confirmed the date and then followed up to make sure we had instructions about what to expect and how to prepare for their arrival. They arrived promptly at the appointed time, despite having to drive 40 miles to get here. The project was a big endeavor, but Mike made sure he had enough people here to tape, drape, prime, remove wallpaper, repair drywall and paint to get the project done in one day! Mike was extremely organized and knowledgeable, sending people to each room to prep, and the overall prep was completed within 30 minutes of their arrival. Mike did the color consultation immediately that morning (he would have come out prior to the day if requested) and had the paint called in to the local Sherwin Williams. All of the guys were very professional and polite. They took great care to make sure all of our things were protected and made sure that our little ones were out of the house while they were oil priming and spraying paint. Once they finished the job, they put all the furniture back and made sure everything was completely cleaned up. The work was essentially flawless and they left us the extra paint and instructions for how to care for our new surfaces. We will definitely use them again!

They did a Great job from the first contact with Donna in the office, to David with the estimate and than the crew who came and painted. We are Very happy with evething.

You can't beat J Michael for value. His work is very good and his pricing is excellent. He is very responsive to his customers and his men are prompt, courteous and efficient. I highly recommend him.

Fantastic. They estimate was free and was easy to set up. Very professional estimate packet with detailed pricing, business license and insurance information. Very easy to schedule work. They said they would start at 8 am and they arrived at 7:55 am on the dot. Came in with a professional crew who covered everything in plastic. After set up they worked all day and finished the job at 3pm. They cleaned everything up and did a walk though with me. I found three minor issues which they fixed right away before they left. I will only use this company for my painting needs from now on.

Delays due to unrelated delays by another contractor resulted in the weather getting to cold for painting. Re-scheduled for spring.

They were awesome throughout the entire process. Very responsive to communications via Angie's List emails. They were able to provide an estimate by using the pictures I sent them. They were very understanding of my needs. They went the extra mile to work around the weather, and performed the painting on a Sunday during prime time football games. That says a lot of their character. They exceeded my expectation. I can highly recommend them. Thanks so much !!

We recently moved into a new home that had copious amounts of wall paper, and dark paint colors that were going to need tons of primer and wall prep. What I like about this business is the prices are more then fair, mike the owner himself performs all estimates and follows up and check in at the start and finish of all projects. His staff are neat, clean and respectful- all floors are covered and furniture is always draped. After the job was complete you would never be able to tell their was any wall paper. The staff does things the correct way without short cuts. I had a couple of estimates and his prices were best by far. Lastly, I really liked working with Donna his office manager who performs all his scheduling- she is always in the office and if she does not answer the phone she gets back to you in one business day. This is very rare and helps with our busy schedule. Thank you to J. Michaels and his staff we feel like we are living in a brand new home!

Spray Painted the Aluminum Siding of the house and garage. Hand painted all exterior trim. Excellent job, fast , clean, and neat. The crew was very careful, courteous and professional in all aspects.

Michael and his team are Unbelievable!! We had the pleasure of meeting Mike face to face as he ran down all options for the painting they have, gave us a full estimate with all the material and additional work included with absolutely NO Hidden Fees.... He also advised that he could assist with anything else we needed as far as the color choices and give his professional opinion. The painters we have worked with are Louis and Glen, they are GREAT workers have nothing but respect and kindness, it makes it easy to welcome them into your home. They are on time, very clean with set up and prep to make sure nothing gets ruined. They take they time and remove all things off wall and that need to me moved so paint doesn't get on it. They are Fast and precious with their painting, they know what they are doing and it shows with the professional job in the end. Everyone who works for this company is so nice and they all have the experience needed to give you one H*** of a paint job. We have had a Garage done and Dining room, we are now as of today getting the Full basement completed, and we couldn't be Happier!!!! We are Happily going to use them in the future (they get all jobs estimated and scheduled within 2-3 weeks)to complete the whole inside of our house. Please contact them ASAP and don't miss out!!!! Mike called to set up an appointment with me right away, came gave me a price right than. I was not sure on one of my color choice so Mike came back out to help me with this, mind you he is about 1 hour away! Mike and his crew arrived when they said they would. Mike also called before hand to tell me exactly when he would arrive again! They arrived and went right to work. They set up their work station in the garage, covered all areas with plastic and started working as a team. My family and I were very happy with the results. Chip his foreman was wonderful and answered any questions I had.
